  Hi, I am planning on starting my 1st VSTO project. What I want to be able to do is: Download and Upload versions of a MS Word document to a web service. With authentication by overriding the save button Call a web service to list a bunch of tag that can be inserted into a document. When a user double clicks a tag the selected tag is inserted into the cursor position. I am pretty sure this is all possible just want some confirmation? Also would like to know how long would it take to make something like this. I think the biggest issue will be authentication and listing exiting files to download then allowing the user to download a .doc and restore previous versions of that file via the web service.

• Updating/Inserting multiple rows using jQuery and OData (WCF Data Services)

  I have three tables, Template, Fields and TemplateFields. TemplateFields holds the selected fields for each template. I need to update TemplateFields when the user is finished selecting the fields. The only way I can see to do this is by deleting all the TemplateFields for that Template and then add them one by one in separate requests. This is really bad because there is not transaction to fall back onto and there will also be MANY requests. Is there a way of adding multiple 'objects' at once using WCF Data Services? I can then use an Interceptor to update the database.

• How to programatically set cell.textLabel.text from a different view?

  I've got a view controller, call it VC1, that's a table view. When I tap a cell in the table view, I am presented with a new view controller, call it VC2, which is a short list of choices. After making a choice, I want to dismiss VC2 and set the cell.textLabel.text property of the VC1 cell I originally tapped to the value I selected in VC2. Conceptually speaking, what is the proper way to do this? I've tried a handful of different approaches, but all of them seem wonky at best, and only one of them actually worked - although it was the most cumbersome of all, passing references to both view controllers and table view cells and all kinds of things. It just feels like I'm making a mountain out of what is probably a mole hill. This is such a common paradigm that I find it hard to believe there's not a simple method for doing it. Thanks in advance for any input you can offer.

• Clean way to display/hide a bunch of buttons based on a ComboBox selection

  I'm writing a standalone application in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2005. I want to display/hide a bunch of Buttons based on the selected value of a ComboBox. Each selection would have a different set of Buttons to display, and I'd like to have them arranged in a nice grid. Driving a TabControl with the ComboBox value would be the kind of behavior I want, but I don't want it to look like a TabControl to the user because it might be confusing. Is there a way to do this? Basically, I'd like Selection1 of the ComboBox to show Buttons 1-4, Selection2 to show Buttons 5-11, Selection3 to show (maybe) Buttons 1, 3, 5, 6, and 8, etc., have them arranged nicely, and have the GUI show only the ComboBox and the buttons.   We are a network of Mac computers. I would like to send email addresses to colleagues with links to files on network locations. I made the following applescript: tell application "Finder" set uuu to URL of the first item of (get the selection) set the clipboard to uuu end tell which puts the URL of the currently selected file into the clipboard, which can then be pasted into the message (using the Add Link menu item), providing, for example: file://localhost/Volumes/Commerciale/Clienti/ unfortunately these links do not work. If I select Go To Folder from the menu item, I can get to the folder using an afp:// type url. Is there any way to get this via applescript like I do with url above? Thanks

• Debugging "Incorrect Syntax" Exception

  I have recently been working with a COM+ component that processes an input XML file, and makes a number of database updates based on the supplied data. Running SQL Profiler with EventClass Exception, and User Error Message selected, I see: Exception Error: 102, Severity: 15, State: 1 User Error Message Incorrect syntax near '3'. However I really want to see the full SQL that is being supplied by the COM+ component. Is there anyway for me using Profiler, or other, for me to intercept the SQL statement that was sent to the SQL Server? This machine is using SQL Server 2005, and the COM+ object is written in Delphi.

  Ok, firstly this is not about forms this is about consistent layout as a user explores a site. let me explain: If we imagine a (non-ajax) digital camera online store, say someone was on the DSLR section and specified to view the cameras in Gallery mode and order by price. They then click onto the Compact camera's page. It would be in the users interests if the 'views' they selected we're carried over to this new page. Now, i'd say use a session - am i wrong? are there performance issues i should be aware of for a few small session vars ( ie view=1 , orderby=price) ?

• Background Image w/Quartz Drawing

  I'm using Quartz to do some basic drawing. I recently decided I wanted a background image for my app. So I went into my XIB file and added a UIImageView and set the background, looks good. However, when I run it, the Z-Index of the image is above my drawing. I googled a bit and found that you can do Layout Send to Back in IB...but that option is grayed out to me when I have my UIImageView selected. Is there an easy way to move this UIImageView permanently to the background? Is there perhaps an alternate method to doing this that I should consider? Thanks

To clear any selection in the table view before it’s displayed, implement the viewWillAppear: method to clear the selected row (if any) by calling deselectRowAtIndexPath:animated:. After the table view has been displayed, you should flash the scroll view’s scroll indicators by sending a flashScrollIndicators message to the table view; you can do this in an override of the viewDidAppear: method of UIViewController. So lets say I do my custom stuff here and I do not flash the scroll indicator, and I do not reset the selection (which I think is wrong anyways, the user wants to know from where he came from). Will they reject it?

