• System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability.Tier returns not the render mode

  I use System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability.Tier to show the current render mode within a diagnostics panel of my app. If I force the app (3.5sp1) to change the render-mode through the following code HwndSource hwndSource = PresentationSource.FromVisual(visual) as System.Windows.Interop.HwndSource; HwndTarget hwndTarget = hwndSource.CompositionTarget; hwndTarget.RenderMode = renderMode; neither System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability.TierChanged fires, nor has the System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability.Tier property changed. However the changes are applied to the app. If I look with Perforator, the render mode has been changed to the desired mode. Although I’ve found at many locations that System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability.Tier can be used to detect the current render state (also msdn, see this), it seems, System.Windows.Media.RenderCapability only gives information about the capabilities and not about the current mode. That makes also sense if I look at the name of the class. Is there another source to know how an actual wpf-content is rendered or am I doing something wrong?

• Java - 'continue' loop iteration after certain timeout period

  Is there a way to exit ('continue;') a loop iteration after a certain timeout period? I have a loop that will run gathering data from the web and then use this data to make a calculation. The data become obsolete after about 1 to 2 seconds so if the loop iteration takes longer than 1 second then i want it to 'continue' to the next iteration. Sometimes gathering the data can take time but sometimes the calculation can take longer than 1 second so a HTTP timeout won't work for what i need. Also, while doing the calculation the thread i am using is blocked so i cannot check System.currentTimeMillis(); Is there a way to use another Thread to check the time and force the original for loop to continue.

  What algorithms (brute force or not) would I use to put in as many cars (assume all cars are the same size) in a parking lot so that there is at least one exit (from the container) and a car cannot be blocked. Or can someone show me an example of this problem solved programmatically. The parking lot varies in shape would be nice but if you want to assume its some invariant shape that is fine. Another Edit: Assume that driving distance in the parking lot is not a factor (although it would be totally awesome if it was weighted factor to number of cars in lot). Another Edit: Assume 2 Dimensional (no cranes or driving over cars). Another Edit: You cannot move cars around once they are parked (its not a valet parking lot). I hope the question is specific enough now.

  I have a simple login form with 2 input fields: "username" and "password". "username" field is focused by default. The problem is that when user clicks outside "username" or "password" fields, the focus is gone (it is neither on "username" nor on "password" fields"). How can I force the focus to be on these 2 fields only ? In my case, this is a really annoying behavior, so I really want to do this :) Can I do something like: $("*").focus(function() { if (!$(this).hasClass("my_inputs_class")) { // How to stop the focusing process here ? } }); ?

• Response.Redirect causes System.Threading.ThreadAbortException

  When I use Response.Redirect(...) to redirect my form to a new page I get the error: A first chance exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadAbortException' occurred in mscorlib.dll An exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadAbortException' occurred in mscorlib.dll but was not handled in user code My understanding of this is that the error is being caused by the webserver aborting the remainder of the page the response.redirect was called on. I know I can add a second parameter to Response.Redirect that is called endResponse. If I set endResponse to True I still get the error but if I set it to False then I do not. I am pretty sure though that that means the webserver is running the rest of the page I redirected away from. Which would seem to be inefficient to say the least. Is there a better way to do this? Something other than Response.Redirect or is there a way to force the old page to stop loading where I will not get a ThreadAbortException?

How do I do this? I know that I cannot have virtual static methods. Edit: The question is not about the type_id, but in general about a static method that should be overriden.   Can I somehow force a derived class to always call the overridden methods base? public class BaseClass { public virtual void Update() { if(condition) { throw new Exception("..."); // Prevent derived method to be called } } } And then in a derived class : public override void Update() { base.Update(); // Forced call // Do any work } I've searched and found a suggestion to use a non-virtual Update() but also a protected virtual UpdateEx().   hi, is there any way, to restrict hibernate not to create connection of its own(what we define in hibernate.properties or hibernate.cfg.xml), instead i can create and pass the connection to hibernate for further processing. The problem is that i need to set the ApplicationContext on the connection given that the i am using oracle connection. I don't know why since my model association are well defined and the event table has the foreign keys for the user table. • How do you configure firefox to open an application without prompting the user?

  I've got a serverside app that send down a custom mime-type file "application/x-optibase". Firefox prompt user user to save or open the file and if the user clicks open the correct application launches so I believe I have mimeType.rdf configured correctly I've gone into about:config and set browser.helperApps.neverAsk.openFile to application/x-optibase and browser.helpApps.alwaysAsk.force to false According to the minimal documentation out there this should enable the application to automatically open when the user downloads the file but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks.

  Is there any method that is called or event that is dispatched right before an Element is cleaned up by the JavaScript garbage collector? And a little background: I am writing the Perl module XUL::Gui which serves as a bridge between Perl and Firefox, and I am currently working on plugging a few memory leaks related to DOM Elements sticking around forever, even after they are gone and no more references remain on the Perl side. So I am looking for ways to either figure out when JavaScript Elements will be destroyed, or a way to force JavaScript to cleanup an object.

• whats the point of using template?

