  • Does Team Foundation support cross-app workitem groups?

    We're currently using Visual Source Safe and BugNet and looking to migrate up and away from VSS. I've been pushing for either SVN ( a) we're an ASP.NET shop, b) DCVS is not an option - no matter how much I like Hg ;-) or TFS. Well we finally got a new dev server, so I talked the boss into installing TFS on it (30 day trial). In the meantime, we had started experimenting with FogBugz. We really like FogBugz for about 80% of what we want to do, and the other 20% is probably stuff that we don't know what we want. I'm pushing for TFS because it allows for IDE integrated (mostly) everything. He's pushing for FogBugz because he can group tasks by customer and then project and manage everything from one dashboard. (which means I lose most of my IDE integration - no huge loss I agree) Does TFS support a single dashboard that would span all our solutions (in this case each solution is a full app that we sell to a vertical market client) and let us assign workitems to each solution-spanning-group? So for instance I think we envision something like this: PROJECT1 - Bugtracker and workitems PROJECT2 - Bugtracker and workitems PROJECT3 - Bugtracker and workitems CUSTOMER1 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT1, PROJECT2) CUSTOMER2 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT2, PROJECT3) CUSTOMER3 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT1, PROJECT3) Hopefully that makes sense. naturally it's more complicated than this but I think I've given the details enough to paint a picture. I offered the option of creating dummy projects per customer but he doesn't like that and it doesn't really give us the single dashboard view that we're hoping to end up with (and that FogBugz as we've sorta implmented things does do now). Has anyone got a good suggestion on a management app that would accomplish what both of us want?

  • Resume Activity with back button

    I have an application I am creating with a DashboardActivity & a SettingsActivity. On the dashboard, I have one object displayed, but when I go into settings, I want to be able to select/deselect X options. Once the user clicks the back button, I save that data locally and to the server. Once the phone receives a success message from the server that it was stored properly, I want to reload the dashboard. I thought I would do this with the onPause and onResume, but they are called when the DashboardActivity is first created. What would be the best way to reload the dashboard by calling my web service after the settings were saved to the server? Here is what I am doing when the back button is hit @Override public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) { //Save data to the server once the user hits the back button if ((keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_BACK)) { SchoolSearchActivity.this.divisionProxy = new DivisionProxy(SchoolSearchActivity.this.saveUserDivisionHandler); SchoolSearchActivity.this.divisionProxy.submitUserDivisions(SchoolSearchActivity.this.userDivisions, SchoolSearchActivity.this.user_id); //SchoolSearchActivity.this.finish(); //Toast.makeText(SchoolSearchActivity.this, "Divisions Saved",Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } return true; } The above opens an HTTP connection, and when the response is received, the handler processes the response. I am going to: 1) throw up a progress dialog box letting the user know it's being submitted to the server, and once a response is received, 2) go back to the previous activity and call the "refresh" webservice again. What's the best way to accomplish 1 & 2?

  • Simulating mouse clicks on Mac OS X does not work for some applications.

    I'm writing an application for Mac OS X 10.6 and later in C++. One part of the application needs to simulate mouse movement and mouse clicks. I do this currently by posting CGEvent objects using CGEventPost(kCGHIDEventTap, event);. This works, for the most part - I can simulate mouse movement and clicks just fine, but it seems to fail in some areas. For example: In Mozilla Firefox and Safari, I can click on all the menus, but cannot click on a link within a website. When I try, the link is highlighted, but the browser never follows the link. However, I can right-click on a link, select "open link in new tab", and everything works as expected. Solved - creating the mouse event using CGEventCreateMouseEvent(...) makes the event work within web browser. I can click on the "Dashboard" icon to brink up the dashboard, but I cannot click on the "i" button on any of the dashboard widgets. Similarly, clicking on any of the search results from the spotlight search widget doesn't work either. This inconsistency is along application boundaries. What might be the cause?

  • NTFS-compressing Virtual PC disks (on host and/or guest)

    I'm hoping someone here can answer these definitively: Does putting a VHD file in an NTFS-compressed folder on the host improve performance of the virtual machine, diminish performance, or neither? What about using NTFS compression within the guest? Does using compresssion on either the host or the guest lead to any problems like read or write errors? If I were to put a VHD in a compressed folder on the host, would I benefit from compacting it? I've seen references to using NTFS compression on quite a few VPC "tips and tricks" blog posts, and it seems like half of them say to never do it and the other half say that not only does it save disk space but it actually can improve performance if you have a fast CPU and your primary performance bottleneck is the disk.

