• Why do users have to enter a 7-digit twitter PIN to grant my application access?

  I am implementing some ruby on rails code tweet stuff for my users. I am creating the proper oauth link...something like http://twitter.com/oauth/authorize?oauth_token=y2RkuftYAEkbEuIF7zKMuzWN30O2XxM8U9j0egtzKv But after my test account grants access to twitter, it pulls up a page saying "You've successfully granted access to . Simply return to and enter the following PIN to complete the process. 1234567" I have no idea where the user should enter this PIN and why they have to do that. I don't think this should be a necessary step. Twitter should be redirecting the user to the callback URL I provided in the application settings. Does anyone know why this is happening? UPDATE I found this article that states I need to send my users to this URL (note "authenticate" instead of "authorize"): http://twitter.com/oauth/authenticate?oauth_token=y2RkuftYAEkbEuIF7zKMuzWN30O2XxM8U9j0egtzKv I made the change but Twitter redirects the user to the authorize path after he clicks "Allow" which then gives him the 7 digit PIN again!

  Hello, We have a predominantly RESTful architecture for our product. This enables us to nicely implement almost all of the required functionality, except this new requirement thats come in. I need to implement a page which lets the user to large scale DB operations synchronously. They can stop the operation in between, if they realized they made a mistake (rather than waiting for it to complete and doing an undo operation) I was wondering if some one could give some pointers as to what would be the best way to implement such a functionality? • Using a C#.net DLL in Node.js / serverside javascript

  I have spent a while playing with node.js and exploring related frameworks such as express and geddy... and I am very impressed, especially with the WebSockets implementation in socket.io. I have a pet project that is an online game, the entire game engine is written in C# and I would like to know if there is anyway I can call the functions of this existing dll from a solution built using node.js, socket.io, express etc? The game engine itself is pretty complete; tested and robust. I am hoping there is some neat way of exposing its functionality without to much overhead. Thanks

• Multithreading/Parallel Processing in PHP

  I have a PHP script that will generate a report using PHPExcel from data queried from a MySQL DB. Currently, it is linear in processing in that it gets the data back from MySQL, reads in the Excel template, writes the data to the template, then outputs it. I have optimized the code to the point that the data is only iterated over once, and there is very little processing done on the PHP side. The query returns hundreds of lines in less than .001 seconds, so it is running fast enough. After some timing I have found my bottlenecks to be (surprise, surprise) reading the template and writing the output. I would like to do this: Spawn a thread/process to read the template Spawn a thread/process to fetch the data Return back to parent thread - Parent thread will wait until both are complete Proceed on as normal My main questions are is this possible, is it worth it? If yes to both, how would you tackle it? Also, it is PHP 5 on CentOS

  I have a various data.frames with columns of the same length where I am trying to multiple 2 rows together element-wise and then sum this up. What I would like to do is skip the multiplication with any missing values ( the 10th and 11th position from my above example), and then after the addition divide by the number of elements that were multiplied (11 from the above example). Most rows are complete and would just be multiplied by 13. Thank you!

• Rails migration to add boolean column to Postgres on Heroku

  I'm trying to execute a simple Rails migration to add a boolean column to an existing table. Here's the add_column call: add_column :users, :soliciting, :boolean, :null => false, :default => false However, after the migration runs (successfully, with no errors), I don't see the new column. If I go into the console and list the columns on the User table, for example, with this command: >> User.columns.each { |c| puts "#{c.name} : #{c.type}" } All the other columns show up, but not the one I just added with the migration. What's even more strange is that looking up a random user object yields the Postgres version of booleans (Ruby strings) >> User.find(1).soliciting => "t" However, the existing boolean columns all show up with standard Ruby boolean values of true and false. What's going on here? Is the migration actually complete? Why doesn't the column show up, yet is accessible in the model objects?

At the end of the program, it will print 2 million words to standard output. I am running the program on the screen. I forgot to redirect the output to a file. I know I won't be able to copy the data from the window. Is there a way to output the command to a file. I don't want to restart the program. Any thoughts?? Thank you. Bala

• How do I increase timeout for a cronjob/crontab?

  I have written a script that gets data from solr for which date is within the specified period, and I run the script using as a daily cron. The problem is the cronjob does not complete the task. If I manually run the script (for the same time period), it works well. If I reduce the specified time period, the script runs from the cron as well. So my guess is cronjob is timing out while running the script is there is much data to process. How do I increase the timeout for cronjob? PS - 1. The script I am running in cronjob is a bash script which runs a python script.

  i have this page displaying statement every 2 second (using javascript), at the end of it there is a link which the user can click. with IE it will click the link before javascript generated statement is completed. when i use Link.Click() (with Firefox it will throw exception, which is fine with me) is there a way to wait for javascript execution to complete before link gets clicked (IE)? The reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to compile a list of possible issues with our existing applications when migrating to Windows 7. Now, I can think of a few things myself: Writing to Eventlog Writing to Registry Keys outside of Current_User scope Getting an Environment variable etc... I really would like a more complete list and so far I've not come across a decent resource in which all this stuff is listed. Note that I'm not looking for ways of elevating the priviliges for the exsiting apps (which can be done by using a manifes), I'm simply idenitifying actions in code that might cause issues.

