  • Stored procedure to remove FK of a given table

    - by Nicole
    I need to create a stored procedure that: Accepts a table name as a parameter Find its dependencies (FKs) Removes them Truncate the table I created the following so far based on http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1376/disable-enable-drop-and-recreate-sql-server-foreign-keys/ . My problem is that the following script successfully does 1 and 2 and generates queries to alter tables but does not actually execute them. In another word how can execute the resulting "Alter Table ..." queries to actually remove FKs? CREATE PROCEDURE DropDependencies(@TableName VARCHAR(50)) AS BEGIN SELECT 'ALTER TABLE ' + OBJECT_SCHEMA_NAME(parent_object_id) + '.[' + OBJECT_NAME(parent_object_id) + '] DROP CONSTRAINT ' + name FROM sys.foreign_keys WHERE referenced_object_id=object_id(@TableName) END EXEC DropDependencies 'TableName' Any idea is appreciated! Update: I added the cursor to the SP but I still get and error: "Msg 203, Level 16, State 2, Procedure DropRestoreDependencies, Line 75 The name 'ALTER TABLE [dbo].[ChildTable] DROP CONSTRAINT [FK__ChileTable__ParentTable__745C7C5D]' is not a valid identifier." Here is the updated SP: CREATE PROCEDURE DropRestoreDependencies(@schemaName sysname, @tableName sysname) AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON DECLARE @operation VARCHAR(10) SET @operation = 'DROP' --ENABLE, DISABLE, DROP DECLARE @cmd NVARCHAR(1000) DECLARE @FK_NAME sysname, @FK_OBJECTID INT, @FK_DISABLED INT, @FK_NOT_FOR_REPLICATION INT, @DELETE_RULE smallint, @UPDATE_RULE smallint, @FKTABLE_NAME sysname, @FKTABLE_OWNER sysname, @PKTABLE_NAME sysname, @PKTABLE_OWNER sysname, @FKCOLUMN_NAME sysname, @PKCOLUMN_NAME sysname, @CONSTRAINT_COLID INT DECLARE cursor_fkeys CURSOR FOR SELECT Fk.name, Fk.OBJECT_ID, Fk.is_disabled, Fk.is_not_for_replication, Fk.delete_referential_action, Fk.update_referential_action, OBJECT_NAME(Fk.parent_object_id) AS Fk_table_name, schema_name(Fk.schema_id) AS Fk_table_schema, TbR.name AS Pk_table_name, schema_name(TbR.schema_id) Pk_table_schema FROM sys.foreign_keys Fk LEFT OUTER JOIN sys.tables TbR ON TbR.OBJECT_ID = Fk.referenced_object_id --inner join WHERE TbR.name = @tableName AND schema_name(TbR.schema_id) = @schemaName OPEN cursor_fkeys FETCH NEXT FROM cursor_fkeys INTO @FK_NAME,@FK_OBJECTID, @FK_DISABLED, @FK_NOT_FOR_REPLICATION, @DELETE_RULE, @UPDATE_RULE, @FKTABLE_NAME, @FKTABLE_OWNER, @PKTABLE_NAME, @PKTABLE_OWNER WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0 BEGIN -- create statement for dropping FK and also for recreating FK IF @operation = 'DROP' BEGIN -- drop statement SET @cmd = 'ALTER TABLE [' + @FKTABLE_OWNER + '].[' + @FKTABLE_NAME + '] DROP CONSTRAINT [' + @FK_NAME + ']' EXEC @cmd -- create process DECLARE @FKCOLUMNS VARCHAR(1000), @PKCOLUMNS VARCHAR(1000), @COUNTER INT -- create cursor to get FK columns DECLARE cursor_fkeyCols CURSOR FOR SELECT COL_NAME(Fk.parent_object_id, Fk_Cl.parent_column_id) AS Fk_col_name, COL_NAME(Fk.referenced_object_id, Fk_Cl.referenced_column_id) AS Pk_col_name FROM sys.foreign_keys Fk LEFT OUTER JOIN sys.tables TbR ON TbR.OBJECT_ID = Fk.referenced_object_id INNER JOIN sys.foreign_key_columns Fk_Cl ON Fk_Cl.constraint_object_id = Fk.OBJECT_ID WHERE TbR.name = @tableName AND schema_name(TbR.schema_id) = @schemaName AND Fk_Cl.constraint_object_id = @FK_OBJECTID -- added 6/12/2008 ORDER BY Fk_Cl.constraint_column_id OPEN cursor_fkeyCols FETCH NEXT FROM cursor_fkeyCols INTO @FKCOLUMN_NAME,@PKCOLUMN_NAME SET @COUNTER = 1 SET @FKCOLUMNS = '' SET @PKCOLUMNS = '' WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0 BEGIN IF @COUNTER > 1 BEGIN SET @FKCOLUMNS = @FKCOLUMNS + ',' SET @PKCOLUMNS = @PKCOLUMNS + ',' END SET @FKCOLUMNS = @FKCOLUMNS + '[' + @FKCOLUMN_NAME + ']' SET @PKCOLUMNS = @PKCOLUMNS + '[' + @PKCOLUMN_NAME + ']' SET @COUNTER = @COUNTER + 1 FETCH NEXT FROM cursor_fkeyCols INTO @FKCOLUMN_NAME,@PKCOLUMN_NAME END CLOSE cursor_fkeyCols DEALLOCATE cursor_fkeyCols END FETCH NEXT FROM cursor_fkeys INTO @FK_NAME,@FK_OBJECTID, @FK_DISABLED, @FK_NOT_FOR_REPLICATION, @DELETE_RULE, @UPDATE_RULE, @FKTABLE_NAME, @FKTABLE_OWNER, @PKTABLE_NAME, @PKTABLE_OWNER END CLOSE cursor_fkeys DEALLOCATE cursor_fkeys END For running use: EXEC DropRestoreDependencies dbo, ParentTable

