  • Printer deployment via Group Policy not working on a single system

    One of my coworkers just got a new laptop running Windows 7 Pro x64. We use a GPO to deploy the printers to every system, but for some reason it is not working on this system. I have been breaking my head over this for the past 3 hours now without any result. The strange thing is that gpresult /H seems to indicate that the GPO did run.   • Using pre-made patch cables on a punch down block?

    I need to add a 24 port switch to my wiring closet. In the (distant) past, I usually just punched each port of the switch to a 110 block on the wall (using hand-made cables), and cross connect between that and the 110 block that has the runs to each workstation. To save time, I'm thinking of buying 12 pre-made drop cables, cutting them in half (so 24 single ended cables), and punching those to my 110 block. The things I'm worried about are wire type (ie. solid vs. strands) and color scheme. I really don't know if they use different wire types (still?), but I remember that being an issue at one point. Can anyone comment on this? (I definitely won't feel comfortable trying to punch stranded wiring on my 110 block) Also, picking up a random pre-built cable I had laying around, I noticed that the color scheme used didn't appear to be T568B, but T568A, which would clash with the rest of my wall. Anyone know of an online source that specifies these things? I've looked at www.cablesforless.com (which does have nicer prices) and www.cablestogo.com (which seem stupid expensive) so far. Cables For Less doesn't specify wiring scheme, Cables To Go does specify T568B. Both seem to specify stranded wires instead of solid.

  • Cannot print certain colours on Ubuntu with HP Laser Printer

    We have a load of machines running Ubuntu in our office, they are either on 8.04 or 9.10. We have a server which connects a HP JetDirect that connects to a HP 3550 Colour Laser printer using CUPS. The problem we are having is we cannot print red, magenta or yellow at 100%, I've got a picture of the Ubuntu test page to demonstrate my problem: This is obviously a pretty big problem as we are constantly receiving documents with these colours and cannot successfully print them off, we cannot just switch the grayscale, our business depends on being able to print colour (seems trivial but we handle lots of artwork). We're using the recommended driver HP Color LaserJet 3550 footmatic/pxljr (recommended), there is another driver in the list labelled HP Color LaserJet 3550 footmatic/hpijs. These are production printers so need to make sure any setting change won't kick is in the nuts. It would appear HPIJS is for HP Inkjets, makes sense I guess. The problem doesn't occur in Windows. RESOLVED I've managed to solve the problem, I did indeed use the HPIJS driver (apparently for inkjets) but it seems to have worked, we're going to roll with it for now to see how we get on with it.

    I'd like to create a mini dropbox and print server on a small soho network of 5 users (all of them use windows XP desktops). The device need to run 24/7 or at least 12/7 (I can accept just workday hours too but the other two options would be better). Dropbox mini server: I mean I will have a 90gb dropbox on every computer on my network LAN syncing with It and the one onto It syncing to the web. Print Server: I have a Samsung A4 small laser printer, a HP500 Designjet Plotter, a Samsung Multifunction Machine (fax/print/scan/copy), a modern HP color A3 Deskjet printer and a HP laserjet A4 color printer. All of them need to be connected to this mini server. Fax/Scan server: since I have the above mentioned fax/print/scan/copy machine I would like to make people use It from/to their computers through the mini server. I thought to a recent EEEBOX machine because I heard good things about ATOM cpus and because It seems that a recent BIOS version could switch It off and on autonomously. I'd like to listen some advice from You. Best of all would be: - If You have something similar running for a long time - If You disagree with this hardware choice and If You would suggest some other device. - If You see any issues with my printing setup - Anything else ;) My budget is from Zero (using right sw to build something on top on a old PC) to 500€ max.

  • (Mac Intel) HP PS driver prints in B&W from Adobe Reader after installing Cannon PS driver

    I have a unique problem that leaves me at a loss as to where to start troubleshooting. We have three Macs we use for graphics, two of which are PowerPC and one which is Intel. They are set up to print to an HP 5500dn, but occasionally this printer gets tied up with a massive print job, so I installed the PS driver (iR-PSv1.81MacOSX) for the Cannon C3200 Printer/copier on each of the machines. Both of the PowerPC Macs installed without issue, but the Intel Mac exhibits strange behavior: I've confirmed that while the Cannon driver is installed (whether or not the Cannon is set up for printing in print settings), the HP 5500dn will print in color from Safari, but only prints in black and white from Adobe Reader. The Cannon printer itself has not exhibited any strange behavior As soon as the Cannon driver is uninstalled, the HP 5500dn prints in color from Adobe Reader again. We run a network of Windows PCs, and the 'Mac room' mostly takes care of itself, so we don't have any experienced Mac administrators onsite. The Cannon is capable of Appletalk, but the PS driver seemed easier to work with (and Appletalk is currently disable on the Cannon. I'm not against using the Appletalk compatible drivers, but I would rather use the PS driver if at all possible - I don't want to open up the proverbial can of worms. If someone has any clues or suggestions that would help troubleshoot this problem, I would be grateful. I've already done some googling, but due to the obscure nature of this problem, I haven't been very successful.   • How do I improve my screen resolution in Windows Remote Desktop?

