  • Any free Exchange hosts out there?

    - by Pure.Krome
    Hi folks, Are there any free Microsoft Exchange hosted solutions? I understand that Microsoft Exchange is a paid/licensed product, but I was curious if there might be a host that has a free hosting model (e.g. for <= 3 mailboxes per domain)? Larger mail boxes per domain == cost. ?? Finally, please refrain from suggesting other mail services (eg. sendmail, etc).

  • domain screensaver control software

    - by Pec
    I'm looking to buy a screensaver control product with granular control. I have about 2000 workstations which require dozens of different timeout values, lock/not locked on resume settings, different screen saver files (that can be frequently updated depending on department), etc. It's looking to be quite an undertaking accomplishing this with domain group policies so I'm hoping you guys have some suggestions of products to use. Hopefully such products would integrate with AD. Thanks

  • What would a new web development tool need to succeed?

    - by boost
    If one wanted to bring a new web development tool to market, what would it have to be able to do that would differentiate it enough from all the others to attract people's attention? In what areas are all the other frameworks and languages falling down, such that if a new product addressed those issues, it would stand a chance of being adopted by significant user community?

  • where to get an IBM jre for 64-bit Windows?

    - by Michael Mao
    I know this is stupid: I couldn't find anything from IBM website about where to download an IBM jre (specifically, IBM jre1.6.0 J9 2.4 SR6) for a 64-bit Windows OS. Google takes me to a link which looks similar, but that jre would only work on an IBM product, I assume their own server/workstation or something like that. So I've been stuck by this for quite some time... I couldn't believe there is no such a "previous version repository" or something similar on IBM website :( Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

  • Alternatives to phpSchedule?

    - by paulw1128
    Currently we have a lightly customised version of phpSchedule for booking our development/test machines (including a raft of VMs), which no-one uses. It's slow, time-consuming to use, out of date, and therefore pretty much useless. Getting a new system in place suddenly appeared on the management radar, as there's been complaints that people are being blocked by not being able to get any machines to do development testing on (running our product on a desktop machine is not an option). Does anyone have any recommendations for alternative booking systems that are worth investigating?

