• SQL Query for Determining SharePoint ACL Sizes

  When a SharePoint Access Control List (ACL) size exceeds more than 64kb for a particular URL, the contents under that URL become unsearchable due to limitations in the SharePoint search engine.  The error most often seen is The Parameter is Incorrect which really helps to pinpoint the problem (its difficult to convey extreme sarcasm here, please note that it is intended).  Exceeding this limit is not unheard of – it can happen when users brute force security into working by continually overriding inherited permissions and assigning user-level access to securable objects. Once you have this issue, determining where you need to focus to fix the problem can be difficult.  Fortunately, there is a query that you can run on a content database that can help identify the issue: SELECT [SiteId],      MIN([ScopeUrl]) AS URL,      SUM(DATALENGTH([Acl]))/1024 as AclSizeKB,      COUNT(*) AS AclEntries FROM [Perms] (NOLOCK) GROUP BY siteid ORDER BY AclSizeKB DESC This query results in a list of ACL sizes and entry counts on a site-by-site basis.  You can also remove grouping to see a more granular breakdown: SELECT [ScopeUrl] AS URL,       SUM(DATALENGTH([Acl]))/1024 as AclSizeKB,      COUNT(*) AS AclEntries FROM [Perms] (NOLOCK) GROUP BY ScopeUrl ORDER BY AclSizeKB DESC

• Unable to Connect to Internet with 3G USB Dongle for Particular ISP

  I'm using USB 3G Dongle for Internet. Previously I was using Tata Docomo (India) as provider, and the Internet was working fine. Now I've changed to BSNL, but I'm unable to connect to the Internet on Ubuntu. However, I've checked access point settings and other configuration which are required for BSNL, and it is working fine with same Dongle on Windows 7. Also, I'm able to connect Internet with other providers on Ubuntu, but problem persists only with Ubuntu. The access point for BSNL in my region is bsnlnet. In fact I configure the Dongle with BSNL using default Network Configuration wizard that pops up when USB Dongle is attached. When Dongle is attached and configured with BSNL, I can see network strength in Messaging menu, in Mobile Broadband category, of Ubuntu (note: my network icon still shows "not connected" status). And when I try to use the connection that I've created, it fails to connect. So far, I tried using Sakis3g script that I came up with while wandering over this issue on other forums, it didn't worked either. I also made sure that there are no special configuration made for BSNL on my Windows 7 installation, and still it is working fine there, the problem is only with Ubuntu. How can I fix it?

• Can't boot Ubuntu 12.04 from external Hard Drive using Mac

  Recently, I upgraded the RAM and hard drive on my Early 2008 Macbook to improve the performance. Rather than throw away the old hard drive, I bought an enclosure for it to turn it into an external hard drive, and, since all the data was migrated to my new drive, I decided to install Ubuntu on it for funsies (note: I am a near-total Ubuntu n00b). My first attempt to install Ubuntu didn't work (it gave me errors about not being able to find the BIOS or something), but my second attempt finished successfully (can't remember what, if anything, I did different). However, when I plug the external drive into my Macbook, it gives me a message saying it can't read the disk. Moreover, when I go into the Startup Manager (i.e.: what you get when you turn on the Macbook while holding the option key), the external drive is not one of the available startup disks. I thought this might be because I have an older Macbook, so I tried booting it with my mom's Late 2011 Macbook, and got the same results. Then I tried booting it through my dad's Dell laptop that runs Windows 7, and that time it worked. This is really counter intuitive to me, since the hard drive originally came from a Macbook, so if anything you'd think it would be less compatible with the Windows laptop than the Macbook. In case it helps, here's a link to a picture of how I set up the partition table while doing the install (not shown there is the fact that I checked the "Format?" box next to the /boot partition, since it gave me a warning when I tried to continue the installation without doing so) Anyone have any clue at all? If it helps, the hard drive I'm using is a 120GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard disk drive.

• Snippets in Vim not working

  I've been trying to get snippets to work with Vim (specifically, MacVim). I have tried both snippetsEmu and snipMate (preferred). Other plugins are working fine. I have been able to get snippetsEmu to temporarily work via A Byte of Vim's note to run :runtime! ftplugin/python_snippets.vim if they aren't working, except the author doesn't mention why they may not be working or what kind of permanent solutions are available. So, basically when I type for<tab> in a PHP file it just puts a tab after 'for' instead of expanding into the snippet. I'm new to Vim and can't seem to figure this out. The only main difference that these two plugins (snippetsEmu and snipMate) have compared to other plugins is that they use the ~/.vim/after directory. But knowing that hasn't helped me any. What I have seen some people suggest is to make sure the following is in your .vimrc file, but this has not helped: set nocompatible filetype on filetype plugin on

