  • RAILS :"session contains objects whose class definition isn\'t available."

    - by Surya
    Session contains objects whose class definition isn\'t available. Remember to require the classes for all objects kept in the session I am trying to integrate http://github.com/binarylogic/authlogic for authentication into my rails application . I follwed all the steps into mentioned in the documentation . Now i seem to be getting this error when i hit a controller . Looks like i am missing something obvious . stacktrace /Library/Ruby/Gems/1.8/gems/actionpack-2.3.5/lib/action_controller/session/abstract_store.rb:77:in `stale_session_check!' • Diagramming Software for a Developer/Designer

    - by Craig Walker
    For a long time I've been looking for a good diagramming/vector-based drawing program that meets my needs as a developer. I'd like to: Draw database diagrams Draw flow charts Draw object-modeling diagrams (UML being the standard) Draw other free-form diagrams (basically boxes & arrows with the occasional clipart) Draw mockups of user interfaces and web pages EDIT: I want good-looking electronic-format diagrams that I can show to 3rd parties, not just something for my own internal use. EDIT 2: I'm also looking for Windows software, although I'm toying with the idea of switching to Mac, so a really good Mac-only product might get me to switch. Basically I need a good vector graphic program (with decent grouping, connecting lines, and ideally auto-routing). I'd prefer a diagramming tool that can also be used for drawing (for the UI mockups) rather than a drawing tool that can also be used for diagrams. I've tried Visio on several occasions, and every time I've been disappointed. The interface always seems to get in my way at some point. It's pretty close to what I want, and the latest version (I got the trail from MS) seems to be better than previous ones in terms of usability, but I really don't want to plunk down that sort of cash for a mediocre product. I've tried Dia and Inkscape, and while initially promising and with the right price tag, I found both of them to be lacking in several ways (including some recurring bugs). I've toyed with getting Adobe Illustrator, but I've never used it before, and I have a feeling that it wouldn't handle the diagramming aspect very well, and I don't want to buy a copy just to find out it doesn't meet my needs. So far, the product that I've had the most success with is, sadly, OpenOffice Draw. It's free of course (which lowers my expectations and thus improves my view of it) and its usability is pretty good, but in the end I'd like something more suited to diagramming. I'm willing to spend real money (in the $500-$1K range) for a really good piece of software if it does everything I want it to. The front runner is of course Visio but I'm hoping for more. Does anybody have any recommendations? CONCLUSION: @dlamblin had the most informative post, but the part I gained the most from was his/her (and others) mention of OmniGraffle, not Gliffy. I gave Gliffy a try, and it seemed neet for occational use, but since it's a Flash app (note: not AJAX as dlamblin mentioned) it's still a bit of a pain to use (no keyboard shortcuts for copy/paste was pretty much a deal breaker for me). I also tried SmartDraw, but it had 3-strikes-you're-out against it: The trial period was only 7 days long. It used some nonstandard (and visually jarring) GUI widget toolkit for its UI. At the very least it makes me suspicious (how do I know it will actually work & support the standard Windows features?) It crashed on me early into my trial. OmniGraffle looks like exactly what I want... except that it's Mac-only (so I couldn't give it a try). However, it got good reviews from my Mac-owning coworker, and I hope to try it on a friend's Mac soon. If it's good enough then I might spring for a new MacBook.

  • People Picker can't find Forms Authentication Users in WSS 3.0

    - by beyti
    I used a lot of tutorials to turn my windows authenticated default wss web app to use Forms Authentication. What I've done since; 1. created a web app. and a site in wss 3.0. Made its anonymous access enabled for all site content. This wss app is in the "wss3" server. 2. created a membership db with regsql.exe in .net framework folder.Created it with its default settings, like aspnetdb named database.This db is in the "sqlserver" server. 3. gave db.owner permission to the web app. admin of wss to the aspnetdb database. The user is registered under the same domain as the sql and the wss machines. 4. configured site's web.config file with following changes/adds: ..added the connectionString: <connectionStrings> <clear /> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="server=sqlserver;database=aspnetdb; Integrated Security=SSPI" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> ..added the membershipProvider: <membership> <providers> <add name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider, System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" connectionStringName="LocalSqlServer" enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="true" requiresQuestionAndAnswer="true" applicationName="/" requiresUniqueEmail="false" passwordFormat="Hashed" maxInvalidPasswordAttempts="5" minRequiredPasswordLength="7" minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="1" passwordAttemptWindow="10" passwordStrengthRegularExpression="" /> </providers> </membership> ..also checked the peoplepicker settings: <PeoplePickerWildcards> <clear /> <add key="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" value="%" /> </PeoplePickerWildcards> 5. After all, I changed the application provider of the site I created to use forms. Gave it the provider name of "AspNetSqlMembershipProvider". 6. I've created some users for Forms Authentication via ASP.net Configuration page by visual studio. 7. Checked the users in the db aspnetdb. They are there. 8. Tried to login to wss with one of them. Successfully logged in. With no privilages ofcourse. 9. Tried to give permission via Web Application Policy to that user which logged in. 10. People Picker couldn't find it at all. Any of the forms users couldn't be found. But it clearly tells that AD connection is also changed that none of the AD users couldn't be found either. It seems I'm missing something to configure about people picker. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Beytan

  • Error when pushing to Heroku - StatementInvalid - Ruby on Rails

    - by bgadoci
    I am trying to deploy my first rails app to Heroku and seem to be having a problem. After git push heroku master I get an error saying that relation "tags does not exist. I understand that without knowledge of my application it will be hard to help but I am wondering if someone can point me in the right direction. I have checked the schema.rb file and also been over all my migrations and there doesn't seem to be a problem there. The error message lead me to believe that I left something out of my routes.rb file but can't seem to find anything there either. Perhaps just some help deciphering this message. • NullPointerException in ItemizedOverlay.getIndexToDraw

    - by lyricsboy
    I have a relatively simple MapActivity that I'm trying to make display a list of "camps" within a given map region. I've created a custom subclass of OverlayItem called CampOverlayItem, a custom ItemizedOverlay called CampsOverlay that returns CampOverlayItems, and of course a MapActivity subclass that populates the map. I'm pulling the overlay data from a database using an AsyncTask as created in my activity. The AsyncTask is triggered from a ViewTreeObserver.OnGlobalLayoutListener attached to the MapView. In the onPostExecute method of the AsyncTask, I create a new instance of my CampsOverlay class and pass it a list of the camps returned from the database (which are fetched in doInBackground). I then call: mapView.getOverlays().add(newOverlay); where newOverlay is the CampsOverlay I just created. All of this code runs without error, but when the Map tries to draw itself, I get a NullPointerException with the following stack trace: java.lang.NullPointerException at com.google.android.maps.ItemizedOverlay.getIndexToDraw(ItemizedOverlay.java: 211) at com.google.android.maps.ItemizedOverlay.draw(ItemizedOverlay.java:240) at com.google.android.maps.Overlay.draw(Overlay.java:179) at com.google.android.maps.OverlayBundle.draw(OverlayBundle.java: 42) at com.google.android.maps.MapView.onDraw(MapView.java:476) at android.view.View.draw(View.java:6274) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1526) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1256) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1524) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1256) at android.view.View.draw(View.java:6277) at android.widget.FrameLayout.draw(FrameLayout.java:352) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1526) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1256) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1524) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1256) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1524) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1256) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1524) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1256) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1524) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1256) at android.view.View.draw(View.java:6277) at android.widget.FrameLayout.draw(FrameLayout.java:352) at android.view.ViewGroup.drawChild(ViewGroup.java:1526) at android.view.ViewGroup.dispatchDraw(ViewGroup.java:1256) at android.view.View.draw(View.java:6277) at android.widget.FrameLayout.draw(FrameLayout.java:352) at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow $DecorView.draw(PhoneWindow.java:1883) at android.view.ViewRoot.draw(ViewRoot.java:1332) at android.view.ViewRoot.performTraversals(ViewRoot.java:1097) at android.view.ViewRoot.handleMessage(ViewRoot.java:1613) at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4203) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit $MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:791) at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:549) at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) Because it seems particularly relevant, here is the code for my ItemizedOverlay subclass: public class CampsOverlay extends ItemizedOverlay<CampOverlayItem> { private ArrayList<Camp> camps = null; public CampsOverlay(Drawable defaultMarker, ArrayList<Camp> theCamps) { super(defaultMarker); this.camps = theCamps; } @Override protected CampOverlayItem createItem(int i) { Camp camp = camps.get(i); CampOverlayItem item = new CampOverlayItem(camp); return item; } @Override protected boolean onTap(int index) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return super.onTap(index); } @Override public int size() { return camps.size(); } } Does anyone have any idea what could be happening here? I've attempted to verify that everything I have control over is non-null. I can provide more code if necessary.

