  • How to void authorized transaction in authorize.net gateway using ActiveMerchant

    Goal: Only have successful purchases show up on a customer's billing statement. I don't want declined authorizations showing up on their billing statement (as seen in an online banking system) as pending. A customer often will accidentally input an incorrect billing address, for example, followed by a correct one. Together, the two attempts, one successful and one not both show up on their billing statement as pending prior to settlement. This can scare the customer as it looks potentially like they will be charged twice. Details: When I do an AUTH_CAPTURE (via ActiveMerchant's purchase) or an AUTH (via ActiveMerchant's authorize) which is declined and subsequently want to void that authorization (via ActiveMerchant's void) so as not to have it appear on a customer's billing statement as pending (even though it will settle out after a few days), the gateway can't find the transaction to void using the authorization code returned from the authorization or capture method calls on the gateway. This is specific to the authorize.net AIM gateway. Please advise. Thanks!

  • Do I need to contact a lawyer to report a GPL violation in software distributed on Apple's App Store?

    Some company is selling software through Apple's App Store which uses portions of code that I released publicly under the GPL. The company is violating the licensing terms in two ways, by (1) not preserving my copyright statement, and not releasing their code under the GPL license and (2) by distributing my GPL-licensed code through Apple's App Store. (The Free Software Foundation has made clear that the terms of the GPL and those of the App Store are incompatible.) I want to report this to Apple, and ask that they take appropriate action. I have tried mailing them to ask for more information about the reporting process, and have received the automated reply quoted below. The last point in the list of things one needs to provide, the “a statement by you, made under penalty of perjury,” sounds as if they mean some kind of specific legal document. I'm not sure. Does this mean I need to contact a lawyer just to file the report? I'd like to avoid going through that hassle if at all possible. (Besides an answer to this specific question, I'd welcome comments and experience reports from anyone who has already had to deal with a GPL violation on Apple's App Store.)     Hi there! I'm working my way through adapting a template I have been given that is basically a list of products for sale. I want to change it from a top-down list into a table layout.   • Transaction issue in java with hibernate - latest entries not pulled from database

    Hi, I'm having what seems to be a transactional issue in my application. I'm using Java 1.6 and Hibernate 3.2.5. My application runs a monthly process where it creates billing entries for a every user in the database based on their monthly activity. These billing entries are then used to create Monthly Bill object. The process is: Get users who have activity in the past month Create the relevant billing entries for each user Get the set of billing entries that we've just created Create a Monthly Bill based on these entries Everything works fine until Step 3 above. The Billing Entries are correctly created (I can see them in the database if I add a breakpoint after the Billing Entry creation method), but they are not pulled out of the database. As a result, an incorrect Monthly Bill is generated. If I run the code again (without clearing out the database), new Billing Entries are created and Step 3 pulls out the entries created in the first run (but not the second run). This, to me, is very confusing.   • Alt-Tab in 12.04 requires pressing Enter to select app, can I disable that?

    Alt+Tab quickly opens the switcher for me, but tabbing over to the next app and releasing the keys will just leave it selected, not switch to it. I have to press Enter to actually switch to the app. How do I make it automatically switch when I release like every other switcher out there? Same behavior occurs when using Super+Tab with either the Compiz Ring Switcher or Shift Switcher. This seems different from the 11.10 behavior.

  • What are the app file size limitations for different smartphone OSes & carriers?

    I know the iPhone App Store limits how large an app can be in general and there are also limitations with AT&T over the size it can be to transmit over a data plan vs WiFi. I have no idea what, if any, these limits are for Android apps and what I'm finding online is a mix of different numbers. Does anyone know these numbers definitively? The Android game I'm porting is in the 20-30MB range and we'd like to know if we need to further reduce its size.

I am learning Ruby On Rails currently but wonder if, starting in the 4th quarter of 2012, I am focusing on a technology (web development) that is becoming obsolete.   • Run Rails 3 app on a Rails 2 server/machine?

    I'm trying to run a Rail 3 (3.0.10) app on a shared joyent smartmachine server (I don't have root access) which has Rails 2 (2.3.11) installed , and I'm not sure what to do after I freeze my Rails 3 app with bundle install --deployment. It seems like with the Rails 3 and bundler gems not being installed on the server locally, my app isn't even recognizing the local version of Rails I have frozen with my app. Has anyone gotten this to work, or have any advice? The server runs Apache, and I think I can get lighttpd installed too - but I'd rather stay with Apache if I can. Also, if it matters, Passenger is not an installed gem either...and I'm not sure I can freeze that with my app. Update 11/30/2011 12:30 PM EST Bundler is not installed on this server, either. Not sure if having that would enable the new Rails 3 "freeze" (bundle --deployment) to work or not...

  • Trick to enabling FTP upload from an app in Windows 8?

    I have an older Win32 app that uses FTP to upload some data to a server from time to time. This app works great in Windows XP and has been working fine in Windows 7 and Vista. For some reason, when running under Windows 8 it has trouble uploading its data. It appears to connect and upload the data OK but it has times out when disconnecting. The data does not appear on the server. I have limited visibility into the app while it's running so sorry for the vague nature of the description. My question is: Is there some security setting in Windows 8 that would keep this app from using FTP? When I check the settings it looks to me like I have it set up to prompt me about any permissions problems it might have, and I'm not seeing any prompts. I've tried running this app in XP/SP3 compatibility mode with no luck. At this point I'm just looking for some clues as to where to look.
