• algorithm to combine data for linear fit?

  I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but you guys have been helpful with plenty of my CS homework in the past so I figure I'll give it a shot. I'm looking for an algorithm to blindly combine several dependent variables into an index that produces the best linear fit with an external variable. Basically, it would combine the dependent variables using different mathematical operators, include or not include each one, etc. until an index is developed that best correlates with my external variable. Has anyone seen/heard of something like this before? Even if you could point me in the right direction or to the right place to ask, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

• IE7 jQuery(document).ready() problem

  I have a page that works perfectly fine in Firefox, but is throwing an error in IE. I am loading jQuery dynamically (if it is not already loaded), and then doing some stuff in the jQuery(document).ready() block. However, IE throws the dreaded "Object expected" error when it hits the jQuery(document).ready() block. You can view the full page code here: http://www.pastie.org/977767 IE is throwing the error right at jQuery(document).ready(). Any ideas as to what is going here? Again, this works perfectly fine in Firefox. It seems almost like IE thinks jQuery is loaded but it really isn't yet or that jQuery is still loading when the jQuery(document).ready() block is encountered?

  I have four variables of type integer - var tip_1, tip_2, tip_3, tip_4; The value of these variables are getting fill by some other logic which is always between 1 to 10. I need to maintain a hash with variable name as "key" and value as "value" by following these rules - The variable with MAX value should be the first element in the hash and so on. e.g. if tip_1 = 4, tip_2 = 1, tip_3 = 2, tip_4 = 10 then hash should be something like, Hash = {tip_4, 10} {tip_1, 4} {tip_3, 2} {tip_1, 1} In case of tie following order should be considered - tip_1 tip_2 tip_3 tip_4;

• Member variable in C++ class that is always constant for all objects of that class?

  I'm constructing a class where I have three member variables that I want to always be the same value NO MATTER WHAT. I have class foo{ public: double var_1, var_2, var_3; double x=1, y=2, z=3; [functions go here] }; that gave me an error since I can't initialize a variable like that. But I want x, y and z to always be 1, 2 and 3 respectively. I tried defining them outside the class but that doesn't work since I want them to be member variables of the class. How do I do this?

  DBMS_ASSERT is one of the keys to prevent SQL injection attacks in Oracle. I tried a cursory search...is there any SQL Server 2005/2008 equivalent for this functionality? I am looking for a specific implementation that has a counterpart of all the respective Oracle package members of DBMS_ASSERT. NOOP SIMPLE_SQL_NAME QUALIFIED_SQL_NAME SCHEMA_NAME I know the best-practices of preventing injection...bind variables...being one of them. But,in this question I am specifically looking for a good way to sanitize input...in scenarios where bind-variables were not used. Do you have any specific implemetations?   Hi, I need to write some data in several database. I choose sqlapi.com I have made it for mysql and mssql. Now I have Problem with Oracle database. I have installed server and client on Ubuntu. In browser it works, but sqlapi says: libnnz10.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory DBMS API Library 'libclntsh.so' loading fails This library is a part of DBMS client installation, not SQLAPI++ Make sure DBMS client is installed and this required library is available for dynamic loading Linux/Unix: 1) The directories in the user's LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable 2) The list of libraries cached in /etc/ld.so.cache 3) /usr/lib, followed by /lib There are both of these files depp inside /usr/lib. I have tried a lot of ways to say eclipse path to this folder, but nothing works. Thanks for help.

  I have always wondered how people update a previous line in a command line. a great example of this is when using the wget command in linux. It creates an ASCII loading bar of sorts that looks like this: [======                    ] 37% and of course the loading bar moves and the percent changes, But it doesn't make a new line.   I have some experience with multithread programming under Linux (C/C++ & POSIX threads), however most obvious cases are sometimes very complicated. I have several static constant variables (global and function local) in my code, can I access them simultaneously from multiple threads without using mutexes? Because I don't modify them it should be ok, but it's always better to ask. I have to do heavy speed optimization, so even as fast operations as mutex lock/unlock are quite expensive for me, especially because my application is going to access these variables form long loops.

• Firing events in script task

  I've got an SSIS project where I am constructing an SQL command based on some variables. I'm constructing the command in a script task, and want to output the constructed SQL to the 'Execution Results' window. I am trying to do this using a FireInformation line from inside my script as follows: Dts.Events.FireInformation(99, "test", "Make this event appear!", "", 0, true); However, in the script editor when editing ScriptMain.cs, that line is underlined in red, and on mouseover, I get the following message: Error: The best overloaded method match for 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Tasks.ScriptTask.EventsObjectWrapper.FireInformation(int, string, string, string, int, ref bool') has some invalid arguments As a result, my script does not compile and I cannot execute it. Any idea what I'm doing wrong here, or what I need to change to be able to see the values of my variables at this point in the Execution output?

• How to make my WPF application as FAST as Outlook

  The commons WPF applications take some time for loading medium complex views, once the view is loaded it works fine. For example in a Master - Detail view, if the Detail view is very complex and use different DataTemplates take some seconds (2-3 seconds) for load the view. When i open the Outlook application, for instance, it renders complex views and it is relative much more fast. Is there a way for increase the performance of my WPF application? Maybe a way for not loading the template's data every time that change the "master" item, and load it only one time in the app time live? i will appreciate any suggestion.

• int i vs int index etc. Which one is better?

