  • 3 Root accounts in MySQl database

    Hello, I have managed to get mySQL running under Ubuntu 8.10, I am now diligently trying to secure the database and am adding passwords for the root users. My question: I have a root user under the host "kickseed" with no password set I have no idea what kickseed is as the database is installed under localhost, on searching around i have discovered that this is something to do with the ubuntu OS itself. Is it safe to delete this user account from MySQL or is it used for something by the OS? If i need to keep it should i /can i protect it with a password? Also i have another root account under the host IP 127.0.0.1 again can i delete this? My absolute preference would be to have only one account with root access but i do not want to delete these accounts if they are necessary. Thanks for tolerating a newbie Regards Hairby

  • VirtualBox: VBoxManage modifyhd hosting on mac os x resize not supported

    I am a complete newbie. i'm hosting VM on OS X using virtualbox. I'm trying to resize the virtual hard drive by using the following command in the terminal. VBoxManage modifyhd "<absolute path including name and extension>" --resize 20480 I used a disk size of 25480 (i'm not really sure how to pick the correct size. and I got the following error: Progress state: VBOX_E_NOT_SUPPORTED VBoxManage: error: Resize hard disk operation for this format is not implemented yet! virtualbox version 4.1.18 I don't really even know what to ask. What am I doing wrong?

  • How do I configure networking on CentOS 6 running on hyper-v?

    I'm not using legacy adapters, and i've installed Linux Integration Components 3.2. THe problem i'm facing is that the command 'setup' or 'system-config-network' doesn't list any network interfaces. If i run ifconfig -a i can see both the network cards i've attached. By setting a ip using ifconfig i can get network connectivity. The problem is that it's not persistent after a reboot. I'm a 100% centos newbie, but I figure it has something to do with that the centos installer couldn't see the NICs on install. How can I fix this?

  • No Other User In Task Manager Users Tab Windows 7

    I want to ask why there is only me on Task Manager's Users tab. Originally I wanted to be able to chat with other clients on my local network using msg command, but I can't found any other user. How to see other users on the same network? I use Work Network, and all of the users is using wifi to connect. I googled about it, but no information is close enough.   • Setting up Ubuntu Server for hosting Java web applications

    I'm trying to set up an Web Server running Ubuntu server to host some Java web applications, with MySQL running on it, an so on .. here is the tutorial I follow: perfect server ubuntu 11.10 The server configuration is: CPU S1155 INTEL Pentium G850 2.9GHz VGA 5GTs 3MB 65W MB Gigabyte GA-H77-D3H Ram 4x4Gb HDD 5x1TB Seagate (4 in RAID5 and 1 for Backup) The problem is that when I am trying to install the Server version of Ubuntu, when the installer asks me whether to activate ATA RAID Devices, and I click yes, he sees only that one, if I click no, he sees all 5 HDD's separate without any RAID, is this normal? I also tried to install the Desktop version on RAID5, but after restart, Ubuntu does't want to boot up, an underscore stands on the top of the screen. I am a newbie in servers and their configuration, in fact I am developer. I need a help from you guys.

Now while developing the application using the Visual Studio 2008 then Developer Web Server it provides when build the site was able to access the location. However when the site is deployed on the IIS its saying Unable to access the file because of insufficient permissions.     Please pardon the newbie question, but I can't seem to figure this out. I followed the Voxilla's tut to the tee: http://voxilla.com/2009/10/15/voxill...p-by-step-1457 But in making calls, my softphones connect, yet no audio (in either direction). I know from poking around the forums that this is generally caused by two factors: NAT and audio codecs. I (being new to the arena), however, don't know which. I believe I have Asterisk and the clients restricted to just ulaw, and I also believe I have the correct ports open, and my externip set correctly (I think the Voxilla AMI does this automatically, since it's in the cloud). I'm a bit lost. I'd be happy to post whatever configuration files that might help, provided you tell me where they are on the filesystem. But like I said before, this is effectively a vanilla install of Voxilla's own FreePBX AMI. I'd appreciate any help or guidance here. Thanks!

    I'm configuring a brand new HPC server and am interested in using SmartOS because of it's virtualization control and zfs features. Does this configuration make sense for a SmartOS HPC, or would you recommend an alternative? System Specs: 2x 8-core xeon 384 GB RAM 30 TB HDs with 2x512GB SSDs Uses: - zfs for serving data to different vms, and over the network; 1 SSD for L2ARC and 1 for ZIL - typically 1-2 ubuntu instances running R and custom C/C++ code My biggest concerns as a newbie to SmartOS and ZFS are: (1) will I get near-metal performance from ubuntu running on SmartOS if it is the only active vm? (2) how do I serve data from the global zfs pool to the containers and other network devices?

