  • Database normalization and duplicate values

    Consider a Parent / Child / GrandChild structure in a database table schema, or even a deeper hierarchy. These being in the same aggregate. One table DAYS keeps a single row per day, and has a "Date" field. This is the root table, or maybe a child of the root. No row can ever be deleted in this table. In this case, however complex my table schema looks like, however far away in the hierarchy any other table is, is there any reason why any other table would hold a Date value? Can't it instead just have a FK to the DAYS table. I obviously assume that the creation of these date fields happen not before such datefield exist in the DAYS table. I'm now thinking just about the date part to be relevant, not the time part. Not sure if all databases can store these individually. That's maybe relevant, but not really the focus of the question.

    If i have 2 lines on a page as such: e.Graphics.DrawLine(blackPen, w, h, h, w); e.Graphics.DrawLine(blackPen, w2, h2, h2, w2); how would i animate the first line to reach the second line's position? I've looked a lot into XAML (story-boarding) and such - but i want to know how to do this on my own. Any ideas? I know i would need a method which runs in a loop re-drawing the line after moving the position a tid bit. I would have to call Invalidate() in order to make the line appear as though it's moving... but how would i do this? how would i move that line slowly over to the other line? I'm pretty sure i'd have to use double buffering if i'm doing this as well... as such: SetStyle(ControlStyles.DoubleBuffer | ControlStyles.AllPaintingInWmPaint | ControlStyles.UserPaint, true); This doesn't quiet work, i'm not quiet sure how to fix it.   • Best way to parse XMPP-like XML streams?

    I am working on a server application which receives data over a TCP socket in an XMPP-like XML format, i.e. every child of the <root> element essentially represents one separate request (stanza). The connection is closed as soon as </root> is received. I do know that I must use a stream parser like SAX, somehow. Though, for convenience, I'd prefer to have a tree-like interface to access each stanza's child elements. (The data sent with every request is not large so I think it makes sense to read each stanza as a whole.) What's the best way to realize that in Python (preferably v3)? This is the code I'd like to build it in.   • Making a grid on iPhone using Opengl

    I'm trying to make a grid similar to what you would see in these geo games(geoDefense/geometry wars). I'm wanting to apply separate transformation matrixes to each to create different effects. So, it makes since to me that I need to draw each square separately to that I can apply a different transformation to each one. The problem I'm having is mapping these grids out or connecting the squares. The coordinate systems is still confusing to me. I know it would be easy just to create a huge triangle strip but I'm not able to figure out a way to apply separate transformations to each square( quad ) if I use triangle strips. So first question: Can you apply different transformations to quads if you use a triangle strip to draw a huge grid? If so, any tips suggestions on how to do so? If not, how does one usually connect textures without using triangle strips? Therefore, the modules is loaded Afer each modification,I restared the server manually with sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart The error.log gives Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.3.2-1ubuntu4.2 with Suhosin-Patch configured -- resuming normal operations When I call a page anyone.htm or anyone.php, the rewrite.log does contain nothing and the real page is called. If I understand, the page anyone.php should be replaced by testphp.php Did I make siomething wrong ? Thanks

    I have a working copy checked out from: https://oldserver/svn/myproject/branches/mybranch The server address has changed (actually, the repo was copied over to a new server) so I want to relocate my working copy to the new address: https://newserver/svn/myproject/branches/mybranch Note that only the address changed, not the path. But if I type that URL in TortoiseSVN's "Relocate" dialog box, I get the error "'https://newserver/svn/myproject/branches/mybranch' is not the root of the repository" ... well, of course it isn't, but so what? Then I thought maybe SVN wanted the repository root URL, so I tried giving it https://newserver/svn instead, but that produced the error "Relocate can only change the repository part of an URL". Are there any options besides backing up my changes and checking out a fresh WC from the new server?

  • Devise role based routing

    I have an app with multiple users. Each user as a theoretical role (user, client, etc). I've designed a view/controller for each user type. I want to be able to login each type of user do a different root url and lock them to it. Originally I was going to add a column to Users in Devise called role and so I can differentiate the users. The problem I'm having is how to say in routes.rb if current_user.role == "client" root :to = 'controller#index' Once they are logged in to the page I also want to keep them from being able to visit any of my other paths ie: domain.com/calls domain.com/units I've been looking into cancan to run alongside Devise but I'm not sure if this is the answer.

    I need some help with priviligies in centos I have a file in home/admin/public_html/generate.php that I want to do some file copy with using php copy function When I set the file to chown admin:admin generate.php I can access the file but I cannot execute the php copy command because I don't have the proper rights. When I set the file to root:root generate.php I cant access the file beacuse its under admin user folder home/admin/public_html/generate.php how do I solve please, thankful for any help. Bottom line is that I want my generate.php which is owned by admin:admin to be able to copy files from sources outside its home dir and to other home dirs I am using CENTOS

    I've written a custom plugin for CKEditor--successful on all fronts, save one currently: I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to customize the image on the button in the toolbar of the editor. As I'm a new user, you'll have to click through to see attached image; the highlighted square in the top left should have a pretty picture (like most of the other toolbar items). I really don't like to have the gaesessions and geo in my root, but their namespace are by root. I would like to have a structure like this: ProjectName -src -python -thirdParty -gaesessions -geo -app -static_files is this possible? or even better would be to make them as a library. this would be the best thing, but how to do this in eclipse and then when deploy my app, to deploy with those files too? thanks

  • Help with simple frame, and graphics in Java

    For hw, I'm trying to create a "CustomButton" that has a frame and in that frame, I draw two triangles, and a square over it. It's supposed to give the user the effect of a button press once it is depressed. So for starters, I am trying to set up the beginning graphics, drawing two triangles, and a square. The problem I have is although I set my frame to 200, 200, and the triangles I have drawn I think to the correct ends of my frame size, when I run the program, I have to extend my window to make the whole artwork, my "CustomButton," viewable.     I have a solution containing asp.net project class library WCF service class library WCF service application I've added a project refference from the asp.net project to the class library project and to the service class library project. I've published the asp.net application, loaded it to the webserver root. all ok. Now for the service, I've created a new folder on the root called WCF, and placed the aplication in there. Is this The way I should deploy the sollution? Are this the steps when you have more than a simple asp.net application? PS: How do I change that WCF folder to make it an application trough a control panel because I get this:http://surveillancecamera.somee.com/WCF. The reason why I get this is described here:

    I am using a UITableView to display a list of cells, when the user selects a cell then a new view appears by using the following code: - (void) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { [self.navigationController pushViewController: detailsViewController animated: TRUE]; } By using the code above, the view is displayed correctly, but when I return back to the root table view, then the cell is still selected. I noticed, in many sdk examples, that the cell is deselected (with a nice animation) when the root view is poped pack, but I could not find the code that implemented this feature in any of the examples. I know that I can use: [tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated: YES]; to implement this, but I am very curious on how these examples do it without using any code. Any ideas?