  Coming from a C background I've always used int i for generic loop variables. Of course in big nested loops or other complex things I may use a descriptive name but which one had you rather see? int i; for(i=0;i<Controls.Count;i++){ DoStuff(Controls[i]); } or int index; for(index=0;index<Controls.Count;index++){ DoStuff(Controls[index]); } In the current project I am working on there are both of these styles and index being replaced by ndx. Which one is better? Is the i variable too generic? Also what about the other C style names? i, j, k Should all of these be replaced by actual descriptive variables?

• How does the CLR (.NET) internally allocate and pass around custom value types (structs)?

  Question: Do all CLR value types, including user-defined structs, live on the evaluation stack exclusively, meaning that they will never need to be reclaimed by the garbage-collector, or are there cases where they are garbage-collected? Background: I have previously asked a question on SO about the impact that a fluent interface has on the runtime performance of a .NET application. I was particuarly worried that creating a large number of very short-lived temporary objects would negatively affect runtime performance through more frequent garbage-collection. Now it has occured to me that if I declared those temporary objects' types as struct (ie. as user-defined value types) instead of class, the garbage collector might not be involved at all if it turns out that all value types live exclusively on the evaluation stack. What I've found out so far: I did a brief experiment to see what the differences are in the CIL generated for user-defined value types and reference types.   We have an ASP.NET MVC application + IIS 7.5 + SQL Server 2008 R2. We have to load a lot of aggregate counters on the each page. We decided to use ajax and call with javascript for each counter or groups of counters and return them as JSON result. We solve the problem that user doesn't wait for page loading, page loads fast. User waits for counters loading while seeing other page content. But we thought that if we make calls from javascript - our queries will be make async, but we notice, that it is not. All our javascipt calls runs immediately, but action that they invoke are in queue. If we use Async Controller ability - all counters calculating simultaneously, but user has to wait for the longest counter calculating before page loads. The question: We want to understand what is happens if we use ajax and call two or more actions simultaneously. And how can we configuring this. (also in each action we make some queries to sql server)

  hi i tried to invoke another activity from my main acitivty which is located in a jar file. Class clazz = Class.forName(getPackageName() + "." + getActivityName()); startActivity(new Intent(this, clazz)); Im doing it this way because i only know the name of the class. This works fine but unfortunately, all resource files can't be found while loading the activity from the jar file. at the first occurence of loading a res file there is a ResourceNotFoundException: 04-30 11:18:46.944: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1749): Caused by: android.content.res.Resources$NotFoundException: Resource ID #0x7f040006 any hints for that? thanks!

• Passing Session[] and Request[] to Methods in C#

  In C#, How do you pass the Session[] and Request[] objects to a method? I would like to use a method to parse out Session and Request paramaters for a .aspx page to reduce the size of my Page_Load method. I am passing quite a few variables, and need to support both POSTand GET methods. For most calls, not all variables are present, so I have to test every variable multiple ways, and the code gets long... • Can ANYONE get _lockroot to work?

  Hi Guys, I have the following code which ultimately loads a SWF into movieclip 'myloader' using a movie clip loader, code as follows: var myload:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader(); var listener:Object = new Object(); myload.addListener(listener); listener.onLoadStart = function(){ animcontainer.myloader._lockroot = true; trace("Started"); } listener.onLoadInit = function(){ animcontainer.myloader._lockroot = true; trace("finished and locked"); } listener.onLoadComplete = function(){ animcontainer.myloader._lockroot = true; } myload.loadClip(path, animcontainer.myloader); The swf I am loading has pause, rewind and play buttons that must be referencing _root as they work fine when played alone. Upon loading them into myloader they no longer work. Based on the above code surely the myloader clip should be locking as _root after the load is complete? I have Googled myself dry on this one, no luck. ANY help will be much appreciated, Thanks.

• 'Caching' a large table in ASP.NET

  I understand that each page refresh, especially in 'AjaxLand', causes my back-end/code-behind class to be called from scratch... This is a problem because my class (which is a member object in System.Web.UI.Page) contains A LOT of data that it sources from a database. So now every page refresh in AjaxLand is causing me to making large backend DB calls, rather than just to reuse a class object from memory. Any fix for this? Is this where session variables come into play? Are session variables the only option I have to retain an object in memory that is linked to a single-user and a single-session instance?

• Can't get a List(Of <my class>) from a Dictionary in .NET?

  I have a Dictionary with key of type UInteger and the value is List(Of Session) where the (Public) class Session contains a couple of variables and a constructor (Public Sub New(...)). Some of the variables in my Session class is: Private count As Integer Private StartDate As Date Private Values As List(Of Integer) and a couple of methods like: Friend Sub Counter(ByVal c as Integer) count += c End Sub There is no problem to add values to the Dictionary: Dim Sessions As New List(Of Session) Dim dict As New Dictionary(Of Integer, Sessions) then some code to fill up a couple of Session objects in Sessions (not shown here) and then: dict.Add(17, Sessions) 'No problem Sessions.Clear() Sessions = dict(17) 'This doesn't return anything! The Sessions object is empty even if the code doesn't returned any error. Is my class Session to compex to be stored in a Dictionary?

  According to this manual: http://us2.php.net/setcookie I have to set the cookie before anything else. The variables comes from a mysql_query and I have to do the query first. But then, if I do, I will get an error message: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by ... The error points to the line where I set the cookie above. What should I do?a
