• Symfony deploying issue

  I have some problem while configuring symfony project on the production server. • visual studio attaching to a process in debug mode

  i have a strange problem. the dll that i built (lets call it my.dll) in c++ visual studio 2010 uses a third party library (say tp.lib) which in turn calls a third party dll (say tp.dll). for debugging prupose i have in configurationProperties-debugging-command: Excel.exe and configurationProperties-debugging-commandArguments: "$(TargetPath)" in my computer i also set PATH variable to the directory where tp.dll resides now when i hit the F5 in visual studio excel opens up with my.dll and crashes giving me a "cannot open in dos mode" error. the reason this happens is tp.dll is not deployed when debug version of my.dll is deployed. when i open an instance of excel seperately and manually drop the debug version of my.dll then everything works fine and i can see all my functions that i wrote in my.dll the only issue is now i do not know how to debug becuase i do not know how to attach visual studio to the instance of excel i opened up seperately. my question is: 1 how can i attach visual studio to an already opened instance of Excel or 2 how can i hit F5 and still make Excel pick up the required tp.dll from the directory specified in the PATH variable before it starts to deploy my.dll. any of these two will allow my to step through the code for the purpose of debugging. thanks in advance.

• Boost shared_ptr use_count function

  My application problem is the following - I have a large structure foo. Because these are large and for memory management reasons, we do not wish to delete them when processing on the data is complete. We are storing them in std::vector<boost::shared_ptr<foo>>. My question is related to knowing when all processing is complete. First decision is that we do not want any of the other application code to mark a complete flag in the structure because there are multiple execution paths in the program and we cannot predict which one is the last. So in our implementation, once processing is complete, we delete all copies of boost::shared_ptr<foo>> except for the one in the vector. This will drop the reference counter in the shared_ptr to 1. Is it practical to use shared_ptr.use_count() to see if it is equal to 1 to know when all other parts of my app are done with the data. One additional reason I'm asking the question is that the boost documentation on the shared pointer shared_ptr recommends not using "use_count" for production code.

• After mysql_query, no result output

  I have a simple mysql_query() update command to update mysql. When a user submits my form, it will jump to an update page to update the data. The problem is that there's supposed to be some data shown after the update, but it comes out blank. • Starting a personal reuasable code repository.

  Hi, I've been meaning to start a library of reusable code snippets for a while and never seem to get round to it. At the moment I just tend to have some transient classes/files that I drag out of old projects. I think my main problems are: Where to start. What structure should my repository take? Should it be a compiled library (where appropriate) or just classes/files I can drop into any project? Or a library project that can be included? What are the licencing implications of that? In my experience, a built/minified library will quickly become out of date and the source will get lost. So I'm leaning towards source that I can export from SVN and include in any project. Intellectual property. I am employeed, so a lot of the code I write is not my IP. How can I ensure that I don't give my own IP away using it on projects in work and at home? I'm thinking the best way would be to licence my library with an open source licence and make sure I only add to it in my own time using my own equipment and therefore making sure that if I use it in a work project the same rules apply as if I was using a third party library. I write in many different languages and often would require two or more parts of this library. Should I look at implementing a few template projects and a core project for each of my chosen reusable components and languages? Has anyone else got this sort of library and how do you organise and update it?

• What considerations should be made when creating a reporting framework for a business?

  It's a pretty classic problem. The company I work for has numerous business reports that are used to track sales, data feeds, and various other metrics. Of course this also means that there is a conglomerate of disparate frameworks, ASP.net pages, and areas where these reports can be found. There have been some attempts at consolidating these into a single entity, but nothing has stuck yet. Since this is a common problem, and I am sure solved innumerable times, I wanted to see what others have done. For the most part these can be boiled down to the following pieces: A SQL query against our database to gather data A presentation of data, generally in a data grid Filtering that can vary based on data types and the business needs Some way to organize the reports, a single drop down gets long and unmanageable quickly A method to download data to alter further, perhaps a csv file My first thought was to create a framework in Silverlight with Linq to Sql. Mainly just because I like it and want to play with it which probably is not the best reason. I also thought the controls grant a lot of functionality like sorting, dragging columns, etc. I was also curious about the printing in Silverlight 4. Which brings me around to my original question, what is the best way to do this? Is there a package out there I can just buy that will do it for me? The Silverlight approach seems pretty easy, after it's setup and templated, but maybe it's a bad idea and I can learn from someone else?

• How to save enum settings in Visual Studio project properties?

