  • Can Visual Studio Express run from USB drive?

    - by system PAUSE
Using an arbitrary Windows machine (2000/XP or later), I can install Eclipse CDT to a USB drive move that USB drive onto a different Windows machine--one that does not have any form of Eclipse software already installed, and potentially a different version of Windows (but 2000/XP or later) use Eclipse to develop application-level C/C++ programs on that second machine (and that includes using the debugger), running directly from the USB drive without copying anything to C:. I can do all this without having Administrator privileges on either machine. I can do the same with NetBeans, and with several other IDEs that support C/C++ development. Is it possible to do this with any version of Visual Studio Express? If not, can you explain the technical reason(s) this doesn't work?

  • how to protect php app (vbulletin) from hackers

    - by samsmith
Our vBulletin system is under constant attack, raising cpu load and making the system very slow for legit users. The attack is a script type attack that is attempting to log in and/or create new login ids (mostly it is trying to create login ids in order to spam the site). In vBulletin, we have black listed large ranges of ips, which has helped a lot, but the attacks continue. Is there an automated way to protect the application or web server? ideally, the protection would detect the pages accessed and automatically black list the ip.

  • Why my linux signal handler run only once

    - by Henry Fané
    #include <iostream> #include <signal.h> #include <fenv.h> #include <string.h> void signal_handler(int sig, siginfo_t *siginfo, void* context) { std::cout << " signal_handler " << fetestexcept(FE_ALL_EXCEPT) << std::endl; throw "exception"; } void divide() { float a = 1000., b = 0., c, f = 1e-300; c = a / b; std::cout << c << " and f = " << f << std::endl; } void init_sig_hanlder() { feenableexcept(FE_ALL_EXCEPT); struct sigaction sa, initial_sa; sa.sa_sigaction = &signal_handler ; sigemptyset( &sa.sa_mask ) ; sa.sa_flags = SA_SIGINFO; // man sigaction(3) // allows for void(*)(int,siginfo_t*,void*) handler sigaction(SIGFPE, &sa, &initial_sa); } int main(int argc, char** argv) { init_sig_hanlder(); while(true) { try { sleep(1); divide(); } catch(const char * a) { std::cout << "Exception in catch: " << a << std::endl; } catch(...) { std::cout << "Exception in ..." << std::endl; } } return 0; } Produce the following results on Linux/g++4.2: signal_handler 0 Exception in catch: exception inf and f = 0 inf and f = 0 inf and f = 0 inf and f = 0 So, signal handler is executed the first time but the next fp exception does not trigger the handler again. Where am I wrong ?

  • Running an app that requires an administrator account from a service

    - by Bergvall
Is it possible to run handle.exe (from sysinternals) from a service (in windows7) without having to turn off UAC? The service is a custom c-app that needs to find out which process is locking a file it tries to access and handle.exe seems to be a good way to solve it but i can't get it to work with UAC turned on. This app runs all the time so i can't have a UAC prompt while its running but its fine if it shows up at startup. Handle.exe works fine from an admin commandprompt but fails when trying to run from a normal prompt. I call handle.exe from CreateProcess() and get the output from pipes. I guess there should be a way to solve this but i can't figure it out. Setting up the service to log in from an admin account does not seem to work.

  • Forking Public GitHub Code that is also Sold as a Complied App

    - by Ryan Castillo
I found a public repo on GitHub that I would like to play around with. I can see myself potentially spending a lot of time writing tests for it and expanding its functionality. The code is also being sold as an app. I have no problem with this because I admire the owner's practice of sharing his source and also providing the convenience of paying for the app for users who don't want to mess with compiling it. If I was to spend time with this code as a separate fork what would prevent the owner from merging it with his master branch? Is it ethical for him to still profit off of my added functionality? Should a line be drawn somewhere?

  • Authenticating a user for a single app with multiple domains

    - by hofnarwillie
I have one asp.net web application, but two different domains point to this web app. For instance: www.one.com and www.two.com both point to the same web app. I have an issue where I need certain pages to be on a specific domain (due to some security requirements from our online payment provider - a third party website). So let's say page1.aspx needs to be called on www.two.com The process is as follows: A user logs into www.one.com The authentication cookie is saved to the browser The user then navigates to page1.aspx and, if on the wrong domain, gets redirected to the correct domain. (this redirection happens on page1.aspx in the page_load event) Then asp.net redirects the user to the login screen, because the authentication cookie is not sent to www.two.com. How can I track the user and keep him/her logged in between the two domains?

  • Is directly executing SQL bad app design?

    - by Michael Lowman
I'm developing an iOS application that's a manager/viewer for another project. The idea is the app will be able to process the data stored in a database into a number of visualizations-- the overall effect being similar to cacti. I'm making the visualizations fully user-configurable: the user defines what she wants to see and adds restrictions. She might specify, for instance, to graph a metric over the last three weeks with user accounts that are currently active and aren't based in the United States. My problem is that the only design I can think of is more or less passing direct SQL from the iOS app to the backend server to be executed against the database. I know it's bad practice and everything should be written in terms of stored procedures. But how else do I maintain enough flexiblity to keep fully user-defined queries? While the application does compose the SQL, direct SQL is never visible or injectable by the user. That's all abstracted away in UIDateTimeChoosers, UIPickerViews, and the like.

