• How to run Spring 3.0 PetClinic in tomcat with Hibernate backed JPA

  OK, this probably is supposed to be the easiest thing in the world, but I've been trying for the entire day, and it's still not working.. Any help is highly appreciated! What I did: Downloaded Tomcat 6.0.26 & Spring 3.0.1 Downloaded PetClinic from https://src.springframework.org/svn/spring-samples/petclinic Built & deployed petclinic.war. Ran fine with default TopLink persistence. Edited webapps/WEB-INF/spring/applicationContext-jpa.xml and changed jpaVendorAdaptor from TopLink to Hibernate. Edited webapps/WEB-INF/web.xml and changed context-param from applicationContext-jdbc.xml to applicationContext-jpa.xml Copied everything in the Spring 3.0.1 distribution to TOMCAT_HOME/lib. Launched tomcat. Saw Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: ClassLoader [org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader] does NOT provide an 'addTransformer(ClassFileTransformer)' method. Specify a custom LoadTimeWeaver or start your Java virtual machine with Spring's agent: -javaagent:spring-agent.jar Uncommented line <Loader loaderClass="org.springframework.instrument.classloading.tomcat.TomcatInstrumentableClassLoader"/> in webapps/META-INF/context.xml. Same error. Added that line to TOMCAT_HOME/context.xml Deployed without error. • Stop lazy loading or skip loading a property in NHibernate? Proxy cannot be serialized through WCF

  Consider I have a parent, child relationship class and mapping. I am using NHibernate to read the object from the database, and intended to use WCF to send the object across the wire. Goal For reading the parent object, I want to selectively, at different execution path, decide when I would want to load the child object. Because I don't want to read more than what I needed. Those partially loaded object must be able to sent through WCF. When I mean I don't load it, neither side will access such property. Problem When such partially loaded object is being sent through WCF, as those property is marked as [DataContract], it cannot be serialized as the property is lazy load proxy instead of real known type. What I want to archive, or solution that I can think of lazy=false or lazy=true doesn't work. Former will eagerly fetch all the relationships, latter will create a proxy. But I want nothing instead - a null would be the best. I don't need lazy load. I hope to get a null for those references that I don't want to fetch. A null, but not just a proxy. This will makes WCF happy, and waste less time to have a lazy-load proxy constructed. Like could I have a null proxy factory? -OR- Or making WCF ignoring those property that's a proxy instead of real. I tried the IDataContractSurrogate solution, but only parent is passed to GetObjectToSerialize, I never observe an proxy being passed through GetObjectToSerialize, leaving no chance to un-proxy it. Edit After reading the comments, more surfing on the Internet... It seems to me that DTO would shift major part of the computation to the server side. But for the project I am working on, 50% of time the client is "smarter" than the server and the server is more like a data store with validation and verification. Though I agree the server is not exactly dumb - I have to decide when to fetch the extra references already, and DTO will make this very explicit. Maybe I should just take the pain. I didn't know http://automapper.codeplex.com/ before, this motivates me a little more to take the pain. On the other hand, I found http://trentacular.com/2009/08/how-to-use-nhibernate-lazy-initializing-proxies-with-web-services-or-wcf/, which seems to be working with IDataContractSurrogate.GetObjectToSerialize.

• Android Packaging Problem: resources.ap_ does not exist

  I am trying to fix a problem in Eclipse for like 3 hours and I haven't made any progress. Tomorrow is the customer coming to look at my app, and I have no time left. This is really frustrating! This morning when I was coding and I wanted to run my app on my device Eclipse crashed all of a sudden. 'aapt.exe has stopped working' After this Eclipse wasn't starting anymore. It froze at the splash image. I looked on the internet and tried different solutions like going back to Java SE 6 update 20, changing .ini file etc. in the end reinstalling Eclipse did the job. Shortly after that the 'aapt.exe has stopped working' returned. I found a solution by changing my projects target. 1.5, 1.6, 2.2 doesn't matter, as long as it's different than the one before. Now I get the Error generating final archive: java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\xxx\bin\resources.ap_ does not exist error. I tried clean but that doesn't work. Deleting and automatically regenarting R.java also didn't work. I ran the same code in Netbeans with the Android plugin and there it gives me the 'aapt.exe has stopped working' again :( Please guys, how can I fix this? Edit: I think I may have found the reason. It's a small png file which I repeat in a .xml file. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <bitmap xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:src="@drawable/bg" android:tileMode="repeat" /> This file has worked from the first time without any problems. I deleted it from the drawable folder, waited for an error message, and then added it back. The red x next to the foldername got away, but still nothing different...