  • MVC Page not showing up, 404 not found

    - by mwright
    I have a very simple MVC site that is returning a 404 not found error when trying to load a page at the very beginning. I'm looking for some direction to troubleshoot this problem since there is really nothing to go on from the error message. The error I'm getting is: Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. Requested URL: /Views/Other/Index.aspx Below I have included the code for the various pieces, routing rules are default: routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional} // Parameter defaults ); The site is using nested MasterPages, not sure if this is involved with the problem but trying to include as much detail as possible. I have: Controllers OtherController Views: Shared Folder: Site.Master Other Folder: Other.Master Index.aspx Site.Master Code: <%@ Master Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewMasterPage" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head runat="server"> <title> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="TitleContent" runat="server" /> </title> </head> <body> <div> <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="MainContent" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> </div> </body> </html> Other.Master Code: <%@ Master Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewMasterPage" %> <asp:Content ID="OtherTitle" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> OTHER PAGE - MASTER TITLE <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="OtherPageTitle" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="OtherContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> Some other content. <asp:ContentPlaceHolder ID="PageContent" runat="server"> </asp:ContentPlaceHolder> </asp:Content> Index.aspx Code: <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Other/Other.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage" %> <asp:Content ID="IndexTitle" ContentPlaceHolderID="OtherTitle" runat="server"> Home </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="IndexContent" ContentPlaceHolderID="OtherContent" runat="server"> Index content </asp:Content> OtherController Code namespace MVCProject.Controllers { public class OtherController : Controller { // // GET: /Member/ public ActionResult Index() { // Have also tried: // return View("Index", "Other.Master"); return View(); } } }

  • Code Access Security and Sharepoint WebParts

    - by Gordon Carpenter-Thompson
    I've got a vague handle on how Code Access Security works in Sharepoint. I have developed a custom webpart and setup a CAS policy in my Manifest <CodeAccessSecurity> <PolicyItem> <PermissionSet class="NamedPermissionSet" version="1" Description="Permission set for Okana"> <IPermission class="Microsoft.SharePoint.Security.SharePointPermission, Microsoft.SharePoint.Security, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" version="1" ObjectModel="True" Impersonate="True" /> <IPermission class="SecurityPermission" version="1" Flags="Assertion, Execution, ControlThread, ControlPrincipal, RemotingConfiguration" /> <IPermission class="AspNetHostingPermission" version="1" Level="Medium" /> <IPermission class="DnsPermission" version="1" Unrestricted="true" /> <IPermission class="EventLogPermission" version="1" Unrestricted="true"> <Machine name="localhost" access="Administer" /> </IPermission> <IPermission class="EnvironmentPermission" version="1" Unrestricted="true" /> <IPermission class="System.Configuration.ConfigurationPermission, System.Configuration, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" version="1" Unrestricted="true"/> <IPermission class="System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" version="1" Unrestricted="true" /> <IPermission class="System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" Unrestricted="true" /> <IPermission class="System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" version="1" Unrestricted="true" PathDiscovery="*AllFiles*" /> <IPermission class="IsolatedStorageFilePermission" version="1" Allowed="AssemblyIsolationByUser" UserQuota="9223372036854775807" /> <IPermission class="PrintingPermission" version="1" Level="DefaultPrinting" /> <IPermission class="PerformanceCounterPermission" version="1"> <Machine name="localhost"> <Category name="Enterprise Library Caching Counters" access="Write"/> <Category name="Enterprise Library Cryptography Counters" access="Write"/> <Category name="Enterprise Library Data Counters" access="Write"/> <Category name="Enterprise Library Exception Handling Counters" access="Write"/> <Category name="Enterprise Library Logging Counters" access="Write"/> <Category name="Enterprise Library Security Counters" access="Write"/> </Machine> </IPermission> <IPermission class="ReflectionPermission" version="1" Unrestricted="true"/> <IPermission class="SecurityPermission" version="1" Flags="SerializationFormatter, UnmanagedCode, Infrastructure, Assertion, Execution, ControlThread, ControlPrincipal, RemotingConfiguration, ControlAppDomain,ControlDomainPolicy" /> <IPermission class="SharePointPermission" version="1" ObjectModel="True" /> <IPermission class="SmtpPermission" version="1" Access="Connect" /> <IPermission class="SqlClientPermission" version="1" Unrestricted="true"/> <IPermission class="WebPartPermission" version="1" Connections="True" /> <IPermission class="WebPermission" version="1"> <ConnectAccess> <URI uri="$OriginHost$"/> </ConnectAccess> </IPermission> </PermissionSet> <Assemblies> .... </Assemblies> This is correctly converted into a wss_custom_wss_minimaltrust.config when it is deployed onto the Sharepoint server and mostly works. To get the WebPart working fully, however I find that I need to modify the wss_custom_wss_minimaltrust.config by hand after deployment and set Unrestricted="true" on the permissions set <PermissionSet class="NamedPermissionSet" version="1" Description="Permission set for MyApp" Name="mywebparts.wsp-86d8cae1-7db2-4057-8c17-dc551adb17a2-1"> to <PermissionSet class="NamedPermissionSet" version="1" Description="Permission set for MyApp" Name="mywebparts.wsp-86d8cae1-7db2-4057-8c17-dc551adb17a2-1" Unrestricted="true"> It's all because I'm loading a User Control from the webpart. I don't believe there is a way to enable that using CAS but am willing to be proven wrong. Is there a way to set something in the manifest so I don't need to make this fix by hand? Thanks

What I am trying to do is to reproduce the html inside Ember.View.render, but I would like to reuse as much Ember functionality as possible. Specifically, I would like to reuse the {{#linkTo ...}} helper, with two goals: Reuse existing html rendering implemented in the {{#linkTo ...}} helper Get the same routing support that using the {{#linkTo ...}} in a template provides. How can I call this helper from within javascript code? This is my first (incomplete) attempt. The template: {{view SettingsApp.NavigationView}} And the view: var trans = Ember.I18n.t; var MAIN_MENU = [ { 'linkTo' : 'nodes', 'i-class' : 'icon-cloud', 'txt' : trans('generic.nodes') }, { 'linkTo' : 'services', 'i-class' : 'icon-phone', 'txt' : trans('generic.services') }, ]; function getNavIcon (data) { var linkTo = data.linkTo, i_class = data['i-class'], txt = data.txt; var html = '<i class="icon-fixed-width icon-2x ' + i_class + '"></i>&nbsp;&nbsp;' + txt; return html; } SettingsApp.NavigationView = Ember.View.extend({ menu : MAIN_MENU, render: function(buffer) { for (var i=0, l=this.menu.length; i<l; i++) { var data = this.menu[i]; // TODO: call the ember function implementing the {{#linkTo ...}} helper buffer.push(getNavIcon(data)); } return buffer; } });

  • NPE when drawing TabWidget in android (only on HTC Magic?)

    - by David Hedlund
    I've received report from the user of an app I've written that he gets FC whenever starting a certain activity. I have not been able to reproduce the issue on the emulator or on my HTC Hero (running 1.5), but this user running HTC Magic (with 1.6) is facing this error every time. It's quite verbose, so I'm posting it here, rather than pasting the whole thing on SO. There is a tabwidget, where one tab is connected to the scrollview, svFilmInfo, and one to the linear layout llComments. The tab host is populated as such: Drawable commentSelector = getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.tabcomment); Drawable infoSelector = getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.tabinfo); mTabHost = getTabHost(); mTabHost.getTabWidget().setBackgroundColor(Color.BLACK); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tabInfo").setIndicator("Filminfo", infoSelector).setContent(R.id.svFilmInfo)); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tabInfo").setIndicator("Kommentarer", commentSelector).setContent(R.id.llComments)); Since I cannot reproduce the error myself, and since I cannot find any mention in the stack trace of what might be causing the error, I don't quite know where to start troubleshooting this. I'd appreciate any pointers.

