• Visual Studio Web Application edit source while running like in Tomcat\Eclipse\Java

  In an ASP.NET Web Site project, I've always been able to make changes to the underlying C# code and simply refresh the page in the browser and my changes would be there instantly. I can do the same thing when working with Java and Eclipse - edit my Java source and refresh the page and my changes are there. I cannot do this in ASP.NET MVC though and it is a real downer - I have to stop the running process and make my changes, and then restart debugging. This is a huge waste of time. Am I doing it wrong? What is the best approach to ASP.NET MVC development?

  It seems like a lit of people here and on many programmer wikis/blogs/ect. elsewhere really dislike VSS. A lot of people also have a serious dislike for cvs. In many places I have heard a lot of differing opinions on whether or not using vss or cvs is better or worse then using no source control, please rate the worst and explain why!!!!! you rated them this way. Feel free to throw in your own horrible system in the rankings. If you feel it depends on the circumstances try to explain the some of the different scenarios which lead to different rankings. (note:I see a lot of discussion of what is better but little of what is worse.) second note: while both answers are nice I'm looking less for good replacements and more for a comparison of which is worse and more importantly why!!!!!

  Hi, I'm looking for independent industry reports that compare and contrast the various source control tools out there. In particular, I care about Clearcase vs Sourcesafe vs SVN, but if the report includes other SCM systems that's fine. I need this for a client who wants to get a feel on exactly what they stand to gain switching to SVN (yes, from Clearcase and VSS). In other words, something I can use to sell it to their business.   Hi, I have a custom Control which contains the generic.xaml inside the Themes folder. I have set the build action to Resource. • Choosing a source control system: logical next steps after VSS

  I've been using Git for the past few months and love it. I looked into how to host it in a corporate environment. Considering a 10 person team who use Visual SourceSafe, programming in Coldfusion, Powerbuilder, PHP and a bit of .NET, I found, to my surprise, that the Git 'server' tooling is still fairly rudimentary. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1761054/git-in-a-company-hosting-own-server Question Apart from SVN, what other source control options would be a logical next step after VSS? Paid options are fine. Something with nice tooling, that isn't scary would be great :-)

Since he pulled his files, a month has gone by and I want to do the following tasks: Create a new branch Push the graphic designers project into that branch Merge his branch with Master I've tried the following the github forking guide with not much luck; when I attempt to push the files into a new branch I get an error: fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git How do I do this?

  I'm using a class that extends BytecodeScanningDetector to check for some problematic fields in a class. After detecting whether the field is problematic, I add it to the bug report like below: Once I run findbugs, it identifies the bug, lists it in the left pane, but does not highlight the corresponding source line. • Procedures before checking in to source control?

  I am starting to get a reputation at work as the "guy who breaks the builds". The problem is not that I am writing dodgy code, but when it comes to checking my fixes back into source control, it all goes wrong. I am regularly doing stupid things like : forgetting to add new files accidentally checking in code for a half fixed bug along with another bug fix forgetting to save the files in VS before checking them in I need to develop some habits / tools to stop this. What do you regularly do to ensure the code you check in is correct and is what needs to go in? Edit I forgot to mention that things can get pretty chaotic in this place. I quite often have two or three things that Im working on in the same code base at any one time. When I check in I will only really want to check in one of those things.

I start with extract the image's RGB values, form a matrix of array and then attempt to compress the values using PCA, and then match/recognize it with a pre-set data to find its similarity.   I'm planning on creating a C# Windows Forms app as an extension for a third-party Win32 application but I'm stumped as to how to do this right now. The farthest I've gotten is knowing it involves Win32 Hooking and that there's this open source project called EasyHook that's supposed to allow me to do this. I'd like to know how I can get the text from a textbox or some other data from a control in a third-party Win32 application. The text/data in a control is to be captured from the external application's running window the moment the user presses a button. I guess the question can be summed up as follows: How do you determine the event to hook to when the user clicks a certain button? How do you get the value displayed by a Win32 control at the time the button is clicked?

  I am looking at open source queuing platforms that allow me do the following: I have multiple producers, multiple consumers putting data into a queue in a multithreaded environment with the specific use case: I want the ability for consumers to be able do the following Peek at a message from the queue(which should mark as the message as invisible on the queue so that other consumers cannot consume the same message) The consumer works on the message consumed and if it is able to do the work successfully, it marks the message as consumed which should permanently delete it from the queue. If the consumer dies abruptly after marking the message as consumed or fails to acknowledge successful consumption after a certain timeout, the message is made visible on the queue again so that another consumer can pick it up. I've been looking at RabbitMQ, hornetQ, ActiveMQ but I'm not sure I can get this functionality out of the box, any recommendations on a system that gives me this functionality?

  Hi in my application there is web browser control to show some static html pages. The pages are displayed properly. but images are not displayed.. I tried with changing src-path but no success. my htmlpages folder is located at bin folder. And i am assigning it as. FileStream source = new FileStream(@"..\HtmlPages\supportHtml.html", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); if i open html files in browser, the images are displayed properly.. So, What is the correct path for images..?? If i set full path to src attribute of <img> tag..it works. but i think its not a proper way. :( EDIT: If i assign d:\myapp\bin\HtmlPages\support.gif then image is displayed. And if i assign "..\HtmlPages\support.gif" or "support.gif" image is not shown.