  • Very slow Windows 7 on Thinkpad T61

    I have a very strange problem with my fresh install of Windows 7 Profesional, 64bits on my Lenovo Thinkpad T61 : The overal performance is very slow, the disk is constantly spinning, even without any program running (after boot, no other programs installed). The boot process is very slow itself (4-5 minutes). I mention that the laptop was fine on XP until the upgrade. Thanks ! Additional info (as requested by the comments) : 2GB RAM Yes, I added all the manufacturer (Lenovo) drivers and updates (using the utility provided by Lenovo) Tried with both 32 and 64 bits editions. The 32 bits one is performing a little better, but not very usable either. The hdd has enough space (20 GB or so) The problem is still present on a fresh install, so no recycle bin emptying or unistall programs (there aren't any except plain 7) would help. I'm not a newbie, so no obvious causes are left unchecked

    Newbie questoin but I can't seem to figure it out. Using cwrsync which in turn calls ssh.exe from a Windows Vista box to Ubuntu. For below, user in ubuntu is 'linuxuser' and user on Windows box is 'winuser' - remote box is 'linuxhost' and windows box is 'winhost' Exported keys such that on the remote box /home/linuxuser/.ssh/authorized_keys is correctly populated. Problem is when I launch ssh it tries to write to /home/winuser/.ssh instead of /cygdrive/home/users/winuser/.ssh as below. c:\Program Files (x86)\cwRsync\binssh linuxuser@linuxhost Could not create directory '/home/winuser/.ssh'. The authenticity of host 'linuxhost (192.168.1.105)' can't be establish ed. RSA key fingerprint is 67:10:a9:49:6e:a3:2b:4a:a0:e0:b7:75:76:da:c3:04. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? Host key verification failed.

    Hello, I want to forward a port from my remote vps to my domestic server and I am quite a newbie with iptables. The problem is that I am using a dynamic dns service to reach my home server from the internet so I don't have a fixed ip and iptables doesn't like urls. The rules I am willing to use are these: -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth0 -d xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx --dport 8888 -j DNAT --to myhome.tld:80 -A FORWARD -p tcp -i eth0 -d myhome.tld --dport 80 -j ACCEPT Of course I recevie a Error BAD IP ADDRESS because of myhome.tld. What can I do?

  • Error in eclipse on run android project

    I am trying to get a simple hello world android project working in eclipse using an android emulator. I have been using the examples on developer.android.com. I actually did have a hello world app working. I then modified it's xml files to have a text input field and a button as in the second example shows on that site. This failed to run on the emulator. I then went back and tried to create another simple hello world project, but it fails to run. The console says "Waiting for HOME ('android.process.acore') to be launched, but nothing happens or sometimes a messenger in the emulator says "unfortunately Android Wear has stopped". Below is a sample error filter on the log file. I find trying to debug this is something new to me and I am not sure the best way to go about it.   • Mail sent from local Postfix marked as "possible phishing" in Outlook

    Hi folks, Sorry for the newbie question--this is not my area of expertise by a long shot. I work at a small development shop and we finally got around to doing code reviews. (Yay!) I set up an instance of Review Board -- an open-source code review tool -- on one of our local servers but it doesn't seem to like talking to our hosted Exchange server to send notification emails. I decided to just install Postfix on that same box and send mail from localhost, which is working much more reliably, but Outlook disables all links in the email announcements and marks it as possible phishing. What is making these emails look suspicious and what can I change? Would the best thing be to figure out how to relay to Exchange from Postfix? Thanks!

    Hi, My web server container is Tomcat 6.0.14 JVM 1.6.0_17-b04 BlazeDS 3.2.0.3978 Im sending request from the same local machine via AMF to BlazeDS server and only first request takes about 10secend to proceed. Each next request is preceeding correctly (very fast, less than 0.5s). Anyone know what's the reason of soo slow responsing? I'm a developer, not administrator so please be patient :)

  • Running projects from NTFS partition on Ubuntu

    I'm dual booting Windows 7/Ubuntu 12.04. I want to run C++/Java projects from a NTFS partition, where I keep generally all my files and projects. I fiddled with the fstab. One time I removed 'noexec', the other I changed it to 'exec'. After that,each time, I remounted the partition and it still didn't work. I tried using sudo mount -o remount,exec /media/mypartition It didn't work either. There was a somewhat similar question already, but it didn't have the proper answer for me or I didn't know how to make it work(note: I am a total newbie with Ubuntu and Linux in general).

  • How do you access usermin

    I have recently setup a web server with webmin, virtualmin and usermin on CentOS to host some websites and email, however I am unable to access usermin. I can access webmin from www.foobar.com:10000 but I can't access usermin from www.foobar.com:20000 This thread seems to have dealt within the same issue, however when I tried the command "telnet localhost 20000" it came back with a connection refused message. Any idea how to get this running. I'll let you know in advance that I am a linux newbie and this is a large learning experience, so don't rule out anything if you are thinking "oh, but he wouldn't be dumb enough to forget that" or the like