• Killing a deadlocked Task in .NET 4 TPL

  I'd like to start using the Task Parallel Library, as this is the recommended framework going forward for performing asynchronous operations. One thing I haven't been able to find is any means of forcible Abort, such as what Thread.Abort provides. My particular concern is that I schedule tasks running code that I don't wish to completely trust. In particular, I can't be sure this untrusted code won't deadlock and therefore I can't be certain if a Task I schedule using this code will ever complete. I want to stay away from true AppDomain isolation (due to the overhead and complexity of marshaling), but I also don't want to leave a Task thread hanging around, deadlocked. Is there a way to do this in TPL?

Problem is that the a new thread could be invoked while another thread on the delegate is still running and hasnt yet been EndInvoke'd. The program needs to be able to have the delegate run in more than one instance at a time if necessary and they all need to complete and have EndInvoke called. Once I start another BeginInvoke I lose the reference to the first BeginInvoke so I am unable to clean up the new thread with an EndInvoke. What is a clean solution and best practice to overcome this problem?

• jsonp is not firing beforeSend?

I tried using "beforeSend:" to show the loading animation but it seems like "beforeSend" is not getting fired. The animation works fine when the app is on the same domain (using jsonp) but when I move the app into a different server, everything works except "beforeSend" is not getting called. So users will not be able to see the loading animation. Is there any workaround for this?

• Compile OpenSSL from source using Xilinx EDK

  I want to use openSSL functions in my xilinx C++ project. So i downloaded the source and tried to compile using the makefile. But unfortunately the linux box I was provided did not contained the required software (perl5, make, etc) to compile the source using makefile. So as the second option i tried to compile the source as a shared library. So i made a new project using existing openSSL source. But all the attempts were failed since it gave lots of errors including missing headers, unknown defines etc. If someone knows how to compile openssl as a shared library using Xilinx toolchains please help me. It would be really helpful if someone can provide the complete project which can be opened using Xilinx EDK. If better alternative exists to use openssl with xilinx toolchains please explain that also. Thanks in advance....

• On MacOSX, in a C++ program, what guarantees can I have on file IO

  I am on MacOSX. I am writing a multi threaded program. One thread does logging. The non-logging threads may crash at any time. What conventions should I adopt in the logger / what guarantees can I have? I would prefer a solution where even if I crash during part of a write, previous writes still go to disk, and when reading back the log, I can figure out "ah, I wrote 100 complete enties, then I crashed on the 101th". • Problem with pre-beta sdk - even after reinstalling SDK 3.2

  I'm trying to upload the binary for a new app, but always get this errormessage: "The binary you uploaded was invalid. A pre-release beta version of the SDK was used to build the application." I know several people have asked a similar question, but I've tried all suggestions from the answers there without success. I used the XCode 4.0 beta 3 during development, and I've tried using it to compile for earlier releases (3.0, 3.1.3, 3.2 etc...) I've also tried downgrading to SDK 3.2, as well as removing 4.0 beta 3 and then installing SDK 3.2 as a fresh install. It seems to me that there might be some parameter in the "Edit Project Settings" that is sticking from the use of 4.0 beta 3, but I've tried to identify them without success. My last option seem to be a complete reinstall of both OS and SDK. Is there something else I might try first?

• tabIndex fails in an AS3 swf loaded into a flex app

I'm loading a AS3 swf containing a form (created by one of our designers) into a flex app. The swf's tabIndex properties work fine when the swf is viewed by itself, however, once it's loaded into the flex app: <mx:SWFLoader source="form.swf" top="20" horizontalCenter="0" id="formSwf" complete="swfCompleteHandler(event)"/> the form fields stop receiving focus on tab. I've been looking at the FocusManager in flex, for some sort of solution, but I can't seem to find any examples, and I'm not entirely sure I'm looking in the right place. Am I stuck redoing this form in flex?

• Why does ASP.Net locks when I update code with TortoiseSVN

  Hi, when I update Adobe Flash/Flex code that is not related to ASP.Net with TortoiseSVN (latest) on a Windows Server 2008, the complete website locks and stop responding. Is it ASP.Net recompiling my code, is it IIS 7 or is it Tortoise locking the file system? How can I prevent or minimize this if I need to do an update when 1000 users are using the ASP.Net website? UPDATE: Thanks to Aito and Bryan, I learned more about AppDomain. I found these two links where I discover that folder creation/deletion recycle the AppDomain in ASP.Net 2. --If TortoiseSVN creates folders in it's hidden .svn folders hierarchy, I guess it will lock the app! In the Windows XP world, there are packages available, like easyPHP, wampserver, uniformserver, that enable you to have a local webserver complete with php, mysql configured via an automatic installer. Really handy. I need the same on my new mac. I know mac os x comes with a local webserver. Is this already with php, mysql preinstalled? I'd like to have you guys advise on the easiest way to have this local lamp so that i can continue developing on this nice and shiny machine. thanks!

• ::LookupAccountSid API Extremely Slow When Targeting x64 Platform (Windows 7)

  During our application startup, we are making a call to ::LookupAccountSid(). When I build targeting the x86 architecture, this call is nearly instantaneous. However, when I target x64 (debug or release), the call generally takes over 40s to complete. Since this is occurring during application startup, the result is fairly unpleasant as it will appear to the user that the application is not launching. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a Dell Studio XPS 16 (Intel Core i7 Q 720). Our application is a native Windows application written in C++.   I'd built an WSSv3 application which upload files in small chunks; when every data piece arrives, I temporarly keep it into a SQL 2005 image data type field for performance reasons**. Problem come when upload ends; I need to move data from my SQL Server to Sharepoint Document Library through WSSv3 object model.
