• Apache2 + FCGI + PHP5 not creating sockets / pools

  I have a pretty vanilla setup with Apache2, FastCGI setup as DSO and serving PHP through an external CGI script that sets the max children / serves the request to PHP. The issue is FastCGI doesn't appear to be creating the PHP sockets / pooling them so each request calls the php-cgi binary, then dies off .. effectively making the reason I want to use FastCGI moot. The only configuration directives I have are: AddHandler php5-fastcgi .php Action php5-fastcgi /cgi-bin/fcgi.cgi FastCgiIpcDir /usr/local/apache2/fastcgi The dyanmic/ directory is getting created as anticipated, but there are no sockets in there. Permissions are indeed correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

• Forward emails from specific domain in Exchange

  Our Exchange server handles emails for @ourdomain.com (for example). We have multiple clients that will send emails to our [email protected] email address and we want to configure server-side rules that will forward emails from each client's domain to a different email address within our exchange server. For example: [email protected] sends an email to [email protected] and we forward it to [email protected] [email protected] sends an email to [email protected] and we forward it to [email protected] ...and so on. It would be nice if we can additionally stop the email arriving in the [email protected] mailbox, but that is not a specific requirement. We have a rule setup in Outlook that sort of works, but it doesn't do all from a domain only specific email addresses. It does work when Outlook is not running which is a start. I realise it would be easier to give each client a partiuclar email address and have them email straight to that rather than all use the same, but this is what I have been asked to setup.... :S

• How to get sharing options to stick - ubuntu 12.04

  I'm having a really hard time trying to get my sharing set up on my 12.04 system. I've tried both desktop version and server - I'm a bit of a linux n00b, so I need a GUI, command line is beyond me and no time to learn it (not till after I get the shares setup, at least) My problem is, whenever I try to set permissions in Nautilus, it just reverts back to the default which is to "none" Basically when I choose an option... it doesn't stick. I can create shares, and it asks me if I want to add permissions automatically - but they do not stick either. When I go to look at the shared folders in Windows (or even on my Android Phone, or Mac) it gives me permissions errors and doesn't let me log in, despite me clicking "allow guest access" I have no idea what to do or where to go. I've tried searching forums and google, and I've tried everything I come across - no avail. I've even tried Mint builds to see if it's different, no change there either. Please help! I really want to setup a server to share my media files and do backups in my house. Thanks for your help!

• Setting DNS Siffix for multiple network adapters in a VM

  Is there a way to set the DNS Suffix for multiple network adapters in a VM using the sysprep file? We are trying to setup Windows 2003 VMs with 2 network adapters. In the one adapter case the sysprep we are able to set the suffix using DNSDomain. But this doesnt work in the 2 adapter case. The The VM is setup corrently though without any issues but one of our apps relies on the DNS Suffix value to work correctly. Thanks in advance.

• How do I login as a different user on Mac OS X Lion?

  I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Lion which has a single local user (the local administrator account that I setup) and then the domain user setup on the laptop. I've gone into "Login Options" under System Preferences Users & Groups and set the option "Display login window as: Name and password". When the laptop first boots, it has automatically selected the local admin account, and I don't see where I have the option to change users. However, when if I log into that local administrator account and then log out (without rebooting) it will allow me to enter the user and password.

• Unable to mount NTFS Partition after resizing

  I was having only 15 GB space allocated to LINUX. I wanted to have more space available to linux. So I just re sized one of my ntfs partition using GParted. But after resizing I am not able to open the partition neither in Ubuntu nor in windows. OS: Dual Boot Win7/Ubuntu 10.10 The error message i get is the following: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 12: Failed to read last sector (395458824): Invalid argument HINTS: Either the volume is a RAID/LDM but it wasn't setup yet, or it was not setup correctly (e.g. by not using mdadm --build ...), or a wrong device is tried to be mounted, or the partition table is corrupt (partition is smaller than NTFS), or the NTFS boot sector is corrupt (NTFS size is not valid). Failed to mount '/dev/sda5': Invalid argument The device '/dev/sda5' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS. Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?

