    I'm having problems installing development machine for Sharepoint (Foundation) 2010. This is what I did so far on the same machine: Installed a clean Windows 7 x64 with 4GB of RAM without being part of any domain. Just a simple standalone machine. Enabled IIS related features as described here except IIS6 related ones (two of them) Installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Development Edition (DB Engine and Writer being enabled but not SQL Agent) Installed Visual Studio 2010 Premium Started installing Sharepoint Foundation 2010 with first extracting files, changing config to enable Windows 7 installation and then installed it as Server Farm (then Complete) to avoid installing SQL Express. Created a separate SPF_CONFIG local user with Logon on as a service right. Opened SPF Management Shell and run New-SPConfigurationDatabase so I am able to use a non-domain username (SPF_CONFIG that I created in the previous step) But all I get is this: The outcome after this error is: Database Sharepoint2010Config is created User SPF_CONFIG is added to SQL Server and attached to this newly created database as dbowner and checking SQL server security logins this user has following rights: dbcreator securityadmin public

    Hi, I just installed Offic 2010 x64 on my Windows 7 x64 laptop. It already had Visual Studio 2010 on it. Now I try to add Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel or something to the project, but it just can't find the project. When I try to open a project from the website of Microsoft (a sample of Office development) Visual Studio says that that kind of project is not supported. How is this possible? Is it a problem that I installed x64 of Office? Or is the problem Visual Studio 2010? Thanks

So when to embrace/avoid Sharepoint 2010 as a development platform for new web applications. Addendum Would you as a sharepoint development specialist choose it as a platform for your next enterprise application with these characteristics: processor intensive lots of various screens for entering and managing data many complex business processes no need to change the UI (ie. reposition parts) ERP integration etc. I'm an Asp.net MVC (former web forms) developer and would like to know if usual multi-page semi complex web applications (intra/extra-net) should be built on top of Sharepoint 2010 and why (if yes or if no).

I have a VS 2010 Web project up and I'm trying to understand how I can make a custom UpdateCommand (Because I chose to write my own SQL statement, I do not have the option for VS 2010 to auto generate an update command for me.) Problem is: I don't know what the UpdateCommand should look like.   • Microsoft Office documents collaboration - Open Source alternative

    I am looking for a good solution to collaborate on Microsoft Office documents, we currently just edit directly on a Samba share but it's one big mess because sometimes people leave the office with their laptops while docs are open so swap files remain there and then you nobody is sure what's going on. Is there any good and simple open source solution based on Linux? I've tried Alfresco but it is much more than what I need, we got an internal wiki for most collaboration and I just need some solution for the stuff we need to do in Microsoft Office (mostly Excel files, the rest is in the wiki) EDIT: Some more info as requested - we are very small group, 4 full time employees and a few freelancers. The best idea I've got so far is just managing it in a subversion repository with a Lock-Modify-Lock policy but I'd love to hear about better solutions. Thanks!

  • Error when trying to deploy Windows XP SP3 with WDS

    I have created a WDS server running Windows Server 2008 R2. I have built my custom images of Windows 7 using WAIK and MDT 2010 that are installed on the server. I used this guide to help me through the process. The Windows 7 images that I have created capture and deploy properly. I am attempting to follow the same steps from the guide I linked to capture and deploy a Windows XP SP3 image. I am able to sysprep and capture the reference machine with no errors. I am then able to import the custom .wim that I just captured in to MDT 2010 with no issues either. However when I try to deploy this image to a test virtual machine I get the following error: Deployment Error: I have made sure that the .iso that I am importing the source files from originally to create the sysprep and capture sequence is indeed a Windows XP SP3 iso. When I first select a PE boot environment before I deploy I select the x86 PE boot image that I created originally when making this for my Windows 7 deployments. Could this be the issue? If so how do I make a boot image specific for Windows XP SP3 deployments? I have Googled around for this error and some places point to the deployment image not being able to find setup.exe and other important system files for installing the operating system. If so, how do I add these to the image? Any ideas?

    All operating system I use apart form Windows have a “Open with…” options for there Explorer, Finder, whatever. This is very useful as often more then one program can handle a given file extension. With the exception on zip file I generally have not seen such a function on Window. However since there is an exceptions it is possible. The questions I have is: How can a “Open with…” can be archived with windows? Is there perhaps a tool which can do it?

