• creating a wordpress dev enviornment and uploading to production

  I am an old school java developer who is considering a using wordpress. I'm used to developing locally on my PC (yeah yeah not even a mac) and then ftping my files up to a production environment on a remote server. My high level review of wordpress gives me the impression that typically there is no concept of lower environments and that all updates occur directly in production. Is this the case? If not, can someone explain how one goes about uploading the files to a web site? Thanks, Jeff

• Simple ASP.NET MVC Routing question

  Hi there, I have two pages in my simple MVC App with two defined routes: routes.MapRoute( "Results", // Route name "Results/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Results", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Main", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } // Parameter defaults ); I needed to have the results page load with just a product ID such as this: [MyDomain....]/Results/12345. But also the main page does a POST (using JQuery) to the Results Controller for updates using this route: [MyDomain....]/Main/Update along with a data bag. This works fine when I only have the "Default" route. But when I added the other "Results" route, all the POST calls to update are failing. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong??? Thanks a lot.

  Hi guys, So I'm slowly tackling OO and Zend Framework and their MVC process in particular. I have an existing website and web-based calendar application that was designed by me, but coded by a different person and done procedurally. I understand that it will be very difficult for my application to ever be completely OO without a full re-write, and I'm fine with that. I have a lot of updates and modifications I want to do in the future, so I'm wanting to start replacing some of the basic components (login, authentication. etc) now, and continue to learn as I go. Again, I'm really a newbie at programming and OO. What I'm wondering is if I'm wanting to incorporate the Framework, then would I just first drop my whole site into the /public folder of the Framework and then start pulling functionality out from there?

• Flickering when repainting a JPanel inside a JScrollPAne

  I'm having a problem with repainting a JPanel inside a JScrollPane. Basically, I'm just trying to 'wrap' my existing EditPanel (it originally extended JPanel) into a JScrollPane. It seems that the JPanel updates too often (mass flickering). How would I stop this from happening? I tried using the setIgnoreRepaint() but it didn't seem to do anything. Will this current implementation work or would I need to create another inner class to fine-tune the JPanel I'm using to display graphics? • Facebook Graph API shows different results in me/home

  Hi, When I do a GET with my browser (already logged-in at Facebook): https://graph.facebook.com/me/home?access_token={token} the results are different than doing the same via a FB app using Facebook C# SDK. Specifically, what the API is not returning are feeds posted by other applications. Why can be this happening? Can't an application retrieve updates from other applications even if it has the read_stream permission? I even requested for additional permissions: read_stream,user_activities,friends_activities,friends_likes,user_likes,read_requests but nothing has changed. What I need is to get ALL and the same stories an user would see at his FB news feed.

  This has got to be a FAQ, so can someone please just direct me to a "network programming for dummies" URL? The server wants to push information to a client or broadcast to all, when an event happens - as opposed to the clients constantly polling the server "just in case". The client then updates a browser page display. How do I do that? (toldya it was a n00b question) Should I have a thread which receives info on a socket and then writes it to a database which the browser display (PHP) can process with an HTML refresh tag, or what? Sorry to sound so dumb.

  I have an account at a server at school, and a home computer that I need to work with sometimes. I have exchanged keys, and now only have one problem. While my school account has a name associated with it, "account_name@school", my home network does not. My plan is to have a script that every hour retrieves my home network's IP address, ssh'es into my school account and updates my ssh config file storing my home network's IP address. How can I retrieve my home computer's IP address from a shell script? P.S. Is this a sensible plan?

• Organize array in PHP from mysql

  Hi i have a social networking website. what i want it to do is pull out my friends status updates. basically what it does is i have a mysql query that pulls out all of my friends and in that while loop there is another mysql query that pulls out the status's from my friends. i want it to be in order of date but since its one while loop in another what it does is pull out all status's from friend 1 then 2 then 3 and not in order by date. i even tried ORDER BY DATE but that just ordered it by date within the friend.. my thought is that i could putt it all in an array and friends is one thing and the values is the stats. then just sort by values would this work and how could i do it. • Python - react to custom keyboard interrupt

  Hello. I am writing python chatbot that displays output through console. Every half second it asks server for updates, and responds to message. In the console I can see chat log. This is sufficient in most cases, however, sometimes I want to interrupt normal workflow and write custom chat answer myself. I would love to be able to press a button (or combination) that would switch to "custom reply mode". What is the best way to do that, or achieve similar result? Thanks a lot!

The "foo" attribute never updates. It seems that the validation code is set only when the dev server starts and then doesn't change.

  Is it possible to use a stored procedure that returns multiple result sets in json format and process them as part of one request using ajax calls in jquery? In other words, I have a stored procedure that returns several result sets that are to be used with a series of select boxes that are all being filtered by the same criteria. If any of the select boxes is chosen that value is then passed to the stored procedure and all the subsequent select box updates reflect only results that match the filtered criteria. I don't want to have to call the same sp multiple times to process the results and was trying not to create multiple queries, so I'm wondering if it's possible to store more than one json result in a single request and then store and process them on the client side.

