  I have a virtual machine(Ubuntu 12.04, MySQL 5.5) running under VMware and is dedicated to host a mysql server. I connect to this server on internal IP. I'm trying to find out why I get mysql server has gone error. One my windows machines apache it stops because of this issue. • What does an ACPI BIOS configure during boot?

  When a PC boots with an ACPI BIOS, what does it exactly do? I understand that the point of ACPI is to allow the OS to control hardware resources and power management but before the OS is loaded does ACPI configure just the devices needed to boot and then let the OS configure the rest? If the OS wants to re-asign hardware resources does it store this information in the ACPI tables so that the next time the system is booted it assigns them how the OS wants? The ACPI driver asks the PCI bus driver (Pci.sys) to enumerate devices on it's bus once the OS is loaded, how are these devices configured whilst the PC is booting when it doesn't have other bus drivers? Any help with any of the above questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  I regularly write and update technical documentation which will be used to set up a new virtual machine, or to have a lookup for system dependencies in networks with around 20-50 (server-side) computers. At the moment I use OpenOffice Writer with text tables, and create one document per intranet domain. To improve this documentation, I would like to collect some examples to identify areas where my documents can be improved, regarding general structure and content, to make it easy to read and use not only for me but also for technical staff, helpdesk etc. Are there simple text templates (for example for OpenOffice Writer) or tools (maybe database-driven) for structured documentation of a computer configuration? Such a template / tool should provide required and optional configuration sections, like 'operating system', 'installed services', 'mapped network drives', 'scheduled tasks', 'remote servers', 'logon user account', 'firewall settings', 'hard disk size' ... It is not so much low-level hardware docs but more infrastructure / integration information in these documents (no BIOS settings, MAC addresses).

• Update Billing Email Addresses in Sage MAS90

  I have been tasked with trying to find a method of updating about 500 customer email addresses in MAS90. I recently discovered that they had the ability to email invoices to their customers and because I opened my big mouth, they now want me to find a way to add about 500 emails into the system so they do not have to perform the task manually. The office does have an SQL server which supports ASP sites which contains a list of all of the current email addresses. My plan was to use Microsoft Access 2007 with the MAS90 ODBC connector to attempt this update. My questions are: Is this the right way to go or is there a better method of obtaining these results? Does anyone happen to know which tables I should be looking at? Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  Background: Home PC is Windows XP and using Cisco VPN client; home internet connection is fast (20MB) office VPN router is Cisco RV110W; work internet connection is slow (1.5MB) With VPN connected, my home PC internet surfing is very slow. I looked this up in Google and found talk about splitting, tunneling, routing tables, etc., but I'm not sure what/how to do it. Basically, I would like a persistent VPN connection with the office resources, and at the same time, utilize my home high speed internet connection to access the internet. • Granting rights on postgresql database to another user

  I'm trying to set up a system with a PostgreSQL database per user, with a PHP-FPM resource pool for an associated account. I need to grant all privileges on the database to the other user, but it seems that it's only possible to do this for tables. I've tried grant all privileges on database username to username_shadow but this gives only limited privileges. I've upgraded to PGSQL 9.2, which has the ability to grant privileges on schema, but I can't get a useful result. How do I simply make another user have all the privileges of the first on the same database?

• Storage drives is causting system crash

  I'm running Centos 5.4 with 750GB(ntfs) and 2TB drives for storage. Originally I installed the 750, everything seemed fine and then I installed the 2TB drive with NTFS already partitioned. I noticed when I would copy a lot of videos it would crash (no mouse or response from server) about 20min into it. After doing some troubleshooting I noticed the 750 would also crash when doing the same task so I decided that NTFS may be the problem. I unmounted the 2TB drive and tried to partition and format it using ext2 but when using parted it would crash at this point "writing inode tables". Looking at the dmesg logs I believe this is the error "mtrr: type mismatch for e0000000,10000000 old: write-back new: write-combining". Any idea as to what could be causing this?

Modifications of tables of really lot of data... What can I expect to find in the test of Excel?   I have an Access 2003 database. When I click on a pivot table, I get this message MS Access There isn't enough memory to complete the Automation object operation on the worksheet object. There is a lot of discussion concerning this message. That's why I am also interested in converting the database to 2010 format if that is possible. Are there instructions -- I cannot currently find them and would very much appreciate a link -- on dealing with this problem in a nice stepwise fashion?

  I have a server running CentOS with 50 IP addresses on it. I was looking to use it as a proxy server (not just HTTP), but can't find any examples on how to set up the IP Tables. I want to proxy into IP-X and have my request look like its coming from IP-X. I currently do this on squid, but we need to proxy more than just HTTP traffic.   Is it possible in Excel to have a font that automatically generates a 'Data Matrix'-Code from a text string. (As it is possible for usual Barcodes) Would I perhaps have to use a Add-In, because the font isn't "linear" or "one-dimensional" as barcodes are? EDIT: I found a solution (using a pretty expensive software): I simply used "NiceLabel", which is capable of using XLS-Tables as databases. Then I generated the Codes (Could be Barcodes, QR-Codes, Data Matrix Codes) from the cells in Excel. This solution doesn't automatically generate a 2D-Code into an Excel-Cell but fits for my personal needs.

