  • OS X home, end, page up, page down movement keys and cursor focus

    When using the home, end, page up and page down movement keys in a text editor, the cursor stays in the same spot, even though the window has moved elsewhere. I know that you can use the option modifier to move the cursor along, but is there a way to move the cursor where your window has moved to (without using the mouse)? Another alternative would be to make these movement keys always behave as if the option modifier key is already pressed. Is this possible?

    i have a master page and a child aspx page, coneected to each other. the master page has the form in it. Now the child page has checkboxes, whose value i would like to pass to another child page with same master page behind it. Can i change the action=abc.aspx and method=post? How can i send all the checkbox values (checkbox.text = [email protected]) to the next page? there are lots of these values that need to pass to nex tpage.

    Hi there, I created a calendar list, and I added the calendar web part in another web part page. I noticed that i can not change the view without going to edit mode, then go to modify shared web part. But in the home page of the calendar. There is a same calendar web part with a drop down menu to change views. Also, there is a small calendar connected to the main calendar web part in the left navigation area. I don't know how to add it to my web part page. How can i make it look the same on my web part page? Thanks, Jason

    I am reading documentation about my CMS and it states that an HTML page <title> tag is really important in SEO. It states that the Google Spider gives the most relevance to the first 68 characters of a site title. (68 characters being the number of characters that Google will display in it's search engine result pages,) Can anyone verify this is still true? I read in The Information Diet that content farms were getting too good at gaming Google's algorithm for collecting and posting SERPs and so google had to change the search algorithm.

    We have a client with a facebook page, let's say his company is called Bob Roberts Super Widgets. And if you search in Facebook for Bob Roberts Super Widgets then up he pops. But the shorthand he's commonly known by is BR Super Widgets and indeed the website we've created for him is br-super-widgets.com. In Facebook, searching for BR Super Widgets doesn't show up our Mr Bob. We don't have a lot of Facebook expertise, so asking for help here. Does anyone know how to ensure you're found in Facebook search for both short and long company names? Have found this this similar question in the Facebook forum but the poor old questioner never got a response.

    Hi all: I need to redirect a user to a different page if they visit a certain set of pages in a web. There is one condition: I'm not allowed to touch the IIS. I have googled around and found a thing called the custom HttpHandler for WSS 3.0. It sounded like something that I can use to capture the URL the user enters (the most malicious way to get to a page that should really be redirected) and redirect them to another page/web. But having not have the chance to use it yet, I was wondering am I on the right track by using a Custom HttpHandler to redirect a user to a different page in Sharepoint using C#? Many thanks.

    Hey all Basically I want to replicate the page changing effect found here, at http://timvandamme.com/ But instead of using #values I want to use PHP includes, mainly because I want the site to be as uber-seo-friendly as possible... but still have this nice effect. So is there a way of doing this? I have a main index file which includes other php files in the centre using the usual 'GET' method, so my pages look like: "index.php?page=about" In my jQuery code I want to have a declaration where if I click the navigation, the content scrolls up, then once the relevant PHP file has loaded, have the content scroll back down and show the new page content (whilst also of navigated to the new page in the address bar, so if the user clicks the back button in their browser, they return to the previous page). I know how to code the scrolling bits, it's just literally the ajax loading includes / page navigation parts I'm struggling to work out :\ Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!! Thanks in advance.     I had always assumed that AJAX-driven content was invisible to search engines. (i.e. content inserted into the DOM via XMLHTTPRequest) For example, in this site, the main content is loaded via AJAX request by the browser: http://www.trustedsource.org/query/terra.cl ...if you view this page with Javascript disabled, the main content area is blank. However, Google cache shows the full content after the AJAX load: http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:JqcT6EVDHBoJ:www.trustedsource.org/query/terra.cl+http://www.trustedsource.org/query/terra.cl&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us So, apparently search engines do index content loaded by AJAX. Questions: Is this a new feature in search engines? Most postings on the web indicate that you have to publish duplicate static HTML content for search engines to find them. Are there any tricks to get an AJAX-driven content to be crawled by search engines (besides creating duplicate static HTML content). Will the AJAX-driven content be indexed if it is loaded from a separate subdomain? How about a separate domain?

  • Search implementation dilemma: full text vs. plain SQL

    I have a MySQL/Rails app that needs search. Here's some info about the data: Users search within their own data only, so searches are narrowed down by user_id to begin with. Each user will have up to about five thousand records (they accumulate over time). I wrote out a typical user's records to a text file. The file size is 2.9 MB. Search has to cover two columns: title and body. title is a varchar(255) column. body is column type text. This will be lightly used. If I average a few searches per second that would be surprising. It's running an a 500 MB CentOS 5 VPS machine. I don't want relevance ranking or any kind of fuzziness. Searches should be for exact strings and reliably return all records containing the string. Simple date order -- newest to oldest. I'm using the InnoDB table type. I'm looking at plain SQL search (through the searchlogic gem) or full text search using Sphinx and the Thinking Sphinx gem. Sphinx is very fast and Thinking Sphinx is cool, but it adds complexity, a daemon to maintain, cron jobs to maintain the index. Can I get away with plain SQL search for a small scale app?

  • iPhone Multithreaded Search

    I'm sort of new to any sort of multithreading and simply can't seem to get a simple search method working on a background thread properly. Everything seems to be in order with an NSAutoreleasePool and the UI being updated on the main thread. The app doesn't crash and does perform a search in the background but the search results yield the several of the same items several times depending on how fast I type it in. The search works properly without the multithreading (which is commented out), but is very slow because of the large amounts of data I am working with. All that displays is the URL of the page as the page title. Can I change the code in the default.aspx and/or the sites master page to define the title myself?
