  • Trouble with SVN and Filename 'changes'.

    I am programming in Visual Studio 2010, using TortiseSVN and VisualSVN as my client to connect to SVN repositories. I am having a bit of a frequent problem though with the whole SVN thing in general. One thing that keeps cropping up is that if I make changes to files - namely filenames, or move them to new folders, etc, I end up getting all kinds of conflicts with the repository and it just causes all sorts of strange errors. I understand the importance of version control and check-in/check-out access like this, but what do most of you do to deal with this kind of thing? I mean, I've tried doing the whole 'Remove from Subversion', change my file, then 'Add to Subversion' thing, and it just doesn't seem to do the job very well. This is especially frustrating when working on web projects where filenames can change very frequently as a project evolves and becomes multifaceted. Are there any standard ways to deal with this kind of thing, or is it just one of the flaws of SVN in general?

  • git - how do we verify commit messages for a push?

    Coming from CVS, we have a policy that commit messages should be tagged with a bug number (simple suffix "... [9999]"). A CVS script checks this during commits and rejects the commit if the message does not conform. The git hook commit-msg does this on the developer side but we find it helpful to have automated systems check and remind us of this. During a git push, commit-msg isn't run. Is there another hook during push that could check commit messages? How do we verify commit messages during a git push?

  • Trying to send text message using sp_send_dbmail truncates url in body

    I'm using send_dbmail to send a text message to customers. This is the following sql: exec msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail @recipients='[email protected]', @body='check out this url https://www.someurl.com/directory/blah.aspx', @subject='I am the subject!' The body gets truncated to "check out this url https://www.someurl.com/directory/blah.as" (the "px" is removed from the end of the url). I've ruled out message length as I have tried sending just "www.google.com/test.aspx" and the "px" is removed as well. Another strange thing, when I try forwarding the text message to myself and add the "px" back on myself, it works. It also works if I send a email from outlook with the same body. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Javascript form validation only works in firefox

    Hello, I am relatively new to Javascript so I'm hoping this is a simple mistake. I building a generic form validation function that is called on the form's onSubmit. The function loops through all the form's child elements, looks for certain classes, and analyzes the contents of the appropriate fields. If it finds something missing or erroneous, it displays the appropriate error message div and returns false, thus preventing the form from being submitted to the php page. It works well in firefox 3.6.3, but in every other browser I've tested (Safari 4.0.4, Chrome 4.1, IE8) it seems to ignore the onSubmit and jump straight to the php processing page.   • Do preconditions ALWAYS have to be checked?

    These days I'm used to checking every single precondition for every function since I got the habit from an OS programming course back at uni. On the other hand, at the software engineering course we were taught that a common precondition should only be checked once, so for example, if a function is delegating to another function, the first function should check them but checking them again in the second one is redundant. I do see the redundancy point, but I certainly feel it's safer to always check them, plus you don't have to keep track of where they were checked previously. What's the best practice here?

The JavaScript code which can be found below is supposed to check if the browser supports the required attribute and if it doesn't then it will validate the form and check for any empty spaces.   • How do you make the script wait for the status of an Ajax get request before continuing?

    Basically what I'm doing is checking for the existence of an object, if it's not found, the script will try to load the source file using getScript. I only want to check this once though then return true or false to the function that calls fetch() fetch:function(obj){ ... isReady = false; $.getScript(obj.srcFile,function(){ isReady=true; warn("was able to load object "+key); }); return isReady; } but return kicks in before the script loads =/ later the script is loaded but the function returned false. This is the beauty of asynchronous I suppose... What's the best way to handle this... Maybe I could check again at some other point if the object exists? Or maybe there's a better way to do this where I dont have to potentially lock the browser?

    Hello! I am creating a small yatzy game and i have run into some regex problems. I need to verify certain criteria to see if they are met. The fields one to six is very straight forward the problem comes after that. Like trying to create a regex that matches the ladder. The Straight should contain one of the following characters 1-5. It must contain one of each to pass but i can't figure out how to check for it. I was thinking /1{1}2{1}3{1}4{1}5{1}/g; but that only matches if they come in order. How can i check if they don't come in the correct order?

    Hi, As part of one our system's we enable a user in the backoffice to add a block of 301 redirects should they need to. This is just a textarea which then populates a specific area of a .htaccess file. As much as this may seem insecure it has only previously used internally by people who know what they are doing but for various reasons they cannot access the specific file. We need now to allow more access to this function, not for the general public, but for people that probably have far less knowledge of regexp etc and syntax in htaccess files. Obviously the major concern here is the user enters some bad syntax and makes their entire site, including the backoffice where they could fix the issue, totally inaccessible without manual intervention. What approaches can i take to make sure that they do not break their site? A htaccess syntax check? copy the file elsewhere and check it doesnt generate a 500 error (with cURL or similar)?. Would welcome any ideas. Thanks.

Right now there are three of us working on a "Dev" version of the project that all have our Eclipse linked to it with just an external folder, and thus no version control. What is the right way, and what is the best way, to version control this (not necessarily the same I dont think) We have a SVN set up but just need to find a good way to check in and check out that lets us test on the dev server.     I've been trying to learn Action Script 3 the past few weeks, making tiny interactive games to learn the basics. I stumble upon a problem every now and then but most of the times google helps me out. But this problem has got me stuck so please help: The main stage contains two objects(movieclips), the player and a wall. The player has got his own code so when I drag in the player object I don't have to write any code into the main stage to be able to move the player. This all worked pretty well and I now wanted to add the wall so the player actually has something to bounce into. Now here is the problem, I want to check if the player touches the wall, I've done this before but that was when I used the main stage as my coding playground instead of putting the code in movieclips. How can I check if the player hits the wall within the movement code of the player object?

You can check that executing php -i | grep safe_mode from the command line i've checked the first two settings. i don't know whether php-cli is enabled or not..i'm using php5..how do i enable it, without messing with other php packages?

    Hello, everyone! I am implementing a text-based version of Scrabble for a college project. I have a vector containing around 400K strings (my dictionary), and, at some point in every turn, I'm going to have to check if any word in the dictionary can be formed with the pieces in the player's hand. My only solution to this is iterating through the string, one by one, and using a sub-routine I have to check if the string in question can be formed from the player's pieces. I'll implement a quickfail checking if the user has any vowels, but it'll still be woefully inefficient. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time!

    Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle a dropdown list where one of the options "other" shows a hidden text field (via jQuery), where the user can then enter text. Should both the dropdown and the input field be given the same "name" attribute, then server side code runs a check on the values of each in order to know what one is the active value - e.g if the value of the select box is "other", then check the value of the text input field - if this isn't the default value ("enter text"), then it's ok to use this value and save it to the database. Is this a messy approach to this problem?

  • Is it possible to use the values method for a HashMap if the values are ArrayLists?

    I'm stuck trying to get something to work in an assignment. I have a HashMap<Integer, ArrayList<Object>> called sharedLocks and I want to check whether a certain value can be found in any ArrayList in the HashMap. The following code obviously wouldn't work because Object[] can't be cast to ArrayList[], but it is a demonstration of the general functionality that I want. ArrayList[] values = (ArrayList[]) sharedLocks.values().toArray(); boolean valueExists = false; for (int i = 0; i < values.length; i++) { if (values[i].contains(accessedObject)) { valueExists = true; } } Is there a way for me to check every ArrayList in the HashMap for a certain value?