• Open Source sound engine

  When I started using SoundEngine (from CrashLanding and TouchFighter), I had read about a few people recommending not to use it, for it was, according to them, not stable enough. Still it was the only solution I knew of to play sounds with pitch and position control without learning C++ and OpenAL, so I ignored the warnings and went on with it. But now I'm starting to worry. The 2.2 SDK introduced AVFoundation. Using both SoundEngine from CrashLanding (for sounds) and AVAudioPlayer (for music), I found out SoundEngine behaves strangely when the only existing AVAudioPlayer is released (all sounds stop until a new AVAudioPlayer is initiated). Around the same time as the 2.2 SDK came out, the CrashLanding sample code was mysteriously removed from the ADC site. I'm worried there are more bad surprises to come. My question is, is anyone aware of an Open Source alternative to SoundEngine? Maybe even a C++ library that uses OpenAL?

  Hello, Most IDEs (Eclipse, Netbeans, Intelij) provide contextually smart suggestions about the current statement you're writing. We would like to do the same thing (In Java for Java). We considered tokenizing the input and building our own abstract syntax trees, but quickly realized that could be a month long project in and of its self. We also started digging through the source code for the above mentioned IDEs, but it appears (correct me if I'm wrong) that the auto-complete code is pretty tightly woven with the rest of the IDE. We're wondering if anyone knows of a relatively isolated package that we could pull into our project to provide this auto-complete functionality. Thanks!

• XSLT workflow with variable number of source files

  I have a bunch of XML files with a fixed, country-based naming schema: report_en.xml, report_de.xml, report_fr.xml, etc. Now I want to write an XSLT style sheet that reads each of these files via the document() XPath function, extracts some values and generates one XML files with a summary. My question is: How can I iterate over the source files without knowing the exact names of the files I will process? At the moment I'm planning to generate an auxiliary XML file that holds all the file names and use the auxiliary XML file in my stylesheet to iterate. The the file list will be generated with a small PHP or bash script. Are there better alternatives? I am aware of XProc, but investing much time into it is not an option for me at the moment. Maybe someone can post an XProc solution. Preferably the solution includes workflow steps where the reports are downloaded as HTML and tidied up :) I will be using Saxon as my XSLT processor, so if there are Saxon-specific extensions I can use, these would also be OK.

• Use a folder of xml files as data source for nhibernate

  I'm going to start writing NUnit tests for a few classes in my project. A certain number of these classes use data gathered through nhibernate from a sql server 2008 database. The part of the program I'm about to test is very specific (and complicated). Therefore I have made a folder of xml files. Combined, the xml files could result in the database structure. I mean each xml file corresponds to a table in the database. The data in the xml files is also consistent with the database. Is there a way to use this folder of xml files as data source for nhibernate? I mean: can I use nhibernate to gather my test data (wich I have specifically chosen) instead of data from the database? In this way, I could usefully test this component without corrrupting the (test) database for future tests.

• Generate markdown from source code doc-comments

  Is there any easy way to generate markdown from source code comments? I'm looking for something similar to Sandcastle, but with Markdown (or something like it) as output. The full story is that I use DokuWiki to generate documentation. It has many nice properties, including that all its data is stored in text files. So my idea is that I should somehow be able to get my API docs into the same place as the rest of my documentation. So far my best bet seems to be to write a custom documenter for NDoc3, but perhaps someone has already done something similar which would save me the trouble. I realize I might need to tweak it a little due to slight syntax differences.

  I know there are a few apps that allow a jail broken iPhone to tether over WiFi to a computer so the computer can use the iPhone's 3G. What I want to know is if anyone knows of any open source apps that do this, or partial code to handle the majority of this that I could make in to a minimal app? I don't want to jail break since I do official development, but would like to be able to compile and sideload an app on my personal phone to do this. Even without jail broken privileges an app could use an existing wifi connection (adhoc created by the computer) to share its 3G.

  Hi, I`m starting with PyQt4 and right now I have a problem with events. I have one main class let say MainWindow. MainWindow has a list of buttons of type ButtonX (inherence form QPushButton). I would like to achieve one of 2 solutions (depends which is easier). 1) After click one of the button from the list I would like to run a one method of MainWindow. I would like to be able to read a source of event there (recognize clicked button) 2) Second solution is to run a method defined in ButtonX class.   Using javascript, I need to parse the Content-Type text/html portion of an email message and extract just the HTML part. Here's an example of the part of the mail source in question: ------=_Part_1504541_510475628.1327512846983 Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit <html ... a bunch of html ... /html> I want to extract everything between (and including) the <html> tags after text/html. How do I do this? NOTE: I'm OK with a hacky regex. I don't expect this to be bulletproof.

• flex open source sdk compile error of samples on linux

  I downloaded lastest version of flex open source sdk. I wanted to compile some samples specifically explorer example. At first build.sh gave me weird error and with little search I nailed it by converting all bash files and mxml files with dos2unix. It is file type error. However now I get this error ./build.sh Error: Could not resolve <mx:Script> to a component implementation. <mx:Script> When I execute build.sh, some of the samples give this weird error. I searched this error on the net, their solution is to add -Duser.language=en -Duser.region=US as jre parameters. However, this solution is for Turkish Windows XP. My system is Pardus, yet another linux distribution.

  Hi I'm about to release some software as open source. It uses Lucene (Apache license) and jopt simple (MIT license). Are there any constraints on the license that I am going to apply to my own software? In particular, it is an adaptation of Lucene for performing content-based search on audio (so, many classes are inherited and in one case copied with a little modification). It only uses jopt simple for handling command line arguments (i.e. no modification at all, just "import" and "new OptionParser..."). Thanks for your help Nicola Montecchio