  • Error When Loading Images on Local Host Test Server

    - by ke4ktz
    I have a peculiar problem that I just can't seem to find an explanation. I'm working on an AngularJS site for our family and am integrating data from various web services. Currently I am working on the photos section which will integrate in photos from our Flickr account. I have a main page which lists the various photo sets and displays the set's primary photo along with the title. (Note: I'm using the Flickr 'extras' parameter to return the primary photo's URL in the API calls.) <div data-ng-repeat="p in vm.photoSets"> <a ng-href="#/photos/{{p.id}}"> <img ng-src="{{p.primary_photo_extras.url_s}}"></img> </a> <h4>{{p.title._content}}</h4> </div> When clicking on the photo, the routing will display a page with a list of all the photos from that set, showing the image and the title. <div data-ng-repeat="p in vm.photoSetData.photo"> <a ng-href="#/photos/{{vm.photoSetId}}/{{p.id}}" <img ng-src="{{p.url_s}}"></img> </a> <h4>{{p.title}}</h4> </div> Now, here's where the problem is occuring. When I upload the code to my public website on my hosting provider, everything works just fine. Both pages display their respective photos. However, when I attempt to run the site on my local system, either in MAMP or NodeJS (using http-server), the second page gives me an error for each image: Error: [$interpolate:interr] Can't interpolate: {{p.url_s}} Error: [$sce:insecurl] Blocked loading resource from url not allowed by $sceDelegate policy. In fact, the image title does display! I've tested it with Firefox, Safari and Chrome...all three browsers fail. I cannot find any explanation as to why it would work remotely but fail locally. Also, the images show up on the first page, but not on the second, even though one of the images on the second page is the same image URL as on the first page. Even going directly to the second page, bypassing the first page, still fails. Any ideas on how to fix this? It would be nice to test locally without having to upload to the server each time I make a change. Update: I have shut off the $sce security to see if that was causing the issue. Although it resulted in turning the error off, the files still don't load on the local test server. I have used the developer tools' network monitor and it doesn't even show an attempt to retrieve the files. AngularJS appears to shut down the retrieval, although the correct path shows up in the DOM.

  • Broken corba object references

    - by cube
    I'm working on a homework and got stuck. The task is to serve objects using a default servant. But when I try to use the reference, weird things happen. Some part of corba prints a stack trace, but no exception is thrown. The problem happens when the server receives the reference and should call some method on it. The reference is then shortened and doesn't contain the object ID (which means that my servant implementation can't do anything reasonable). This is the implementation of the servant, where the problem appears: public class ModelFileImpl extends ModelFilePOA{ @Override public String getName() { try { return new String(_poa().reference_to_id(_this_object())); } catch (Throwable e) {} assert false; return null; } } If I take _this_object().toString() inside the try block and put it into dior -i i get this: ------IOR components----- TypeId : IDL:termproject/idl/ModelFile:1.0 TAG_INTERNET_IOP Profiles: Profile Id: 0 IIOP Version: 1.2 Host: 127.0.0.1 Port: 45954 Object key (URL): %AF%AB%CB%00%00%00%00%20Q%BA%F4%FF%00%00%00%01%00%00%00%00%00%00%00%01%0000%00%08RootPOA%00%00%00%00%08%00%00%00%02%00%00%00%00%14 Object key (hex): 0xAF AB CB 00 00 00 00 20 51 BA F4 FF 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 08 52 6F 6F 74 50 4F 41 00 00 00 00 08 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 14 -- Found 2 Tagged Components-- #0: TAG_CODE_SETS ForChar native code set Id: ISO8859_1 Char Conversion Code Sets: UTF8 , Unknown TCS: 10020 ForWChar native code set Id: UTF16 WChar Conversion Code Sets: Unknown TCS: 10100 Unknown tag : 38 however the part of server that makes the reference and the client see the reference as ------IOR components----- TypeId : IDL:termproject/idl/ModelFile:1.0 TAG_INTERNET_IOP Profiles: Profile Id: 0 IIOP Version: 1.2 Host: 127.0.0.1 Port: 45954 Object key (URL): %AF%AB%CB%00%00%00%00%20Q%BA%F4%FF%00%00%00%01%00%00%00%00%00%00%00%02%00%00%00%08RootPOA%00%00%00%00%09modelPoa%00%00%00%00%00%00%00%10testModel1.MyIDL%14 Object key (hex): 0xAF AB CB 00 00 00 00 20 51 BA F4 FF 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 08 52 6F 6F 74 50 4F 41 00 00 00 00 09 6D 6F 64 65 6C 50 6F 61 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 74 65 73 74 4D 6F 64 65 6C 31 2E 4D 79 49 44 4C 14 -- Found 2 Tagged Components-- #0: TAG_CODE_SETS ForChar native code set Id: ISO8859_1 Char Conversion Code Sets: UTF8 , Unknown TCS: 10020 ForWChar native code set Id: UTF16 WChar Conversion Code Sets: Unknown TCS: 10100 Unknown tag : 38 ("modelPoa" (the name of the poa working with default clients) and "testModel1.MyIDL" (the identifier of the object) in the object key are missing in the first one) I've tried sniffing the traffic and found out that the client still sends the correct reference. • RackSpace Cloud Strips $_SESSION if URL Has Certain File Extensions

    - by macinjosh
    The Situation I am creating a video training site for a client on the RackSpace Cloud using the traditional LAMP stack (RackSpace's cloud has both Windows and LAMP stacks). The videos and other media files I'm serving on this site need to be protected as my client charges money for access to them. There is no DRM or funny business like that, essentially we store the files outside of the web root and use PHP to authenticate user's before they are able to access the files by using mod_rewrite to run the request through PHP. So let's say the user requests a file at this URL: http://www.example.com/uploads/preview_image/29.jpg I am using mod_rewrite to rewrite that url to: http://www.example.com/files.php?path=%2Fuploads%2Fpreview_image%2F29.jpg Here is a simplified version of the files.php script: <?php // Setups the environment and sets $logged_in // This part requires $_SESSION require_once('../../includes/user_config.php'); if (!$logged_in) { // Redirect non-authenticated users header('Location: login.php'); } // This user is authenticated, continue $content_type = "image/jpeg"; // getAbsolutePathForRequestedResource() takes // a Query Parameter called path and uses DB // lookups and some string manipulation to get // an absolute path. This part doesn't have // any bearing on the problem at hand $file_path = getAbsolutePathForRequestedResource($_GET['path']); // At this point $file_path looks something like // this: "/path/to/a/place/outside/the/webroot" if (file_exists($file_path) && !is_dir($file_path)) { header("Content-Type: $content_type"); header('Content-Length: ' . filesize($file_path)); echo file_get_contents($file_path); } else { header('HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found'); header('Status: 404 Not Found'); echo '404 Not Found'; } exit(); ?> The Problem Let me start by saying this works perfectly for me. On local test machines it works like a charm. However once deployed to the cloud it stops working. After some debugging it turns out that if a request to the cloud has certain file extensions like .JPG, .PNG, or .SWF (i.e. extensions of typically static media files.) the request is routed to a cache system called Varnish. The end result of this routing is that by the time this whole process makes it to my PHP script the session is not present. If I change the extension in the URL to .PHP or if I even add a query parameter Varnish is bypassed and the PHP script can get the session. No problem right? I'll just add a meaningless query parameter to my requests! Here is the rub: The media files I am serving through this system are being requested through compiled SWF files that I have zero control over. They are generated by third-party software and I have no hope of adding or changing the URLs that they request. Are there any other options I have on this? Update: I should note that I have verified this behavior with RackSpace support and they have said there is nothing they can do about it.