  I'm planning on setting up a small media center to achieve the following: I have multiple users who want to watch satellite channels I want them to be able to change the channel remotely I'm going to buy an external DVB to capture the signal Use some software to stream the channel that is selected I want to have 2 different channels at the same time, I assume I will need two DVB cards Users use VLC or Windows Media Player or whatever to view the channels How can I achieve this?   Okay, I'm a separated 2 time Iraq war veteran, living in Germany Supporting the military. About a year and a hald ago I bought an iPhone 4 off a guy from Craigslist. I thought the phone was unlocked, but when I got to Germany I realized it was not. I called AT&T and they told me that due to the contract with Apple they could not unlock any iPhone period. After the lawsuit with Apple, they started unlocking iPhones. So Today I called up their customer support and asked if they could unlock my phone. They said that they would only do it if I were a previous customer, could provide the information from the person that I had bought it from, or if I bought one at cost.-note, it has a baseband that is not able to be "unlocked" by software.Hello I already own the device, and a year and a half ago I bought it off someone that couldn't afford it... so no, I don't have the at&t account information from him. Just another example of why I won't ever use AT&T again. and I still have this iPhone that I have to jail break, and can't use a a phone. STAY AWAY FROM AT&T. They don't know the meaning of customer service!

  I need to create a Print Server Port via commandline in Windows 8 Per Google search I should be using prnport.vbs script to do so: cscript c:\Windows\System32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US\prnport.vbs -a -s \\192.168.113.253 -r Xerox_192.168.113.253 However I get this error: ** Unable to connect to WMI service Error 0x800706BA The RPC Server is unavailable. ** I looked at local services and both RPC and WMI services are started . Also I made sure add remote admin rule to Windows Firewall via command line without success!: netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="windows management instrumentation (wmi)" new enable=yes netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="remote administration" new enable=yes NOTE: If I use the GUI to create the print server port then add the printer via command line: rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Xerox WorkCenter 7535" /F C:\Windows\Inf\WC7545-7556_PCL6_x64_Driver\x2DNORX.inf /r "Xerox_192.168.113.253" /m "Xerox WorkCentre 7535 PCL6" THE PRINTER IS SUCCESSFULLY ADDED.   I have a Billion BiPac 7700N Modem/Router/Access Point and I connect another router (TP-Link TL-WR1043ND) in wan-bypass mode to extend the wireless coverage. Lately, I noticed that the connection through TP-Link has been dropping out quite regularly. Having read some posts on the Internet, I checked system log on 7700N and found that there are many "nf_conntract: expectation table full" errors, which I suppose the iptables are full. My questions: What does constitute an entry on the iptable? Is it a client or a connection (which means one client can have multiple connections) How could I find out where are those connections originated from? Note: Many reported that the issue is usually related to having torrents running but I don't have any torrents running. Thank you.

  Several times, we come across requirements where we need to capture the details of the file that got written out as a part of a BPEL process invoking a File/Ftp Adapter. Consider a case where we're using FileNamingConvention as "PurchaseOrder_%SEQ%.txt" and we need to do some post processing based on the filename (please remember that we wouldn't know the filename until the adapter invocation completes) In order to achieve this, we need to manually tweak the WSDL so that the File/Ftp Adapter can return the metadata of the file that was written out. In general, the File/Ftp Write/Put WSDL operations are one way as shown below:         The File/Ftp Adapters are designed to return the metadata back if this WSDL is tweaked into a two-way WSDL. In addition, the <wsdl:output/> must import the fileread.xsd schema (see below). You will need to copy fileread.xsd from  here into the xsd folder of your composite.       Finally, we will need to tweak the  WSDL. (highlighted below)           Finally, the BPEL <invoke> would look as shown below. • How to disable or edit Google Chrome Developer Tools shortcut?

  There is a shortcut in the Google Chrome Developer Tools which happen to trigger every times I try to type the [ or ] character in the console. The shortcut in question probably is Alt+[, Alt+^ or [ and it moves the tabs (of the Chrome Developer Tools) to the last selected one. This shortcut is simply blocking me from typing the [ or ] in the console and I want to either disable it or edit it to something else. How can I edit or disable that shortcut ? Note : I'm not really using the shortcut in the developers tools, so if it's only possible to disable all shortcut it would be a viable solution.

But he does not need HTML5, I refer to this attribute: data-src="image.jpg" Two good examples of website use LazyLoad are: youtube.com (suggested videos) and facebook.com (photo gallery). I believe that the best alternative would be to use: <A href="image.jpg">Content for ALT=""</a> and convert using javascript, for this: <IMG alt="Content for ALT=\"\"" src="image.jpg"> Then you question me: Why do you want to do that anyway? I'll tell you: Because HTML5 is not supported by any browser (especially mobile) And the attribute data-src="image.jpg" not work at all Indexers.   By now everyone is aware of the massive boom in social-networking (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) and obviously a big part of its business model revolves around being able to mine this data to create information that can be used to make money for someone. Gartner has identified 'Social Analytics' as one of the top 10 strategic technologies for 2011. Has anyone looked at their existing data structures to determine if they could extract a social graph and then perform further data mining against this? How does it fit in with your other strategic development strategies? What information are you trying to extract from the data? Take for example, a bank. They could conceivably determine a social graph through account relationships and transactions. Obviously there would be open edges on the graph where funds enter/leave the institute, but that shouldn't detract from the usefulness of the data. I'm looking for actual examples with the answers, as well as why/how they did it. References to other sites will be greatly appreciated. Note: I'm not at all referring to mining data out of actual social networks.