  Hi, In the Settings tab in Visual Studio, I can see Name, Type, Scope, Value table. Define settings is intuitive if the data type is already within the Type drop-down list i.e. integer, string, long etc. But I can't find enum anywhere. How do I save enum settings then? For now, I have the following which clutter my code too much. public enum Action { LOCK = 9, FORCED_LOGOFF = 12, SHUTDOWN = 14, REBOOT, LOGOFF = FORCED_LOGOFF }; and I define Action as int in the setting. Then I have to do, switch (Properties.Settings.Default.Action) { case 9: SetAction(Action.LOCK); break; case 12: SetAction(Action.FORCED_LOGOFF); break; case 14: SetAction(Action.SHUTDOWN); break; case 15: SetAction(Action.REBOOT); break; default: SetAction(Action.LOCK); break; } Would be nice if I could simply do something like SetAction(Properties.Settings.Default.Action); to replace all above but I dont know how to save enum in setting. • Data Structure / Hash Function to link Sets of Ints to Value

  Given n integer id's, I wish to link all possible sets of up to k id's to a constant value. What I'm looking for is a way to translate sets (e.g. {1, 5}, {1, 3, 5} and {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7}) to unique values. Guarantees: n < 100 and k < 10 (again: set sizes will range in [1, k]). The order of id's doesn't matter: {1, 5} == {5, 1}. All combinations are possible, but some may be excluded. All sets and values are constant and made only once. No deletes or inserts, no value updates. Once generated, the only operations taking place will be look-ups. Look-ups will be frequent and one-directional (given set, look up value). There is no need to sort (or otherwise organize) the values. Additionally, it would be nice (but not obligatory) if "neighboring" sets (drop one id, add one id, swap one id, etc) are easy to reach, as well as "all sets that include at least this set". Any ideas?

The problem is that several databases are using the same TEMP table. Therefore I need to use a VARIABLE table (instead of a temporary table). What I have below is not working because it says that the table must be declared. DECLARE @CTRFRResult TABLE ( CTRFRResult VARCHAR(MAX) ) SET @CTRFR = 'insert into @CTRFRResult ' + @CTRFR -- I think the issue is here. How is this caused and how can I solve it?

• filtering search results with php

  Hello, Cant really find any useful information on this through Google so hope someone here with some knowledge can help. I have a set of results which are pulled from a multi dimensional array. Currently the array key is the price of a product whilst the item contains another array which contains all the product details. key=>Item(name=>test, foo=>bar) So currently when I list the items I just order by the key, smallest first and it lists the products smallest price first. However I want to build on this so that when a user sees the results they can choose other ordering options like list all products by a name, certain manufacturer, colour, x ,y ,z etc etc from a drop down box(or something similar) This is where I need some guidance. Im just not sure how to go about it or best practise or anything. The only way I can think of is to order all the items by the nested array eg by the name, manufacturer etc. but how do I do that in PHP? Hope you understand what im trying to achieve(if not just ask). Any help on this with ideas, approaches or examples would be great. Thanks for reading p.s Im using PHP5

Can someone explain to me whats going on, I think it might be a syntax issue.

• Mysql dropping inserts with triggers

  Using mysql 5.5. I have two tables. One has a whitelist of hashes. When I insert a new row into the other table, I want to first compare the hash in the insert statement to the whitelist. If it's in the whitelist, I don't want to do the insert (less data to plow through later). The inserts are generated from another program and are text files with sql statements. I've been playing with triggers, and almost have it working: BEGIN IF (select count(md5hash) from whitelist where md5hash=new.md5hash) 0 THEN SIGNAL SQLSTATE '45000' SET MESSAGE_TEXT = 'Already Whitelisted'; END IF; END But there's a problem. The Signal throwing up the error stops the import. I want to skip that line, not stop the whole import. Some searching didn't find any way to silently skip the import. My next idea was to create a duplicate table definition, and redirect the insert to that dup table. But the old and new don't seem to apply to table names. Other then adding an ignore column to my table then doing a mass drop based on that column after the import, is there any way to achieve my goal?

• Best Approach for Checking and Inserting Records

  In one of our existing C programs which purpose is: Open connection to DB for record in all_record: if record contain certain data: if record is NOT in table A: // see #1 insert record information into table A and B // see #2 Close connection to DB select field from table where field=XXX 2 inserts This is typically done every X months to sync everything up or so I'm told. I've also been told that this process takes roughly a couple of days. There is (currently) at most 2.5million records (though not necessarily all 2.5m will be inserted). One of the table contains 10 fields and the other 5 fields. There isn't much to be done about iterating through the records since that part can't be changed at the moment. What I would like to do is speed up the part where I query MySQL. I'm not sure if I have left out any important details -- please let me know! I'm also no SQL expert so feel free to point out the obvious. I thought about: Putting all the inserts into a transaction (at the moment I'm not sure how important it is for the transaction to be all-or-none or if this affects performance) Using Insert X Where Not Exists Y LOAD DATA INFILE (but that would require I create a (possibly) large temp file) I read that (hopefully someone can confirm) I should drop indexes so they aren't re-calculated. mysql Ver 14.7 Distrib 4.1.22, for sun-solaris2.10 (sparc) using readline 4.3

• AS3 TextField is blank, doesn't accept any of my settings??