    I'm RDP'ing into a Win2K3 machine from a WinXP machine, and I cannot stand the low screen resolution I get on the Win2K3 box. Text is too large and the graphics/colors aren't very smooth. How do I improve this? If I right-click on the desktop of the remote machine and go to Properties - Settings, I see that the screen resolution is set to 1280x1024 (should be okay, I would think), and the color quality is Medium (16 bit) (not optimal) and I don't have the option to change either setting (because they're set in the .rdp file for the session, right?). If I move over to the Appearance tab, I see that font size is set to Normal, with no option to make it smaller. The thing is, these settings are close to what I have on the XP machine I'm RDP'ing in from. The only difference (in those settings) is the color quality, which is 32 bit. Any ideas on how I can improve the situation? Other tidbits: The graphics card on the Win2K3 machine is ATI ES1000. I think I have the latest drivers for it. I'm running VMware Workstation on the Win2K3 machine, and if I create a Win2K3 VM and RDP into it from the XP machine, the resolution is just fine.

  • Ubuntu 10.04 RGBA(Transparent theme) bug

    I tried to follow this tutorial frome ghacks.net. But I end up with a bug. Everytime I try to change the desktop background or the theme. It opens up lots of folders. And then close it back again. So I cannot do anything when I try to change the background or the theme to the default. Here is the tutorial And I can't even shutdown my machine now, please help. EDIT I tried executing these commands in the terminal sudo add-apt-repository ppa:erik-b-andersen/rgba-gtk sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install gnome-color-chooser gtk2-module-rgba sudo apt-get install murrine-themes And it installed gnome color changer. It works, and the windows became transparent, but I can't change to the default theme and I can't put a background Here's the screenshot, when I try to change something in the preferences: Its just okay if I can't change the theme, but it won't let me change the background either. Or maybe the background is changed but its transparent just like the other windows. You can see that in the taskbar(or whatever its called in Ubuntu). Its full. What can I do to atleast make the background visible.

    Like the title says, "In Excel, when a cell has multiple conditional formatting rules that evaluate true, is it possible to have the cell "visually cycle" through all the formats that evaluated true? If not, suggestions on what to do would be appreciated!" I'm creating an employee schedule for a business that has multiple job areas that need to have an employee assigned to cover. The schedule is currently set up with the date on the top row, employee list down the left column, and the employee's assigned "job area" cross-referencing with the date on the top row. Originally it was set up where if every required "job area" didn't have someone assigned to it, the date would (via conditional formatting) change to red. I've set it up now that if a condition isn't met, the date will change to the color of the "job area" that doesn't have an employee assigned to it. However, there are cases where multiple job areas don't have an employee assigned, but the date will only change color based on the first condition that isn't met. It'd be nice if there was some way for the date cell to cycle through the different colors that correspond to the job areas where no one is assigned. I have a hunch that's not possible though. If it is possible, I'd love to know how to do it. And if it isn't, if anyone has any suggestions on how I can modify the Excel sheet to make it easier to identify the job areas that don't have anyone assigned to them, I would appreciate it. FYI This schedule goes out months in advance.

  • Can I use @import to import Kod's default style sheet into my own?

    I understand that Kod is being actively developed and is prone to drastic changes in any area. I would like to modify some small things (like font face and size or certain colors) while still being able to benefit from any changes or updates to the default Kod stylesheet. I thought that I would be able to @import the default stylesheet into my own to achieve this. This is what ~/.kod/custom.css would look like, @import url("file:///Applications/Kod.app/Contents/Resources/style/default.css"); /* Change the default font face and color. */ body { font-family: Menlo, monospace; color: #efefef; } This stylesheet was set with the following defaults command, per the comments at the top of Kod's default CSS file: defaults write se.hunch.kod style/url ~/.kod/custom.css Unfortunately, this didn't work. When I first tried to reload the style, Kod crashed. It opened fine again, but the @import statement wasn't working, and Kod crashed every time I saved the custom.css file. Am I doing something wrong? Did I write my @import statement wrong? Is that not how @import is supposed to work? Did I miss some sort of documentation or Kod Google Groups post that mentions that Kod explicitly disallows this?