  How are cached Active Directory domain credentials stored on a Windows client? Are they stored in the local SAM database, thus making them susceptible to the same rainbow table attacks that local user accounts are susceptible to, or are they stored differently? Note, that I do realize that they are salted and hashed, so as not to be stored in plain-text, but are they hashed in the same way as local accounts and are they stored in the same location? I realize that at a minimum they're be susceptible to a brute force attack, but that's a much better situation than being vulnerable to rainbow tables in the event of a stolen machine.

  Hello, I have a Bacula script that does an automatic backup of a Postgres Database. The script makes two backups using (pg_dump) of the data base : The schema only and the data only. /usr/bin/pg_dump --format=c -s $dbname --file=$DUMPDIR/$dbname.schema.dump /usr/bin/pg_dump --format=c -a $dbname --file=$DUMPDIR/$dbname.data.dump The problem is that I can't figure out how to restore it with pg_restore. Do I need to create the database and the users before then restore the schema and finally the data. I did the following : pg_restore --format=c -s -C -d template1 xxx.schema.dump pg_restore --format=c -a -d xxx xxx.data.dump This first restore creates the database with emtpy tables but the second gives many error like this one : pg_restore: [archiver (db)] COPY failed: ERROR: insert or update on table "Table1" violates foreign key constraint "fkf6977a478dd41734" DETAIL: Key (contentid)=(1474566) is not present in table "Table23". Any ideas?

• phpMyAdmin logs out when selecting database

  I'm having an issue with pma whereby after logging in (as root or the database owner), and trying to switch to a certain database, I am automatically logged out. I cannot do any actions on the database and in the page that loads immediately before I'm logged out I note that I can't see any tables in the database. The database is accessible by the cli mysql program and all records are still present. To clarify: Literally login works fine, I can browse ALL databases except the one of my projects. Trying to use that database causes the phpMyAdmin session to end. Thanks!

  I have a word document containing images and tables. These have captions which are numbered, like "Image 1-Example of something". Later on I decided to rearrange some of chapters of my document. However numbering of objects remained the same, so the first image is image 8, the second is image 3, etc. I want to force Word to recompute image numbering so first image in document would be image 1, the second - image 2, etc. Is that possible? Will references (added through cross reference feature) to those objects be updated?

• When adding second processor to SQL Server, will it automatically balance the load?

  We have a SQL Server 2008 R2 (10.5) on a dedicated box with a single 2.4Ghz processor, which regularly runs at 70-80% CPU. We are going to be adding a significant number of users to the application and therefore want to add a second processor to the box (scale up). Will SQL Server automatically use the second processor to balance threads, or is there additional configuration that will need to be done? In other words, will adding the second processor drop my CPU usage to 35-40% per CPU, automatically balancing the load? Based on what I read here, it seems that it will: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181007.aspx However, I've read elsewhere that CPU performance gains can be made by assigning database tables to different filegroups, but I'm not sure we want to get that complicated at this point.

  Hello. I need to sync two PostgreSQL databases (some tables from development db to production db) sometimes. So I came up with this script: [...] pg_dump -a -F tar -t table1 -t table2 -U user1 dbname1 | \ pg_restore -a -U user2 -d dbname2 [...] The problem is that this works just for newly added rows. When I edit non-PK column I get constraint error and row isn't updated. For each dumped row I need to check if it exists in destination database (by PK) and if so delete it before INSERT/COPY.   I'm writing reST in vim, which handles line breaks for me (after 80 chars). However, since I frequently go back and edit the text before, lines get ugly again. For example, in tables, it's sometimes annoying to re-format a complete table just because you need a line break in some place. So I wish I had a program that reads my ugly-but-correct reStructuredText and outputs it nicely formatted and wrapped. I found that pandoc in.rst -w rst mostly works, but it has some drawbacks. For example :author: John Doe becomes author John Doe and title formatting is changed as well. Sadly, there seems to be no rst2rst or something similar. Does anyone have some advice?

• MSSQL 2008 is claiming the firewall is blocking ports even from local machine

  I was just hoping to step through a couple queries to see how the temp tables are interacting and I'm getting this message. The windows firewall on this machine is currently blocking remote debugging. Remote debugging requires that the debugging be allowed to receive information from the network.Remote debugging also requires DCOM (TCP port 135) and IPSEC (UDP 4500/UDP500) be unblocked Even when I walked over to the actual machine and tried running the debugger, I'm still getting the same message. Am I missing something or does the debugger try to run remotely even from the local machine? Since this was meant to be just a quick check, I don't need instructions on how to open up the firewall, just hoping there is a way to run the debugger locally instead.

  We currently have memcached running on CentOS. None of our PHP applications can connect, have tried multiple applications trying to establish access. The most informative PHP error we get is: "Memcache::get() [function.Memcache-get]: Server 127.0.0.1 (tcp 11211) failed with: Permission denied (13) in /var/www/.." memcached 1.4.5 PECL 2.25 We can telnet and it works. IP tables is full access from lo to lo. We've tried this on two different servers with both compiled version and the rpm in CentOS 5.5 and get the same result. Is there anything fairly obvious that we are missing?