  • Simple Detached pThread does not cancel! (cout blocks and interleaves even if mutexed)

    - by Gabriel
    I have a hard problem here, which I can not solve and do not find the right answer on the net: I have created a detached thread with a clean up routing, the problem is that on my Imac and Ubuntu 9.1 (Dual Core). I am not able to correctly cancel the detached thread in the fallowing code: #include <iostream> #include <pthread.h> #include <sched.h> #include <signal.h> #include <time.h> pthread_mutex_t mutex_t; using namespace std; static void cleanup(void *arg){ pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << " doing clean up"<<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); } static void *thread(void *aArgument) { pthread_setcancelstate(PTHREAD_CANCEL_ENABLE,NULL); pthread_setcanceltype(PTHREAD_CANCEL_DEFERRED,NULL); pthread_cleanup_push(&cleanup,NULL); int n=0; while(1){ pthread_testcancel(); sched_yield(); n++; pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << " Thread 2: "<< n<<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); } pthread_cleanup_pop(0); return NULL; } int main() { pthread_t thread_id; pthread_attr_t attr; pthread_attr_init(&attr); pthread_attr_setdetachstate(&attr,PTHREAD_CREATE_DETACHED); int error; if (pthread_mutex_init(&mutex_t,NULL) != 0) return 1; if (pthread_create(&thread_id, &attr, &(thread) , NULL) != 0) return 1; pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << "waiting 1s for thread...\n" <<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); int n =0; while(n<1E3){ pthread_testcancel(); sched_yield(); n++; pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << " Thread 1: "<< n<<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); } pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << "canceling thread...\n" <<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); if (pthread_cancel(thread_id) == 0) { //This doesn't wait for the thread to exit pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << "detaching thread...\n"<<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); pthread_detach(thread_id); while (pthread_kill(thread_id,0)==0) { sched_yield(); } pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << "thread is canceled"; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); } pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << "exit"<<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); return 0; } When I replace the Cout with printf() i workes to the end "exit" , but with the cout (even locked) the executable hangs after outputting "detaching thread... It would be very cool to know from a Pro, what the problem here is?. Why does this not work even when cout is locked by a mutex!? Thanks a lot for your support!!

  • Performance issues with jms and spring integration. What is wrong with the following configuration?

    - by user358448
    I have a jms producer, which generates many messages per second, which are sent to amq persistent queue and are consumed by single consumer, which needs to process them sequentially. But it seems that the producer is much faster than the consumer and i am having performance and memory problems. Messages are fetched very very slowly and the consuming seems to happen on intervals (the consumer "asks" for messages in polling fashion, which is strange?!) Basically everything happens with spring integration. Here is the configuration at the producer side. First stake messages come in stakesInMemoryChannel, from there, they are filtered throw the filteredStakesChannel and from there they are going into the jms queue (using executor so the sending will happen in separate thread) <bean id="stakesQueue" class="org.apache.activemq.command.ActiveMQQueue"> <constructor-arg name="name" value="${jms.stakes.queue.name}" /> </bean> <int:channel id="stakesInMemoryChannel" /> <int:channel id="filteredStakesChannel" > <int:dispatcher task-executor="taskExecutor"/> </int:channel> <bean id="stakeFilterService" class="cayetano.games.stake.StakeFilterService"/> <int:filter input-channel="stakesInMemoryChannel" output-channel="filteredStakesChannel" throw-exception-on-rejection="false" expression="true"/> <jms:outbound-channel-adapter channel="filteredStakesChannel" destination="stakesQueue" delivery-persistent="true" explicit-qos-enabled="true" /> <task:executor id="taskExecutor" pool-size="100" /> The other application is consuming the messages like this... The messages come in stakesInputChannel from the jms stakesQueue, after that they are routed to 2 separate channels, one persists the message and the other do some other stuff, lets call it "processing". <bean id="stakesQueue" class="org.apache.activemq.command.ActiveMQQueue"> <constructor-arg name="name" value="${jms.stakes.queue.name}" /> </bean> <jms:message-driven-channel-adapter channel="stakesInputChannel" destination="stakesQueue" acknowledge="auto" concurrent-consumers="1" max-concurrent-consumers="1" /> <int:publish-subscribe-channel id="stakesInputChannel" /> <int:channel id="persistStakesChannel" /> <int:channel id="processStakesChannel" /> <int:recipient-list-router id="customRouter" input-channel="stakesInputChannel" timeout="3000" ignore-send-failures="true" apply-sequence="true" > <int:recipient channel="persistStakesChannel"/> <int:recipient channel="processStakesChannel"/> </int:recipient-list-router> <bean id="prefetchPolicy" class="org.apache.activemq.ActiveMQPrefetchPolicy"> <property name="queuePrefetch" value="${jms.broker.prefetch.policy}" /> </bean> <bean id="connectionFactory" class="org.springframework.jms.connection.CachingConnectionFactory"> <property name="targetConnectionFactory"> <bean class="org.apache.activemq.ActiveMQConnectionFactory"> <property name="brokerURL" value="${jms.broker.url}" /> <property name="prefetchPolicy" ref="prefetchPolicy" /> <property name="optimizeAcknowledge" value="true" /> <property name="useAsyncSend" value="true" /> </bean> </property> <property name="sessionCacheSize" value="10"/> <property name="cacheProducers" value="false"/> </bean>

  • "Could not establish secure channel for SSL/TLS" in .NET CF application on smart phone

    - by Stefan Mohr
    I have a stubborn communications issue with an application running on the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 on Windows Mobile smartphones. I am constructing a web request using this code: UTF8Encoding encoding = new System.Text.UTF8Encoding(); byte[] Data = encoding.GetBytes(HttpUtility.ConstructQueryString(parameters)); httpRequest = WebRequest.Create((domain)) as HttpWebRequest; httpRequest.Timeout = 10000000; httpRequest.ReadWriteTimeout = 10000000; httpRequest.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; httpRequest.Method = "POST"; httpRequest.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; httpRequest.ContentLength = Data.Length; Stream SendReq = httpRequest.GetRequestStream(); SendReq.Write(Data, 0, Data.Length); SendReq.Close(); HttpWebResponse httpResponse = (HttpWebResponse)httpRequest.GetResponse(); return httpResponse.GetResponseStream(); The web service functions by receiving a JSON-encoded document as part of the URL (eg. https://site.com/ws/sync??document={"version":"1.0.0","items":[{"item_1":"item1"}]}&user=usr&password=pw), and as a response receives another JSON document as response data. This code runs fine on all emulators and PDAs running WM 5 and 6. We have seen an issue with a couple of customers running Treo smartphones (and only on the Sprint network). We have tested the code on an identical device on the AT&T network (via DeviceAnywhere) and once again the code worked as we expected. This has to be some sort of security policy on the phone, but we've been unable to determine a workaround or diagnose it thoroughly as we cannot reproduce it in house and have had to resort to getting users to assist with running test drivers for us. When this code executes, the user's device throws the following exception: System.Net.WebException Could not establish secure channel for SSL/TLS Stack trace: at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.finishGetRequestStream() at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream() at OurApp.GetResponseStream(String domain, Hashtable parameters) inner exception: System.IO.IOException Authentication failed because the remote party has closed the transport stream. Stack trace: at System.Net.SslConnectionState.ClientSideHandshake() at System.Net.SslConnectionState.PerformClientHandShake() at System.Net.Connection.connect(Object ignored) at System.Threading.ThreadPool.WorkItem.doWork(Object o) at System.Threading.Timer.ring() Examining the server Apache logs shows no hits from the user's IP - I don't think the device is even attempting to send a packet before failing. If relevant, the server is running Apache on Linux and is written using the TurboGears Python framework. The server certificate is issued by a CA and is still valid. The test driver where this error was copied from was not code signed, however the same error (without the error messages) is signed with a GeoTrust certificate so we don't believe this is a code signing issue. The application installs and launches without issue on all phones - it's just establishing this SSL connection that is breaking for these users. One significant issue in troubleshooting is that there is a substantial inconvenience each time we try out a solution (need to find a "volunteer" customer), so we're really looking for a silver bullet or a better understanding of the handshaking process so we can be reasonably confident we only need to ask the user to test it one or two more times. One final mention: we have tried the sync both over ActiveSync and also over GPRS with identical results. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    I am developing a map application in android i have made maplocation class to pass latitude and longitude and using Json Array to fetch data from MYSQl to display in map.But When I run application it crashed unfortunantely here is my log cat 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{com.icons.draw.view/com.icons.draw.view.DrawIcons}: android.view.InflateException: Binary XML file line #6: Error inflating class com.icons.draw.view.LocationViewers 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:1647) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:1663) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$1500(ActivityThread.java:117) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:931) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:130) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3683) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:507) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:839) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:597) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): Caused by: android.view.InflateException: Binary XML file line #6: Error inflating class com.icons.draw.view.LocationViewers 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.view.LayoutInflater.createView(LayoutInflater.java:518) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.view.LayoutInflater.createViewFromTag(LayoutInflater.java:570) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.view.LayoutInflater.rInflate(LayoutInflater.java:623) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.view.LayoutInflater.inflate(LayoutInflater.java:408) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.view.LayoutInflater.inflate(LayoutInflater.java:320) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.view.LayoutInflater.inflate(LayoutInflater.java:276) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at com.android.internal.policy.impl.PhoneWindow.setContentView(PhoneWindow.java:207) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.app.Activity.setContentView(Activity.java:1657) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at com.icons.draw.view.DrawIcons.onCreate(DrawIcons.java:16) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.app.Instrumentation.callActivityOnCreate(Instrumentation.java:1047) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:1611) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): ... 11 more 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): Caused by: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.constructNative(Native Method) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at java.lang.reflect.Constructor.newInstance(Constructor.java:415) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at android.view.LayoutInflater.createView(LayoutInflater.java:505) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): ... 21 more 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at org.json.JSONTokener.nextCleanInternal(JSONTokener.java:112) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at org.json.JSONTokener.nextValue(JSONTokener.java:90) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at org.json.JSONArray.<init>(JSONArray.java:87) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at org.json.JSONArray.<init>(JSONArray.java:103) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at com.icons.draw.view.LocationViewers.getMapLocations(LocationViewers.java:102) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at com.icons.draw.view.LocationViewers.init(LocationViewers.java:65) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): at com.icons.draw.view.LocationViewers.<init>(LocationViewers.java:45) 07-07 14:02:26.423: E/AndroidRuntime(366): ... 24 more And Here is My JSOn Array and loop code to make markers double LAT;   • Receiving Multicast Messages on a Multihomed Windows PC