  • SharePoint solution package not deploying to all front-ends

    I have a WSP that contains a web part. It's being built using WSPBuilder. Most of the time, the WSP deploys perfectly. However, in two of our test environments (and sadly, in production, too) the WSP doesn't deploy properly to all the web front ends. The assemblies make it into the GAC, and the .webpart files get provisioned. The problem is that a tool part that the web part relies on for configuration simply fails to appear. I've determined that every time this has happened, it has been isolated to a single web front end. I've been able to resolve the issue by doing an stsadm -o deploysolution to re-deploy the solution, and in one instance it was resolved by the end user deactivating/reactivating the feature. Unfortunately, though, this has made it impossible to determine if the control isn't being deployed properly, or if it's some other issue. Any thoughts on this? Could it be a problem with the WSP, or is it likely to be environmental?

    We've migrated a client from google apps to an MS Exchange 2010 SP2 on-premise setup. The setup /prepareAD went well, and the software was installed with the Administrator account. We've used the Exchange Management Console to setup mailboxes and had to google up the appropriate workarounds such as going into each users Advanced Security Settings and selecting "include inheritable permissions from this object's parents", and changing their logon-to from specific machines to "all computers" so that they can connect to Outlook Web Access, and in turn so their Outlook 2007-2010 clients can connect to Exchange. Sending and receiving emails are working well. Now that all this is in place, we can create Dynamic Distrubution Lists with no problem, but as soon as we try and create a DISTRIBUTION LIST, either in the EMC or the Exchange PowerShell, we get an error. As the error message in the powershell is more verbose, I include this if anyone can suggest how we remedy this: [PS] C:\Windows\system32new-DistributionGroup -Name 'projects' -SamAccountName 'projects' -Alias 'projects' Active Directory operation failed on DC.cppe.local. This error is not retriable. Additional information: Access is denied.   • Should you disable page file with SSD?

    I've been reading http://serverfault.com/questions/23621/any-benefit-or-detriment-from-removing-a-pagefile-on-an-8gb-ram-machine, and it has a lot of great information. But assuming you have more than enough ram, I think page file should be disabled on SSD to extend the life time. I know you would lose the core dump on crash, but not many people need that information. From my understand without a page file as you reach the limit of your ram that might trigger thrashing on disk. But for SSDs there is no concept of thrashing, reads are fast. What do you guys think?

    Exchange 2010 SP1 Update Rollup 5 server information store database was restored to a Recovery Database using EMC Networker successfully. The Recovery Database is in a mounted state with mailboxes listed within in it. However, when restoring the mailbox content using the following command: Restore-Mailbox –Identity MYMAILBOX –RecoveryDatabase MYRECOVERYDB –RecoveryMailbox LOSTMAILBOX –TargetFolder FOLDERFORLOSTMAILBOX Returns the following error: Mailbox "LOSTMAILBOX" doesn't exist on database "MYRECOVERYDB". + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [Restore-Mailbox], ManagementObjectNotFoundException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : 66265C53,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.RestoreMailbox Note: I've used the correct alias name for the mailbox name; i've also tried combinations such as first name, or last name or both and so forth. Issuing a Get-MailboxStatistics -Database MYRECOVERYDB to see if the mailbox is there and it is as shown below: DisplayName ItemCount StorageLimitStatus LOSTMAILBOX 39495 MailboxDisabled Note: The StorageLimitStatus shows a strange output of MaibloxDisabled. Perhaps this may be the culprit. Going by the article's documentation I cannot complete the restore of the mailbox as I'm stuck at the restore-mailbox error that it cannot be found.     I have migrated my sitecollection(migsitecollection) to different farm using content deployment job. http://vsmoss/sites/migsitecollection I used collaboration portal to create it.Its working fine from where I migrated it but after running content deployment jobs my new migrated site global navigation settings are not getting saved when I am trying ot change them by going in settings-Navigation and in logs I can see this error The SPNavigation store is likely corrupt. I saw on net the solution for this problem is changing onet.xml and running script on sql database for the site, I am eager to better answer than this but if its the same I have few doubts on it: First,As my site template is not customised its the collobartion portal so I am not sure where exactly to change the onet.xml. Second, I am using the same database as of my webapplication running that script would not affect anything else on the main site of mine?

