• How do I make more available space on a Time Machine hard disk?

  I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard, and made some other changes that have caused my next Time Machine backup to be quite large. Previous to the upgrade my backup drive had filled up, so Time Machine was deleting old backups to make room for new ones. When Time Machine started the first backup after the upgrade, it displayed a message that it was freeing up space. But it wasn't able to free up enough: (The disk has 320 GB capacity.) How can I free up more space on the disk (without reformatting or deleting all the existing backups)? I don't want to recklessly delete files and take the risk of confusing Time Machine.

• thttpd: Daemon exiting, I don't know why

  I run thttpd to serve some perl files. But for some reason the daemon is exiting every second or third day. Strangely it's always at 6.25 am. • How to access an encrypted INI file from C on an embedded system with little RAM

  I want to encrypt an INI file using a Delphi program on a Windows PC. Then I need to decrypt & access it in C on an embedded system with little RAM. I will do that once & fetch all info; I will not be consutinuously accessing the INI file whenever my program needs data from the file. Any advice as to which encryption to use? Nothing too heavyweight, just good enough for "Security through obscurity" and FOSS for both Delphi & C. And how can I decrypt, get all the info from the INI file - using as little RAM as possible, and then free any allocated RAM? I hope that someone can help. [Update] I am currently using an Atmel UC3, although I am not sure if that will be the final case. It has 512kB falsh & 128kB RAM. For an INI file, I am talking of max 8 sections, with a total of max 256 entries, each max 8 chars. I chose INI (but am not married to it), because i have had major problems in the past when the format of a data fiel changes, no matter whether binary, or text. For tex, I prefer the free format of INI (on PC), but suppose I could switch to line_1=data_1, line_2=data_2 and accept that if I add new fields in future software erleases they must come at the end, even if it is not pretty when read directly by humans. I suppose if I choose a fixed format text file then I never need get more than one line into RAM at a time ...

• Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32bit does not detect 4Gb ram

  I have recently installed 4Gb of ram for an existing 12.04 32bit Ubuntu. • Legal Web Fonts & Licensing

  So I'm a little confused in regards to legality of using fonts for web. Often from designers I get a PSD file and it uses a special font, and the font is supplied. However attempting to convert the font using: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface/generator Ends up with a message saying it's blocked by Adobe. Not only that sometimes if the font can be converted, it often looks like crap when viewed in a browser. I assume that the generator is primarily for people to convert their own fonts, but if you purchase the use of a font then you can only use it for Web if the terms allows you to? The fonts used in PSD's are often Adobe Fonts, I can't find anything that suggests I can convert those and use them on the web. So I'm wondering if anyone knows the legal rights around using Photoshop supplied fonts on the web? In addition I'm wondering what resources are available (free/paid) that provide fonts that can be used on the web.   Chrome: Bookmark Sentry, a free Chrome extension, takes the hard work out of checking your bookmark file for bad links and duplicates. Install it, forget about it, and get scheduled reports on the state of your bookmarks file. It’s that simple. Once you install the extension, open the options to toggle some basic settings to your liking (like the frequency of the scan, how long you want it to wait for a response, and whether you want it to look for bad links and/or duplicates). Once it finishes scanning you’ll get a report indicating the status of the links (why they are marked as missing or duped) and the ability to selectively or mass delete them. The only caveat we’d share is that it will tell you links behind any sort of security are unavailable. If you bookmark pages that you use for work, behind your corporate firewall for example, if the scanner runs when you’re not authenticated then it won’t be able to reach them. • Suitable SDK to develop quick game?

  I'm currently undertaking a personal project at home that I need to turn around inside the next few months (which working full time and still learning programming makes it a tad difficult). I'm looking for suggestions on SDK's or tools (preferably free or that come with games, similar to steam tools) that I can use to develop a "game". I'm OK with coding but have no 3D development skills at all. I've very little experience with mod tools or SDK's at all but I'm hoping someone can point me in the direction of one that does the following: A decent library of prefab 3D models to build scenes. Ability to add scripting to the scene I've used Unity before and would prefer to continue to do so however I really have the worst 3D skills imaginable and can't waste time learning them. I'd be looking for pre-fab items that are both industrial and possibly more lush environments (trees etc). If it makes any difference (due to licencing and what-not) I WILL NOT be selling this game or marketing it in any way and I am a University Student if any places do educations licences. Another alternative would be to source free 3d models elsewhere but again while I'm still learning I have no idea where to look if someone could point me in the right direction I'll do the rest of the digging.   I need a recovery software that has the features of reclaime file recovery. Those are, to be able to read image files, to keep folder structure, to be as efficient but to be free. I can't afford reclaime and all free software that i know out there either support folder structure but cannot read an image of the array created or the opposite. Can somebody suggest some software? PS: I used reclaime to create an image of my RAID0 broken array and with reclaime file recovery i can see all my files intact but i cannot recover without purchase.