  • Mac OS X Terminal.app Ubuntu 9.10 SSHD and incorrect keyboard mapping

    Does anyone have any Idea how to handle this? I can't stand connecting to certain Ubuntu boxes via Mac OS X because of issues with keyboard layout etc. I have set TERM=vt100 and TERM=xterm-color in Ubuntu .bashrc and also in the Terminal.app advanced preferences and nothing seems to fix this issue. Trying to use arrow keys on slim silver keyboard results in ^[[A etc. From Answer OS X 10.6.4 When I try to run /lib/terminfo/x/xterm-color I get permission denied? Maybe this is the issue?! Regular bash login shell. If I sudo often it works. Which leads me to believe the above permissions problem is the cause.   • Make reading more comfortable for the eyes

    First, I read the topics about displays. Sadly the "BenQ FP241WZ" is a no go, for ~715 eur it's way too much. I would need some ideas about how could I make reading less tiring. Basically I didn't have this problem back then. But now, I'm reading some books, and also, have to read a lot a day. (A LOT). I look like some hardcore 0-24 gamer when I "finish" :). Think about things like.. background color (like I read 'dark yellow' color + black tint helps), font size, fonts (!) cleartype settings (should be off?) and so on. Display: BenQ E2200 HD (yeah cheap, eek, etc. Poor-man's LCD. :)) My CRT display is far away at the minute. So that is out of question. Also, my ThinkPad is here (T500), but I don't know about it's display. It comes with 1280x800 resolution and that's all I know (you can search back from that the FRU number, but I couldn't find it now). What could I do? (Or basically everyone in such a situation?)

Current efforts include: Using translate transform Using animation on Canvas dependency properties (Left, Right) Using animation on custom dependency property (Point) and using drawing visuals (formattedtext) Using CompositionTarget.Rendering But the animation is still choppy and resource intensive. Checklist: Confirmed no software rendering is taking place (ms performance tool and checking RenderCapability.Tier) Calling freeze on any imaginable object Running app on dual core machine with decent graphic card (NVidia 9600) Disabled any bitmap effect and transparency Checked all marquee controls out there (same issues) Any ideas (or better yet code example)?

  • Mac - Flash file not loaded in independent flash player

    Hi, I am working on an independent application to play flash files on Mac. I have already done the same for Linux, and it works flawlessly but on mac for some reason flash is not drawing to my window. It is not throwing any kind of error too. I am using Flash player 10, that would mean that I am using the Core Graphics drawing model. I am able to send mouse events to flash and wrote a sample plugin to check if there was a problem in the context that I was sending, but my sample plugin draws properly to the window. I am getting a call for NPN_InvalidateRect twice and as a response I send an update Event back to flash. I drew a dummy rectangle to check that my context is correct. I have flipped the context to make the origin as top left corner. On doing right click on the debug version of the flash player it shows the following message: "Movie not loaded..." Can anyone give me any idea why is the content not being drawn? I would really appreciate the help, as I have been struggling with it for more than a month now.     We have this dynamic uploader which creates a new instance of swfupload. I'm a little bit confused with the outputs produced by firefox and ie. Firefox have the same output as chrome, safari and opera. Whenever I clicked a button for adding a new instance, the previous instances of swfupload in firefox refresh while IE don't. I want to use L2E since it s very convenient to my company's apps, I created a demo project, the demo does run on every machine but when I, lets say, press a button that has some code that uses the entity I get this error: specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. note that I get this error only on machines that does not have VS2008 installed, on these machines (the ones with VS2008) the demo works well. any advice is appreciated. I am using MySql server with Mysql Conector 6.3 and the model is created with ADO.Net entitiy model.     I have a problem with a bound user control writing back to it's datasource on a NetCF forms application. The application is too complex to post code, so I made a toy version to show you. I create a form, usercontrol with a combobox, a class (testBind) and another class (TestLookup). I bind a property of the usercontrol ("value") to a property ("selectedValue") on the testBind class. The testBind class implements INotifyPropertyChanged. I create a few fascade methods on the user control to bind the contained combobox to a BindingList(of TestLookup). I create a button to show the value of the testBind bound property (in a MessageBox). The messagebox returns "-1" every time regardless of the combobox entry selected. I can take the EXACT same code, paste it in a full framework Forms app and it will return the correct value of the selected combobox entry.     HI COMUNITY!!!! I want to use L2E since it s very convenient to my company's apps, I created a demo project, the demo does run on every machine but when I, lets say, press a button that has some code that uses the entity I get this error: specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. note that I get this error only on machines that does not have VS2008 installed, on these machines (the ones with VS2008) the demo works well. any advice is appreciated. I am using MySql server with Mysql Conector 6.3 and the model is created with ADO.Net entitiy model.     Hey guys I have a little issue here. I have a panel where I am drawing a string. This is a game so I keep redrawing the score in order to update it. However when I draw it again it is drawn on top of the previous score so it looked all garbled up. Any ideas how to fix this? comp2d.drawString(GetScore(Score),ScoreX,ScoreY);