  I had setup a Samba 3 server as PDC with a passdb LDAP backend. Server SID: S-1-5-21-3270... Domain: A Every user has a SambaSID beginning with this Server SID. But now I try to setup a second server for some shares. This server should use the same LDAP backend because I don't want to have two LDAP backends. Otherwise I have to do modifcations (e.g. add users) twice. Second Server SID: S-1-5-21-3797... Domain: B But now when a user try to mount this new share I see this error in samba log: The primary group domain sid(S-1-5-21-3797....) does not match the domain sid(S-1-5-21-3270...) for xxx(S-1-5-21-3270...). I understand the problem but what can I do to avoid to maintain two LDAP backends? Regards, Simon

• How can I use a computer as a router and send all client traffic through anonymous proxies?

  Is there a way that I can setup a spare box as a router on my network, and route client traffic through a proxy in order to hide my location? Specifically, I would like internet traffic to/from my Roku Box to be routed via proxy, but there is no proxy support built in to the Roku. So I would like wire my Roku directly my computer's second NIC, and force all traffic through a proxy. What kind of software and hardware setup will I need? Also, which anonymous proxy service are best for this purpose? I'm not interesting in full anonymity or encryption. I simply want to mask my location while providing the best possible throughput.

  Ok So I've got multiple tomcat instances setup on several AJP ports, I also have Apache httpd listening on port 8090 (cos I've got another app already using 8080 at the moment). I've successfully mapped urls such as mydomain.com:8090/demo and mydomain.com:8090/preprod to their respective tomcat instances using Jk Mount and the following vhosts config; <VirtualHost *:8090> JkMount /preprod* preprod JkMount /demo* demo </VirtualHost> But I also want the "root" address to map to another tomcat instance, what will become live/production, ie I want mydomain.com:8090/ to map a 3rd tomcat instance. At the moment nothing happens or changes if I just add to the above config a line; JkMount /* rootwar if I browse to mydomain.com:8090 I just get the same boring apache httpd landing page letting me know its running (ie index.html in httpd/htdocs) Is it possible to use JkMount to redirect the "root" address stuff to a tomcat instance? I can see that a rule like /* will also match URLs like mydomain.com/preprod but I was hoping the rules are applied in order so if /* appears at the end it effectively would be a "if its not one of the other environments, then direct to root/production" Just to be clear I'm trying to setup the following; mydomain.com:8090/preprod --> myApp running in tomcat1 mydomain.com:8090/demo --> myApp running in tomcat2 mydomain.com:8090 --> myApp running in tomcat3

Follow these short steps to get GlassFish 4.0 setup so you can start developing, deploying, and debugging your Java EE7 applications. Prerequisites GlassFish 4.0 Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse 12.1.1.2.2+ from OTN or Eclipse Marketplace Setting up the server connection In the Servers view, click to add a New > Server . Select GlassFish 4.0 from the list of supported server configurations. Pick your GlassFish installation directory (usually <glassfish 4>/glassfish) and select your domain. After you click Finish you should now be setup to launch Glassfish 4.0 in normal and debug mode within Eclipse as well as associate projects for deployment through the Add and Remove wizard. • Fresh install on SSD with Ubuntu and Windows Vista, using whole disk encryption for Ubuntu

  I would like to do a fresh install on a OCZ Vertex Plus R2 SSD 60GB drive I purchased on the cheap. Since the AES-encryption looks like it may not work optimally for this drive, I would like to set up a dual-boot to Windows Vista (the only Windows copy I have for clean install purposes) and Ubuntu 12.04 with the best encryption scheme possible. My plan is to have Windows around just in case I need to use a program that won't work with Wine and Ubuntu as my daily OS with all of my information secured in case the laptop is ever stolen or sold. Although this setup will not provide a lot of space, I think I can squeeze both OSes and have enough for second-computer office tasks. So, my questions are: Which OS should I install first, Ubuntu or Vista? Any special considerations when partitioning the drive? How should I install Ubuntu to ensure full disk encryption for the Linux partition(s) and or my daily computing? Is there a significant performance upgrade with doing a solo install of Ubuntu instead of a dual boot setup? Will TRIM, for example, work correctly? Are there any significant security concerns with going the route of a dual-boot, other than the fact that any activity on Windows may be fully recoverable if the drive is stolen or sold? • What are the requirements for gettings django translations to work?