    - by Basti
    I'm developing a diagnostic tool on a PC with several Network Interfaces based on multicast/udp. The user can select a NIC, the application creates sockets, binds them to this NIC and adds them to the specific multicast group. The sending of multicast messages works fine. However receiving of messages only succeeds if I bind the sockets to a specific NIC of my PC. It almost looks like as there is a 'default' NIC for receiving multicast messages in Windows which is always the first NIC returned by the GetAdapterInfo function. I monitored the network with Wireshark and discovered that the "IGMP Join Group" message isn't sent from the NIC I bound the socket at, but by this 'default' NIC. If I disable this NIC (or remove the network cable), the next NIC of the list returned by GetAdapterInfo is used for receiving multicast messages. I was successful to change this 'default' NIC by adding an additional entry to the routing table of my PC, but I don't think this is a good solution of the problem. The problem also occurs with the code appended below. The join group messages isn't sent via 192.168.52 but via a different NIC. // socket_tst.cpp : Defines the entry point for the console application. // #include tchar.h #include winsock2.h #include ws2ipdef.h #include IpHlpApi.h #include IpTypes.h #include stdio.h int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { WSADATA m_wsaData; SOCKET m_socket; sockaddr_in m_sockAdr; UINT16 m_port = 319; u_long m_interfaceAdr = inet_addr("192.168.1.52"); u_long m_multicastAdr = inet_addr("224.0.0.107"); int returnValue = WSAStartup(MAKEWORD(2,2), &m_wsaData); if (returnValue != S_OK) { return returnValue; } // Create sockets if (INVALID_SOCKET == (m_socket = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, IPPROTO_UDP)) ) { return WSAGetLastError(); } int doreuseaddress = TRUE; if (setsockopt(m_socket,SOL_SOCKET,SO_REUSEADDR,(char*) &doreuseaddress,sizeof(doreuseaddress)) == SOCKET_ERROR) { return WSAGetLastError(); } // Configure socket addresses memset(&m_sockAdr,0,sizeof(m_sockAdr)); m_sockAdr.sin_family = AF_INET; m_sockAdr.sin_port = htons(m_port); m_sockAdr.sin_addr.s_addr = m_interfaceAdr; //bind sockets if ( bind( m_socket, (SOCKADDR*) &m_sockAdr, sizeof(m_sockAdr) ) == SOCKET_ERROR ) { return WSAGetLastError(); } // join multicast struct ip_mreq_source imr; memset(&imr,0,sizeof(imr)); imr.imr_multiaddr.s_addr = m_multicastAdr; // address of multicastgroup imr.imr_sourceaddr.s_addr = 0; // sourceaddress (not used) imr.imr_interface.s_addr = m_interfaceAdr; // interface address /* first join multicast group, then registerer selected interface as * multicast sending interface */ if( setsockopt( m_socket ,IPPROTO_IP ,IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP ,(char*) &imr , sizeof(imr)) == SOCKET_ERROR) { return SOCKET_ERROR; } else { if( setsockopt(m_socket ,IPPROTO_IP ,IP_MULTICAST_IF ,(CHAR*)&imr.imr_interface.s_addr ,sizeof(&imr.imr_interface.s_addr)) == SOCKET_ERROR ) { return SOCKET_ERROR; } } printf("receiving msgs...\n"); while(1) { // get inputbuffer from socket int sock_return = SOCKET_ERROR; sockaddr_in socketAddress; char buffer[1500]; int addressLength = sizeof(socketAddress); sock_return = recvfrom(m_socket, (char*) &buffer, 1500, 0, (SOCKADDR*)&socketAddress, &addressLength ); if( sock_return == SOCKET_ERROR) { int wsa_error = WSAGetLastError(); return wsa_error; } else { printf("got message!\n"); } } return 0; } Thanks four your help!

  • SOAP and NHibernate Session in C#

    - by Anonymous Coward
    In a set of SOAP web services the user is authenticated with custom SOAP header (username/password). Each time the user call a WS the following Auth method is called to authenticate and retrieve User object from NHibernate session: [...] public Services : Base { private User user; [...] public string myWS(string username, string password) { if( Auth(username, password) ) { [...] } } } public Base : WebService { protected static ISessionFactory sesFactory; protected static ISession session; static Base { Configuration conf = new Configuration(); [...] sesFactory = conf.BuildSessionFactory(); } private bool Auth(...) { session = sesFactory.OpenSession(); MembershipUser user = null; if (UserCredentials != null && Membership.ValidateUser(username, password)) { luser = Membership.GetUser(username); } ... try { user = (User)session.Get(typeof(User), luser.ProviderUserKey.ToString()); } catch { user = null; throw new [...] } return user != null; } } When the WS work is done the session is cleaned up nicely and everything works: the WSs create, modify and change objects and Nhibernate save them in the DB. The problems come when an user (same username/password) calls the same WS at same time from different clients (machines). The state of the saved objects are inconsistent. How do I manage the session correctly to avoid this? I searched and the documentation about Session management in NHibernate is really vast. Should I Lock over user object? Should I set up a "session share" management between WS calls from same user? Should I use Transaction in some savvy way? Thanks Update1 Yes, mSession is 'session'. Update2 Even with a non-static session object the data saved in the DB are inconsistent. The pattern I use to insert/save object is the following: var return_value = [...]; try { using(ITransaction tx = session.Transaction) { tx.Begin(); MyType obj = new MyType(); user.field = user.field - obj.field; // The fields names are i.e. but this is actually what happens. session.Save(user); session.Save(obj); tx.Commit(); return_value = obj.another_field; } } catch ([...]) { // Handling exceptions... } finally { // Clean up session.Flush(); session.Close(); } return return_value; All new objects (MyType) are correctly saved but the user.field status is not as I would expect. Even obj.another_field is correct (the field is an ID with generated=on-save policy). It is like 'user.field = user.field - obj.field;' is executed more times then necessary.

