  • Java Charset problem on linux

    Hi, problem: I have a string containing special characters which i convert to bytes and vice versa..the conversion works properly on windows but on linux the special character is not converted properly.the default charset on linux is UTF-8 as seen with Charset.defaultCharset.getdisplayName() however if i run on linux with option -Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1 it works properly.. how to make it work using the UTF-8 default charset and not setting the -D option in unix environment. edit: i use jdk1.6.13 edit:code snippet works with cs = "ISO-8859-1"; or cs="UTF-8"; on win but not in linux String x = "½"; System.out.println(x); byte[] ba = x.getBytes(Charset.forName(cs)); for (byte b : ba) { System.out.println(b); } String y = new String(ba, Charset.forName(cs)); System.out.println(y); ~regards daed

  • posting php variable that contains apostrophe

    I am having trouble posting a php variable to another page. The variable is retrieved from a dropdown selected by the user and if it contains an apostrophe, I only get the part prior to the apostrophe posted. I.E. If I want to post "Cooper's Hawk" I am only receiving "Cooper". How do I escape this properly so that I can post the entire string? This is what I have: echo '<form method="POST" action="advanced_search2.php">'; $dropdown_english_name = "<select class = 'dropdown' name='english_name'> <option>ALL</option>"; $posted_value = ($_POST['english_name']); echo;$posted_value;die; So, to clarify from the above code, the posted string is "cooper's hawk" but the echoed output is "Cooper".   • Setting up Django on an internal server (os.environ() not working as expected?)

    I'm trying to setup Django on an internal company server. (No external connection to the Internet.) Looking over the server setup documentation it appears that the "Running Django on a shared-hosting provider with Apache" method seems to be the most-likely to work in this situation. Here's the server information: Can't install mod_python no root access Server is SunOs 5.6 Python 2.5 Apache/2.0.46 I've installed Django (and flup) using the --prefix option (reading again I probably should've used --home, but at the moment it doesn't seem to matter) I've added the .htaccess file and mysite.fcgi file to my root web directory as mentioned here. When I run the mysite.fcgi script from the server I get my expected output (the correct site HTML output). But, it won't when trying to access it from a browser. It seems that it may be a problem with the PYTHONPATH setting since I'm using the prefix option. I've noticed that if I run mysite.fcgi from the command-line without setting the PYTHONPATH enviornment variable it throws the following error: prompt$ python2.5 mysite.fcgi ERROR: No module named flup Unable to load the flup package. In order to run django as a FastCGI application, you will need to get flup from http://www.saddi.com/software/flup/ If you've already installed flup, then make sure you have it in your PYTHONPATH. I've added sys.path.append(prefixpath) and os.environ['PYTHONPATH'] = prefixpath to mysite.fcgi, but if I set the enviornment variable to be empty on the command-line then run mysite.fcgi, I still get the above error. Here are some command-line results: >>> os.environ['PYTHONPATH'] = 'Null' >>> >>> os.system('echo $PYTHONPATH') Null >>> os.environ['PYTHONPATH'] = '/prefix/path' >>> >>> os.system('echo $PYTHONPATH') /prefix/path >>> exit() prompt$ echo $PYTHONPATH Null It looks like Python is setting the variable OK, but the variable is only applicable inside of the script. Flup appears to be distributed as an .egg file, and my guess is that the egg implementation doesn't take into account variables added by os.environ['key'] = value (?) at least when installing via the --prefix option. I'm not that familiar with .pth files, but it seems that the easy-install.pth file is the one that points to flup: import sys; sys.__plen = len(sys.path) ./setuptools-0.6c6-py2.5.egg ./flup-1.0.1-py2.5.egg import sys; new=sys.path[sys.__plen:]; del sys.path[sys.__plen:]; p=getattr(sys,'__egginsert',0); sy s.path[p:p]=new; sys.__egginsert = p+len(new) It looks like it's doing something funky, anyway to edit this or add something to my code so it will find flup?

  • Backtick (Grave accent) button sticking

    I have Ubuntu 12.04 running in a Virtual Box virtual machine, on my Windows 7 32bit system. It has been working great, except that the backtick/tilde button sticks(not physically). When I hit the backtick button it keeps repeating until another input button is pressed. So if I press the spacebar while the backtick is repeating, it stops, but if I press the shift while it is repeating, the backtick turns into a tilde, and the tilde keeps repeating until I release the shift key (at which point it's a backtick again and keeps repeating). This sticking behavior only happens with the backtick key, and only in my Ubuntu virtualization, never in windows. I've tried both my laptop's keyboard and an external USB keyboard and the problem happens on both. Both keyboards I've tried are Japanese 106/109 key layout, but I'm using them with a English(US) 101 profile. When I refer to the backtick key above, I mean where it is on the US layout. If I use the Japanese profile, the key in that location (the US backtick location) still sticks, but its no longer mapped as the backtick key. Any thoughts as to what might be causing this and possible solutions? I've searched a lot, but have not found any help so far. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • iPhone - how to store documents consisting of multiple images?

    My iPhone (actually, iPad) app creates documents that consist of several images, plus a bit of metadata. What's the best practice for storing these sorts of documents on disk? I see two main options: Create a folder for each document, and store my images as separate PNG files within the folder (plus another little file for the metadata). Create a single file which contains all images and metadata. But I'm not sure how to easily do option 2. I think I can convert my images in PNG format to/from NSData, but then what? I'm still a newbie at Cocoa, but I believe I saw something about stuffing mixed data into some NSSomethingOrOther and having this write itself out to disk, and read itself back in later. Does this ring a bell with anyone? And, will it work with large binary blobs of data like my images? Or would you recommend I simply go with option 1?

