  One of the problems web apps have against native apps, especially on the mobile front, is the constant need to re-download each web page on request. Ultimately, this leads to slower performance. Why if web apps only download new pages if they're actually needed, not because they're simply requested. For example: perhaps the server can store a web page version in a cookie. Every slight change to the page on the server-side changes the version number. Now instead of the browser requesting a new page each time, why not just check the version number and have the server send the page if they're different? If the page similar, the user can just use a cached page. I'm sure browsers doesn't necessarily have to change to accommodate changes to this, correct?

  Why do we use to talk about addresses and memory of variable in C, where in other languages (like in Java, .Net etc) we do not talk about variable address and memory in a program, we will directly use the variables. But in C Language we are listening the word address and memory. How to explain this? I hope C is high level language designed over the assembly language. So C is a thin layer over assembly language (in assembly language we will use memory locations to store a variable and track a variable). But in other languages these addresses and memory related things are wrapped in that specific language, so that we will not listen these words.

  I have two light sources on my scene. I created two fbo's which store depth textures for these lights. A render loop looks like this: bind fbo1 save depth values for first light unbind fbo1 bind fbo2 save depth values for second light unbind fbo2 enable additive blending bind first depth texture render scene bind second depth texture render scene disable additive blending For one light source the program works fine. For many light sources I use an additive blending to acumulate lighting results but then some objects become transparent (for example when an object which is further away from the camera is drawn before an object which is closer to the camera). How to resolve that problem ? How should I accumulate lighting effects for many light sources (many shadow maps) ? P.S. I use OpenGL/GLSL 3.3+

  I get TONS of email from customer. Over time, this email helps me to determine what areas in our product collection are opportunities for enhancement or improvement. I store the email that comes from my blog contact form in folders and then search through them looking for trends periodically. It occurred to me that, while I need to get the emails because many of them are actionable, it would be great if I could use reporting and analysis tools against the collection.   I have a Debian based box in my house that runs as a webserver, and a 4GB bootable usb-stick with Ubuntu. I need to store stuff on a server and Ubuntu One seems an ok way to go but I find that 2GB is not sufficient. I can most likely solve that when I install this server software. Where can I find it - there is no ubuntu-one-server package or similar in the Software Centre. How can I install the Ubuntu One server software or an alternative?

  The good folks who created the SVN version control system use a structure they refer to as "skip deltas" to store the revision history of files internally. A revision is stored as a delta against an earlier revision. An example might be changing a label’s text to reflect some content (e.g. customer name) being viewed or maybe to change the visibility of a control depending on the rights a user may have in the application.   We have IAppContext which is injected into ViewModel. This service contains shared data: global filters and other application wide properties. But there are cases when data is very specific. For example one VM implements Master and the second one - Details of selected tree item. Thus DetailsVm must know about the selected item and its changes. We can store this information either in IAppContext or inside each concerned VM. In both cases update notifications are sent via Messenger. I see pros and cons for any of the approaches and can not decide which one is better. 1st: + explicitly exposed shared proerties, easy to follow dependencies - IAppContxt becomes cluttered with very specific data. 2nd: the exact opposite of the first and more memory load due to data duplication. May be someone can offer design alternatives or tell that one of the variants is objectively superior to the other cause I miss something important?

  I have no previous experience on creating a project for a seller which will use barcode reader. I am trying to put together a small project but I cannot figure out how the pieces should glue together. I will create a sample with Motorola Scanner SDK to read barcodes and from that point, I have couple of questions: How UPC barcodes work in general? AFAIK, a barcode stores the manufacturer and product info but no price data. Should I store price information inside a database which corresponds to barcode data? I would really appreciate if you can guide me here.

The logic I would use for the program is. Get input a. Store a % 2 as b. If b is 0, then b is even, else b is odd. The catch though, is that we have to write the program without the use of a if-else statement. I have been thinking on how to approach the problem for the past few hours, but I have no clue what to do. Any hints or suggestions?

• Auto mount USB drive with permissions for all users

  I have an Ubuntu 14.04 based Media Center and I store the media files on a USB HDD. I add files to drive directly on a Mac so I have it formatted as FAT32. The problem is that after reconnecting the drive to the Ubuntu, it mounts at /media/user/drivename and only the root user is allowed access. I need several applications to have full access to this drive. I can change file permissions in the terminal but it doesn't change because of the /media/user location. I am able to manually sudo mount /dev/sdc1 /media/drivename & sudo chmod 777 /media/drivename but the mount point changes each time. Is there a way to make this drive always mount where root and other applications have access?

