  • replace new lines with comas in shell

    - by mpapis
I want to replace new lines in text with coma or space but do not change the last new line. I know of this question: How to replace new lines with tab characters - but it does produce an tab on end instead of new line. So far I have come with: awk 'NR>1{printf","} {printf $1} END{printf"\n"}' Is there an easier way to do this? This is not an assignment, I am just curious want to level up my scripting.

  • \sbox from inside an environment

    - by Miek Gieben
    I'm trying to save some text inside an environment for later use. The smallest test case I could come up with is this. The saved text in the sbox isn't available after the environment is closed. How can I work around that? Thanks. \documentclass{article} \begin{document} \newsavebox{\somebox} \begin{itemize} \item hello1 \item hello1 \sbox{\somebox}{Some text} \end{itemize} This should show something, but does not: "\usebox{\somebox}" \end{document}

  • safe dereferencing and deletion

    - by serejko
Hi, I'm relatively new to C++ and OOP in general and currently trying to make such a class that allows to dereference and delete a dead or invalid pointer without any care of having undefined behavior or program fault in result, and I want to ask you is it a good idea and is there something similar which is already implemented by someone else? or maybe I'm doing something completely wrong? I've just started making it and here is the code I currently have: template<class T> class SafeDeref { public: T& operator *() { hash_set<T*>::iterator it = theStore.find(reinterpret_cast<T*>(ptr)); if (it != theStore.end()) return *this; return theDefaultObject; } T* operator ->() { hash_set<T*>::iterator it = theStore.find(reinterpret_cast<T*>(ptr)); if (it != theStore.end()) return this; return &theDefaultObject; } void* operator new(size_t size) { void* ptr = malloc(size * sizeof(T)); if (ptr != 0) theStore.insert(reinterpret_cast<T*>(ptr)); return ptr; } void operator delete(void* ptr) { hash_set<T*>::iterator it = theStore.find(reinterpret_cast<T*>(ptr)); if (it != theStore.end()) { theStore.erase(it); free(ptr); } } protected: static bool isInStore(T* ptr) { return theStore.find(ptr) != theStore.end(); } private: static T theDefaultObject; static hash_set<T*> theStore; }; The idea is that each class with the safe dereference should be inherited from it like this: class Foo : public SafeDeref<Foo> { void doSomething(); }; So... Any advices? Thanks in advance. P.S. If you're wondering why I need this... well, I'm creating a set of native functions for some scripting environment, and all of them use pointers to internally allocated objects as handles to them and they're able to delete them as well (input data can be wrong), so this is kinda protection from damaging host application's memory And I really sorry for my bad English

  • Information not getting into the controller from the view. (authologic model)

    - by Gotjosh
Right now I'm building a project management app in rails, here is some background info: Right now i have 2 models, one is User and the other one is Client. Clients and Users have a one-to-one relationship (client - has_one and user - belongs_to which means that the foreign key it's in the users table) So what I'm trying to do it's once you add a client you can actually add credentials (add an user) to that client, in order to do so all the clients are being displayed with a link next to that client's name meaning that you can actually create credentials for that client. So in order to do that I'm using a helper the link to helper like this. <%= link_to "Credentials", {:controller => 'user', :action => 'new', :client_id => client.id} %> Meaning that he url will be constructed like this: http://localhost:3000/clients/2/user/new By creating the user for the client with he ID of 2. And then capturing the info into the controller like this: @user = User.new(:client_id => params[:client_id]) The weird thing is that EVERY other information BUT the client id it's getting passed and the client ID should be passed with the params[:client_id]. Any ideas? Perhaps it may have something to do with the fact that model User has "acts_as_authentic" because I'm using authologic for it? Model: class User < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_authentic belongs_to :client end Controller: def create @user = User.new(:client_id => params[:client_id]) if @user.save flash[:notice] = "Credentials created" else flash[:error] = "Credentials failed" end end View: <% form_for @user do |f| % <p> <%= f.label :login, "Username" %> <%= f.text_field :login %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :password, "Password" %> <%= f.password_field :password %> </p> <p> <%= f.label :password_confirmation, "Password Confirmation" %> <%= f.password_field :password_confirmation %> </p> Let me know if this is sufficient or need more. <%= f.submit "Create", :disable_with => 'Please Wait...' %> <% end %>

  • boolean VB expression returning false for integer 1

    - by Bill
This is probably a really basic (no pun intended) question, but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. Why does the result of func1 return False and func2 returns True? On every other test I have done, integer 1 is converted to boolean true and 0 to false. Works ok if I just set rtnValue to 1 or 0. Public Function func1() As Boolean Dim rtnValue As Integer = 0 Return rtnValue = 1 End Function Public Function func2() As Boolean Dim rtnValue As Integer = 0 Return rtnValue = 0 End Function

  • Android TextView

    - by user353528
Hi! I have an Android TextView where the view itself is limited to four lines. If the text exceeds this limit I want the end of the view to end with something like .. <-- to notify that there is more text here so you can click and open in fullscreen for example. Not just suddenly stop in the middle of a sentence. Is there a quick fix for this?

  • Is there an easy way to "append()" two dictionaries together in Python?

    - by digitaldreamer
If I have two dictionaries I'd like to combine in Python, i.e. a = {'1': 1, '2': 2} b = {'3': 3, '4': 4} If I run update on them it reorders the list: a.update(b) {'1': 1, '3': 3, '2': 2, '4': 4} when what I really want is attach "b" to the end of "a": {'1': 1, '2': 2, '3': 3, '4': 4} Is there an easy way to attach "b" to the end of "a" without having to manually combine them like so: for key in b: a[key]=b[key] Something like += or append() would be ideal, but of course neither works on dictionaries.

  • How to override 'where' in rails 3

    - by Zakwan Alhajjar
I have upgraded my application from rails 2.3.8 to 3.0.3 . But I'm facing a problem. I was using 'find' but the overriding doesn't work in rails 3: # override activerecord's find to allow us to find by name or id transparently def self.find(*args) if args.is_a?(Array) and args.first.is_a?(String) and (args.first.index(/[a-zA-Z\-_]+/) or args.first.to_i.eql?(0) ) find_by_login_slug(args) else super end end I'm wondering if there is a way to make this work in rails 3 or even by using where instead. thanks
