• Why sometimes Windows cannot kill a process?

  Right now I'm trying to Run/Debung my app on VisualStudio, but it cannot create it because the las instance of the app.vshost.exe is still running. Then, by using the Task Manager i'm trying to kill it, but it just remains there with no signal of activity. Beyond that particular case (maybe a VS bug), i'm very curious about the technical reasons why sometimes Windows cannot kill a process??? Can, an enlighted OS related developer, please try to explain? (And please don't start a Unix/Linux/Mac battle against Windows)

• Problem deploying portlets on JBoss Portal 2.7.2: Not a canonical value

  I just downloaded the JBoss Portal Server 2.7.2 (JBoss Portal + JBoss AS 4.2.3 bundle to be precise) and tried deploying portlets just as the SimpleHelloWorld provided in the samples. The portlet gets deployed fine but when I put it on a page I get the following exception. I tried adding other Portlets as well (such as the booking MVC portelt supplied with Spring WebFlow dist) but the same problem happens. The problem happens when the new instances are created by me, example when i create a new instance of CMS Portlet, I get the same error. If I use an existing instance it works. If I deploy a portlet that creates an instance using the "portle-instances.xml" then it works fine, but creating additional instances using the Admin and deploying them on page fails due to the following error. What am I doing wrong? • singleton vs factory?

  i've got 3 Log classes that all implements iLog interface: DatabaseLog FileLog ScreenLog there can only be one instance of them. initially i though of using single pattern for each class but then i thought why not use a factory for instantiation instead, cause then i wont have to create single pattern for each one of them and for all future Log classes. and maybe someone would want them as multiple objects in the future. so my questions is: should i use factory or singleton pattern here?

• Multiple Instances of a single MEF DLL

  Apparently .NET 4.0 does not have the PartCreator/ExportFactory for non-SL. Which is something I think I need for this. I was wondering if someone can help me (with an example please) of how to create multiple instances of the EXPORTED type in a DLL. Basically say I have a DLL that contains a type ConsoleLogger and it uses the interface ILogger (which I import/export through MEF)...How would I create an instance of ConsoleLogger whenever I wanted to? Also..Is this even possible?

• AjaxMin4 bug with Visual Studio 2010 RC?

  When I compile my solution I get 2 errors which I did not get with version of 1.1 of AjaxMin. The "SourceFiles" parameter is not supported by the "AjaxMin" task. Verify the parameter exists on the task, and it is a settable public instance property. The "AjaxMin" task could not be initialized with its input parameters. If I re-install AjaxMin4 then reload VS it works again until I reboot the PC. Is this a known issue and is there a fix?

  I have an instance of dict with ints, floats, strings as keys, but the problem is when there are a as int and b as float, and float(a) == b, then their hash values are the same, and thats what I do NOT want to get because I need unique hash vales for this cases in order to get corresponding values.   Hi, I am trying to automate the creation of team projects using a command built into VS 2010 called File.BatchNewTeamProject using a project settings file as an argument, and executing this as a process silently in the background from my c# win app. I am aware of a requirement that Team Explorer has to be open and connected to TFS before this command can run, however, when I start a process with devenv.exe, a fresh instance of visual studio pops up with Team Explorer not connected by default. How can I solve this problem?

  Hi, I was using the sys.ui.dataview, ado.net data services and a html page to provide an edit page. It was working fine, but when I wanted to apply some ACT features, for instance watermark or autocomplete on a textbox (input) within the dataview div, its not applied. However, when I move that text box, out of the div, it is working fine and the watermark effect was applied. Am I doing something wrong or any advice ? Thanks

• Post parameters are becoming null (at random)

  Hi, My web application is developed with Struts2 and it was working fine till recently. All of a sudden one of the modules has started malfunctioning. The malfunctioning module is 'Update Student details' page. This page has a lot of fields like 'schoolName', 'degreeName', etc . School 1: <input name="schoolName"> School 2: <input name="schoolName"> ..... School n: <input name="schoolName"> As mentioned earlier, the page was working perfectly fine till recently. Now, one/many of the values of 'schoolName', 'degreeName', etc are being received as "" (EMPTY STRING) on the server-side. For debugging, I used firebug and remote-debugging in eclipse. I find that the post-parameters are correct on the client-side. For instance, during one of the submissions the post-parameters were as below (i noted them from firebug).   Why is locking a type considered very bad? For example, lock(typeof(DateTime)) I understand that static methods of any class in .net is considered thread safe, and that instance members are not. So it isn't necessary to lock DateTime while you are using it. The book I am reading doesn't explain why it is bad it just says it is. Any explanation will be great.