  Say you are using C/SDL for a 2D game project. It's often the case that people use a structure to represent a frame in an animation. The struct consists of an image and how much time the frame is supposed to be visible. Is this data sufficient to represent somewhat complex animation? Is it a good idea to separate animation management code and animation data? Can somebody provide a link to animations tutorials that store animations in a file and retrieve them when needed. I read this in a book (AI game programming wisdom) but would like to see a real implementation.

• Should I create an Enum mapping to my database table

  I have a database table containing a list of systems relevant to the tool I am building, mostly in-house applications, or third-party systems we receive data from. This table is added to infrequently, approx every 2 months. One of these systems is Windows itself, which is where we store our users' LANs, and I now need to explicitly reference the ID relating to Windows to query for user name, team etc. I know it would be bad practice to embed the ID itself into the code, so my question is what would be the best way to avoid this? I'm assuming my options are: create a global constant representing this ID create a global enum containing all systems now create a global enum and add systems to it as & when they are required in the code retrieve the ID from the database based on system name I appreciate this may seem a trivial question, but I am going to have many situations like this during the course of this build, and although we are in complete control of the database I would like to conform to best practice as far as possible. • Starting Game Programming in C++, where to begin for optimal cross-platform development?

  I wish to begin learning game development in C++. I have knowledge in syntax and the console using Visual C++ 2010, however I want to begin programming. My only problem is that I want to be able to support many platforms including Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. As I get better, I also hope I can submit games to XBLIG (or XBLA) and Steam, and even the Google Play Store (But that would take some porting and major redesign of controls). I have looked into c++ and SDL but I have no idea how to get started. I have Visual C++ 2010 installed and I hope I can still use that as other C++ IDEs are quit outdated. Because I want to stick with Visual C++ and SDL (unless there is a better library than SDL), there is not much room for debate but rather how to create projects to support cross-platform development.

  I've just noticed a root directory (/build) which I can't seem to find any information for. It looks like it's some sort of staging ground for PEAR (PHP). There are only two folders of different php versions in it, and each of those has a few PEAR tar files I've installed (via the PEAR command line). I'm really only asking this question because I find is strange PEAR (and only PEAR) would create its own root directory to store files. Is this normal? Does Ubuntu provide a /build directory for applications to use?

  I am a new Ubuntu user who has spent a lot of time on Windows. A very common practice for me on Windows was making two drives, C: and D: , storing installs/files in C:, and I used D: for backup or if I downloaded something that I wanted to save, I saved in D: When installing Ubuntu, it asked me if I wanted to replace Windows 7. I thought it would install Ubuntu on C: but instead it used the whole partition, nevertheless I recovered my backup using testdisk. What I wanted to do was to create a similar backup drive on Linux too. My current partition table: sda 8:0 0 232.9G 0 disk +-sda1 8:1 0 230.9G 0 part / +-sda2 8:2 0 1K 0 part +-sda5 8:5 0 2G 0 part [SWAP] sr0 11:0 1 1024M 0 rom So should I use Gparted to create another sda3 and store my important data on that? Also my current sda2 is listed as an extended partition, should I delete it? It's a very small partition, just 1K.

• Structuring an input file

  I am in the process of structuring a small program to perform some hydraulic analysis of pipe flow. As I am envisioning this, the program will read an input file, store the input parameters in a suitable way, operate on them and finally output results. I am struggling with how to structure the input file in a sane way; that is, in a way that a human can write it easily and a machine can parse it easily. A sample input file made available to me for a similar program is just a stream of comma-separated numbers that don't make much sense on their own, so that's the scenario I am trying to avoid. Though I am giving the details of my particular problem, I am more interested in general input-file structuring strategies. Is a stream of comma-separated values my best bet? Would I be better off using some sort of key:value structure? I don't know much about this, so any help will probably put me in a better track than I am now.

  I have hundreds of passwords, since I use a different random one for each website/service. They are all generated & stored with KeePassX, which can be synced to different computers and my android phone via dropbox (or ubuntuone). I know the database of KeePassX is secure (at least with a good passphrase). But what about when I am copying the password into the clipboard (where it is stored for 5 seconds)? Can any program running in user-space access the clipboard and store the password? If so, how big of a security risk is this?