  • Model binding nested collections in ASP.NET MVC

    - by MartinHN
    Hi I'm using Steve Sanderson's BeginCollectionItem helper with ASP.NET MVC 2 to model bind a collection if items. That works fine, as long as the Model of the collection items does not contain another collection. I have a model like this: -Product --Variants ---IncludedAttributes Whenever I render and model bind the Variants collection, it works jusst fine. But with the IncludedAttributes collection, I cannot use the BeginCollectionItem helper because the id and names value won't honor the id and names value that was produced for it's parent Variant: <div class="variant"> <input type="hidden" value="bbd4fdd4-fa22-49f9-8a5e-3ff7e2942126" autocomplete="off" name="Variants.index"> <input type="hidden" value="0" name="Variants[bbd4fdd4-fa22-49f9-8a5e-3ff7e2942126].SlotAmount" id="Variants_bbd4fdd4-fa22-49f9-8a5e-3ff7e2942126__SlotAmount"> <table class="included-attributes"> <input type="hidden" value="0" name="Variants.IncludedAttributes[c5989db5-b1e1-485b-b09d-a9e50dd1d2cb].Id" id="Variants_IncludedAttributes_c5989db5-b1e1-485b-b09d-a9e50dd1d2cb__Id" class="attribute-id"> <tr> <td> <input type="hidden" value="0" name="Variants.IncludedAttributes[c5989db5-b1e1-485b-b09d-a9e50dd1d2cb].Id" id="Variants_IncludedAttributes_c5989db5-b1e1-485b-b09d-a9e50dd1d2cb__Id" class="attribute-id"> </td> </tr> </table> </div> If you look at the name of the first hidden field inside the table, it is Variants.IncludedAttributes - where it should have been Variants[bbd4fdd4-fa22-49f9-8a5e-3ff7e2942126].IncludedAttributes[...]... That is because when I call BeginCollectionItem the second time (On the IncludedAttributes collection) there's given no information about the item index value of it's parent Variant. My code for rendering a Variant looks like this: <div class="product-variant round-content-box grid_6" data-id="<%: Model.AttributeType.Id %>"> <h2><%: Model.AttributeType.AttributeTypeName %></h2> <div class="box-content"> <% using (Html.BeginCollectionItem("Variants")) { %> <div class="slot-amount"> <label class="inline" for="slotAmountSelectList"><%: Text.amountOfThisVariant %>:</label> <select id="slotAmountSelectList"><option value="1">1</option><option value="2">2</option></select> </div> <div class="add-values"> <label class="inline" for="txtProductAttributeSearch"><%: Text.addVariantItems %>:</label> <input type="text" id="txtProductAttributeSearch" class="product-attribute-search" /><span><%: Text.or %> <a class="select-from-list-link" href="#select-from-list" data-id="<%: Model.AttributeType.Id %>"><%: Text.selectFromList.ToLowerInvariant() %></a></span> <div class="clear"></div> </div> <%: Html.HiddenFor(m=>m.SlotAmount) %> <div class="included-attributes"> <table> <thead> <tr> <th><%: Text.name %></th> <th style="width: 80px;"><%: Text.price %></th> <th><%: Text.shipping %></th> <th style="width: 90px;"><%: Text.image %></th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <% for (int i = 0; i < Model.IncludedAttributes.Count; i++) { %> <tr><%: Html.EditorFor(m => m.IncludedAttributes[i]) %></tr> <% } %> </tbody> </table> </div> <% } %> </div> </div> And the code for rendering an IncludedAttribute: <% using (Html.BeginCollectionItem("Variants.IncludedAttributes")) { %> <td> <%: Model.AttributeName %> <%: Html.HiddenFor(m => m.Id, new { @class = "attribute-id" })%> <%: Html.HiddenFor(m => m.ProductAttributeTypeId) %> </td> <td><%: Model.Price.ToCurrencyString() %></td> <td><%: Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.RequiredShippingTypeId, AppData.GetShippingTypesSelectListItems(Model.RequiredShippingTypeId)) %></td> <td><%: Model.ImageId %></td> <% } %>

  • website creation - for non web programmers?

    - by Tim
    I thought I would find decent questions and answers for this, but none really caught my eye... I am a C++ developer and I own a few domains. I'd like to start off with simple web sites for each with a minimum of time and fuss and minimum learning. I have too many projects going and don't have the time to learn how to build websites. One is for a company that currently has only a single product with custom development as well. I hacked together some really bad html with paypal links on it. It is just one simple product. I want to add uservoice to it and maybe some other stuff like FAQ, forums, etc. Right now I just link to a google group I created. Another is a startup in development phase, but we want to provide simple content like whitepapers and press releases and a section for investors. - mostly an "about us" type of thing. We will also be providing details about our product. Then there is a blog site - currently using godaddy's quickblogcast. Not a bad start but I suspect I want to move to something else. The question is - is there a framework that I can use that will make decent, if not outstanding, sites? Again, I have my hands full with three projects in addition to my day job and don't have time to learn web programming. I also don;t want to just pay a web person and then be out in the cold for upgrades, changes, etc. I have been burned before. I am happy with a web-based app or a desktop app that builds html or whatever and then I can ftp it up to the hosting servers. To summarize: - simple to get started - low time to get a web page going - ability to integrate with a few hand-done pages - pay pal integration - uservoice integration - ability to put under my svn would be nice too EDIT Thanks to the responders. I understand now why my original searches failed. I was not searching for "CMS". I'll go back and do that. I would expect that this is a many-times-duplicate... EDIT: I am considering using Wordpress and Drupal - one for each of the sites. I did one Drupal site quickly just so I could qualify for one of the Microsoft programs for discounted dev tools - anyway - it was a quick and dirty homepage and I am still on the learning curve. I look forward to playing with it. So far it has been ok. I am not sure about doing a taste-test between the two - might be a waste of time where I could just become that much better at Drupal faster than spending time on wordpress... Will keep updated. EDIT: Selecting the Drupal answer by slim for now. That is what I am going with. Don't have time to check them all out. Wordpress sounds like a good option too, but such limited time... Results: I have tried wordpress and drupal so far. Wordpress is great for blogging or for a site that you want to run ads from, but I disagree that it is ready for a corporate site, unless you want to spend lots of time making your own theme, etc. But if you spend that time, why not work with drupal? Drupal was a little intimidating at first - but after spending about 4 hours reading the overview and step-by-step guide online was a HUGE step. I got a simple site up and running easily after that. Trying to make a website just by going to the admin panel without reading anything is a waste of time. You really need to read the docs. The site is great. start here: http://drupal.org/getting-started I'd suggest drupal to anyone. It has amazing capabilities, lots of support and lots of users. Just doing blogging? Wordpress is really great for that. So now I've got two sites running with a lot of the functionality I wanted - and they look good. ONE MORE EDIT Well, I have switched back to wordpress after buying a theme and then getting help from web developers. I guess either one will work - it is just a matter of getting comfortable witht he basics, using the right tools and trying things out.

