• Issue changing innodb_log_file_size

  I haven't done much tweaking in the past so this might be relatively easy however I am running into issues. This is what I do: Stop MySQL Edit my.cnf (changing innodb_log_file_size) Remove ib_logfile0/1 Start MySQL Starts fine however all InnoDB tables have the .frm file is invalid error, the status shows InnoDB engine is disabled so I obviously go back, remove the change and everything works again. I was able to change every other variable I've tried but I can't seem to find out why InnoDB fails to start even after removing the log files. Am I missing something? Thanks. Edit: Pasting of the log below - looks like it still seems to find the log file even though they are not there?   the situation: a user on the page in question selects a category from a dropdown which then dynamically populates all the users of that category in a second dropdown beside it. all the data is being retrieved using LinqtoSQL and i was wondering if this can be done a) using html.dropdownlist in a strongly typed view? b) using jquery to trigger the ajax request on selected index change instead of a 'populate' button trigger? sorry i dont have code as what i was trying really wasnt working at all. I am having trouble with how to do it conceptually and programatically! will appreciate any links to examples etc greatly! thanks in advance! • Jquery (non-gem) plugin won't work in my rails 3.2 app

  I'm trying to equalize columns in my rails 3.2 app, and while there may be a better way to do it then my current attempt, after hours of trying to make it work I'd like to see if anyone can point out specifically why this jQuery plugin (which isn't a gem) is not working. I'm not getting any errors in the developer console, so it's hard to pin point. • Chrome.tabs.getSelected() doesn't work. What am I doing wrong ?

  Hi there ! I'm building my first GC extension, and I am having a problem using this function. I would like to get the url of the current tab, and to do so (after some google research, of course), I use the chrome.tabs.getSelected() function. Here it is in my code : ... socket.onopen = function(msg){ log("Welcome - status " + this.readyState); chrome.tabs.getSelected(null, function(tab){ sendUrl(tab.url); }); }; function sendUrl(tabUrl) { socket.send("#URL#"+ tabUrl); } The socket.open is a listener for the Websocket API I use in my extension. The log function print the status of the socket (1, which means it's OPEN or connected and ready to communicate, according to the Websocket API), but the chrome.tabs.getSelected() function do not seems to work, as the server do not receive anything (the socket is not the problem here, I tried to send a test message with socket.send() instead of chrome.tabs.getSelected() and the server received it). I put the permissions: ["tabs"] into the manifest.json so I can use this function. So I don't know what I am doing wrong here ? I also tried to put chrome.tab.getSelected() elsewhere in the code, but it is still not working. Any help is welcome :)

• Cannot bind to IPv6 address

  I am facing a strange problem on my Ubuntu Karmic system. When I call getaddrinfo() with AI_PASSIVE and AF_UNSPEC, for an empty host and the UDP 12000 port to get a bindable address, I only get back one IPv4 result (0.0.0.0:12000 for instance). If I change my call and specify AF_INET6 instead of AF_UNSPEC, then getaddrinfo() returns "Name or service not known". Shouldn't I get [::]:12000 as a result ? The same thing happens if I set the host to ::1. When I call getaddrinfo() without AI_PASSIVE (to get a "connectable" address) for the host "localhost" and the UDP 12000 port, I first get [::1]:12000 then 127.0.0.1:12000. So apparently, my system is IPv6 ready (I can ping to both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, as well as DNS resolution). But how is it that I can't get an IPv6 address to bind to with getaddrinfo() ? Do you guys have any idea about what could be wrong ? My OS is Ubuntu Karmic, fresh install without any networking tweaking. Thank you.

• Identity alternative for SQL Azure Federation : are Azure Queues or Service Bus Queues a good choice?