• Getting JAX-WS client work on Weblogic 9.2 with ant

  I've recently had lots of issues trying to deploy a JAX-WS web servcie client on Weblogic 9.2. It turns out there is no straightforward guide on how to achieve this, so I decided to put together this short wiki entry hoping it might be useful for others. Firstly, Weblogic 9.2 does not support web servcies using JAX-WS in general. It comes with old versions of XML-related java libraries that are incompatible with the latest JAX-WS (similar issues occur with Axis2, only Axis1 seems to be working flawlessly with Weblogic 9.x but that's a very old and unsupported library). So, in order to get it working, some hacking is required. This is how I did it (note that we're using ant in our legacy corporate project, you probably should be using maven which should eliminate 50% of those steps below): Download the most recent JAX-WS distribution from https://jax-ws.dev.java.net/ (The exact version I got was JAXWS2.2-20091203.zip) Place the JAX-WS jars with the dependencies in a separate folder like lib/webservices. Create a patternset in ant to reference those jars: Include the patternset in your WAR-related goal. This could look something like: (not the flatten="true" parameter - it's important as Weblogic 9.x is by default not smart enough to access jars located in a different lcoation than WEB-INF/lib inside your WAR file) In case of clashes, Weblogic uses its own jars by default. We want it to use the JAX-WS jars from our application instead. This is achieved by preparing a weblogic-application.xml file and placing it in META-INF folder of the deplotyed EAR file. It should look like this: javax.jws. javax.xml.bind. javax.xml.crypto. javax.xml.registry. javax.xml.rpc. javax.xml.soap. javax.xml.stream. javax.xml.ws. com.sun.xml.api.streaming.* Remember to place that weblogic-application.xml file in your EAR! The ant goal for that may look similar to: <jar destfile="${warfile}" basedir="${wardir}"/> <ear destfile="${earfile}" appxml="resources/${app.name}/application.xml"> <fileset dir="${dist}" includes="${app.name}.war"/> <metainf dir="resources/META-INF"/> </ear> Also you need to tell weblogic to prefer your WEB-INF classes to those in distribution. You do that by placing the following lines in your WEB-INF/weblogic.xml file: true And that's it for the weblogic-related configuration. Now only set up your JAX-WS goal. The one below is going to simply generate the web service stubs and classes based on a locally deployed WSDL file and place them in a folder in your app: Remember about the keep="true" parameter. Without it, wsimport generates the classes and... deletes them, believe it or not! For mocking a web service I suggest using SOAPUI, an open source project. Very easy to deploy, crucial for web servcies intergation testing. We're almost there. The final thing is to write a Java class for testing the web service, try to run it as a standalone app first (or as part of your unit tests) And then try to run the same code from withing Weblogic. It should work. It worked for me. After some 3 days of frustration. And yes, I know I should've put 9 and 10 under a single bullet-point, but the title "10 steps to deploy a JAX-WS web service under Web logic 9.2 using ant" sounds just so much better. Please, edit this post and improve it if you find something missing!

  Does anyone know how best to determine the specific underlying cause of this exception? Consider a WCF service that is supposed to use Powershell 2.0 remoting to execute MSBuild on remote machines. In both cases the scripting environments are being called in-process (via C# for Powershell and via Powershell for MSBuild), rather than 'shelling-out' - this was a specific design decision to avoid command-line hell as well as to enable passing actual objects into the Powershell script. • Eclipse buildtime and runtime classpaths for easy execution of junit test cases

  Hey, I've a large eclipse project with multiple junit classes. I'm trying to strike a balance between adding runtime resources to the eclipse project classpath, and the need to configure mutliple junit launch configurations. I realise the default eclipse build classpath is inherited by all unit test configurations, but some of my tests require extra runtime resources. I could add these resources to the build classpath, but this does slow my overall project build time (since it has to keep more files in synch). I don't like the idea of including * resources and jars on the runtime classpath. The two options that i have are these, the positive and negative cases as i see it are listed 1 : Add all runtime resources to eclipse classpath. POS I can select a unit test and run it without having to configure the test classpath. POS Extra resources on build classpath means eclipse slows down. NEG More difficult to ensure each test uses the correct resources. 2 : Configure the classpath of each unit test POS I know exactly what resources are being used by a test. POS Smaller build classpath means quicker build and execution by eclipse. NEG Its a pain having to setup multiple separate junit runtime classpaths. Ideally i'd like to configure one base junit runtime configuration, which takes the default eclipse build classpath, adds extra runtime jars and resources. This configuration could then be reused by the specific junit test cases, Is anything like this possible? • Using MigLayout, why is a JButton following a JTable unresponsive and how to fix this?