  • Unable to output XML data in a manageable way

    - by Rob
    I've been given data from a previous version of a website (it was a custom CMS) and am looking to get it into a state that I can import it into my Wordpress site. This is what I'm working on - http://www.teamworksdesign.com/clients/ciw/datatest/index.php. If you scroll down to row 187 the data starts to fail (there should be a red message) with the following error message: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'String could not be parsed as XML' in /home/teamwork/public_html/clients/ciw/datatest/index.php:132 Stack trace: #0 /home/teamwork/public_html/clients/ciw/datatest/index.php(132): SimpleXMLElement-__construct(' Can anyone see what the problem is and how to fix it? • Improving HTML scrapper efficiency with pcntl_fork()

    - by Michael Pasqualone
    With the help from two previous questions, I now have a working HTML scrapper that feeds product information into a database. What I am now trying to do is improve efficiently by wrapping my brain around with getting my scrapper working with pcntl_fork. If I split my php5-cli script into 10 separate chunks, I improve total runtime by a large factor so I know I am not i/o or cpu bound but just limited by the linear nature of my scraping functions. Using code I've cobbled together from multiple sources, I have this working test: <?php libxml_use_internal_errors(true); ini_set('max_execution_time', 0); ini_set('max_input_time', 0); set_time_limit(0); $hrefArray = array("http://slashdot.org", "http://slashdot.org", "http://slashdot.org", "http://slashdot.org"); function doDomStuff($singleHref,$childPid) { $html = new DOMDocument(); $html->loadHtmlFile($singleHref); $xPath = new DOMXPath($html); $domQuery = '//div[@id="slogan"]/h2'; $domReturn = $xPath->query($domQuery); foreach($domReturn as $return) { $slogan = $return->nodeValue; echo "Child PID #" . $childPid . " says: " . $slogan . "\n"; } } $pids = array(); foreach ($hrefArray as $singleHref) { $pid = pcntl_fork(); if ($pid == -1) { die("Couldn't fork, error!"); } elseif ($pid > 0) { // We are the parent $pids[] = $pid; } else { // We are the child $childPid = posix_getpid(); doDomStuff($singleHref,$childPid); exit(0); } } foreach ($pids as $pid) { pcntl_waitpid($pid, $status); } // Clear the libxml buffer so it doesn't fill up libxml_clear_errors(); Which raises the following questions: 1) Given my hrefArray contains 4 urls - if the array was to contain say 1,000 product urls this code would spawn 1,000 child processes? If so, what is the best way to limit the amount of processes to say 10, and again 1,000 urls as an example split the child work load to 100 products per child (10 x 100). 2) I've learn that pcntl_fork creates a copy of the process and all variables, classes, etc. What I would like to do is replace my hrefArray variable with a DOMDocument query that builds the list of products to scrape, and then feeds them off to child processes to do the processing - so spreading the load across 10 child workers. My brain is telling I need to do something like the following (obviously this doesn't work, so don't run it): <?php libxml_use_internal_errors(true); ini_set('max_execution_time', 0); ini_set('max_input_time', 0); set_time_limit(0); $maxChildWorkers = 10; $html = new DOMDocument(); $html->loadHtmlFile('http://xxxx'); $xPath = new DOMXPath($html); $domQuery = '//div[@id=productDetail]/a'; $domReturn = $xPath->query($domQuery); $hrefsArray[] = $domReturn->getAttribute('href'); function doDomStuff($singleHref) { // Do stuff here with each product } // To figure out: Split href array into $maxChilderWorks # of workArray1, workArray2 ... workArray10. $pids = array(); foreach ($workArray(1,2,3 ... 10) as $singleHref) { $pid = pcntl_fork(); if ($pid == -1) { die("Couldn't fork, error!"); } elseif ($pid > 0) { // We are the parent $pids[] = $pid; } else { // We are the child $childPid = posix_getpid(); doDomStuff($singleHref); exit(0); } } foreach ($pids as $pid) { pcntl_waitpid($pid, $status); } // Clear the libxml buffer so it doesn't fill up libxml_clear_errors(); But what I can't figure out is how to build my hrefsArray[] in the master/parent process only and feed it off to the child process. Currently everything I've tried causes loops in the child processes. I.e. my hrefsArray gets built in the master, and in each subsequent child process. I am sure I am going about this all totally wrong, so would greatly appreciate just general nudge in the right direction.

