    Are there significant differences between FreeBSD and Ubuntu Linux when it comes to upgrading? FreeBSD appears to offers a more reliable path for upgrades with "freebsd-update" though I think "apt-get update --system" is the equivalent for Ubuntu. I'll like to know which one is less likely to produce SNAFUs when undertaking minor/major updates.

    I want to make use of an "external reference" in Word. (for anyone that knows AutoCAD, I want XREF abilities in Word) Essentially I have a custom "header" that I want included in a whole pile of documents... that all reference a single file... such that if my address, logo, tagline, phone, fax or email changes, I update the one file, and all of the other 101 files that use it automatically update when I next open/use them. I'm using Office 2007 if that makes any difference.

    I've been working on getting my snort machine up and running, and working through Snort IDS and IPS Toolkit. The authors suggest using Oinkmaster, but on that website, the last update was February of 2008. That seems sort of...odd. Maybe there haven't been any issues with oinkmaster in the past year and a half, but it made me wonder if there was another solution that I don't know about. If you use snort, do you automatically update your rules, and if so, how?

    I've been running Ubuntu 10.10 in a physical x86-64 machine. Today Update Manager reminded me that there are some updates to install and I confirmed the action. I should had read the update list but I didn't. I can only remember there is an update about cups. After the upgrading, Update Manager requires a restart and I confirmed too. For instance, apache2 for squeezeis is 2.2.16 (https://packages.debian.org/source/squeeze/apache2) However, last apache2 version for the 2.2.x branch is 2.2.27 Test repository can't be used since they use the 2.4.x versions and I'd like to stick on the 2.2.x (to avoid migration issues) How would you handle this situation and how can I update to 2.2.27 ?

    I've read in the "About Service Pack 2 for SharePoint Products and Technologies" paper that SP2 includes an update for the Update Statistics Timer Job that causes SharePoint to run SQL Server's online index rebuild feature (p.4). I'm uncertain of the terminology here but is this the rebuild that SQL Server uses for minor fragmentation (up to around 40%) and leaves the DB online? I'm also guessing that this will therefore not rebuild severely fragmented indexes as I think this requires the DB to come offline. Can someone please confirm my belief here?

When I click on the update directory, I get an access denied message, even though my account has admin privileges (XP Home). Two questions: How can I delete these folders, and how is it possible to restrict a folder this way?

Lets say my public IP is 1.2.3.4, my local IP is 192.168.0.10 and my domain is example.com I am running CentOS on a virtual machine (Parallels Desktop for Mac) with a LAN card reserved for it, so it gets Ip directly from the router. I have ports 80,443,53 forwarded to 192.168.0.10. Both Mac OS and CentOs firewalls are Off. Problem is that it automatically adopts the device capabilities of the new monitor and thus changing the settings for the large screen. I then have to go to a networked administration panel for the software to update the resolution settings.

    I have copied a document which contains some properties which are displayed in fields in the text. Specifically the "Subject" property. If I update the properties in "Menu Prepare Properties", then navigate to the field in my document, right-click it and select "Update Field", I would expect the field in my document to be updated with the new value that was entered in the menu, but the opposite is happening.   • WPF Combobox textbox not updating when binding changes.

    I have a WPF CombBox as follows: <ComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource myList}}" SelectedItem="{Binding Path=mySelectedItem}" /> The problem I have is that when the bound value changes, the selected value in the combobox's textbox does not update. (Note - the values in the combobox list do update). I am using MVVM so I can detect in the view model when the binding changes and call a property changed event and this is updating the combobox, but not the value displayed within the textbox. I think this could be done in the template of the combobox - somehow make the textbox be bound to the selecteditem of the combobox, or always update when it updates? I don't know how to do this though so any advice would be most appreciated.
