• Android font out of view on small screen

  Hi Everyone I have several text views that take up the majority of the screen in landscape view in a relativelayout and the font size i have set is quite big (150dp). The text views are all timers and the furthest to the right is the "seconds" textview. My problem is that when testing on a phone with a small screen res the seconds are way outside the limit of the screen and can't be seen. They are in perfect place on normal to large screen resolutions just not on a small screen. Is there any way i can force the "seconds" text view to stay on screen, without adjusting the font size or margins between each text view? Even if it means looking cramped on a small screen i can live with that. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks This is the corresponding code:

• iOS UITableViewCell UIImageView setting on different conditions

  I have an app that has a UITableView and in my Cells I have UIImageViews and UILabels that change images/textColors for a day theme and a night theme (trying to be automatically set). My issue is that I set the images and colors when the table is populated with cellForRowAtIndexPath and its during the day "theme", then if I reopen the app hours later in the night "theme" and the app is still in the "background" and not needing to be reloaded (ie viewDidLoad doesn't fire), the day "theme" shows until I scroll the UITableView and then the night "theme" shows when new cells are brought into view by scrolling. How should I set the objects in my cells when changing around time of the day? I was thinking to use an NSTimer, but I'm not sure how to update the objects in my cells. I was also thinking about using the appropriate methods in the AppDelagate to set things in motion, but is there a way to force reloading the TableView? Any suggestions?

  If I do the following in Objective-C: NSString *result = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%1.1f", -0.01]; It will give result @"-0.0" Does anybody know how I can force a result @"0.0" (without the "-") in this case? EDIT: I tried using NSNumberFormatter, but it has the same issue. • Using my ISerializable implementation instead of DataContractSerializer

  My WCF client and server exchange objects whose types are defined on a class library shared by both, the server and the client. These objects implement custom serialization via ISerializable. However, my custom serialization is not being used. DataContractSerializer is being used, instead. How do I force my custom serialization to be used? The reason why I need to use my own serialization is because I do trasfer some big object graphs and my serialization algorithm does a good job in compressing/speeding up things.

• How to generate random strings that match a given regexp?

  Duplicate: Random string that matches a regexp No, it isn't. I'm looking for an easy and universal method, one that I could actually implement. That's far more difficult than randomly generating passwords. I want to create an application that takes a regular expression, and shows 10 randomly generated strings that match that expression. It's supposed to help people better understand their regexps, and to decide i.e. if they're secure enough for validation purposes. Does anyone know of an easy way to do that? One obvious solution would be to write (or steal) a regexp parser, but that seems really over my head. I repeat, I'm looking for an easy and universal way to do that. Edit: Brute force approach is out of the question. Assuming the random strings would just be [a-z0-9]{10} and 1 million iterations per second, it would take 65 years to iterate trough the space of all 10-char strings.

• MyLocationOverlay dissappears, is not there onResume.

  I have a mapView to which I add a MyLocationOverlay. It displays fine when the app starts from scratch (goes through onCreate). If I exit the app (back button) and then start it again (onResume), the overlay is gone. I have tried to fix this for 10+ hours. All sorts of messing with re-adding the overlay. Resetting the overlays. Changing the maps location so it's forced to redraw. Trying to manually invalidate or force a redraw of the overlay. NOTHING has worked. From the way the code looks, the Overlay object exists and everything is working fine - but it's just not on the map. Is anybody else having this problem? (Droid Incredible, 2.2)

  It it possible to enable validation in an ASP.NET GridView purely declaratively? What I've tried: A GridView bound to an ObjectDataSource with SelectMethod and UpdateMethod defined The GridView contains some ReadOnly BoundField columns and a TemplateField whose EditTemplate contains a TextBox and a RegularExpressionValidator that only allows numeric input in the TextBox. The GridView also contains a CommandField with ShowEditButton=true and CausesValidation=true. If I click on Edit, enter an invalid value, then click on Save, there is a PostBack, and an exception is thrown in the server (Input string was not in a correct format). • Using PHP's $_COOKIE to create cookie.txt for cURL

  Hi, I'm running Drupal and Mediawiki on my server under the same domain. They are connected to each other with extensions/modules. Meaning if I log in to Mediawiki, it automatically logs into Drupal also. Mediawiki has some extensions that filter the information shown on the page. What I want to do is to show that filtered information from Mediawiki on my Drupal page. I'm trying to fetch the data with PHP cURL, but I'm not able to force it to use the login information. How can I convert PHP's $_COOKIE into cURL cookie.txt format? I suppose after that I'm able to fetch the data from Mediawiki with the right permissions. • App crashes on back button / Activities & Intents

  I have an android application which starts a new activity Intent startAuthorization = new Intent(AndroidActivity, AuthorizeUser.class); startActivityForResult(startAuthorization,4711); When that new activity is done (a ok button is clicked) I call setResult(RESULT_OK, returnResult); finish(); Which works fine. In case the user doesn't click the okay button but uses the return button of the phone (this arrow pointing around to the left) the application has a force close. I have set a breakpoint on the first line of my method onActivityResult but the debugger never stops there. I have no idea where the issue comes up - how can I find out? Is there a method I have to overwrite to handle this back button?