  • rowupdating not giving new values.

    - by pankaj
    Hi, I am working on a application where i am using rowupdating event of the gridview. I am using templatefield in my columns so i am not able to get the new values from the textboxws that i am having in the gridview. How can i get the new values from the textboxes. Following is my code in rowupdating: protected void gviewTemplate_RowUpdating(object sender, GridViewUpdateEventArgs e) { gviewTemplate.EditIndex = -1; string rowNum = ViewState["ID"].ToString(); Label lbl2 = (Label)gviewTemplate.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("lblTemplateName"); Label lbl1 = (Label)gviewTemplate.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("lblUploaded"); TextBox txtTempName = (TextBox)gviewTemplate.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtTemplateName"); TextBox txtHeading = (TextBox)gviewTemplate.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtHeading"); TextBox txtCoupon = (TextBox)gviewTemplate.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtCouponText"); TextBox txtBrand = (TextBox)gviewTemplate.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtBrandName"); TextBox txtSearchText = (TextBox)gviewTemplate.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtSearch"); TextBox txtDiscount = (TextBox)gviewTemplate.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtDiscount"); TextBox txtStartDt = (TextBox)gviewTemplate.Rows[e.RowIndex].FindControl("txtStartDt"); } i want to get the new values form these textboxes but it is always giving me old values. and yes, e.Newvalues is not giving me anything. It is always empty. This is small extract from my gridview design: <asp:GridView runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" ID="gviewTemplate" onrowdatabound="gviewTemplate_RowDataBound" DataKeyNames="F1" onrowcommand="gviewTemplate_RowCommand" onrowediting="gviewTemplate_RowEditing" onrowcancelingedit="gviewTemplate_RowCancelingEdit" onrowupdating="gviewTemplate_RowUpdating" onrowdeleting="gviewTemplate_RowDeleting" onrowupdated="gviewTemplate_RowUpdated"> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Uploaded Image"> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:LinkButton Text="Reload" runat="server" OnClick="lbtnReloadImage_Click" CommandName="reload" ID="lbtnReloadImage"></asp:LinkButton> </EditItemTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <table id="Table2" runat="server" width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0"> <tr> <td> <asp:Label Runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Uploaded") %>' ID="lblUploaded"></asp:Label> </td> </tr> </table> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Template Name"> <ItemStyle VerticalAlign="Top" HorizontalAlign="Center" /> <EditItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="txtTemplateName" Width="60" Runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("F1") %>'></asp:TextBox> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="RequiredFieldValidator1" Runat="server" ErrorMessage="You must provide a Product Name."   • Developed android application cannot connect to phpmyadmin

    - by user1850936

  • What is Causing This Memory Leak in Delphi?