• Keyboard shortcut for Jump to Definition

  I'm looking for a keyboard only shortcut for Jump to Definition. The built-in shortcut requires the mouse: Cmd + Double click. I've tried to add a regular keyboard shorcut for the Edit / Find / Jump to Defintion menu command, but, alas, it will only work when the method name is selected. I'd like to be able to position the cursor within the method name, class name, or other symbol, and hit something like Cmd+Shift+L. Does anyone know of a solution, perhaps using a script, for the problem? Update: The keyboard shortcut works sometimes and sometimes not. When I position the text cursor on a method call with no parameters and press Cmd+Shift+L it takes me to the definition. But it doesn't work for a method that takes an (id) parameter. However it works if the parameter is an int. I have submitted a bug report to Apple.

• Flash upload problems (FileReferenceList, timeouts, #2038 )

  Hello! I'm having problems with timeouts while trying to upload multiple files by using FileReferenceList. upload() is being called in a loop for all selected files on Event.SELECT event of FileReferenceList, but only 2 files are being uploaded simultaneously (I also see 2 opened sockets that are used for uploading by running netstat -aon | find "127.0.0.1:80"). If uploading of any file is not started in 60 seconds, I get a #2038 error. E.g., if I try to upload three large files (like 500MB each), first two uploads are started immediately, third one is not started (because limit is 2 simultaneous uploads) and it fails after 60 seconds with #2038 error (I'm fairly sure that this is because of timeout - tested it). This could be solved by calling upload() only when uploading previous file is completed, but I don't want to "hard-code" the number of possible simultaneous uploads (2 on my PC). Is there any way to get/set this number at runtime?

• Subversion: What to do with branches, tags and trunk folders?

  A little background first: I'm a designer/developer and decided to use subversion for a personal project. I'm the only one working on this project. I've setup a Beanstalk account and installed Versions on Mac. Locally I have MySQL and PHP running through MAMP. First thing I did in Versions is click the 'checkout' button. I selected my webroot folder and a folder has been created with three subfolders: branches, tags, trunk. I don't understand what to do with this. My code lives in the webroot and a bunch of subfolders and I can't move my code to any of the three folders without breaking things. So, my question is, how do I tell Versions that my code is in the webroot folder and not in the folder it created itself?

  My problem is the page shows a vertical line of options. I want to put them into a 4 column table to display instead of just down lhs of page. • Why state cannot be part of Presenter in MVP?

One of them is persistence of the View’s state. For instance, if the Model, being a domain object, does not know anything about the UI, and the View does not implement any business logic, then where would we store the state of the View’s elements such as selected items? Fowler comes up with a solution in the form of a Presentation Model pattern. I wonder why Presenter can't hold View state? It already holds all View logic. As far as I understand, in MVC and MVP the state is kept in View. In PM and MVVM the state is kept in the Presentation Model. Why can't Presenter follow PM in this particular case and contain the state of the view?   I want to extract some links from a XML document (links are in same format as on html pages). Now for eg a link is "http://xyz.com/start/tyu/a.html" and another is "http://ert.com/tyu/b.html" while a third link is "http://asdf.com/ghjk/c.html" From the above 3 links (which I have with me using a for clause in a FLWOR expression)...I want only the links which contain within them a string "tyu" to be selected-- I thought of using substring for this, but substring requires start and end positions to be specified- whereas in my scenario, I dont know at which position the desired string will be. How do I do substring matching in such a scenario, i.e. where exact position for occurrence of substring, is not known? I can use XQuery 1.0 for this purpose. Finally, I want to extract the link URL, as well as link text...

• Does Google provide any Android tutorials that teach how to implement a Service?

  I apologize in advance for the "newbie" nature of this question. Here is my predicament: I'm brand new to android and developing in general. I'm using android's SDK with eclipse Galileo. I've followed several tutorials to create different layouts. I've even learned recently how to use radio buttons and verify which ones were selected. Now I need to create a service that downloads and updates an xml file within the application. I've tried to locate a simple tutorial for services on Google's developer site but so far, so bad. If they exist could somebody point me in the right direction? On the other hand, I've been told Google's tutorials are a little out dated. Is that true? If so, are there any other tutorials that would hand-hold (and possibly over-explain) how to use a service to a true newbie for free (like google)? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