  • Bug Triage

    In this blog post brain dump, I'll attempt to describe the process my team tries to follow when dealing with new bug reports (specifically, code defect reports). This is not official Microsoft policy, just the way we do things… if you do things differently and want to share, you can do so at the bottom in the comments (or on your blog).Feature Triage TeamA subset of the feature crew, the triage team (which has representations from the PM, Dev and QA disciplines), looks at all unassigned bugs at regular intervals. This can be weekly or daily (or other frequency) dependent on which part of the product cycle we are in and what the untriaged bug load looks like. They discuss each bug considering the evidence and make a decision of whether the bug goes from Not Yet Assigned to Assigned (plus the name of the DEV to fix this) or whether it goes from Active to Resolved (which means it gets assigned back to the requestor for closure or further debate if they were not present at the triage meeting). Close to critical milestones, the feature triage team needs to further justify bugs they take to additional higher-level triage teams.Bug Opened = Not Yet AssignedSomeone (typically an SDET from the QA team) creates the bug item (e.g. in TFS), ensuring they populate all the relevant fields including: Title, Description, Repro Steps (including the Actual Result at the end of the steps), attachments of code and/or screenshots, Build number that they observed the issue in, regression details if applicable, how it was found, if a test case exists or needs to be created etc. They also indicate their opinion on the Priority and Severity. The bug status is left as Not Yet Assigned."Issue" versus "Fix for issue"The solution to some bugs is easy to determine, e.g. "bug: the column name is misspelled". Obviously the fix is to correct the spelling – still, the triage team should be explicit and enter the correct spelling in the bug's Description. Note that a bad bug name here would be "bug: fix the spelling of the column" (it describes the solution, rather than the problem).Other solutions are trickier to establish, e.g. "bug: the column header is not accessible (can only be clicked on with the mouse, not reached via keyboard)". What is the correct solution here? The last thing to do is leave this undetermined and just assign it to a developer. The solution has to be entered in the description. Behind this type of a bug usually hides a spec defect or a new feature request.The person opening the bug should focus on describing the issue, rather than the solution. The person indicates what the fix is in their opinion by stating the Expected Result (immediately after stating the Actual Result). If they have a complex suggested solution, that should be split out in a separate part, but the triage team has the final say before assigning it. If the solution is lengthy/complicated to describe, the bug can be assigned to the PM. Note: the strict interpretation suggests that any bug with no clear, obvious solution is always a hole in the spec and should always go to the PM. This also ensures the spec gets updated.Not Yet Assigned - Not Yet Assigned (on someone else's plate)If the bug is observed in our feature, but the cause is actually another team, we change the Area Path (which is the way we identify teams in TFS) and leave it as Not Yet Assigned. The triage team may add more comments as appropriate including potentially changing the repro steps. In some cases, we may even resolve the bug in our area path and open a new bug in the area path of the other team.Even though there is no action on a dev on the team, the bug still needs to be tracked. One way of doing this is to implement some notification system that informs the team when the tracked bug changed status; another way is to occasionally run a global query (against all area paths) for bugs that have been opened by a member of the team and follow up with the current owners for stale bugs.Not Yet Assigned - ResolvedThis state transition can only be made by the Feature Triage Team.0. Sometimes the bug description is not clear and in that case it gets Resolved as More Information Needed, so the original requestor can provide it.After understanding what the bug item is about, the first decision is to determine whether it needs to go to a dev.1. If it is a known bug, it gets resolved as "Duplicate" and linked to the existing bug.2. If it is "By Design" it gets resolved as such, indicating that the triage team does not think this is a bug.3. If the bug does not repro on latest bits, it is resolved as "No Repro"4. The most painful: If it is decided that we cannot fix it for this release it gets resolved as "Postponed" or "Won't Fix". The former is typically due to resources and time constraints, while the latter is due to deciding that it is not important enough to consume our resources in any release (yes, not all bugs must be fixed!). For both cases, there are other factors that contribute to the decision such as: existence of a reasonable workaround, frequency we expect users to encounter the issue, dependencies on other team to offer a solution, whether it breaks a core scenario, whether it prohibits customer feedback on a major feature, is it a regression from a previous release, impact of the fix on other partner teams (e.g. User Education, User Experience, Localization/Globalization), whether this is the right fix, does the fix impact performance goals, and last but not least, severity of bug (e.g. loss of customer data, security threat, crash, hang). The bar for fixing a bug goes up as the release date approaches. The triage team becomes hardnosed about which bugs to take, while the developers are busy resolving assigned bugs thus everyone drives for Zero Bug Bounce (ZBB). ZBB is when you have 0 active bugs older than 48 hours.Not Yet Assigned - AssignedIf the bug is something we decide to fix in this release and the solution is known, then it is assigned to a DEV. This is either the developer that will do the work, or a Lead that can further assign it to one of his developer team based on a load balancing algorithm of their choosing.Sometimes, the triage team needs the dev to do some investigation work before deciding whether to take the fix; similarly, the checkin for the fix may be gated on code review by the triage team. In these cases, these instructions are provided in the comments section of the bug and when the developer is done they notify the triage team for final decision.Additionally, a Priority and Severity (from 0 to 4) has to be entered, e.g. a P0 means "drop anything you are doing and fix this now" whereas a P4 is something you get to after all P0,1,2,3 bugs are fixed.From a testing perspective, if the bug was found through ad-hoc testing or an external team, the decision is made whether test cases should be added to avoid future regressions. This is communicated to the QA team.Assigned - ResolvedWhen the developer receives the bug (they should be checking daily for new bugs on their plate looking at bugs in order of priority and from older to newer) they can send it back to triage if the information is not clear. Otherwise, they investigate the bug, setting the Sub Status to "Investigating"; if they cannot make progress, they set the Sub Status to "Blocked" and discuss this with triage or whoever else can help them get unblocked. Once they are unblocked, they set the Sub Status to "Working on Solution"; once they are code complete they send a code review request, setting the Sub Status to "Fix Available". After the iterative code review process is over and everyone is happy with the fix, the developer checks it in and changes the state of the bug from Active (and Assigned to them) to Resolved (and Assigned to someone else).The developer needs to ensure that when the status is changed to Resolved that it is assigned to a QA person. For example, maybe the PM opened the bug, but it should be a QA person that will verify the fix - the developer needs to manually change the assignee in that case. Typically the QA person will send an email to the original requestor notifying them that the fix is verified.Resolved - ??In all cases above, note that the final state was Resolved. What happens after that? The final step should be Closed. The bug is closed once the QA person verifying the fix is happy with it. If the person is not happy, then they change the state from Resolved to Active, thus sending it back to the developer. If the developer and QA person cannot reach agreement, then triage can be brought into it. An easy way to do that is change the status back to Not Yet Assigned with appropriate comments so the triage team can re-review.It is important to note that only QA can close a bug. That means that if the opener of the bug was a PM, when the bug gets resolved by the dev it may land on the PM's plate and after a quick review, the PM would re-assign to an SDET, which is the only role that can close bugs. One exception to this is if the person that filed the bug is external: in that case, we leave it Resolved and assigned to them and also send them a notification that they need to verify the fix. Another exception is if specialized developer knowledge is needed for verifying the bug fix (e.g. it was a refactoring suggestion bug typically not observable by the user) in which case it is fine to have a developer verify the fix, and ideally a different developer to the one that opened the bug.Other links on bug triageA quick search reveals that others have talked about this subject, e.g. here, here, here, here and here.Your take?If you have other best practices your team uses to deal with incoming bug reports, feel free to share in the comments below or on your blog. • First round playing with Memcached