  Hi everyone, I am having a mind-boggling problem regarding the use of a JButton following a JTable with MigLayout. It is totally unresponsive unless I push it far enough past the JTable (then it can behave correctly). I have tried running the code with both the MigLayout JAR of the version we use for end user products and with the very most recent one; same result. We recently decided to upgrade to GWT 2.0. We've already updated the eclipse project and we are able to successfully run the application in dev-mode. • How to link C# and C++ assemblies into a single executable

  I have VS2008 solution containg a project that generates a C# executable that references a project that generates a dll containing both C++/CLI and unmanaged C++. I would like to merge these into a single executable, as the C++ dll contains security code that I want to embed in the main executable. I cannot use ILMerge, as the dll contains both managed and unmanaged code. The suggested solution seems to be to use link.exe to link the C# assembly with the C++ object files. This is what I am trying to do. I manually edited the project file for the c# executable to generate a netmodule. I added a post build step to the executable project to run link.exe to link the c# netmodule and the compiled C++ object files together, then run mt.exe to merge the assembly manifests created by both projects. This runs successfully, but the exe still contains a reference to and uses the c++ types defined in the dll generated by the normal build process for the C++ project. I then specified /NOASSEMBLY in the project settings for the C++ dll, so it also generates a netmodule. In the C# project, I removed the reference to the C++ project, but added a project dependancy in the solution. I manually edited the C# project file to include similar to: <ItemGroup> <AddModules Include="..\Debug\librarycode.netmodule" /> </ItemGroup> i.e. to reference the C++ netmodule that is now generated by the C++ project. However, now the linker step in my post build event fails with: error LNK2027: unresolved module reference 'librarycode.netmodule' fatal error LNK1311: 1 unresolved module references: This is entirely understandable, as I am not linking in the librarycode netmodule; I am linking in the C++ object files used to generate the netmodule instead. So in short, how do I merge a c# executable and C++ object files into a single assembly? What have I missed?   I'm using an XML schema document to validate incoming data documents, however the schema appears be failing during compilation at run time because it refers to a complex type which part of an external schema. The external schema is specified in a element at the top of the document. I had thought it might be an access problem, so I moved a copy of the external document to a localhost folder. I get the same error, so now I'm wondering if there might be some sort of issue with the use of the element. I wondered if the # signs in the namespace definitions were causing a problem, but removing them had no effect, it just changed what the error looked like (i.e. "Type 'http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig:KeyInfoType' is not declared." versus "Type 'http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#:KeyInfoType' is not declared.") My suspicion is that there's something about the processing of the element that I'm missing. Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks!

• Cannot connect to MySQL with JDBC - Connection Timeout - Ubuntu 9.04

  I am running Ubuntu and am ultimately trying to connect Tomcat to my MySQL database using JDBC. It has worked previously but after a reboot the instance now fails to connect. Both Tomcat 6 and MySQL 5.0.75 are on the same machine Connection string: jdbc:mysql:///localhost:3306 I can connect to MySQL on the command line using the mysql command The my.cnf file is pretty standard (Available on request) has bind address: 127.0.0.1 I cannot Telnet to the MySQL port despite netstat saying MySQL is listening I have one IpTables rule to forward 80 - 8080 and no firewall I'm aware of. I'm pretty new to this and I'm not sure what else to test. I don't know whether I should be looking in etc/interfaces and if I did what to look for. It's weird because it used to work but after a reboot it's down so I must have changed something.... :). I realise a timeout indicates the server is not responding and I assume it's because the request isn't actually getting through. I installed MySQL via apt-get and Tomcat manually. • Releasing an OLE IStorage file handle in C#

  I'm trying to embed a PDF file into a Word document using the OLE technique described here: http://blogs.msdn.com/brian_jones/archive/2009/07/21/embedding-any-file-type-like-pdf-in-an-open-xml-file.aspx I've tried to implement to C++ code provided in C# so that the whole project's in one place and am almost there except for one roadblock. When I try to feed the generated OLE object binary data into the Word document I get an IOException. IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Wherever\Whatever.pdf.bin' because it is being used by another process. There is a file handle open the .bin file and I don't know how to get rid of it. I don't know a huge amount about COM - I'm winging it here - and I don't know where the file handle is or how to release it. Here's what my C#-ised code looks like. Then, follow the example configuration file named mysql-ds.xml in the $JBOSS_HOME/docs/examples/jca directory that comes with a JBoss binary installation. • NoSQL DB for .Net document-based database (ECM)