• Windows move to external monitor when closing lid

  I'm using Cinnamon (on 12.10) on a laptop (Compaq 6710b business model) with an external monitor. Both screens run at 1680 x 1050, the external monitor is located on the right. During normal operation everything works fine; windows open in whatever monitor my mouse pointer is when they open and I can freely drag them to the other monitor. When I close the lid of my laptop both displays shut down as expected. When I open the lid, however, the lock window opens on the external monitor and any windows that were open on the laptop screen have moved to the external monitor as well. Nothing happens between closing the lid and opening it; no suspend, powerdown, hibernate or anything, monitor stays attached; even mouse is untouched (pointer on laptop screen). Is there any way to fix it so my windows stay on whatever monitor I left them before closing the lid? Alternative solutions are welcome.

• Minimum brightness level is brighter than the levels just above it

  I'm using a macbook pro 8,1. When I use the brightness keys on the keyboard, decreasing the brightness works until it reaches the lowest brightness level. At that point (when on the lowest level), the brightness is something like 70 or 80% instead of 0-10% (or whatever it usually is). All the other levels are fine. How can I adjust/calibrate these brightness controls? PS: I'm currently using 12.04 but I've had the same issue no later than 11.10 (and I'm fairly confident it was present in 11.04 as well). UPDATE: If I go to System Settings and select "Brightness and Lock" the exact same thing happens, but there is more fine grained control of the brightness. It goes to completely black when the dial is about 10% from the left edge. When it passes that point, anywhere inside that left 10% appears to be about 70 - 80% brightness (there's no change regardless of where the dial is in this section).

• My HP-Vista based laptop has become very slow recently

  My HP laptop which has Vista Home premium. When I try to start Firefox, internet explorer, it becomes very slow. No other app. When i checked the Performance in Task Manager. It shows the Physical memory , Free as 0 bytes, almost always. This has been recently. Earlier it didn't used to be zero. Laptop has 2GB of RAM. I have nothing running in my tray except - Sound control, Laptop power plan indicator,Network status indicator. There are no other processes whose memory usage adds up to so high to make Free memory as 0. Then what could be hogging the memory and make the laptop very slow. Any pointers would help as it is crawling at the moment.

• Forum engine with full LDAP integration [closed]

  We are looking for forum engine which may actually maintain user data into LDAP, maybe via mods. Core point is about ability to maintain the data, i.e. all user profile settings, like nickname, password, email, avatar, birthday and others (preferably configurable). One example of good ldap integration, level of which I'm expecting, is drupal's ldap integration, which allows to map any user's attribute into ldap and keeps it in sync with database. Year ago I've done a small research over existing Free&FOSS engines and find out few forum engines with LDAP integration, namely SFM, phpBB and something else. The most maintained solution were provided by phpBB3, which supports LDAP integration out-of-box, but it is unable to sync data with changes in LDAP server made by other software. Actually it wasn't even propagating changes back, I'm not saying about ability to map additional attributes (other than name/password/email). Also, I haven't found any forum with architecture which have proper abstraction over user settings, thus I doubt that this engines (including phpBB) are possible to mod such functionality without introducing dramatic changes into core codebase. More recent research showed that even some commercial software, like IPB is unable to keep it's database synced with LDAP directory and map additional attributes. In other words, all support I've seen so far is simple user creation upon first user's login, which is not good for us, as forum is not primary site and should not maintain it's own users base (to reduce risk of possible collisions). LDAP import is required due to many other services (ftp, email, jabber, drupal site) using same users base. Currently we have forum embedded into Drupal site, but we are unsatisfied with it's features. BTW, we are using Linux and this is not duplicate of this question, as it's author seems to be satisfied with behaviour described above. So, my question is: Are there any (preferably FOSS&free) forum engines that may import, export, keep in sync, or otherwise integrade with LDAP user database (preferably with ability to map additional fields to ldap attributes)?
