• "image contains error", trying to create and display images using google app engine

  Hello all the general idea is to create a galaxy-like map. I run into problems when I try to display a generated image. • Dojo dialog, the iPad and the virtual keyboard issue

  Recently, I have been working on a project where the interface should work for desktop and tablets (in particular the iPad). One issue I am coming across is with a Dojo dialog on the iPad when text entry is taking place. Basically here is what happens: Load Dojo interface with buttons on iPad - OK Press button (touch) to show dialog (90% height and width) - OK Click on text box (touch) like DateTextBox or TimeTextBox - OK, the virtual keyboard is opened Click the date or time I want in the UI (touch) - OK, but I can't see all of the options since it is longer than the screen size... Try to scroll down (swipe up with two fingers or click 'next' in the keyboard) - not OK and the dialog repositions itself to have it's top at the top of the viewport area. Basically, the issue is that the dialog keeps trying to reposition itself. Am I able to stop dialog resizing and positioning if I catch the window onResize events? Does anyone else have this issue with the iPad and Dojo dialogs? • Need events to execute on timer events, metronome precision.

  I setup a timer to call an event in my application. The problme is the event execution is being skewed by other windows operations. Ex. openning and window, loading a webpage. I need the event to excute exactly on time, every time. When i first set up the app, used a sound file, like a metronome to listen to the even firing, in a steady state, its firing right on, but as soon do something in the windows environment, the sound fires slower, then sort of sppeds up a bit to catch up. So i added a logging method to the event to ctahc the timer ticks. From that data, it appears that the timer is not being affected by the windows app, but my application event calls are being affected. I figured this out by checking the datetime.now in the event, and if i set it to 250 milliseconds, which is 4 clicks per second. You get data something like below. (sec):(ms) 1:000 1:250 1:500 1:750 2:000 2:250 2:500 2:750 3:000 3:250 3:500 3:750 (lets say i execute some windows event)(time will skew) 4:122 4:388 4:600 4:876 (stop doing what i was doing in windows) (going to shorten the data for simplicit, my list was 30sec long) 5:124 5:268 5:500 5:750 (you would se the time go back the same milliseconds it was at the begining) 6:000 6:250 6:500 6:750 7:000 7:250 7:500 7:750 So i'm thinking the timer continues to fire on the same millisecond every time, but its the event that is being skewed to fire off time by other windows operations. Its not a huge skew, but for what i need to accomplish, its unacceptable. Is there anyhting i can do in .NET, hoping to use XAML/WPF application, thats will correct the skewing of events? thx.

• How to reliably replace a library-defined error handler with my own?

  On certain error cases ATL invokes AtlThrow() which is implemented as ATL::AtlThrowImpl() which in turn throws CAtlException. The latter is not very good - CAtlException is not even derived from std::exception and also we use our own exceptions hierarchy and now we will have to catch CAtlException separately here and there which is lots of extra code and error-prone. Looks like it is possible to replace ATL::AtlThrowImpl() with my own handler - define _ATL_CUSTOM_THROW and define AtlThrow() to be the custom handler before including atlbase.h - and ATL will call the custom handler. Not so easy. Some of ATL code is not in sources - it comes compiled as a library - either static or dynamic. We use the static - atls.lib. And... it is compiled in such way that it has ATL::ThrowImpl() inside and some code calling it. I used a static analysis tool - it clearly shows that there're paths on which the old default handler is called. To ensure I even tried to "reimplement" ATL::AtlThrowImpl() in my code. Now the linker says it sees two declarations of ATL::AtlThrowImpl() which I suppose confirms that there's another implementation that can be called by some code. How can I handle this? How do I replace the default handler completely and ensure that the default handler is never called?

• iPhone: Cell imageViews repeating when loaded from url

  I'm developing a demo RSS reader for iPhone. I obviously have a tableview to display the feeds, and then a detailed view. Some of this feeds have a thumbnail that I want to display on cell.imageview of the table, and some don't. The problem is that when scrolling the table, loaded thumbnails start repeating on other cells, and I end up with a thumbnail on every cell. Here's a piece of my code. • Selenium tests not building due to NUnit error (Mono+OS X)

  I'm running Selenium RC on my Mac and driving my tests using NUnit in C#. My problem is that when I try and build a simple test in Mono I get the following error. • call lynx from jsp script