• Can Django flush its database(s) between every unit test

  Django (1.2 beta) will reset the database(s) between every test that runs, meaning each test runs on an empty DB. However, the database(s) are not flushed. One of the effects of flushing the database is the auto_increment counters are reset. Consider a test which pulls data out of the database by primary key: class ChangeLogTest(django.test.TestCase): def test_one(self): do_something_which_creates_two_log_entries() log = LogEntry.objects.get(id=1) assert_log_entry_correct(log) log = LogEntry.objects.get(id=2) assert_log_entry_correct(log) This will pass because only two log entries were ever created. However, if another test is added to ChangeLogTest and it happens to run before test_one, the primary keys of the log entries are no longer 1 and 2, they might be 2 and 3. Now test_one fails. This is actually a two part question: Is it possible to force ./manage.py test to flush the database between each test case? Since Django doesn't flush the DB between each test by default, maybe there is a good reason. Does anyone know?

• How to dynamically add a Javascript function (and invoke)

  Based on a click event on the page, via ajax I fetch a block of html and script, I am able to take the script element and append it to the head element, however WebKit based browsers are not treating it as script (ie. I cannot invoke a function declared in the appended script). Using the Chrome Developer Tools I can see that my script node is indeed there, but it shows up differently then a script block that is not added dynamically, a non-dynamic script has a text child element and I cannot figure out a way to duplicate this for the dynamic script. Any ideas or better ways to be doing this? The driving force is there is potentially a lot of html and script that would never be needed unless a user clicks on a particular tab, in which case the relevant content (and script) would be loaded.   In C#, Say you have an array of strings, which contain only characters '0' and '1': string[] input = { "0101", "101", "11", "010101011" }; And you'd like to build a function: public void IdentifySubstrings(string[] input) { ... } That will produce the following: "0101 is a substring of 010101011" "101 is a substring of 0101" "101 is a substring of 010101011" "11 is a substring of 010101011" And you are NOT able to use built-in string functionality (such as String.Substring). How would one efficiently solve this problem? Of course you could plow through it via brute force, but it just feels like there ought to be a way to accomplish it with a tree (since the only values are 0's and 1's, it feels like a binary tree ought to fit somehow). I've read a little bit about things like suffix trees, but I'm uncertain if that's the right path to be going down. Any efficient solutions you can think of?

• Can you make VB.NET compilation as strict as C#?

  In VB.NET, it is entirely possible to pass an integer as a string parameter to a method without calling .ToString() - it's even possible to call .ToString without the ()'s. The code will run without a problem, VB will interpret the integer as a string without having been told to. In C#, these would cause compilation errors - you are required to call .ToString() and to call it correctly in that situation before it will compile. Is there a way to make the VB compilation process check for the same things as the C# compilation process? Would it be best practice in a mixed team to force this check?

I create a TabActivity and it has three Activity(tab1,tab2,tab3).I wanna realize that if I press a button in tab1,then TextView in tab2 can be changed. I've tried Intent and Bundle , but that didn't work and force close . Maybe because of the TabActivity I think . 2. If I have a layout and there are many TextView on it. But some are out of the screen. How can I scroll the screen? 3. Is it possible that TextView in Tablelayout can be clicked ? I've sreached there problems on Google for there days but still bother me . Really need help, Thanks :)

• When is it a good idea to use the CSS display property?

  I think I first learned of this property when I thought "I should put this list of items in a ul, but I want it to be laid out horizontally. I wonder if I can do that with CSS?" When I googled this, I found a couple of sites suggesting that I create a CSS rule that would change the value of the display property of the li elements to inline. I've also seen the suggestion that a div (or other block element) be given display: table-cell in order to force the vertical align property to work. These techniques seem kind of hacky. Does that make sense? This might not be a good analogy, but it seems like trying to ride a car as if it were a motorcycle. Yeah, I could replace the steering wheel with handle bars, wear a helmet, and remove all the passenger seating, but how the heck is a car going to drive on two wheels??