  • IE7 is not positioning dialog properly on window resize

    Like I said, IE7 (and IE6 but I don't really care IE6 that much) doesn't position dialog properly on window resize. When window is re sized, dialog goes down and down. IE8 FF Chrome Safari all work properly and position and re size dialog just fine but IE7 it re sizes the dialog but positions incorrectly.   • How to enable 'Add Config Transforms' for old Visual Studio 2008 project?

    I am working in the new Visual Studio 2010 RTM and I would like to use web.config transforms. My site is configured to use .NET 4.0 but it was formerly as Visual Studio 2008 web application project. When I right-click on my web.config file I do not see the 'Add Config Transforms' option as I should. I also tried adding creating a new web.config but I still do not see the transform option. Does anyone know how to enable web.config transforms for projects in Visual Studio 2010 that were originally created in Visual Studio 2008?

  • Application compiled by Flex Builder 3 does not trace

    I've built a simple application in Flex Builder 3 with some trace() calls. It's an "ActionScript Project", no MXML or AIR involved. I don't run the app from within Eclipse, I just open the generated html file with Firefox. I'm using the Flash Player 10 Debug version. I've correctly set mm.cnf to log trace output, following the official instructions. A flashlog.txt file is generate in the appropriate location. Despite all that, trace output is not shown in the log file. What am I doing wrong? (I suspect it's a compiler option, but I can find no such option in the project options in FlexBuilder) (If I do run the app from Eclipse, by pressing F11, I can see trace output but only inside Eclipse, not in the log file)

  • Code Coverage and Unit Testing of Python Code

    I have already visited Preferred Python unit-testing framework. I am not just looking at Python Unit Testing Framework, but also code coverage with respect to unit tests. So far I have only come across coverage.py. Is there any better option? An interesting option for me is to integrate cpython, unit testing of Python code and code coverage of Python code with Visual Studio 2008 through plugins (something similar to IronPython Studio). What can be done to achieve this? I look forward to suggestions.

  • How to stop flash content shine-through JQuery UI Dialog in FF Windows

    I'm using the jQuery UI dialog box, in IE & FF on Windows I'm getting underlying flash content shining through the dialog box. I resolved this on IE by enabling the bgiframe option on the jQuery dialog window and changing the bgiframe script to apply to any windows browsers, however I'm still getting the shine-through on FF. Note that I can't know exactly where the flash content will be showing as it is usually flash widgets that users have added to pages, although I have thought about hiding the flash content temporarily while displaying the dialog box - is this the only option left to me?

  • Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 Certified on Solaris 11

    Oracle Solaris 11 was announced last week, and I'm pleased to also announce that Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 is now certified on Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit). This new operating system release represents a culmination of years of hard work by our Solaris engineering group.  It has a number of new and advanced features including simplified deployment and lifecycle management tools, built-in certified virtualization technologies, support on the latest generation SPARC chips, and more. New installations of the E-Business Suite R12 on this platform will require version 12.1.1 or higher and the latest Rapid Install startCD version 12.1.1.13.  For existing 12.1 installations, we have also certified an "in place" OS upgrade or the use of cloning to a target Solaris 11 system.     Hi I'm using Joomla 1.5.14 and I configured SEO as in the following image Now I need to map a few old URL to the new site let's say that I need to map htp://mysite/old.html to the new Joomla page http://mysite/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=32&Itemid=70 I added in my .htaccess file the following RewriteRule ^old\.html$ index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=32&Itemid=70 #works!! this works fine, but if I use the SEF URL in .htaccess (let's say the above page can be reached with htp://mysite/contacts.html), I obtain a 404 error RewriteRule ^old\.html$ contacts.html #this does not work Now the question: Is it possible use SEF URLs in RewriteRule? where am I wrong? thank you in advance stefano

  • I want to build a Virtual Machine, are there any good references?

    I'm looking to build a Virtual Machine as a platform independent way to run some game code (essentially scripting). The Virtual Machines that I'm aware of in games are rather old: Infocom's Z-Machine, LucasArts' SCUMM, id Software's Quake 3. As a .net Developer, I'm familiar with the CLR and looked into the CIL Instructions to get an overview of what you actually implement on a VM Level (vs. the language level). I've also dabbled a bit in 6502 Assembler during the last year. The thing is, now that I want¹ to implement one, I need to dig a bit deeper. I know that there are stack based and register based VMs, but I don't really know which one is better at what and if there are more or hybrid approaches. I need to deal with memory management, decide which low level types are part of the VM and need to understand why stuff like ldstr works the way it does. My only reference book (apart from the Z-Machine stuff) is the CLI Annotated Standard, but I wonder if there is a better, more general/fundamental lecture for VMs? Basically something like the Dragon Book, but for VMs? I'm aware of Donald Knuth's Art of Computer Programming which uses a register-based VM, but I'm not sure how applicable that series still is, especially since it's still unfinished? Clarification: The goal is to build a specialized VM. For example, Infocom's Z-Machine contains OpCodes for setting the Background Color or playing a sound. So I need to figure out how much goes into the VM as OpCodes vs. the compiler that takes a script (language TBD) and generates the bytecode from it, but for that I need to understand what I'm really doing. ¹ I know, modern technology would allow me to just interpret a high level scripting language on the fly. But where is the fun in that? :) It's also a bit hard to google because Virtual Machines is nowadays often associated with VMWare-type OS Virtualization...