    - by lkessler
    I just can't figure out this memory leak that EurekaLog is reporting for my program. I'm using Delphi 2009. Here it is: Memory Leak: Type=Data; Total size=26; Count=1; The stack is: System.pas _UStrSetLength 17477 System.pas _UStrCat 17572 Process.pas InputGedcomFile 1145 That is all there is in the stack. EurekaLog is pointing me to the location where the memory that was not released was first allocated. According to it, the line in my program is line 1145 of InputGedcomFile. That line is: CurStruct0Key := 'HEAD' + Level0Key; where CurStruct0Key and Level0Key are simply defined in the procedure as local variables that should be dynamically handled by the Delphi memory manager when entering and leaving the procedure: var CurStruct0Key, Level0Key: string; So now I look at the _UStrCat procedure in the System Unit. Line 17572 is: CALL _UStrSetLength // Set length of Dest and I go to the _UStrSetLength procedure in the System Unit, and the relevant lines are: @@isUnicode: CMP [EAX-skew].StrRec.refCnt,1 // !!! MT safety JNE @@copyString // not unique, so copy SUB EAX,rOff // Offset EAX "S" to start of memory block ADD EDX,EDX // Double length to get size JO @@overflow ADD EDX,rOff+2 // Add string rec size JO @@overflow PUSH EAX // Put S on stack MOV EAX,ESP // to pass by reference CALL _ReallocMem POP EAX ADD EAX,rOff // Readjust MOV [EBX],EAX // Store MOV [EAX-skew].StrRec.length,ESI MOV WORD PTR [EAX+ESI*2],0 // Null terminate TEST EDI,EDI // Was a temp created? JZ @@exit PUSH EDI MOV EAX,ESP CALL _LStrClr POP EDI JMP @@exit where line 17477 is the "CALL _ReallocMem" line. So then what is the memory leak? Surely a simple concatenate of a string constant to a local string variable should not be causing a memory leak. Why is EurekaLog pointing me to the ReallocMem line in a _UStrSetLength routine that is part of Delphi? This is Delphi 2009 and I am using the new unicode strings. Any help or explanation here will be much appreciated.

  • how to show a large jpg image to the right in jqGrid's edit form ?

    Is it possible to show a large (i.e. bigger than a thumbnail) jpeg image in the right-hand side of jqGrid's edit form ? I'm sure all things are possible with jQuery, but I don't know where to begin. thanks ... html: function afterSubmit(r, data, action) { // if session timeout returned: if (r.responseText == "logout") { window.location = '../scripts/logout.php'; } // if an error message is returned: if (r.responseText != "") { $('#submit_errors').html('Alert:'+r.responseText+''); // show div with error message $('#submit_errors').slideDown(); // hide error div after 10 seconds window.setTimeout(function() { $('#submit_errors').slideUp(); }, 10000); return false; // don't remove this! } return true; // don't remove this! } var lastsel; jQuery(document).ready(function(){ var mygrid = jQuery("#mobile_incidents").jqGrid({ url:'list.php?q=e', editurl:'edit.php', datatype: "json", // note: all column names are required even though some columns are hidden colNames:['Rec#','Date','Line','Photo'], colModel:[{ name:'id', index:'id', editable:true, editoptions: {readonly:'readonly'} }, { name:'mobile_discoveryDate', index:'mobile_discoveryDate', sortable:false, editable:true, edittype:'text', formatter:'date', formatoptions:{ srcformat:'Y/m/d', newformat:'m/d/Y' }, editoptions:{ size:12, maxlength:10, dataInit: function(element) { $(element).blur(); $(element).datepicker({dateFormat:'mm/dd/yyyy'}) } } }, { name:'mobile_lineName', index:'mobile_lineName', editable:true, sortable:false}, { name:'mobile_photo_name', index:'mobile_photo_name', editable:false, sortable:false} ], pager: '#mobile_incidents_pager', altRows: false, rowNum:10, rowList:[10,20], imgpath: '../include/images/jqgrid', viewrecords: true, emptyrecords:'No submissions found!', height: 260, sortname: 'id', sortorder: 'desc', gridview: true, scrollrows: true, autowidth: true, rownumbers: false, multiselect: false, subGrid:false, caption: '' }) .navGrid('#mobile_incidents_pager', // params: {add:false, edit:true, del:false, search:false, view:false, refresh:true, alertcap:' to edit:', alerttext:' . . . click on a row to highlight' }, // edit params: {top:50, left:5, editCaption: 'Edit Submission', bSubmit: 'Approve/Save', closeAfterEdit:true, afterSubmit:function(r,data){return afterSubmit(r,data,'edit');} }, {}, // add params {}, // delete params // search params: {multipleSearch: false}, // view params: {top: 150, left: 5, caption: 'View Mobile Rail Submission'} ); });