• Catching KeyboardInterrupt when working with PyGame

  I have written a small Python application where I use PyGame for displaying some simple graphics. I have a somewhat simple PyGame loop going in the base of my application, like so: stopEvent = Event() # Just imagine that this eventually sets the stopEvent # as soon as the program is finished with its task. disp = SortDisplay(algorithm, stopEvent) def update(): """ Update loop; updates the screen every few seconds. The trouble I'm having is, if I Ctrl-C in the Python console, the application throws a KeyboardInterrupt, but keeps on running. The question would therefore be: What have I done wrong in my update loop, and how do I rectify it so a KeyboardInterrupt causes the application to terminate?

  When declaring an Array in PHP, the index's may be created out of order...I.e Array[1] = 1 Array[19] = 2 Array[4] = 3 My question. In creating an array like this, is the length 19 with nulls in between? If I attempted to get Array[3] would it come as undefined or throw an error? Also, how does this affect memory. Would the memory of 3 index's be taken up or 19?   I have written two small scripts, First one maintains a dictionary of current stock prices for a set of securities. I am using recursion to listen to a named pipe. Whenever there is something available on the name pipe, it updates the security price and goes right back and start listening to the pipe. The second one periodically reads the stock price of some security from the price cache of the first program and performs come calculation. But I have no idea how to make these two programs communicate. I somehow need to make my second programs start the first program and let it run in the background and get the price whenever it needs it. Can someone point me in the right direction? • Is it possible to make a PHP script run itself every hour or so without the use of a cronjob?

  I'm pretty sure I've seen this done in a php script once, although I cant find the script. It was some script that would automatically check for updates to that script, and then replace itself if there was an update. I don't actually need all that, I just want to be able to make my PHP script automatically run every 30 minutes to an hour, but I'd like to do it without cronjobs, if its possible. Any suggestions? Or is it even possible? EDIT: After reading through a possible duplicate that RC linked to, I'd like to clarify. I'd like to do this completely without using resources outside of the PHP script. AKA no outside cronjobs that send a GET request. I'd also like to do it without keeping the script running constantly and sleeping for 30 minutes

• MS Access - Keeping track (transacation) of all activity while form is open...

  Hi and thanks for reading. I am not a database/vba guy and my experience is strictly in the JAVA world. However, I need to have an ACCESS form open. While it is open and new data is entered into it (via the underlying query OR any other data changes in other tables based on sql updates attached to buttons on this form), is there a way that I can initiate a transaction so that at the bottom of the form I could have a button that says "Exit and committ changes" or "Cancel and Rollback changes". I guess I thought of a situation where I could do something like: On Form OPEN, START TRANSACTION On "CLICK OK", COMMIT TRANSACTION or ON "CLICK CANCEL" ROLLBACK. I'm aware how to do the Workspace.BeginTransaction but I'm not sure if that will apply if I do it on FORM OPEN and then on FORM CLOSE do the COMMIT/ROLLBACK locgin? Any insight would be great.

  I am working with a large PostgreSQL database, and I are trying to tune it to get more performance. Our queries and updates seem to be doing a lot of lookups using foreign keys. What I would like is a relatively simple way to add Indexes to all of our foreign keys without having to go through every table (~140) and doing it manually. In researching this, I've come to find that there is no way to have Postgres do this for you automatically (like MySQL does), but I would be happy to hear otherwise there, too.

  Hi, BACKGROUND: I have a WindowForms v3.5 application with a StatusStrip set to be used as a TooStripStatusLabel. I'm issues quite a lot of updates to it during a task that is running, however there are noticable periods where it is BLANK. There are no points when I am writing a blank to the status strip label either. QUESTION: Any ideas why I would be seeing period where the status strip label is blank, when I don't expect it to be?   Hi everyone, Does anyone out there use SQL Express 2008 R2 in a production environment? I am looking at hosting a Windows VPS as a server for a client software product I have developed. Clients connect to the server, send their data to a service running on the server, and the service updates the database. I'm trying to keep running costs down, and whilst I have a license for SQL Developer I obviously can't use this in a production environment. • MEMORY(HEAP) vs. InnoDB in a Read and Write Envirnment

  I want to programm a real-time application using MySQL. It needs a small table (less than 10000 rows) that will be under heavy read (scan) and write (update and some insert/delete) load. I am really speaking of 10000 updates or selects per second. These statements will be executed on only a few (less than 10) open mysql connections. The table is small and does not contain any data that needs to be stored on disk. So I ask which is faster: InnoDB or MEMORY (HEAP)? My thoughts are: Both enginges will probably serve SELECTs directly from memory, as even InnoDB will cache the whole table. What about the UPDATAEs? (innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit?) My main concern is the locking behavior: InnoDB row lock vs. MEMORY table lock. Will this present the bottleneck in the MEMORY implementation? Thanks for your thoughts!

  Is there a way to merge two primary keys into one and then cascade update all affected relationships? Here's the scenario: Customers (idCustomer int PK, Company varchar(50), etc) CustomerContacts (idCustomerContact int PK, idCustomer int FK, Name varchar(50), etc) CustomerNotes (idCustomerNote int PK, idCustomer int FK, Note Text, etc) Sometimes customers need to be merged into one. For example, you have a customer with the id of 1 and another with the id of 2. You want to merge both, so that everything that was 2 is now 1. I know I could write a script that updates all affected tables one by one, but I'd like to make it more future proof by using the cascade rules, so I don't have to update the script every time there is a new relationship added. Any ideas?