  As many of developers, I'm looking for a way to integrate my existing app to SQL Azure Federations, and replacing the Identity columns (the primary keys of my tables) is a big problem. For many reasons, I do NOT want use GUID for my primary keys (please don't open the debate about the GUID or not, it's not my question : i just don't want a GUID, period). So I need to build a key provider to replace the "identity" feature of a standard SQL database. I'm using Entity Framework, so i can easily find one place to set the Id value just before the insert (by overriding the SaveChanges method of my ObjectContext class). I just need to find a "not too complicated" implementation for getting the current Id, which is "farm-ready". I've read this SO post : "ID Generation for Sharded Database (Azure Federated Database)" and "Synchronizing Multiple Nodes in Windows Azure from MSDN Magazine", but this solution sounds a bit complicated for me. I'm thinking about creating (automatically) one azure queue for each SQL table, which contain a pre-loaded list of consecutive integer. When I want an Id value, I just have to get a message from the queue (which becomes invisible and is deleted on the way), which give me the current available Id. About the choice between "Windows Azure Queues" and "Windows Azure Service Bus Queues", I prefere "Windows Azure Queues", due to the "high" latency of Service Bus Queues. I don't think that the lack of "ordering garantee" of Azure Queues is a problem. What do you think about that idea of using Azure Queues to provide Id values ? Do you see any argument to give up that idea ? Do you have a better idea, or even a good practice, to provider integer ids in SQL Azure Federation databases ? Thanks.

  hello everyone, i'm not sure where my errors are lying but here is my scenario... i have an un-ordered list in html that handles my main link bar... <ul id="navlist"> <li><a href="/" id="current">home</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="search">search</a></li> <li><a href="#" id="users">login</a></li> </ul> and what i want done is to call each id and have jQuery handle each and dislpay it where specified in my css file... for now, lets just ignore my "home" link... here is a snippet of my inline jquery $(document).ready(function() { $("a").click(function () { $("div#login").slideToggle("fast"); }); }) Now, whichever div i specify, it calls that ... however it will only call one div, using either from the un-orderd list, as mentioned above in the html. My Goal is to call a search bar when search is clicked, and to call a login box when login is clicked. to my knowledge (noob), i believe use an as a class, however that is what brings me here. i believe my error is in my jquery and not my css, as stated above, either instance will be displayed when the jquery function calls either tag. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance shan2on

  Our client has an application that stores blobs in database which has now grown enough to impact the performance of SQL Server. To overcome this issue, we are planning to offload all blobs to file system and leave the path of file in a new column in user table. Like if user has a table docs with columns id, name and content (blob); we would ask him to add a new column 'filepath' in this table. Our client is willing to make this change in this database. But when it comes to changing the sql queries to read and write into this table, they are not ready to accep this. Actually, they don't want any change that results in recompilation and deployment. Now we are planning to write a custom ADO.NET provider that will intercept the select queries add a column 'filepath' at the end of the select statement retieve the result set and modify the 'content' column value based on 'filepath' value Is there any use case that you think will certainly fail with this approach? I know this sounds dirty but do we have a better way?

• Randomizing Div tags using Java Script

  I've looked around and have been able to find a piece of code that does the job but it doesn't work for all of my tags. I have a total of 8 Div tags that I want to randomize and this piece of code only allows me to randomize 7 of them. If I replace the 7 with an 8 it just shows everything in order. I don't work with Javascript very often and have hit a road block.   Hi All, I am developing a game in VB6 (plz don't ask me why :) ). The storyboard is ready and a rough implementation is underway. I am following a "pure-software-rendering" approach. (i.e. no DirectX, no openGL etc.) Amongst many others, the following "serious" problems exist: 2D alpha transparency reqd. to implement overlays. Parallax implementation to give depth-of-field illusion. Capturing mouse-scroll events globally (as in FPS-es; mapping them to changing weapon). Async sound play with absolute "zero-lag". Any ideas anyone. Please suggest any well documented library/ocx or sample-code. Plz do provide solutions with max performance and with as little overhead as possible. Also, anyone who has developed any games, and would be open to sharing her/his code would be highly appreciated. (any well-acknowledged VB games whose source-code i can study??) Thank You

• Isotope.js help: Changing item image after sorting

  This is a general question on how to go about building a project I have in mind, and the best way to set off on the right foot. I am fairly new to JS, please be gentle. I want to use isotope.js (or a similar script) to display a page with multiple items (about 30 different plants found in a garden) and the ability to sort them by seasons of the year + "what is most beautiful now" + and "view all" (a total of 6 categories) . On load, or when sorted by either "what is beautiful now" or "view all", I need each item to reflect the image of the current season we are in. When sorted by season, I need those "current" images to switch over to a designated seasonal image of that plant. Therefore, each sortable item will ultimately have 4 different versions with 4 different images in the background ready to surface when plants are sorted. (perhaps 5 if it makes more sense to have a "current" version besides the 4 seasonal versions.) My question: what approach can I take to achieve this effect in a manageable way? Can isotope apply a class to items sorted? Assuming it can: Should each item have 4 inline images, each with a css class, that I then control by using display:inline; and display:none; properties from my stylesheets? (I worry that this approach would significantly increase load times) Would it make more sense to create a blank dummy div who's background I control similarly to the example above -relying mostly on CSS.   I need to get model data into a javascript variable and use it as an int to compare values. But I can only figure out how to get the model data as strings, otherwise the compiler complains. • jQuery logic firing twice from a Usercontrol when used in a jQueryUI modal dialog