    - by Shaun
    To be honest I have not been very interested in the caching before I’m going to a project which would be using the multi-site deployment and high connection and concurrency and very sensitive to the user experience. That means we must cache the output data for better performance. After looked for the Internet I finally focused on the Memcached. What’s the Memcached? I think the description on its main site gives us a very good and simple explanation. Free & open source, high-performance, distributed memory object caching system, generic in nature, but intended for use in speeding up dynamic web applications by alleviating database load. Memcached is an in-memory key-value store for small chunks of arbitrary data (strings, objects) from results of database calls, API calls, or page rendering. Memcached is simple yet powerful. Its simple design promotes quick deployment, ease of development, and solves many problems facing large data caches. Its API is available for most popular languages. The original Memcached was built on *nix system are is being widely used in the PHP world. Although it’s not a problem to use the Memcached installed on *nix system there are some windows version available fortunately. Since we are WISC (Windows – IIS – SQL Server – C#, which on the opposite of LAMP) it would be much easier for us to use the Memcached on Windows rather than *nix. I’m using the Memcached Win X64 version provided by NorthScale. There are also the x86 version and other operation system version.   Install Memcached Unpack the Memcached file to a folder on the machine you want it to be installed, we can see that there are only 3 files and the main file should be the “memcached.exe”. Memcached would be run on the server as a service. To install the service just open a command windows and navigate to the folder which contains the “memcached.exe”, let’s say “C:\Memcached\”, and then type “memcached.exe -d install”. If you are using Windows Vista and Windows 7 system please be execute the command through the administrator role. Right-click the command item in the start menu and use “Run as Administrator”, otherwise the Memcached would not be able to be installed successfully. Once installed successful we can type “memcached.exe -d start” to launch the service. Now it’s ready to be used. The default port of Memcached is 11211 but you can change it through the command argument. You can find the help by typing “memcached -h”.   Using Memcached Memcahed has many good and ready-to-use providers for vary program language. After compared and reviewed I chose the Memcached Providers. It’s built based on another 3rd party Memcached client named enyim.com Memcached Client. The Memcached Providers is very simple to set/get the cached objects through the Memcached servers and easy to be configured through the application configuration file (aka web.config and app.config). Let’s create a console application for the demonstration and add the 3 DLL files from the package of the Memcached Providers to the project reference. Then we need to add the configuration for the Memcached server. Create an App.config file and firstly add the section on top of it. Here we need three sections: the section for Memcached Providers, for enyim.com Memcached client and the log4net. 1: <configSections> 2: <section name="cacheProvider" 3: type="MemcachedProviders.Cache.CacheProviderSection, MemcachedProviders" 4: allowDefinition="MachineToApplication" 5: restartOnExternalChanges="true"/> 6: <sectionGroup name="enyim.com"> 7: <section name="memcached" 8: type="Enyim.Caching.Configuration.MemcachedClientSection, Enyim.Caching"/> 9: </sectionGroup> 10: <section name="log4net" 11: type="log4net.Config.Log4NetConfigurationSectionHandler,log4net"/> 12: </configSections> Then we will add the configuration for 3 of them in the App.config file. The Memcached server information would be defined under the enyim.com section since it will be responsible for connect to the Memcached server. Assuming I installed the Memcached on two servers with the default port, the configuration would be like this. 1: <enyim.com> 2: <memcached> 3: <servers> 4: <!-- put your own server(s) here--> 5: <add address="192.168.0.149" port="11211"/> 6: <add address="10.10.20.67" port="11211"/> 7: </servers> 8: <socketPool minPoolSize="10" maxPoolSize="100" connectionTimeout="00:00:10" deadTimeout="00:02:00"/> 9: </memcached> 10: </enyim.com> Memcached supports the multi-deployment which means you can install the Memcached on the servers as many as you need. The protocol of the Memcached responsible for routing the cached objects into the proper server. So it’s very easy to scale-out your system by Memcached. And then define the Memcached Providers configuration. The defaultExpireTime indicates how long the objected cached in the Memcached would be expired, the default value is 2000 ms. 1: <cacheProvider defaultProvider="MemcachedCacheProvider"> 2: <providers> 3: <add name="MemcachedCacheProvider" 4: type="MemcachedProviders.Cache.MemcachedCacheProvider, MemcachedProviders" 5: keySuffix="_MySuffix_" 6: defaultExpireTime="2000"/> 7: </providers> 8: </cacheProvider> The last configuration would be the log4net. 1: <log4net> 2: <!-- Define some output appenders --> 3: <appender name="ConsoleAppender" type="log4net.Appender.ConsoleAppender"> 4: <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout"> 5: <conversionPattern value="%date [%thread] %-5level %logger [%property{NDC}] - %message%newline"/> 6: </layout> 7: </appender> 8: <!--<threshold value="OFF" />--> 9: <!-- Setup the root category, add the appenders and set the default priority --> 10: <root> 11: <priority value="WARN"/> 12: <appender-ref ref="ConsoleAppender"> 13: <filter type="log4net.Filter.LevelRangeFilter"> 14: <levelMin value="WARN"/> 15: <levelMax value="FATAL"/> 16: </filter> 17: </appender-ref> 18: </root> 19: </log4net>   Get, Set and Remove the Cached Objects Once we finished the configuration it would be very simple to consume the Memcached servers. The Memcached Providers gives us a static class named DistCache that can be used to operate the Memcached servers. Get<T>: Retrieve the cached object from the Memcached servers. If failed it will return null or the default value. Add: Add an object with a unique key into the Memcached servers. Assuming that we have an operation that retrieve the email from the name which is time consuming. This is the operation that should be cached. The method would be like this. I utilized Thread.Sleep to simulate the long-time operation. 1: static string GetEmailByNameSlowly(string name) 2: { 3: Thread.Sleep(2000); 4: return name + "@ethos.com.cn"; 5: } Then in the real retrieving method we will firstly check whether the name, email information had been searched previously and cached. If yes we will just return them from the Memcached, otherwise we will invoke the slowly method to retrieve it and then cached. 1: static string GetEmailByName(string name) 2: { 3: var email = DistCache.Get<string>(name); 4: if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(email)) 5: { 6: Console.WriteLine("==> The name/email not be in memcached so need slow loading. (name = {0})==>", name); 7: email = GetEmailByNameSlowly(name); 8: DistCache.Add(name, email); 9: } 10: else 11: { 12: Console.WriteLine("==> The name/email had been in memcached. (name = {0})==>", name); 13: } 14: return email; 15: } Finally let’s finished the calling method and execute. 1: static void Main(string[] args) 2: { 3: var name = string.Empty; 4: while (name != "q") 5: { 6: Console.Write("==> Please enter the name to find the email: "); 7: name = Console.ReadLine(); 8:  9: var email = GetEmailByName(name); 10: Console.WriteLine("==> The email of {0} is {1}.", name, email); 11: } 12: } The first time I entered “ziyanxu” it takes about 2 seconds to get the email since there’s nothing cached. But the next time I entered “ziyanxu” it returned very quickly from the Memcached.   Summary In this post I explained a bit on why we need cache, what’s Memcached and how to use it through the C# application. The example is fairly simple but hopefully demonstrated on how to use it. Memcached is very easy and simple to be used since it gives you the full opportunity to consider what, when and how to cache the objects. And when using Memcached you don’t need to consider the cache servers. The Memcached would be like a huge object pool in front of you. The next step I’m thinking now are: What kind of data should be cached? And how to determined the key? How to implement the cache as a layer on top of the business layer so that the application will not notice that the cache is there. How to implement the cache by AOP so that the business logic no need to consider the cache. I will investigate on them in the future and will share my thoughts and results.   Hope this helps, Shaun All documents and related graphics, codes are provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. • Creating HTML5 Offline Web Applications with ASP.NET

