• SQL CASE WHEN NULL - question

  Ok, so I'm trying to select an amount of rows from a column that holds the value 3, but only if there are no rows containing 10 or 4, if there are rows containing 10 or 4 I only want to show those. What would be a good syntax to do that? So far I've been attempting a CASE WHEN statement, but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (My database is in an MS SQL 2008 server)

Below is how I imagine it should work: db.mycollection.update({"uid":"ABCDEF"}, {$set:{"rows.$.status_id":1}},false,true) However I get the error: can't append to array using string field name [$] I have tried for quite a while with no luck. • WPF - How do I style a row based on a binding property value?

  Hey! So I am trying to bind a collection of objects (IList<) to a WPF datagrid. I would like to make the row background a different color if the 'artist' property is null or empty. I am checking the value stored at the property on the LoadingRow datagrid event. Currently my implementation seems to style all of the rows with an empty or null 'artist' property correctly. The problem is that is also styles the rows where the property is not null or empty in some cases. So some rows are given the red background even though the rows 'artist' property is not null. Can anyone tell me why this could be?? • Java ternary operator and boxing Integer/int?

  I tripped across a really strange NullPointerException the other day caused by an unexpected type-cast in the ternary operator. Given this (useless exemplary) function: Integer getNumber() { return null; } I was expecting the following two code segments to be exactly identical after compilation: Integer number; if (condition) { number = getNumber(); } else { number = 0; } vs. Integer number = (condition) ? getNumber() : 0; . Turns out, if condition is true, the if-statement works fine, while the ternary opration in the second code segment throws a NullPointerException. It seems as though the ternary operation has decided to type-cast both choices to int before auto-boxing the result back into an Integer!?! In fact, if I explicitly cast the 0 to Integer, the exception goes away. In other words: Integer number = (condition) ? getNumber() : 0; is not the same as: Integer number = (condition) ? getNumber() : (Integer) 0; . So, it seems that there is a byte-code difference between the ternary operator and an equivalent if-else-statement (something I didn't expect). Which raises three questions: Why is there a difference? Is this a bug in the ternary implementation or is there a reason for the type cast? Given there is a difference, is the ternary operation more or less performant than an equivalent if-statement (I know, the difference can't be huge, but still)?

• Why is doing a top(1) on an indexed column in mssql slow?

  I'm puzzled by the following. I have a DB with around 10 million rows, and (among other indices) on 1 column is an index. Now I have 700k rows where the campaignid is indeed 3835 For all these rows, the connectionid is the same. I just want to find out this connectionid. use messaging_db; SELECT TOP (1) connectionid FROM outgoing_messages WITH (NOLOCK) WHERE (campaignid_int = 3835) Now this query takes approx 30 seconds to perform! I (with my small db knowledge) would expect that it would take any of the rows, and return me that connectionid If I test this same query for a campaign which only has 1 entry, it goes really fast. So the index works. How would I tackle this and why does this not work?

  I would need some help on how to optimize the query. select * from transaction where id < 7500001 order by id desc limit 16 when i do an explain plan on this - the type is "range" and rows is "7500000" According to the some online reference's this is explained as, it took the query 7,500,000 rows to scan and get the data. Is there any way i can optimize so it uses less rows to scan and get the data. Also, id is the primary key column.

• How do I request a single random row from a force.com database in SOQL?

  Total row-count is in the range 10k-100k rows. Can I use RAND() on force.com? Unfortunately although all the rows have a unique numeric identifier, there are many gaps, and I'd often want to select a random row from a filtered subset anyway. I suspect there's no particularly efficient way to do this, but is it possible at all? Ultimately all I want to do is to extract one row from a table (or a subset based on specific filter criteria) at random. If force.com doesn't let me select a random row, then can I query the rows to select from, and assign sequential IDs to all the rows, say 1-1,035, and then select a random number in that range locally, say 349, and then get row 349?

• New wxpython controls not displaying until resize

  I have created a custom control (based on a panel) in wxPython that provides a list of custom controls on panel within it. The user needs to be able to add rows at will and have those rows displayed. I'm having trouble getting the new controls to actually appear after they are added. I know they are present, because they appear after a resize of the frame, or if I add them before Show() is called on the frame. I've convinced myself it's something basic, but I can't find the mistake. • Need Help with Page Life Cycle(I think it is screwing me up)