  I have an asp.net usercontrol that I'm using to put a bunch of HTML and Jquery logic into to be shared on several pages. This usercontrol has some dropdown boxes loaded from json calls and has no added codebehind logic. When I use this usercontrol on a normal page it works perfectly fine, and no issues at all. However, when I wrap the usercontrol in a div, and use a jqueryUI modal dialog, everything in the usercontrol fires twice. Not only code in the initial $(document).ready(function() {});, but also every function is also fired twice when called. Debugging this in Visual Studio, I see that everything is first being called from the external JS file, and then again from a "script block" file that is somehow getting generated on the fly. This script block file isn't getting generated on a page that doesn't wrap the user control in a modal. The same happens if I use IISExpress or IIS7. The question is, why is this script block file getting created, and why is all my jQuery logic firing twice? --edit-- Here is the div: <div id="divMyDiv" title="MyDiv"> <uc1:MyUserControl runat="server" ID="MyUsercontrol" /> </div> Here is the modal logic that uses it: $("#divMyDiv").dialog({ autoOpen: false, height: 400, width: 400, modal: true, open: function (type, data) { $(this).parent().appendTo("form"); } }); Note: The problm still occurs, even if I remove the "open:" function. But, it does not occur if I remove the entire dialog block, so it is specific to this dialog call.

• jQuery & IE crashing on $('#someDiv').hide();

  Well after a while of scratching my head and going "huh?" trying to figure out why IE would straight up crash when loading one of my pages loaded with jQuery goodness, I narrowed down the culprit to this line $('div#questions').hide(); And when I say IE crashes, I mean it fully crashes, attempting to do its webpage recovery nonsense that fails. I am running jQuery 1.4.2 and using IE 8 (haven't tested with any other versions) my current workaround is this: if ($.browser.msie) { window.location = "http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html"; } For some reason I feel my IE users won't be very pleased with this solution though. The div in question has a lot of content in it and other divs that get hidden and displayed again, and all of that works just fine and dandy, it is only when the giant parent div is hidden that IE flips out and stabs itself. Has anyone encountered this or have any possible ideas of what is going wrong? EDIT: Everything is wrapped up in the $(document).ready(function() { }); And my code is all internal so I can't link it unfortunately.

• javascript not firing when asp.net user control loads

  I am trying to fire a Javascript call when an ASP.net user control to an aspx page. The Web site allows users to add user controls to a page (similar to adding a widget etc to a page like google widgets). But when the control is added the javascript does not fire, only if the page is refreshed will it fire the javascript. IF the next time the website is accessd and the controlis still there the javascript fires too. Do I need to use the RegisterClientScript method to register the call (setAutoTimer()) on the control load or OnPreRender event. • Sync video play over network

  Hi, I have made a media player that plays basically anything that's scheduled to it via a text file. The player can also play the exact same clip on multiple machines(PC's). The problem is the syncing. The same video starts playing on each of the machines, but they are out by about 400ms, which looks crap and if there's sound it's even worse. What I do at the moment is: One machine is set up as the master and all other machines are set up as slaves. The master decides what item will be played. It waits for a message from each of the slaves, once all slaves are connected (or after the timeout), it broadcasts the item id of the file that needs to be played. All machines then start playing that file. What I also tried: I thought that the file loading time might be the major driving factor in the sync mismatch, so I chankged the code to do the following. The master still decides what file to play. It waits for the connect message from each slave (or timeout) and transmits the item id of the file to play. All machines start playing that file but pauses it immediately. The master then again waits for a ready message from each of the slaves. As soon as all slaves responded the master sends a play message to all slaves. All machines then continue the file. This unfortunately did not improve the problem. I am now pretty sure the sync mismatch is due to network delay. How can I compensate for this? Or maybe determine the delay to each slave? All network comms are done with winsock. Any thoughts or ideas is much appreciated.