  • Cross-Platform Camera API

    Hi, I'm now building a video transforming filter that have to transform video frames in real-time. One of the key requirements of the filter is to have high performance to minimize the number of dropped frames during the transform. Another requirement that is of lower priority but also nice to have is to make it cross-platform (both PC's and Mobile devices). The application is built in C++. Now my question is: is there any API that is more portable and has a similar or better performance characteristics than DirectShow? as DirectShow's portability is only limited to Windows-based devices (PCs and Windows Mobile&CE platforms). Also I've notices that for example using HTC's custom camera API has far better performance than what DirectShow offers. If you want to check this, try to build a filter in DirectShow that will multiply each color by 2 and render that in real-time from camera on the screen. Then do the same with HTC's API. There is almost 4-5x performance boost with vendor's specific API. So it'd be very nice if the library used the device-specific implementation of the driver, as performance is critical when doing this transforms on a mobile device (which is about ~500 MHz).

  • Given n report thumbnails, how do I create a Flex Effect that zooms into the selected report?

    I am worried about performance issues. If I just render all n reports zoomed out, then that will cost me in performance. Even animating a zoomed out report to zoom in, will also cost me in performance because it has to recalculate all the UIComponent's of my report as it transitions from zoomed out to zoomed in-to view. Any solutions/suggestions welcome. Let me know if you need clarification.

  • How can I test a form that requires the entry of two random characters from a security phrase?

    I need to test a two-stage login system which first asks for your email address and password and then presents the user with two select lists containing [a-zA-Z0-9]. The labels beside the drop down's are of the form 'Select character X from your security phrase', where X is a random character index from a known security phrase. I'd rather not stub the code for an acceptance test, so is it possible to write a matcher in cucumber which will, given that we know the whole phrase, select the required character in each of the two lists?   • How can I copy files in the middle of a build in Team System?

    I have two solutions that I want to include in a build. Solution two requires the dll's from solution one to successfully build. Solution two has a Binaries folder where the dll's from solution one need to be copied before building Solution two. I've been trying an AfterBuild Target, hoping that it would copy the items after the first SolutionToBuild, but it doesn't fire then.     The following procedure gives me an error when I invoke it using the CALL statement: CREATE DEFINER=`user`@`localhost` PROCEDURE `emp_performance`(id VARCHAR(10)) BEGIN DROP TABLE IF EXISTS performance; CREATE TABLE performance AS SELECT time_in, time_out, day FROM attendance WHERE employee_id = id; END The error says "Unknown table 'performance' ". This is my first time actually using stored procedures and I got my sources from Google. I just cant figure out what I am doing wrong.

  • How to deploy custom MBean to Tomcat?

    Hi, I'm trying to deploy a custom mbean to a tomcat. This mbean is not part of a webapp. It should be instantiated when tomcat starts. My problem is, I can't find any complete documentation about how to deploy such a mbean. I'm getting different exceptions, depending on my configuration. Has anyone hints, a complete documentation or has implemented a mbean by himself and can post an example?   • Magento My Account Layout XML Problem

    Hi there, I'm having issues getting the customer.xml layout file to work properly for the customer's "my account" pages. The navigation links and the previously ordered items that are usually on the left hand side of the page won't show up on the page, but if I change the reference name to "content" in the xml file, it shows up (except it's obviously then on the right hand side). I've checked the template it's referencing (2columns-left.phtml), and the getChildHtml('left') is there in the correct position.   • Running jira at jira.[my domain].com

    I have jira installed on my server. It was running at http://[my ip address]:8100. I could manage to change it to http://jira.[my domain].com. Now after I access it at http://jira.[my domain].com, a browser path changes to http://jira.[my domain].com:8100/secure/Dashboard.jspa. Why does the port show up? Is there any way to remove 8100 port from this redirect. I'd like it to be http://jira.[my domain].com/secure/Dashboard.jspa Also my jira now responds both to jira.[my domain].com and [my ip address]:8100. The latter one is corrupted. Is it possible to stop user accessing it? Thank you!