  Having a strange issue with assigning a TextField to a movie clip. nameFormat = new TextFormat(); nameFormat.size = 14; nameFormat.color = "0x000000"; nameFormat.border = true; nameFormat.font = "Arial"; charName = new TextField(); charName.defaultTextFormat = nameFormat; charName.text = value.charname; charName.x = 92.5; charName.y = 6.5; charName.width = 205; charName.height = 21; thechars[value.charid].addChild(charName); If I trace charName.text it traces correctly, but when the containing movieclip is displayed, it is always blank and none of my settings (borders, background color, etc..) show up. I'm placing several of these movieclips into another movieclip, which is then added to a scroller as such: scrollContent.addChild(thechars[newvalue.charid]); theScroller.source = scrollContent; The strange thing is that I am using the exact same method to drop a button into each of the 'thechars' and it shows up and works fine. AND... if I hover my mouse over the spot where the textField should be, I can see my mouse change from a pointer to a text cursor, so the textFields are showing up, they are just blank? Help?

  I have a foreach statement where I go through several lines from a text file, where I have trimmed down and sorted out the lines I need. What I want to do is count up on how many times an identical string is present. How do I do this? Here is my code.   Hi, I am using the following code to create a new site: newWeb = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current).Web.Webs.Add(newSiteUrl, newSiteName, null, (uint)1033, siteTemplate, true, false); try { newWeb.Update(); } NewSiteUrl and newSiteName are values from two textboxes and on whichever site I use this code (in a web part) the new site will be a subsite to this site. I would now like to be able to select a parent site so that the new site can sit anywhere in the site collection, not just as a subsite to the site where I use the web part. I created the following function to get all the sites in the site collection and populate a drop down with the name and url for every site private void getSites() { SPSite oSiteCollection = SPContext.Current.Site; SPWebCollection collWebsite = oSiteCollection.AllWebs; for (int i = 0; i < collWebsite.Count; i++) { ddlParentSite.Items.Add(new ListItem(collWebsite[i].Title, collWebsite[i].Url)); } oSiteCollection.Dispose(); } If the user selects a site in the dropdown, is it possible to use that URL in newSiteUrl so decide where the new site should be? I don't get it to work really and the new site still becomes a subsite to the current one. I guess it has to do with HttpContext.Current? Any ideas on how I should do it instead?   We have a number of customers that we have to send monthly invoices too. Right now, I'm managing a codebase that does SQL queries against our customer database and billing database and places that data into emails - and sends it. I grow weary of maintaining this every time we want to include a new promotion or change our customer service phone numbers. So, I'm looking for a replacement to move more of this into the hands of those requesting the changes. In my ideal world, I need : A WYSIWYG (man, does anyone even say that anymore?) email editor that generates templates based upon the output from a Database Query. The ability to drag and drop various fields from the database query into the email template. Display of sample email results with the database query. Web application, preferably not requiring IIS. Involve as little code as possible for the end-user, but allow basic functionality (i.e. arrays/for loops) Either comes with it's own email delivery engine, or writes output in a way that I can easily write a Python script to deliver the email. Support for generic Database Connectors. (I need MSSQL and MySQL) F/OSS So ... can anyone suggest a project like this, or some tools that'd be useful for rolling my own? (My current alternative idea is using something like ERB or Tenjin, having them write the code, but not having live-preview for the editor would suck...)

• Length of a string in pixels

  Guys, I'm populating a dropDownList with arrayCollection of strings. I want the width of the drop down list control to match with the size (in pixels) of the longest string in the array collection. The problem I'm facing is: the font width of the strings in the collection are different e.g. 'W' looks wider than 'l'. So I estimated the width of a character to be 8 pixels but that's not pretty neat. If a string that has many 'W' and 'M' is encountered the estimation is wrong. So I want precise pixel width of strings. How can i get the exact length of a string in pixels?? • 2 basic but interesting questions about .NET

  Hi, when I first saw C#, I thought this must be some joke. I was starting with programming in C. But in C# you could just drag and drop objects, and just write event code to them. It was so simple. Now, I still like C the most, becouse I am very attracted to the basic low level operations, and C is just next level of assembler, with few basic routines, so I like it very much. Even more becouse I write little apps for microcontrollers. But yeasterday I wrote very simple control program for my microcontroller based LED cube in asm, and I needed some way to simply create animation sequences to the Cube. So, I remembered C#. I have practically NO C# skills, but still I created simple program to make animation sequences in about hour with GUI, just with help of google and help of the embeded function descriptions in C#. So, to get to the point, is there some other reason then top speed, to use any other language than C#? I mean, it is so effective. I know that Java is a bit of similiar, but I expect C# to be more Windows effective since its directly from Microsoft. The second question is, what is the advantage of compiling into CIL, and than run by CLR, than directly compile it into machine code? I know that portability is one, but since C# is mainly for Windows, wouldn´t it be more powerfull to just compile it directly? Thanks.