• LoadViewState not fired on my user control

  I have a user control nested in a repeater. Inside my user control I have another repeater and in that I have a panel. I am trying to override the LoadViewState event of my user control and dynamically add controls to the panel. I want to do it in the LoadViewState so that the dynamic controls get added before the viewstate gets loaded, so they retain their values after post backs. For some reason the LoadViewState event on the user control (ascx) is not firing. Is there some way to force it to fire, or is there another method I could use? I have ruled out the user controls repeater databind event, because I need it to work even if data binding isn't happening and I can't do it on the repeaters item created event either because the child panel and inner html doesn't exist yet.

  It was my first time to use Java EE and I am having an error everytime I run my html file. This is the error I am seeing: In-place deployment at C:\Documents and Settings\scybermonde\My Documents\NetBeansProjects\Exercises\build\web deploy?path=C:\Documents and Settings\scybermonde\My Documents\NetBeansProjects\Exercises\build\web&name=Exercises&force=true failed on GlassFish Server 3 C:\Documents and Settings\scybermonde\My Documents\NetBeansProjects\Exercises\nbproject\build-impl.xml:683: The module has not been deployed. BUILD FAILED (total time: 1 second) What was wrong if I am receiving an error like this? I also tried to deployed it referring to what it said in the later part "The module has not been deployed" but still the same error appears... please help... thanks in advance :)

  Recently, I was going around looking for ideas on what I can build using C this summer and I came across this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1257376/interesting-project-to-learn-c Implement a programming language. This doesn't have to be terribly hard - I did the language that must not be named - but it will force you to learn a lot of the important parts of C. If you don't want to write a lexer and/or parser yourself, you can use lex/flex and yacc/bison, but if you plan on that you might want to start with a somewhat smaller project. I was kinda intrigued about the implementing a programming language answer and I'm wondering how do I go about starting this? I've gone through the whole K&R book and I've done some of the exercises as well. I also have a bit of experience in C++ and Java if that matters. Any tips? Thanks!

  Actually I have some download link on my website something like "http://www.example.com/somesong.mp3". Now when user click on this link they get somesong.mp3 but I want to change it before they download. I found many scripts that made it possible but didn't get exact right script. Because I want that when the user clicks on download link the file downloading should be started just after the click with the new file name as I want to use. But in all the scripts which I downloaded, first the php processing starts for a few minute (I think it depends on the file size) and then rename it. Is there a way to direct force the file in header with new file name. Thanks.

  I am running MAMP locally on my laptop, and I like to test as much as I can locally. Unfortunately, since I work on e-commerce stuff (PHP), I normally force ssl in most of the checkout forms and it just fails on my laptop. Is there any easy configuration that I might be missing to allow "https" to run under MAMP? Please note, I know that I could configure Apache by hand, re-compile PHP, etc. but I'm just wondering if there's an easier way for a lazy programmer. Thanks

• Forcing an app to run single core only?

  I have this strange issue with some third party DLL's. The third party provider references some open source DLL's that have a memory exception whenever I try to use a certain method. This issue does not appear when the app is run on a single core machine, but obviously we cannot assume a user will have that. Is there a way to force an app, or even better yet a referenced DLL to run on a single core? Any other way to possibly fix this? Getting the third party to rebuild the OS dll's is apparently out of the question (its a bit of a sore spot with me currently :) ) so I have to handle it myself or just forget about providing this functionality.

  I am having a really annoying bug, which yet I don't know how to trace it. I have an activity with 3 tabs, each populated by adapters build by asynctasks. They are displaying well, navigation is fine. I've extended TabActivity. But whenever I hit the Back/Menu/Search button it halts, then after a while the OS displays me this warning: Sorry Activity Contacts (in application MyApp) is not responding. Force close or Wait. How can I trace this problem on the phone?

• imageview draw issue with asynctask

  Have the following asynctask that i'm using to download some images. Works fine except for the very first image, which doesn't always appears unless I do something like move to the next image and then back again. public class DownloadImageTask extends AsyncTask { static ImageView _imageView=null; public DownloadImageTask(ImageView ctl){ _imageView=ctl; } protected void onPostExecute(Bitmap result) { _imageView.setImageBitmap(result); } ... } I thought this might be an issue with updating the UI on a background thread, so I reworked this using an abstract class that invokes a method on the UI thread that calls .setImageBitmap() but I still get the same behaviour - works fine for all images except the first, unless I move to the next image and back again. Is there a way to force a redraw on the imageview after i set the image?