  • Writing my first blackberry app

    - by skyeagle
I am contemplating writing my first blackberry app. I am fundamentally, a C/C++ programmer (not Java), can anyone provide some guidelines on the quickest route (i.e. shallowest learning curve) to writing a blackberry app? Any resources/links would be useful. As an aside: In an ideal world, I would like to write once and deploy for both Blackberry and the iPhone, but since I am targetting largely business people, I guess blackberry should be my target - right? Is it possible to write once and deploy on BOTH iphone and BB?

  • how to controller (start/kill) a background process (server app) in ruby

    - by rubiii
hey guys, i'm trying to set up a server for integration tests (specs actually) via ruby and can't figure out how to control the process. so, what i'm trying to do is: run a rake task for my gem that executes the integration specs the task needs to first start a server (i use webrick) and then run the specs after executing the specs it should kill the webrick so i'm not left with some unused background process webrick is not a requirement, but it's included in the ruby standard library so being able to use it would be great. hope anyone is able to help! ps. i'm running on linux, so having this work for windows is not my main priority (right now).

  • Need new method for linking to native mapping from mobile web app

    - by Carter
My mobile web apps use a map button which automatically starts the mapping features of Android and iPhone by simply linking to http://maps.google.com/maps?q=New+York. iOs 6 comes out, the links stop working, because Apple wants us to use "maps.APPLE.com". Turns out ANYTHING you send to "maps.apple.com" gets forwarded to "maps.google.com". So now I have to specially detect iOs 6 and swap out links just so Apple can forward everything back to Google anyway. Is there a clean way to open the device/native mapping app from a mobile web app that works on Android, iOs 6, and iOs pre-6, since iOs 6 nerfed it? Recently updated documentation on Apple dev site... http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#featuredarticles/iPhoneURLScheme_Reference/Articles/MapLinks.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40007894-SW1 Both these links go to the same place http://maps.google.com/maps?q=New+York http://maps.apple.com/maps?q=New+York

  • How to store a 250mb database in an Offline Web App

    - by Couto
Ok, maybe i'm not seeing the whole picture or something, but i kinda need a brainstorm. So the purpose is to make a webapp (HTML5, CSS, Javascript) that has to search on a 250mb database without any internet connection, so.. yes the database has to be on the client side. The hard part here is, this App has to work on an iPod or iPhone without internet connection. (An initial connection to download the App is ok), LocalStorage has a 5mb limit, couchDB would be great since they have an webapp easily accessed by Javascript (privacy concerns don't matter at this point), so i'm pretty much out of ideas.... Does anyone see an alternative, or solution for the purpose?

  • How do I make java wait for boolean to run funciton

    - by TWeeKeD

I have a method that runs one function that give a response. this method actually handles the uploading of the file so o it takes a second to give a response. I need this response in the following method. sendPicMsg needs to complete and then forward it's response to sendMessage. Please help. b1.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { if(!uploadMsgPic.equalsIgnoreCase("")){ Log.v("response","Pic in storage"); sendPicMsg(); sendMessage(); }else{ sendMessage(); } 1st Method public void sendPicMsg(){ Log.v("response", "sendPicMsg Loaded"); if(!uploadMsgPic.equalsIgnoreCase("")){ final SharedPreferences preferences = this.getActivity().getSharedPreferences("MyPreferences", getActivity().MODE_PRIVATE); AsyncHttpClient client3 = new AsyncHttpClient(); RequestParams params3 = new RequestParams(); File file = new File(uploadMsgPic); try { File f = new File(uploadMsgPic.replace(".", "1.")); f.createNewFile(); //Convert bitmap to byte array Bitmap bitmap = decodeFile(file,400); ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); bitmap.compress(CompressFormat.PNG, 0 /*ignored for PNG*/, bos); byte[] bitmapdata = bos.toByteArray(); //write the bytes in file FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(f); fos.write(bitmapdata); params3.put("file", f); } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } params3.put("email", preferences.getString("loggedin_user", "")); params3.put("webversion", "1"); client3.post("http://peekatu.com/apiweb/msgPic_upload.php",params3, new AsyncHttpResponseHandler() { @Override public void onSuccess(String response) { Log.v("response", "Upload Complete"); refreshChat(); //responseString = response; Log.v("response","msgPic has been uploaded"+response); //parseChatMessages(response); response=picurl; uploadMsgPic = ""; if(picurl!=null){ Log.v("response","picurl is set"); } if(picurl==null){ Log.v("response", "picurl no ready"); }; } }); sendMessage(); } } 2nd Method public void sendMessage(){ final SharedPreferences preferences = this.getActivity().getSharedPreferences("MyPreferences", getActivity().MODE_PRIVATE); if(preferences.getString("Username", "").length()<=0){ editText1.setText(""); Toast.makeText(this.getActivity(), "Please Login to send messages.", 2); return; } AsyncHttpClient client = new AsyncHttpClient(); RequestParams params = new RequestParams(); if(type.equalsIgnoreCase("3")){ params.put("toid",user); params.put("action", "sendprivate"); }else{ params.put("room", preferences.getString("selected_room", "Adult Lobby")); params.put("action", "insert"); } Log.v("response", "Sending message "+editText1.getText().toString()); params.put("message",editText1.getText().toString() ); params.put("media", picurl); params.put("email", preferences.getString("loggedin_user", "")); params.put("webversion", "1"); client.post("http://peekatu.com/apiweb/messagetest.php",params, new AsyncHttpResponseHandler() { @Override public void onSuccess(String response) { refreshChat(); //responseString = response; Log.v("response", response); //parseChatMessages(response); if(picurl!=null) Log.v("response", picurl); } }); editText1.setText(""); lv.setSelection(adapter.getCount() - 1); }