  • XMLHttpRequest and IE 8 error - in jsp/servlet applicaton

    Hello, I am using HMLHttpRequest object to retrieve information from the database via servlet and populate combo box. The code run in Firefox 3.6 and Chrome without any problems. • Rails, RSpec and Webrat: Expected output matches rendered output but still getting error in view spe

    - by Anthony Burns
    Hello all, I've just gotten started using BDD with RSpec/Cucumber/Webrat and Rails and I've run into some frustration trying to get my view spec to pass. First of all, I am running Ruby 1.9.1p129 with Rails 2.3.2, RSpec and RSpec-Rails 1.2.6, Cucumber 0.3.11, and Webrat 0.4.4. Here is the code relevant to my question config/routes.rb: map.b_posts 'backend/posts', :controller => 'backend/posts', :action => 'backend_index', :conditions => { :method => :get } map.connect 'backend/posts', :controller => 'backend/posts', :action => 'create', :conditions => { :method => :post } views/backend/posts/create.html.erb: <% form_tag do %> <% end %> *spec/views/backend/posts/create.html.erb_spec.rb:* describe "backend/posts/create.html.erb" do it "should render a form to create a post" do render "backend/posts/create.html.erb" response.should have_selector("form", :method => 'post', :action => b_posts_path) do |form| # Nothing here yet. end end end Here is the relevant part of the output when I run script/spec: 'backend/posts/create.html.erb should render a form to create a post' FAILED expected following output to contain a <form method='post' action='/backend/posts'/> tag: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd"> <html><body><form action="/backend/posts" method="post"> </form></body></html> It would appear to me that what have_selector is looking for is exactly what the template generates, yet the example still fails. I am very much looking forward to seeing my error (because I have a feeling it is my error). Any help is much appreciated!

  • Frameset isn't working in IE

    - by Cameroon
    First of all, why use a frame set in the first place you ask? answer: Because my boss told me. That been said, I have 2 files. Index.html and Head.html. Contents of index.html: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/frameset.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" /> <title>Site Title</title> </head> <frameset rows="122,*" FRAMEBORDER=NO FRAMESPACING=2 BORDER=0> <frame name="t" src="head.html" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0"> <frame name="b" src="http://www.website.com"> </frameset> <noframes> <p>You have frames turned off on your browser, please turn it on and reload this page.</p> </noframes> </html> Contents of head.html: <div style="border-bottom:2px solid #000;height:120px"> <center>This is the frame head.</center> </div> The code works fine in all browsers except Internet Explorer 7 and 8 (I don't care about 6). Is there anything I am doing wrong, and if not then can the same effect be achieved without frames and if so how?