  Hi I have dragged a empty asp.net table onto my webform. I generate all the rows in the code behind those. Now my table gets filled up and has dropdown lists. When the user hits save I go through all the rows and update the values from the dropdownlist in the db. This works all great. However if 2 columns have each have "Present" then those 2 columns should be not be shown anymore and 2 new columns get put in its place with other dropdown lists. This all works. However you have to refresh the entire page to for the 2 columns that should go away to go away. So what I tried to do is at the end of the button click event. Clear the whole table and then regenerate it. However when I do this then my values are not saved to the database anymore for whatever reason. if (IsPostBack == false) { // check if dummy variables exist in db- If true just generate tables with values in db. If not generate them. } else { // grab the values from the database // generate tables with the values } btn click event { go through all rows in table(foreach loop) update each column in the database with cells in each row. while in foreach loop. //done } So this is how it goes and it works expect(all correct values are saved) the table is just not updated to the user. Does not work if (IsPostBack == false) { // same code as above } // if postback is true do nothing. By the time it gets to the click event it says there is zero rows in the table so nothing happens. btn click event { // same code } Fails also. if (IsPostBack == false) { // same code as above } else { // same code as above but moved into its own method. gernerateTable(); } btn click event { // update all rows // once done clear the Tables rows // call generateTable() } This last one does nothing as for some reason it does not update anything. I don't understand why. So what am I doing wrong with this life cycle something in my process is wrong. The code works just not when I want the table to be updated right away.

• NotApplicable marker with display pattern

  Ok, so I'm pretty new to Cocoa, especially Bindings, but here's what I'm trying to do. I've got a Core Data model consisting of two entities: Category and Item. Category has a to-many relationship to Item called children, and Item has a relationship to Category called parent. Item has two attributes that Category does not have: quantity and desiredQuantity. What I'd like to do is display the tree in an NSOutlineView with two columns. One column is bound to the name of either the Category or the Item. I want to the second column to display something along the lines of 2 of 5 for the Item rows and nothing at all for the Category rows. When I use a display pattern, the Category rows end up showing of I noticed that if I don't use a display pattern for the second column, and instead just bind its Value to either the quantity or the desiredQuantity, the Category rows show nothing; its only if I try to use the display pattern. How can I make it display nothing for the Category rows and still use the display pattern? Or can I? Edit: I guess I didn't explain what the NotApplicable marker has to do with anything - Category does have properties for quantity and desiredQuantity, but they just return NSNotApplicableMarker.

• Fix DB duplicate entries (MySQL bug)

  I'm using MySQL 4.1. Some tables have duplicates entries that go against the constraints. When I try to group rows, MySQL doesn't recognise the rows as being similar. Example: Table A has a column "Name" with the Unique proprety. The table contains one row with the name 'Hach?' and one row with the same name but a square at the end instead of the '?' (which I can't reproduce in this textfield) A "Group by" on these 2 rows return 2 separate rows This cause several problems including the fact that I can't export and reimport the database. On reimporting an error mentions that a Insert has failed because it violates a constraint. In theory I could try to import, wait for the first error, fix the import script and the original DB, and repeat. In pratice, that would take forever. Is there a way to list all the anomalies or force the database to recheck constraints (and list all the values/rows that go against them) ? I can supply the .MYD file if it can be helpful.

• Autofiltered List; cross-row formula

  I have a large Autofiltered list (~600 rows), with some of the rows being summary rows that I want to use a UDF to display the lowest priority listed in any of the 'child' cells. I can pass to my formula the right cells, but they are no longer correct if the list is re-ordered in any way. Is there a way to give the formula the right cell and have it recognise that I want that row and only ever that row? I can do it with a VLOOKUP to look at a hidden column that lists wether the 'child' row matches the right criteria, but with 600 rows and each parent row requiring about a dozen 'child' cells each, it's too slow.

  So far my program can display a database of custom annotation views. Eventually I want my program to be able to display extra information after a button on the annotation bubble is clicked. Each element in the database has a unique entry Number, so I thought it would be a good idea to add this entry number as a property of the custom annotation. The problem I am having is that after the button is clicked and the program switches to a new view I am unable to retrieve the entry number of the annotation I selected. • Two Objects created with the same Address in Flex

  Hi, I have an issue in flex which is causing a bit of a headache! I am adding objects to an ArrayCollection but in doing so, another ArrayCollection is also picking up these changes even though there is no binding occurring. I can see from the debug that the two ACs have the same address but for the life of me can't figure out why. I have two Array Collections: model.index.rows //The main array collection model.index.holdRows //The array collection that imitates the above This phantom data binding occurs only for the first iteration in the loop and for all others it will just write it the once. • Multiple Scripts With the Same MySQL Query Running At Once => Will There Be Interference?

  I want to have multiple scripts running from cron at the same time. They will all update, say, 500 rows with a unique status ID for that particular script to use. If each script grabs the same type of rows to update, and the scripts run at once, will there be interference between the queries run at the same time? For example, using this query: UPDATE table SET status = <unique script ID> WHERE status = 0 LIMIT 500 Will I get the same rows updating more than once? I'm trying to get each script to get unique rows. I was thinking of using sleep() to make the queries run at different times, but I'm not sure if that's necessary. Thanks.

  Hi, i have two tables category and hotels where category.id should be equal to hotels.catid. Now how do i select 3 rows from each different category from the hotels table. I have this query: select h.* from hotels h inner join category c on h.catid = c.id order by h.catid, h.hid this selects all records, but i want to select three rows per different category so in all it should return 9 rows with 3 rows for each category. If this can not be done in mysql, you could also suggest php code please. Thanks