  • WSS Search fills 10 GB limit on SBS server 2011

    I've got a SBS Server 2011 Standard SP1 that isn't very busy. 2 Users local and 2 remote. We have sharepoint that has maybe a dozen small documents at most. I've just started getting the following two error occur Could not allocate space for object 'dbo.MSSBatchHistory'.'IX_MSSBatchHistory' in database 'WSS_Search_SERVER' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full. Create disk space by deleting unneeded files, dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth on for existing files in the filegroup. And CREATE DATABASE or ALTER DATABASE failed because the resulting cumulative database size would exceed your licensed limit of 10240 MB per database. Digging around in SQL manager I see that WSS Search DB file size is 10241MB, the log file is only 147 MB Firstly, why is WSS Search taking up so much space? How can I stop it from doing so, and what can I do now to get things running ok. I know about log file truncating and this isn't the case here since the log is tiny. Any help is appreciated. There is plenty of free space on the disk (791GB free) Thanks Kactus

I've tried the following : Create a custom list, add a field named "TestField" Create a personal view named "TestView", filter : Show when column "TestField" is equal to "" (leave the box empty) Create an alert, immediate email when items appearing in "TestView" are modified Create an item with both fields filled Create an item with only title filled Now you should receive two alert emails, but in the view "TestView" there is only one item. Is it a bug ?

  • Outlook Signature Broken in Entourage

    Some of our company uses Windows with Outlook 2010, and the rest use Mac with Entourage. When our standard signature line is included in an email that goes to Entourage, the result does not display correctly. It appears that Entourage is mangling the HTML. My working theory is that Entourage encounters inline CSS styles it does not know about and stops processing styles, but I'm really not sure. Question: How can I enter a signature into Outlook 2010 that will render correctly in Entourage? For example, can I specify somehow the exact HTML to use? Here's an example of how the HTML is being changed.   • Index a low-cost NAS on Windows 7

    Has anyone found a way to index the files stored on a Networked Attached Storage on Windows 7 so that the files can be available in Windows Search and Libraries? I am referring to the cheap and available NAS like the Western Digital My Book series that use an embedded linux server. Similar question: http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-networking/6700-indexing-nas-drive-libraries.html EDIT Windows help proposes to make the files stored on the NAS available offline. This is obviously not a good solution if the NAS has more data than what the client can store. If the folder is on a network device that is not part of your homegroup, it can be included as long as the content of the folder is indexed. If the folder is already indexed on the device where it is stored, you should be able to include it directly in the library. If the network folder is not indexed, an easy way to index it is to make the folder available offline. This will create offline versions of the files in the folder, and add these files to the index on your computer. Once you make a folder available offline, you can include it in a library. When you make a network folder available offline, copies of all the files in that folder will be stored on your computer's hard disk. Take this into consideration if the network folder contains a large number of files.

  • How do I force excel (and other office products) to stop opening files in the same application?

    Whenever I "double click" on an Excel file and another Excel file is open, the newly opened file automatically opens in the same application window as the previously opened Excel file. This isn't limited to just Excel, as I've seen Word do this as well. This poses a problem when wanting to compare documents side by side. The current solution I have for this is to actually open another Excel or Word instance, and then open the file from within that application window itself. Is there a way to force Office to open a new instance of the application when double clicking on the file icons? I'm currently using Office 2007 and Windows XP but I've seen this on Office 2010 and Windows Vista and 7. I'm looking for an overall solution if possible.

Also, I have a discussion board retention policy right now that isn't working properly.     Gmail has the notorious limitation of 20 results per page when searching your mail. Is there an extension (Chrome - preferable, Firefox, etc.) that can fix this (i.e. allow more than 20 items per page)? Based on my experience this should be entirely doable (have the extension move across pages in the background and then collect the results). Is there an extension that can already do this? I'm asking because I couldn't find one.

  • Opening a Corrupted winmail.dat file

    I have a set of winmail.dat files that apparently have evolved from a set of emails with corrupted headers. It looks like Exchange 2010 changed the headers around sometime last September and basically rendered exported .eml files unable to open. Now the HTML/PlainText emails seem to do ok, but the files that use RichText (specifically Microsoft's TNEF format) will not open in any program, Microsoft or not. I've attempted to use many different non-Microsoft converters and they see it as a corrupted message as well. If I remove the headers of the email, rename it as a winmail.dat file, some emails will open in Word, but most won't. If you take a look at the email in a text editor, there are null characters EVERYWHERE that distort the email itself. Anybody have any experience with this and/or suggestions on how to at least open it?