  • F#: Tell me what I'm missing about using Async.Parallel

    - by JBristow
    ok, so I'm doing ProjectEuler Problem #14, and I'm fiddling around with optimizations in order to feel f# out. in the following code: let evenrule n = n / 2L let oddrule n = 3L * n + 1L let applyRule n = if n % 2L = 0L then evenrule n else oddrule n let runRules n = let rec loop a final = if a = 1L then final else loop (applyRule a) (final + 1L) n, loop (int64 n) 1L let testlist = seq {for i in 3 .. 2 .. 1000000 do yield i } let getAns sq = sq |> Seq.head let seqfil (a,acc) (b,curr) = if acc = curr then (a,acc) else if acc < curr then (b,curr) else (a,acc) let pmap f l = seq { for a in l do yield async {return f a} } |> Seq.map Async.RunSynchronously let pmap2 f l = seq { for a in l do yield async {return f a} } |> Async.Parallel |> Async.RunSynchronously let procseq f l = l |> f runRules |> Seq.reduce seqfil |> fst let timer = System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch() timer.Start() let ans1 = testlist |> procseq Seq.map // 837799 00:00:08.6251990 printfn "%A\t%A" ans1 timer.Elapsed timer.Reset() timer.Start() let ans2 = testlist |> procseq pmap printfn "%A\t%A" ans2 timer.Elapsed // 837799 00:00:12.3010250 timer.Reset() timer.Start() let ans3 = testlist |> procseq pmap2 printfn "%A\t%A" ans3 timer.Elapsed // 837799 00:00:58.2413990 timer.Reset() Why does the Async.Parallel code run REALLY slow in comparison to the straight up map? I know I shouldn't see that much of an effect, since I'm only on a dual core mac. Please note that I do NOT want help solving problem #14, I just want to know what's up with my parallel code.

  • PayPal integration woes: PDT hangs on return to site

    - by Tom
    Hi, I'm implementing PayPal IPN & PDT. After some headache & time at the sandbox, IPN is working well and PDT returns the correct $_GET data. The implementation is as follows: Pass user ID in form to PayPal User buys product and triggers IPN which updates database for given user ID PDT returns transaction ID when user returns to site The return page says "please wait" and repeat-Ajax-checks for the transaction status User is redirected to success/failure page Everything works well, EXCEPT that when using the PayPal ready PHP code for PDT to do a return POST, the page hangs. PayPal waits for a response and the user never gets back to my site. I'm not getting a fail status, just nothing. The funny thing is that once the unknown error occurs, my test domain becomes unresponsive for a short period. The code (PHP): https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/xcl/rec/pdt-code-outside If I comment out the POST back, it all works fine. I'm able to pin down the problem to once the code enters the while{} loop. Unfortunately, I'm not experienced enough to write a replacement from scratch for the PayPal code, so would really appreciate any ideas on what might be wrong. The POST back goes to ssl://www.sandbox.paypal.com, and I'm using button code and an authorisation token that have all been created via a sandbox test account. Thanks in advance.

  • Can parser combinators be made efficient?

    - by Jon Harrop
    Around 6 years ago, I benchmarked my own parser combinators in OCaml and found that they were ~5× slower than the parser generators on offer at the time. I recently revisited this subject and benchmarked Haskell's Parsec vs a simple hand-rolled precedence climbing parser written in F# and was surprised to find the F# to be 25× faster than the Haskell. Here's the Haskell code I used to read a large mathematical expression from file, parse and evaluate it: import Control.Applicative import Text.Parsec hiding ((<|>)) expr = chainl1 term ((+) <$ char '+' <|> (-) <$ char '-') term = chainl1 fact ((*) <$ char '*' <|> div <$ char '/') fact = read <$> many1 digit <|> char '(' *> expr <* char ')' eval :: String -> Int eval = either (error . show) id . parse expr "" . filter (/= ' ') main :: IO () main = do file <- readFile "expr" putStr $ show $ eval file putStr "\n" and here's my self-contained precedence climbing parser in F#: let rec (|Expr|) (P(f, xs)) = Expr(loop (' ', f, xs)) and loop = function | ' ' as oop, f, ('+' | '-' as op)::P(g, xs) | (' ' | '+' | '-' as oop), f, ('*' | '/' as op)::P(g, xs) -> let h, xs = loop (op, g, xs) let op = match op with | '+' -> (+) | '-' -> (-) | '*' -> (*) | '/' -> (/) loop (oop, op f h, xs) | _, f, xs -> f, xs and (|P|) = function | '('::Expr(f, ')'::xs) -> P(f, xs) | c::xs when '0' <= c && c <= '9' -> P(int(string c), xs) My impression is that even state-of-the-art parser combinators waste a lot of time back tracking. Is that correct? If so, is it possible to write parser combinators that generate state machines to obtain competitive performance or is it necessary to use code generation?