  I am under the impression that if I set it as a template in Dreamweaver, any changes made should be saved to a new filename. I've copied the "template" that I made and sometimes I forget to save it as a different file name and it would overwrite previous web content. I just don't get the point of "save as template" if it works just like a document... it doesn't force me to save as a different filename. Common sense in me thinks that the software should evaluate like this, "if this is a template, always save as a different filename when it's modified so nothing is changed to the template, but rather a new file is created with the new content following that template." Am I missing something? Am I always doomed to using Save As...?

  PROBLEM HISTORY: Now I use Windows Media Player SDK 9 to play AVI files in my desktop application. It works well on Windows XP but when I try to run it on Windows 7 I caught an error - I can not remove AVI file immediately after playback. The problem is that there are opened file handles exist. On Windows XP I have 2 opened file handles during the playing file and they are closed after closing of playback window but on Windows 7 I have already 4 opened handles during the playing file and 2 of them remain after the closing of playback window. They are become free only after closing the application. QUESTION: How can I solve this problem? How to remove the file which has opened handles? May be exists something like "force deletion"? • Stop node containing subnodes and text in schema

  If I have some xml like this: <mynode> <mysubnode> <mysubsubnode>hello world</mysubsubnode> some more text </mysubnode> </mynode> As you can see, mysubnode contains both a subnode and some text data. What I want to know is, is it possible to prevent this happening in a schema? I don't want nodes to contain subnodes and text, just subnodes or text. Is there an option in my xsd I can specify to force this? My program to that uses this xml is written in .NET, so I'll tag it as well incase there's anything of use in .net that I can utilise for this, though I'd much rather that the issue was fixed in the schema itself. • Using svn remove - preserve file on disk instead of having it deleted?

  Hi, I am creating an eclipse project, which generates a lot of files I don't want to keep under version control. For example, it creates a project folder like: project/ bin/ horse.class cow.class src/ horse.java cow.java so what I do is add the project folder to svn, like: svn add project this puts everything under control, even the bin and .class files. All of those files will have the little 'a' next to them. How can I simply remove the 'add' status from those files? If I try: svn remove bin/horse.class I have to use the --force option and it deletes the file from disk. Is there a way to simply remove it from source but not delete the file from disk? Thanks

• Create a modifiable string literal in C++

  Is it possible to create a modifiable string literal in C++? For example: char* foo[] = { "foo", "foo" }; char* afoo = foo[0]; afoo[2] = 'g'; // access violation This produces an access violation because the "foo"s are allocated in read only memory (.rdata section I believe). Is there any way to force the "foo"s into writable memory (.data section)? Even via a pragma would be acceptable! (Visual Studio compiler) I know I can do strdup and a number of other things to get around the problem, but I want to know specifically if I can do as I have asked. :)

  I am writing a graphical git frontend for Linux and Windows (MSEgit) based on MSEide+MSEgui. MSEgit has an internal console window which communicates with git by pipes. On Linux it uses a PTY so SSH asks for key unlocking passwords on the PTY. On Windows I wrote a small password entry application and set the SSH_ASKPASS environment variable accordingly. SSH calls the password application if git is started with CreateProcess() dwCreationFlags DETACHED_PROCESS set but the password entry window will not be focused, its taskbar icon flashes instead. SSH does not run the password application if FreeConsole() is called to be sure that there is no attached console to MSEgit and git is started without DETACHED_PROCESS but CREATE_NO_WINDOW instead. I assume a Windows equivalent of POSIX setsid() should be called. How can I force SSH to use SSH_ASKPASS without the DETACHED_PROCESS flag? If this is not possible, how can I ensure that the password entry window is focused?

  I have a slider that returns values from 0 to 100. I am using this to control the gain of an oscillator. When the slider is at 0, I would like the gain to be 0.0 When the slider is at 50, I would like the gain to be 0.1 When the slider is at 100, I would like the gain to be 0.5 So I need to find an equation to get a smooth curve which passes through all of these points. I've got the following equation which gives an exponential curve and gets the start and end points correct, but I don't know how to force the curve through the middle point.   I have the following tables below City --------- CityID StateID Name Description Reports --------- ReportID HeaderID FooterID Description I’m trying to generate a grid for use in a .Net control (Gridview, Listview…separate issue about which will be the ‘best’ one to use for my purposes) which will assign the reports as the columns and the cities as the rows. Which cities get displayed is based on the state selected, and is easy enough SELECT * FROM CITIES WHERE STATEID=@StateID However, the user is able to select which reports are being generated for each City (Demographics, Sales, Land Area, etc.). Further, the resultant cells (City * Report) is a sub-query on different tables based on the city selected and the report. Ie. Column Sales selected yields SELECT * FROM SALES WHERE CITYID=@CityID I’ve programmed a VERY inelegant solution using multiple queries and brute-forcing the grid to be created (line by line, row by row creation of data elements), but I’m positive there’s got to be a better way of accomplishing this…? Any / all suggestions appreciated here as the brute force approach I’ve gotten is slow and cumbersome…and this will have to be used often by the client, so I’m not sure it’ll be acceptable in it’s current implementation.