    - by Sly
    I have a legacy data base and a relation one-to-one between two tables. The thing is that relation uses two columns, not one. Is there some way to say in nhibernate that when getting a referenced entity it used two columns in join statement, not one? I'm trying to use this: References(x => x.Template) .Columns() .PropertyRef() But can't get how to map join on multiple columns, any ideas?

But I want to know, is there any drastic effects of the same if I neglect positions of tables and columns in complex queries or tables having tons of data like thousands and lakhs of rows...

  • How do I map a one-to-one value type association in an joined-subclass?

    - by David Rubin
    I've got a class hierarchy mapped using table-per-subclass, and it's been working out great: class BasicReport { ... } class SpecificReport : BasicReport { ... } With mappings: <class name="BasicReport" table="reports"> <id name="Id" column="id">...</id> <!-- some common properties --> </class> <joined-subclass name="SpecificReport" table="specificReports" extends="BasicReport"> <key column="id"/> <!-- some special properties --> </joined-subclass> So far, so good. The problem I'm struggling with is how to add a property to one of my subclasses that's both a value type for which I have an IUserType implemented and also mapped via an association: class OtherReport : BasicReport { public SpecialValue V { get; set; } } class SpecialValueUserType : IUserType { ... } What I'd like to do is: <joined-subclass name="OtherReport" table="otherReports" extends="BasicReport"> <key column="id"/> <join table="rptValues" fetch="join"> <key column="rptId"/> <property name="V" column="value" type="SpecialValueUserType"/> </join> </joined-subclass> This accurately reflects the intent, and the pre-existing database schema I'm tied to: the SpecialValue instance is a property of the OtherReport, but is stored in a separate table ("rptValues"). Unfortunately, it seems as though I can't do this, because <join> elements can't be used in <joined-subclass> mappings. <one-to-one> would require creating a class mapping for SpecialValue, which doesn't make any sense given that SpecialValue is just a meaningful scalar. So what can I do? Do I have any options? Right now I'm playing a game with sets: class OtherReport : BasicReport { public SpecialValue V { get { return _values.Count() > 0 ? _values.First() : null; } set { _values.Clear(); _values.Add(value); } } private ICollection<SpecialValue> _values; } With mapping: <joined-subclass name="OtherReport" table="otherReports" extends="BasicReport"> <key column="id"/> <set name="_values" access="field" table="rptValues" cascade="all-delete-orphan"> <key column="rptId" /> <element column="value" type="SpecialValueUserType"/> </set> </joined-subclass> Thanks in advance for the help! I've been banging my head into my desk for several days now.

Scan count 5977, logical reads 7527408, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0. Table 'TASK_REQUESTS'. Scan count 1, logical reads 11, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0. SQL Server Execution Times: CPU time = 58157 ms, elapsed time = 61437 ms. If I instead introduce a temporary table then the query returns quickly and performs less logical reads: CREATE TABLE #MyTable(RGN VARCHAR(20) NOT NULL, CD VARCHAR(20) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY([RGN],[CD])); INSERT INTO #MyTable(RGN, CD) SELECT RGN, CD FROM TASK_REQUESTS WHERE TASK='UPDATE_MEM_BAL'; SELECT T.RGN, T.CD, T.FUND_CD, T.TRDT, SUM(T2.UNITS) AS TotalUnits FROM dbo.TRANS AS T JOIN dbo.TRANS AS T2 ON T2.RGN=T.RGN AND T2.CD=T.CD AND T2.FUND_CD=T.FUND_CD AND T2.TRDT<=T.TRDT JOIN #MyTable AS T3 ON T3.CD=T.CD AND T3.RGN=T.RGN GROUP BY T.RGN, T.CD, T.FUND_CD, T.TRDT (4447 row(s) affected) Table 'Worktable'. Scan count 5974, logical reads 382339, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0. Table 'TRANSACTIONS'. Scan count 4, logical reads 4547, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0. Table '#MyTable________________________________________________________________000000000013'. Scan count 1, logical reads 2, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0. SQL Server Execution Times: CPU time = 1420 ms, elapsed time = 1515 ms. The interesting thing for me is that the TASK_REQUEST table is a small table (3 rows at present) and statistics are up to date on the table. Any idea why such different execution plans and execution times would be occuring? And ideally how to change things so that I don't need to use the temp table to get decent performance? The only real difference in the execution plans is that the temp table version introduces an index spool (eager spool) operation.