  Hi, I am hosting several djangosites on a CentOS 5 box. But I'm having difficulties with translations. So first i had to upgrade the gettext package from 0.14 to 0.16, but that didn't help. Now i can make and compile tranlsations files with the managment commands, but the translations does not show. I am sure that the translation files are located at the right place since they work with the same setup on a local installation, and django's own translation files does not work. (e.g the admin is not translated). What could i be missing in my server setup that makes this happen?

• Can you add doubleclick macros to exisiting ads

  Setup: A few weeks back I made some very simple html5 "ads" to run on a few of our partner sites. They weren't paid ads as we also manage these sites, however there are a few of them, so I made a modular solution that is hosted on one of our web servers and included on each page via javascript which outputs an iframe. Each search (ad has a search box) or click appends a url param that we track using custom vars in Google Analytics. In essence, the ad is a HTML page served in an iframe via javscript. Problem: We have an opportunity to run these ads on a third party site, I had sent them a brief how-to for inserting them and they came back saying that: The creative code doesn't contain the %u macro. We can’t substitute the default click-through URL without it. I am somewhat familiar with doubleclick from a web developer's POV, i have inserted DC dart tags before and even have implemented the ad tool for publishers. I have not, however, actually ever created an ad for the doubleclick network before. I assume the publisher needs these tags to track clicks and hence charge us. However, they have not responded to me in regards to these questions. Are macros something I can just add to or replace the existing links with, or do I need to completely setup the ad with doubleclcik - a big issue in the short term given we do not have a advertiser's account set up with them.   In our office the setup is like we have a UBUNTU server with DHCP Server connected to all the PCS via 24 port and 8 port DLink switches. How can I find all the PCS(with client name, ip and mac address)in the network?? When I do "vi /var/lib/dhcp3/dhcpd.leases", I get all the ip addresses for the switches. I have used "arp-scan --interface=eth0 --localnet" to get all the IPs and MAC Addresses in my local network. I couldn't find any option to diplay client name. Also I would like to assign particular IP for a particular PC. I have done the changes in the dhcp.conf file but it is not working as they are not directly connected to DHCP-server(DLink switches in between). How can I assign IPs for PCs in this kind of setup. The Setup should be at the end the following: Cable Modem (one IP adress) | [Ethernet] Sophos UTM (running as VM [VMWare Fusion 5] on the MacMini) | [WIFI] Airport Express v2 (for sharing Local Network to wireless and wired clients) 1)| [WIFI] 2)| [Ethernet over Thunderbolt Ethernet Adapter]* Clients MacMini (Local File Server) *To have the Mini also protected behind the UTM So the setup process for the UTM works fine, but then the problems start: I just have one external IP (from my cable modem provider)== So if I put the VM in briged mode my Internet connection drops, because the MacMini also has its IP adress. If I put the VM to NAT mode the Mini itself is not protected by the UTM So: is there a way to hide the en0 interface(Ethernet) and the en1 interface (Wifi) from the MacMini, so that they not even appear in System Preferences Network section but are available to the VM? That way the Mini must connect to the en2 interface (Thunderbolt adapter) to make any Internet/LAN connection and I just use the given single IP from the Cable Modem. Thaks for any suggestions... • Drupal on an NFS share has terrible performance

  We have a setup where a Drupal 7 site with the following setup - a VMware ESXi 4.1 host server running a web vm and an NFS VM. The web VM is using Apache and mod_php. The site is still in development thus we have to turn off all forms of caching due to the frequently-updated files. Each page request takes around 15-20 seconds to complete. Profiling the PHP code shows that the vast majority of time (normally over 90%) is taking by all the is_dir(), is_file() function calls that load up the modules. I've increased PHP's realpath cache size to several megs and an strace shows that the lstat calls then drop from over 200 to around 6 and stat() decreases a bit (around 600 calls). However, while this has shaved off quite a bit of time, I am simply unable to break past the 10 second per request barrier. Is there a way to get better performance out of this setup that doesn't involve caching? • Using Google's App Engine as CDN for static files

  I am planning on moving my static files to Google's App Engine. I was wondering if this is a good idea to do. I have read that is it possible that Google will cache your files on multiple locations, which is a good thing in my opinion. The setup should also be quite easy in eclipse with the GAE plugins. But i still have my doubts on the performance of this. Is the setup of App Engine optimized for serving static content. Now I have Nginx server my static content, will App Engine perform the same way. Are there any other ups or downs using this method?