  Hi, I have an execute(String cmd) in a jsp script that calls the exec method from the Runtime class. It works when I call a local command, like a php script stored on the server. for example: /usr/bin/php /path/to/php/script arg1 arg2 So I guess my execute command is ok, since it is working with that. Now when I try to call lynx, the text-based web browser, it does not work. If I call it in a terminal, it works fine: /usr/bin/lynx -dump -accept_all_cookies 'http://www.someurl.net/?arg1=1&arg2=2' But when I call this from my execute command, nothing happens... Any idea why? • Close application on error

  I’m currently writing an application for the Android platform that requires a mounted SD card (or ExternalStorage). I know that it might not be the best way to require something like that, but the application will work with quite a lot of data, and I don’t even want to think about storing that on the device’s storage. Anyway, to ensure that the application won’t run without the external storage, I do a quick check in the activity’s onCreate method. If the card is not mounted, I want to display an error message and then quit the application. I read some topics before on closing an application, and I know that it maybe shouldn’t happen like that. But how should I instead prevent the application from continuing to run? How do you close the application correctly when an error occurs?

• Modifying my website to allow anonymous comments

  I write the code for my own website as an educational/fun exercise. Right now part of the website is a blog (like every other site out there :-/) which supports the usual basic blog features, including commenting on posts. But I only have comments enabled for logged-in users; I want to alter the code to allow anonymous comments - that is, I want to allow people to post comments without first creating a user account on my site, although there will still be some sort of authentication involved to prevent spam. Question: what information should I save for anonymous comments? I'm thinking at least display name and email address (for displaying a Gravatar), and probably website URL because I eventually want to accept OpenID as well, but would anything else make sense? Other question: how should I modify the database to store this information? The schema I have for the comment table is currently comment_id smallint(5) // The unique comment ID post_id smallint(5) // The ID of the post the comment was made on user_id smallint(5) // The ID of the user account who made the comment comment_subject varchar(128) comment_date timestamp comment_text text Should I add additional fields for name, email address, etc. to the comment table? (seems like a bad idea) Create a new "anonymous users" table? (and if so, how to keep anonymous user ids from conflicting with regular user ids) Or create fake user accounts for anonymous users in my existing users table? Part of what's making this tricky is that if someone tries to post an anonymous comment using an email address (or OpenID) that's already associated with an account on my site, I'd like to catch that and prompt them to log in.

I've generated few files with 150kB size each to test the crawler. So I think the 20+ responses are limited by the bandwidth? • Handling Errors in PHP

  I have a custom class that, when called, will redirect to a page and send a 'message_type' and 'message' variable via GET. When the page opens it checks for these variables and displays a 'success', 'warning', or 'error' message depending on the 'message_type' variable. I made it so the user thinks they stay on the same page. It also allows for other variables to be passed along with the message. Is this good practice, or should I just start using exceptions?   Hi, I'm trying to create a subclass of JButton or AbstractButton that would call specified .actionPerformed as long as the mouse is held down on the button. So far I was thinking of extending JButton, adding a mouse listener on creation (inside constructor) and calling actionPerformed while the mouse is down.   Hi, I'm trying to write an application that has two DataGrids - the first one displays customers and the second one selected customer's records. I have generated the ADO.NET Entity Model and the connection property are set in App.config file. Now I want to populate the datagrids with the data from sql ce 3.5 database which does not support LINQ-TO-SQL.   I'm working a on a link checker/broken link finder and I am getting many false positives, after double checking I noticed that many error codes were returning webexceptions but they were actually downloadable, but in some other cases the statuscode is 404 and i can access the page from the browse. • Mobile safari - suppress Unsupported Protocol alert

  Hello guys, I'm creating a website for iPhone and i use the native app (cliqcliq Quickpick) to upload photos. I use the script like the following to check if the application is installed. The basic idea is to send user to a custom url, if application is there it is launched, if it is not there the url should be ignored and user is taken to App Store. Below is the script: window.launchQuickpic = function() { var start = new Date(); setTimeout(function() { if (new Date() - start > 2000) { return; } window.location = 'http://www.cliqcliq.com/quickpic/install/'; }, 1000); var getParams = [...]; window.location = 'vquickpic://?' + getParams.join('&'); }; If the native app is not installed I'm getting the alert box saying that Safari does not recognize the custom url. After user clicks "ok" it works as it is supposed to. But the alert is reeealy annoying. I've tried to surround the window.location= code with try/catch. Didn't help.