    - by Stephen Walther
    The goal of this blog entry is to describe how you can create HTML5 Offline Web Applications when building ASP.NET web applications. I describe the method that I used to create an offline Web application when building the JavaScript Reference application. You can read about the HTML5 Offline Web Application standard by visiting the following links: Offline Web Applications Firefox Offline Web Applications Safari Offline Web Applications Currently, the HTML5 Offline Web Applications feature works with all modern browsers with one important exception. You can use Offline Web Applications with Firefox, Chrome, and Safari (including iPhone Safari). Unfortunately, however, Internet Explorer does not support Offline Web Applications (not even IE 9). Why Build an HTML5 Offline Web Application? The official reason to build an Offline Web Application is so that you do not need to be connected to the Internet to use it. For example, you can use the JavaScript Reference Application when flying in an airplane, riding a subway, or hiding in a cave in Borneo. The JavaScript Reference Application works great on my iPhone even when I am completely disconnected from any network. The following screenshot shows the JavaScript Reference Application running on my iPhone when airplane mode is enabled (notice the little orange airplane):   Admittedly, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find locations where you can’t get Internet access. A second, and possibly better, reason to create Offline Web Applications is speed. An Offline Web Application must be downloaded only once. After it gets downloaded, all of the files required by your Web application (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Image) are stored persistently on your computer. Think of Offline Web Applications as providing you with a super browser cache. Normally, when you cache files in a browser, the files are cached on a file-by-file basis. For each HTML, CSS, image, or JavaScript file, you specify how long the file should remain in the cache by setting cache headers. Unlike the normal browser caching mechanism, the HTML5 Offline Web Application cache is used to specify a caching policy for an entire set of files. You use a manifest file to list the files that you want to cache and these files are cached until the manifest is changed. Another advantage of using the HTML5 offline cache is that the HTML5 standard supports several JavaScript events and methods related to the offline cache. For example, you can be notified in your JavaScript code whenever the offline application has been updated. You can use JavaScript methods, such as the ApplicationCache.update() method, to update the cache programmatically. Creating the Manifest File The HTML5 Offline Cache uses a manifest file to determine the files that get cached. Here’s what the manifest file looks like for the JavaScript Reference application: CACHE MANIFEST # v30 Default.aspx # Standard Script Libraries Scripts/jquery-1.4.4.min.js Scripts/jquery-ui-1.8.7.custom.min.js Scripts/jquery.tmpl.min.js Scripts/json2.js # App Scripts App_Scripts/combine.js App_Scripts/combine.debug.js # Content (CSS & images) Content/default.css Content/logo.png Content/ui-lightness/jquery-ui-1.8.7.custom.css Content/ui-lightness/images/ui-bg_glass_65_ffffff_1x400.png Content/ui-lightness/images/ui-bg_glass_100_f6f6f6_1x400.png Content/ui-lightness/images/ui-bg_highlight-soft_100_eeeeee_1x100.png Content/ui-lightness/images/ui-icons_222222_256x240.png Content/ui-lightness/images/ui-bg_glass_100_fdf5ce_1x400.png Content/ui-lightness/images/ui-bg_diagonals-thick_20_666666_40x40.png Content/ui-lightness/images/ui-bg_gloss-wave_35_f6a828_500x100.png Content/ui-lightness/images/ui-icons_ffffff_256x240.png Content/ui-lightness/images/ui-icons_ef8c08_256x240.png Content/browsers/c8.png Content/browsers/es3.png Content/browsers/es5.png Content/browsers/ff3_6.png Content/browsers/ie8.png Content/browsers/ie9.png Content/browsers/sf5.png NETWORK: Services/EntryService.svc http://superexpert.com/resources/JavaScriptReference/ A Cache Manifest file always starts with the line of text Cache Manifest. In the manifest above, all of the CSS, image, and JavaScript files required by the JavaScript Reference application are listed. For example, the Default.aspx ASP.NET page, jQuery library, JQuery UI library, and several images are listed. Notice that you can add comments to a manifest by starting a line with the hash character (#). I use comments in the manifest above to group JavaScript and image files. Finally, notice that there is a NETWORK: section of the manifest. You list any file that you do not want to cache (any file that requires network access) in this section. In the manifest above, the NETWORK: section includes the URL for a WCF Service named EntryService.svc. This service is called to get the JavaScript entries displayed by the JavaScript Reference. There are two important things that you need to be aware of when using a manifest file. First, all relative URLs listed in a manifest are resolved relative to the manifest file. The URLs listed in the manifest above are all resolved relative to the root of the application because the manifest file is located in the application root. Second, whenever you make a change to the manifest file, browsers will download all of the files contained in the manifest (all of them). For example, if you add a new file to the manifest then any browser that supports the Offline Cache standard will detect the change in the manifest and download all of the files listed in the manifest automatically. If you make changes to files in the manifest (for example, modify a JavaScript file) then you need to make a change in the manifest file in order for the new version of the file to be downloaded. The standard way of updating a manifest file is to include a comment with a version number. The manifest above includes a # v30 comment. If you make a change to a file then you need to modify the comment to be # v31 in order for the new file to be downloaded. When Are Updated Files Downloaded? When you make changes to a manifest, the changes are not reflected the very next time you open the offline application in your web browser. Your web browser will download the updated files in the background. This can be very confusing when you are working with JavaScript files. If you make a change to a JavaScript file, and you have cached the application offline, then the changes to the JavaScript file won’t appear when you reload the application. The HTML5 standard includes new JavaScript events and methods that you can use to track changes and make changes to the Application Cache. You can use the ApplicationCache.update() method to initiate an update to the application cache and you can use the ApplicationCache.swapCache() method to switch to the latest version of a cached application. My heartfelt recommendation is that you do not enable your application for offline storage until after you finish writing your application code. Otherwise, debugging the application can become a very confusing experience. Offline Web Applications versus Local Storage Be careful to not confuse the HTML5 Offline Web Application feature and HTML5 Local Storage (aka DOM storage) feature. The JavaScript Reference Application uses both features. HTML5 Local Storage enables you to store key/value pairs persistently. Think of Local Storage as a super cookie. I describe how the JavaScript Reference Application uses Local Storage to store the database of JavaScript entries in a separate blog entry. Offline Web Applications enable you to store static files persistently. Think of Offline Web Applications as a super cache. Creating a Manifest File in an ASP.NET Application A manifest file must be served with the MIME type text/cache-manifest. In order to serve the JavaScript Reference manifest with the proper MIME type, I added two files to the JavaScript Reference Application project: Manifest.txt – This text file contains the actual manifest file. Manifest.ashx – This generic handler sends the Manifest.txt file with the MIME type text/cache-manifest. Here’s the code for the generic handler: using System.Web; namespace JavaScriptReference { public class Manifest : IHttpHandler { public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { context.Response.ContentType = "text/cache-manifest"; context.Response.WriteFile(context.Server.MapPath("Manifest.txt")); } public bool IsReusable { get { return false; } } } } The Default.aspx file contains a reference to the manifest. The opening HTML tag in the Default.aspx file looks like this: <html manifest="Manifest.ashx"> Notice that the HTML tag contains a manifest attribute that points to the Manifest.ashx generic handler. Internet Explorer simply ignores this attribute. Every other modern browser will download the manifest when the Default.aspx page is requested. Seeing the Offline Web Application in Action The experience of using an HTML5 Web Application is different with different browsers. When you first open the JavaScript Reference application with Firefox, you get the following warning: Notice that you are provided with the choice of whether you want to use the application offline or not. Browsers other than Firefox, such as Chrome and Safari, do not provide you with this choice. Chrome and Safari will create an offline cache automatically. If you click the Allow button then Firefox will download all of the files listed in the manifest. You can view the files contained in the Firefox offline application cache by typing about:cache in the Firefox address bar: You can view the actual items being cached by clicking the List Cache Entries link: The Offline Web Application experience is different in the case of Google Chrome. You can view the entries in the offline cache by opening the Developer Tools (hit Shift+CTRL+I), selecting the Storage tab, and selecting Application Cache: Notice that you view the status of the Application Cache. In the screen shot above, the status is UNCACHED which means that the files listed in the manifest have not been downloaded and cached yet. The different possible values for the status are included in the HTML5 Offline Web Application standard: UNCACHED – The Application Cache has not been initialized. IDLE – The Application Cache is not currently being updated. CHECKING – The Application Cache is being fetched and checked for updates. DOWNLOADING – The files in the Application Cache are being updated. UPDATEREADY – There is a new version of the Application. OBSOLETE – The contents of the Application Cache are obsolete. Summary In this blog entry, I provided a description of how you can use the HTML5 Offline Web Application feature in the context of an ASP.NET application. I described how this feature is used with the JavaScript Reference Application to store the entire application on a user’s computer. By taking advantage of this new feature of the HTML5 standard, you can improve the performance of your ASP.NET web applications by requiring users of your web application to download your application once and only once. Furthermore, you can enable users to take advantage of your applications anywhere -- regardless of whether or not they are connected to the Internet.