  During an early career of mine as a database consultant – when I was dealing with SQL Server 2000, I often needed to collect various data related to SQL Server. My favorite tool to collect the data is PSSDIAG tool. It is a general purpose diagnostic collection utility that Microsoft Product Support Services uses to collect various logs and data files. It collects Performance Monitor logs, SQL Profiler traces, SQL Server blocking script output, Windows Event Logs, and SQLDIAG output. The data collected can be used by SQL Nexus tool which help you troubleshoot SQL Server performance problems. PSSDIAG is a wrapper around other data collection APIs and utilities, the performance impact of running PSSDIAG is generally equal to the impact of the traces that PSSDIAG has been configured to capture. If you are using SQL Server 2000 – you need to seriously consider to upgrading it to SQL Server 2012. Here is a PSSDIAG Data Collection Utility updated in August 2012. • Text Editor that hilights all instances of selection for Mac

  On Windows, I use Notepad++ which has the great feature of when I select a word, all instances of that word are also highlighted in the same document. I have found it very helpful for finding patterns in giant log files. I am wondering if there is a similar feature in a text editor on the Mac. I have looked into the documentation for TextWrangler and TextMate to no avail. Hopefully there is a way to do this so I can be more productive when working on a Mac. -- Note: in Notepad++ you do not have to do a keyboard shortcut to make this work... you just select some text and it does the highlighting for you automatically.

• Internet Explorer 6 Encountered An Error ntl.dll Issue on XP and Win2000

  As we have some PC's still running Windows 2000 and this is beyond our control we use IE 6 so we can keep the IE platform standard. Recently on some XP and Win2000 PCs IE has been crashing with the Encountered a Problem and Needs to close do you want to send a message to Microsoft error when entering some sites. This happens even after a format reinstall with minimal software load (Office 2000, some avaya software, kaspersky, tapiex.dll). The module pointed to in the error report is ntl.dll. There are lots of reports over the net of the problem but has anyone resolved this issue? (Latest IE6 updates are installed). Also please note there were no 3rd party IE addons, spyware, viruses or adware Hope someone can help.

• SharePoint 2010 Licensing Costs

  We will be implementing a public-facing website in SharePoint 2010 and I have a few questions regarding licensing: Is there any (relatively) reliable pricing information available for SharePoint 2010? What about rumors? What edition of SharePoint 2010 would be appropriate for a publicly facing website (in 2007, you needed Enterprise for this, but it seems that WCM functionality is included in Standard in 2010)? What would be a reasonable number to budget for SharePoint 2010 licensing for a publicly facing website? Note: I have tried asking Microsoft directly. Unless you are a volume license customer, they direct you to a reseller (like CDW). Unfortunately, none of the resellers have the pricing for 2010 yet. The sku isn't even in their system. I was able to get in touch with the Microsoft Pre-Sales team and they confirmed that the price list will for 2010 will be published on May 3rd (or thereabouts), but they weren't able to give me a price. Thanks in advance for your help!

  For those fighting with all the Extended Event terminology, let's step back and have a small overall Introduction to Extended Events. This post will give you a simplified end to end view through some of the elements in Extended Events. Before we start, let’s review the first Extented Events that we are going to use: -          Events: The SQL Server code is populated with event calls that, by default, are disabled. Adding events to a session enables those event calls. Once enabled, they will execute the set of functionality defined by the session. -          Target: This is an Extended Event Object that can be used to log event information. Also it is important to understand the following Extended Event concept: -          Session: Server Object created by the user that defines functionality to be executed every time a set of events happen.   It’s time to write a small “Hello World” using Extended Events. This will help understand the above terms. • How to emulate pressing the Close button from a script?

  I wanted Thunderbird to stay in the Background to notify me of incoming mails. After a bit of searching, I found this post. How to keep Thunderbird and Pidgin running on background? The solution is to install an addon so that when we close Thunderbird it just stays in the background. Now, to have thunderbird running at Start up we can just add it to Startup Applications. But, when I open my system, Thunderbird also gets opened and I have to manually press the close button everytime to make Thunderbird go into the background. The solution given in the above post for this problem is to select Minimize on start. But doing so affects the way in which Thunderbird works when invoked from the Messaging menu. So I deselected this option. But, if there is a way to emulate pressing the Close button from a script, I can just add that script to Startup Applications So is there a way to achieve this? Note : If there is a simpler way to solve my original problem of keeping Thunderbird in background please post that also. Many thanks.

  Is there a way to prevent Mac OS X creating .DS_Store and other hidden meta-files on foreign volumes like NTFS and FAT? I share an NTFS partition with data like Thunderird & Firefox's profiles and apache's DocumentRoot, between Mac OS X and Windows, which is very handy. I don't mind if Mac OS X is not capable of indexing or otherwise doing the neat things those metafiles are for. Note: It's not shared over a network, both operating systems and the shared partition coexist on the same disk, on the same machine.