• Methodology To Determine Cause Of User Specific Error

  We have software that for certain clients fails to download a file. The software is developed in Python and compiled into an Windows Executable. The cause of the error is still unknown but we have established that the client has an active internet connection. We suspect that the cause is due to the clients network setup. This error cannot be replicated in house. What technique or methodology should be applied to this kind of specific error that cannot be replicated in house. The end goal is to determine the cause of this error so we can move onto the solution. For example; Remote Debugging: Produce a debug version of the software and ask the client to send back a debug output file. This involves alot of time (back and forth communication) and requires the client to work and act in a timely manor to be successful. In-house debugging: Visit the client and determine their network setup, etc. Possibly develop a series of script tests before hand to run on the clients computer under the same network. Other methodologies and techniques I am not aware of?

• Jenkins projects not visible even though user has all privleges

  We want to lock down Jenkins and specific jobs to certain personnel. I have my account with all global privileges granted with project based matrix security. A coworker has a similar account and has been granted all the same privileges. When I log in with my account, I can see all of the projects we have setup. When my coworker whom has the exact same privileges logs in, none of the projects are visible. I've double and triple checked the permissions matrix to make sure we have the same global privileges; we do. Some of the projects have project specific privileges setup as well, but again; I've confirmed that both of us have the same access to these projects as well. So why can I see all the projects and my coworker is unable to see any of the projects?

Currently proxy server and samba sharing are running in RHEL5 server. I installed httpd,php,MySQL in server. And i would like to configure virtual hosting too for LAN. What i want do for it ? In server we have 2 Ethernet ports, 1 for local connection and another one for Internet. Internet provided by ADSL provider. (192.168.0.0 series for ADSL modem connection and 10.1.1.0 for LAN connection. If i want to use virtual hosting , am i want to setup local DNS server ? My requirements are, setup php with mySQL server for Local clients with multiple hosting , without disturbing proxy and samba. Help me to solve it.

  I'm currently getting TV and internet via IP to my house. The service comes into an ISP-supplied Router (ST585) which is in turn connected to an IPTV box. I need to replace the router, as it's port forwarding seems to be broken, so I was thinking of getting a box with an IGMP proxy. I once mistakenly got a non-IGMP box, with the result that the internet worked, but the IPTV didn't. The trouble is, I have no idea how to set up the IPTV part of the installation. I do have a copy of the ST585 configuration, but it doesn't look anything like the Cisco stuff that I learned about at CCNA. What are the steps necessary to reproduce the IGMP setup? I was thinking of WireSharking the communications on the network, but I suppose I'd need a hub for that? As a bonus, since the packets are coming in with the TV signal, is it possible to mess with the IGMP setup so I can watch TV anywhere in the house?

• Do virtual machines perform better on the host HDD or USB drive?

  The question I'm asking is kind of general, and I'll give more specifics about my specific setup. Here's the main question though: Do virtual machines generally perform better on the host HDD or is it better to operate them from an external disk? My specific setup: A Macbook Pro with a nearly full internal SATA drive that spins at 7200. On this system I'm running large programs like Photoshop and some other RAM-intense applications. I've dedicated 2 of my 8 gigs of RAM to my VMware Fusion virtual machine, which runs Windows 7 and Visual Studio, sits on the same drive. When that thing boots up, my system really starts crawling. I have an external USB (specifics of that drive are here) which I'm thinking about moving the VM to. Obviously a USB drive is slower than my internal HDD, but maybe having two operating systems using the same disk is WORSE than putting one of them on a separate (albiet slower) disk. This a bad idea?