  I'm halfway through coding a basic multi-tenant SaaS ECM solution. Each client has it's own instance of the database / datastore, but the .Net app is single instance. The documents are pretty much read only (i.e. an image archive of tiffs or PDFs) I've used MSSQL so far, but then started thinking this might be viable in a NoSQL DB (e.g. MongoDB, CouchDB). The basic premise is that it stores documents, each with their own particular indexes. Each tenant can have multiple document types. e.g. One tenant might have an invoice type, which has Customer ID, Invoice Number and Invoice Date. Another tenant might have an application form, which has Member Number, Application Number, Member Name, and Application Date. So far I've used the old method which Sharepoint (used?) to use, and created a document table which has int_field_1, int_field_2, date_field_1, date_field_2, etc. Then, I've got a "mapping" table which stores the customer specific index name, and the database field that will map to. I've avoided the key-value pair model in the DB due to volume of documents. This way, we can support multiple document types in the one table, and get reasonably high performance out of it, and allow for custom document type searches (i.e. user selects a document type, then they're presented with a list of search fields). However, a NoSQL DB might make this a lot simpler, as I don't need to worry about denormalizing the document. However, I've just got concerns about the rest of the data around a document. We store an "action history" against the document. This tracks views, whether someone emails the document from within the system, and other "future" functionality (e.g. faxing). We have control over the document load process, so we can manipulate the data however it needs to be to get it in the document store (e.g. assign unique IDs). Users will not be adding in their own documents, so we shouldn't need to worry about ACID compliance, as the documents are relatively static. So, my questions I guess : Is a NoSQL DB a good fit Is MongoDB the best for Asp.Net (I saw Raven and Velocity, but they're still kinda beta) Can I store a key for each document, and then store the action history in a MSSQL DB with this key? I don't need to do joins, it would be if a person clicks "View History" against a document. How would performance compare between the two (NoSQL DB vs denormalized "document" table) Volumes would be up to 200,000 new documents per month for a single tenant. My current scaling plan with the SQL DB involves moving the SQL DB into a cluster when certain thresholds are reached, and then reviewing partitioning and indexing structures.

  I'm using glassfish 2.1 and 2.1.1. If I've a bean method annotated by @TransactionAttribute(value = TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRES_NEW). After doing some JPA stuff the commit fails in the afterCompletion-Phase of JTS. GlassFish logs this failure only. And the caller of this bean method has no chance to know something goes wrong. So I wonder, if there is any definition how a jee 5 server has to handle exceptions while commiting. I would expect any runtime exception. I'm using stateless beans. With SessionSynchronisation I could get the commit failue, if I use statefull beans. Is it possible to intercept, so I can throw an exception, that I've declared in my interface? When thrown nothing is painted. Another interesting thing is the timing of the throwing. I am unable to find any logical patern, as sometimes it is thrown as soon as I initiate the class and sometimes it needs more then five minutes. In addition to this, as far as I tested there is no single action that calls repaint() that triggers it or rather all do. I am new to Java and all the other exceptions had the class and row number of where they were thrown so I don't know what to do here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. • How to packing Resources in Maven Project?

  I am looking for suggestion in putting image file maven web project. One of classes under src/main/java need to use an image file. My problem is, if i put image file under src/main/webapp/images then application server cannot find that path on runtime(where myeclipse can ) because war archive do not have specified path "src/main/webapp/images". My question is where should i put the image file that my project can find it without prompting any error or exception. • How to actually use Swing Application Framework?

  Hello, I'd like to learn how to effectively use Swing Application Framework. Most of the the examples I've found are blog entries that just explain how to great it is to extend SingleFrameApplication and override its startup method, but that's about it. Sun's article is almost two years old, as is the project's own introduction, and there has apparently been some evolution since then. Are there any recent and thorough tutorials/HOWTOs available anywhere? There is JavaDoc of course, but it's hard to get the big picture from there. Any pointers are appreciated. Update: I realized that there's a mailing list archive at the project's site. While somewhat clumsy (compared to StackOverflow ;) it seems to be quite active. Still it's a pity that there are no real tutorials anywhere. The information is scattered here and there. Update 2: Let me clarify - I'm not having trouble using Swing (the widget toolkit) itself, I'm talking about its Application Framework, which is supposed to ease things like application lifecycle (startup, exit and whatever happens between them), action management etc. - that is, things that most Swing applications will need. It's cool to get such framework to be standard part of Java. The only problem is to learn how it's intended to be used. Update 3: For the interested, there was just some discussion at the project's forum regarding the current state and future of JSR 296. Shortly: the current version 1.03 is considered to be quite usable, but the API is not stable and it will change to the final version in Java 7. The package name will also change so Java 7 will not break current applications made on SAF. Update 4: Karsten Lentzsch stated at the above mentioned forum: "I doubt that it can be included in Java 7; and I'll vote against it.". I would rather not question the sincerity of this great guru, and it's certainly wise not to let anything flawed to slip into the core JDK, but frankly it's a strange situation - he is the author of JGoodies Swing Suite which is partly a commercial competitor of JSR 296, and he is sitting in the committee that will decide whether this JSR will be included to standard Java. It was the same thing with JSR 295 Beans Binding which I wrote about earlier. Given the current state of SAF, I think the best solution is to wrap the current implementation into a "homebrew" framework, which can then accommodate possible changes to the existing API.
