• A little javascript help needed here (easy).

- by Camran
function addOption(selectbox, val, txt){ ...... } addOption(list, "Cars", "Cars"); I need to add this in front of the text of the function: So that there is space coming in before the option text...Never mind what it is for, it is just confusing... I just don't know how to insert it into the js code. If I do it like this: addOption(list, "Cars", " Cars"); Then the comes into the text, so it gets displayed for the users. However I need it to be interpreted as "space"... If you don't understand let me know... How can I do this? Quotes, double quotes etc? Thanks

• Update someones birthday with javascript

- by user2768038
So far the only mathematical way I can think of doing it is this: var age = 18 var today = new Date(); var myDate = new Date(); myDate.setFullYear(2013,3,13); /* My birthday is april 13th */ var y = (today - myDate); var days = ( y / (1000*60*60*24)); if(days >= 360){ var age = age +1; } if(days >= 720){ var age = age +1; } //etc...... document.write(age); Is there a better way of doing the if statements? so that I don't have to write one out for every year? I can't think!

• javascript Programmically exit fullsreen

- by Mark
I understand why browsers would disallow websites from programically making the browser fullscreen. However, users typically expect the 'esc' button to exit from full screen, and browsers simply don't do that. Is there any way to get the browser to exit from full screen. Thanks.

• JavaScript Self Executing Functions - What's the Difference?

- by modernzombie
I am very familiar with self executing functions from working with jQuery. (function($) { /* do stuff */ })(jQuery); Today I was reading the backbone.js source and noticed that they do this: (function() { /* do stuff */ }).call(this); Is this achieving the same thing? Would the following 2 lines of code do the same thing? (function($) { /* do stuff */ })(jQuery); (function($) { /* do stuff */ }).call(jQuery);

• trouble with a javascript Cannot read property 'value' of

- by Stanislas Piotrowski
I've done a function but I do not understand why, a part of it does not work. Actualy I use the methode using className and Id. Here is the part of the code: var items = new Array(); var itemCount = document.getElementsByClassName("items"); for(var i = 0; i < itemCount.length; i++) { items[i] = document.getElementById("p"+(i+1)).value; } return items; } And in jsfiddle the html part that show that this Id exist. So it should not return to me this errors: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'value' of null fiddle.jshell.net:402 the concerned line is the following: items[i] = document.getElementById("p"+(i+1)).value; http://jsfiddle.net/Wt4qd/ Kind Regards SP.

• Why is this NaN to javascript?

- by MJB
I have this object printed with console.log Array[1] 0: Object address: "blablabalbala" datatype: "Location" icon: "cafetaria" id: "/mensa/wo_mensa1_turm.std.php" kind: "Mensa" lat: 50.777016 lon: 6.080348 sortkey: "zeltmensa, forum cafete" stationId: "/mensa/wo_mensa1_turm.std.php" title: "Zeltmensa, Forum Cafete" type: "Mensa" But console.log("nav to: "+data[0].lat+" "+data[0].lon); gives me undefined undefined, and at another point NaN NaN.. I don't understand this. It also doesn't let me use any other attributes like data[0].addresse, which returns undefined aswell. Thanks for help.

• jQuery/Javascript Cookies and variable returning with value [object Object]

- by user1706661
I am attempting to set a cookie to a site using jQuery, ONLY if the user came from a specific site. In this case, lets use -http://referrersite.com- as the site they must come from for the cookie to be created as an example. The cookie value is being stored in a variable and everything up to this point is working fine. There is a conditional statement checking whether the user came from the referred site, if the cookie exists already and if the cookie doesn't exist and the user did not come from the referred site. If the user came from the referred site the cookie is created and stored in a variable. If the cookie already exists, it is then stored in a variable. If the cookie does not exist and the user did not come from the referred site I am assigning the variable a static string of characters - this is where the issue lies. When the variable is alerted from the non referred site and no existing cookie, it returns: [object Object], not the static string of characters. The code I am using is below: $(document).ready(function() { var referrer = document.referrer; if(referrer == "http://referrersite.com") { $.cookie("code","123456", { expires: 90, path: '/' }); cookieContainer = $.cookie("code"); alert(cookieContainer); } else if($.cookie("code")) { cookieContainer = $.cookie("code"); alert(cookieContainer); } else if($.cookie("code") == null && referrer != "http://referrersite.com") { cookieContainer = "67890"; alert(cookieContainer); } }); Please let me know if there is something I am missing as the code to me looks like it should work. Thanks!

• Loop through Javascript array, print with string.

- by Adam
I have a simple array like: var myArr=["one","two","three"]; an I have a counting loop, which increases the value of var "i" by one. What I want to do is print the next value from the array each time the loop runs, next to a text string, like so: alert('value number '+myArr[i]+); But for some reason I can't get this to work. The following code works, so I'm assuming I'm not calling the counter right: alert('value number '+myArr[0]+);

- by dave
I'm trying to extract some results from a download manager, the format is: [#8760e4 4.3MiB/40MiB(10%) CN:2 DL:4.9MiB ETA:7s] what I'd like to extract from the above example, would be an array that looks like this: ['4.3','MiB','40','MiB','10%','4.9','MiB','7','s'] I've tried to split this in various combinations, but nothing seems to be right. Would anyone happen to know how to do this or be able to offer suggestions? Thank you!

• Form validation in JAvascript with Regexp

- by Nikita Barsukov
I have a webpage with an input field where only digits are allowed. The input field has an onkeyup event that starts this validating function: function validate() { var uah_amount = document.getElementById("UAH").value; var allowed = /^\d+$/; document.getElementById("error").innerHTML = document.getElementById("UAH").value; if (!allowed.test(uah_amount)) { document.getElementById("error").style.backgroundColor = "red"; } } Everything works as I expect until I hit Backspace button to remove some characters. In this case function always behaves as if I entered letters. How to correct this?