  • Android App Support Options

    - by Pughjl
I've got a free app I'm planning on submitting to the marketplace. Looking over the submission form I see they expect a web site or email for support. Users?! I've got to worry about users if I submit an app? I suppose I would like to get some abuse from users, but I don't want to go broke doing it. So what are my options? I have a web site--I suppose I could install forum software on it--that sounds like a lot of work though. Some apps reference a blogspot page--or I could use my Word Press site. They seems a bit disorganized for getting user feedback though.

  • Best way to notify several java applets/applications of a change on a server

    - by Dustin
I need to know the best (fastest) way to have a server (preferably a php based one, but a jsp/servlet one could be set up as well using google app engine) notify several java applets/applications that a change has occurred to the data. The way i am picturing this to work will be very similar to that of the way i think an online java game (like Runescape) works User 1: Changes data on server. Server: returns success to User 1, notifies connected computers of change. Connected Computer 1: processes change, returns success to server. Connected Computer 2: processes change, returns success to server. Connected Computer 3: processes change, returns success to server. Connected Computer 4: processes change, returns success to server. I am hoping to have this entire process complete in half a second, and not involve polling as there will be long durations of nothing, followed by a sudden moment where 4 events happen in succession.

  • modifying constants in objective c during run time

    - by moshikafya
I am trying to solve the following problem. I have the following constants in my header file: #define PREFS_MY_CONSTANT_1 @"bla1" #define PREFS_MY_CONSTANT_2 @"bla2" #define PREFS_MY_CONSTANT_3 @"bla3" ... In one of my functions, I'd like to print to the UIbutton one of those strings based on user input, so say the user inputs '1', i would show bla1. Instead of creating a huge switch (i have 100 of those), I am looking for a way to combine the constant with the variable holding the user input, so something like that ideally: NSInteger input; [button setTitle:PREFS_MY_CONSTANT_{$input} forState: UIControlStateNormal]; Is something like that possible? what would be the best way to solve this?

  • Getting my app to work on my phone

    - by user237259
Hello I wrote an app android sdk version 1.5 using it's built in emulator in eclipse. I created a database outside of eclipse populated it with data and push it to the emulator folder data/data/project name/database and could access it fine from the my app, everything was working great. My final step was to test the apk file on an actual phone. When I did that the program would not work. After looking into it I found that the database file was not being uploaded into the phone. Is there a special way to install the apk file on the actual phone to get the embedded database to work? Or can I assume that since everything worked fine on the sdk 1.5 emulator that everything will work when I upload it to the market. Thanks in advance.

  • Setting cookie in LiftFilter

    - by Gero
Hi, How do I set a cookie in a LiftFilter.doFilter method? I tried to set the cookie as follows (stripped some code): class AuthenticationFilter extends LiftFilter { override def doFilter(request: ServletRequest, response: ServletResponse , chain: FilterChain) { val cookie = new HTTPCookie("SomeCookie", Full("" + System.nanoTime), Empty, Full("/authentication"), Full(60 * 60 * 24 * 14), Empty, Empty) cookie.setPath("/somePath") S.addCookie(cookie) val httpResp = response.asInstanceOf[HttpServletResponse] httpResp.sendRedirect("/some/page.html") } } However, when I check the browsers cookie, no cookie is set (apart from JSESSIONID), and I know the doFilter method is being executed because of logging messages and the fact that the browser is redirected to /some/page.html. I'm using Scala 2.8, Lift 2.1-SNAPSHOT and the app is running is GAE (1.3.6, only tested on dev_appserver so far). Any ideas? Thanks, Gero

  • how to run few vim commands in a raw

    - by temujin.ya.ru
Hello. This is really noob question. There is set of vim commands : command1 : command2 etc., which I would neet to type in in a raw quite often. How to I make it automatic? It is simple regexp replace command set, however I cannot script those in sed, since it involves non-latin locales and for some reason vim handles non-latin regexps correctly, while sed not.
