  • How to skip certain tests with Test::Unit

    - by Daniel Abrahamsson
In one of my projects I need to collaborate with several backend systems. Some of them somewhat lacks in documentation, and partly therefore I have some test code that interact with some test servers just to see everything works as expected. However, accessing these servers is quite slow, and therefore I do not want to run these tests every time I run my test suite. My question is how to deal with a situation where you want to skip certain tests. Currently I use an environment variable 'BACKEND_TEST' and a conditional statement which checks if the variable is set for each test I would like to skip. But sometimes I would like to skip all tests in a test file without having to add an extra row to the beginning of each test. The tests which have to interact with the test servers are not many, as I use flexmock in other situations. However, you can't mock yourself away from reality. As you can see from this question's title, I'm using Test::Unit. Additionally, if it makes any difference, the project is a Rails project.

  • Line by Line explanation of "Javascript: Good Parts" example?

    - by Matrym
I'm reading "Javascript: The Good Parts" and am totally baffled by what's really going on here. A more detailed and/or simplified explanation would be greatly appreciated. // BAD EXAMPLE // Make a function that assigns event handler functions to an array of nodes the wrong way. // When you click on a node, an alert box is supposed to display the ordinal of the node. // But it always displays the number of nodes instead. var add_the_handlers = function (nodes) { var i; for (i = 0; i < nodes.length; i += 1) { nodes[i].onclick = function (e) { alert(i); } } }; // END BAD EXAMPLE The add_the_handlers function was intended to give each handler a unique number (i). It fails because the handler functions are bound to the variable i, not the value of the variable i at the time the function was made: // BETTER EXAMPLE // Make a function that assigns event handler functions to an array of nodes the right way. // When you click on a node, an alert box will display the ordinal of the node. var add_the_handlers = function (nodes) { var i; for (i = 0; i < nodes.length; i += 1) { nodes[i].onclick = function (i) { return function (e) { alert(i); }; }(i); } }; Now, instead of assigning a function to onclick, we define a function and immediately invoke it, passing in i. That function will return an event handler function that is bound to the value of i that was passed in, not to the i defined in add_the_handlers. That returned function is assigned to onclick.

  • Working with Java using methods and arrays [closed]

    - by jordan
    Hi i'm a newb at java and for one of my labs I have to create a instant messenger client with these requirements: add buddyList instance variable add IMClient constructor to create ArrayList addBuddy method removeBuddy method findBuddy method printBuddyList method what's the best way to go about this? so far I have this: public class IMClient { private String userId; // User id private String password; // Password private int status; // Status code for user: 1 - Online, 2 - Off-line, 3 - Away public IMClient(String userId, String password, int status) { super(); this.userId = userId; this.password = password; this.status = status; } // Returns true if password as a parameter matches password instance variable. public boolean checkPassword(String password) { return this.password.equals(password); } public String toString() { StringBuffer buf = new StringBuffer(100); buf.append(" User id: "); buf.append(userId); buf.append(" Password: "); buf.append(password); buf.append(" Status: "); buf.append(status); return buf.toString(); } public String getUserId() { return userId; } public void setUserId(String userId) { this.userId = userId; } public String getPassword() { return password; } public void setPassword(String password) { this.password = password; } public int getStatus() { return status; } public void setStatus(int status) { this.status = status; } public static void main(String[] args) { } }

  • how can i make sure to get the server response correctly when i invoke the server with QNetworkReque

    - by noname
I wrote the server site call in Qt, but i haven't get the server response for every server invoking. I have to use the server reply to continue the program flow. The request is correctly reached to server and server do reply. The server is also on my machine. Here is the code how i make the server site call; QNetworkAccessManager nam1 = new QNetworkAccessManager(this); qnetmg=nam1; QObject::connect(nam1, SIGNAL(finished(QNetworkReply*)),this,SLOT(finishedGettingMarker(QNetworkReply*))); QString strurl="http://localhost:8080/ServerWeb"; QUrl url(strurl); QNetworkRequest preq(url); QNetworkReply* reply = nam1->get(preq); qreply=reply; Inside finisedGettingMarker slot, i have already eliminate for QNetworkReply-error case and i used one global variable for QNetworkAccessManager;"qnetmg" and one global variable for QNetworkReply;"qreply". And also i make qnetmg.disconnect(this,0); and qreply.abort(); inside that slot method. But the problem is i haven't got the response for every server invoking time. If anyone who know the way to solve it , please reply me. This situation happened only in Opera. Thanks in advance.

  • How to throw meaningful data in exceptions ?

    - by ZeroCool
I would like to throw exceptions with meaningful explanation ! I thought of using variable arguments worked fine but lately I figured out it's impossible to extend the class in order to implement other exception types. So I figured out using an std::ostreamstring as a an internal buffer to deal with formatting ... but doesn't compile! I guess it has something to deal with copy constructors. Anyhow here is my piece of code: class Exception: public std::exception { public: Exception(const char *fmt, ...); Exception(const char *fname, const char *funcname, int line, const char *fmt, ...); //std::ostringstream &Get() { return os_ ; } ~Exception() throw(); virtual const char *what() const throw(); protected: char err_msg_[ERRBUFSIZ]; //std::ostringstream os_; }; The variable argumens constructor can't be inherited from! this is why I thought of std::ostringstream! Any advice on how to implement such approach ?

  • Android: How to declare global variables?

    - by niko
Hi, I am creating an application which requires login. I created the main and the login activity. In the main activity onCreate method I added the following condition: public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); ... loadSettings(); if(strSessionString == null) { login(); } ... } The onActivityResult method which is executed when the login form terminates looks like this: @Override public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data); switch(requestCode) { case(SHOW_SUBACTICITY_LOGIN): { if(resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) { strSessionString = data.getStringExtra(Login.SESSIONSTRING); connectionAvailable = true; strUsername = data.getStringExtra(Login.USERNAME); } } } The problem is the login form sometimes appears twice (the login() method is called twice) and also when the phone keyboard slides the login form appears again and I guess the problem is the variable strSessionString. Does anyone know how to set the variable global in order to avoid login form appearing after the user already successfully authenticates? Thanks!

  • Efficient way to get highly correlated pairs from large data set in Python or R

    - by Akavall
I have a large data set (Let's say 10,000 variables with about 1000 elements each), we can think of it as 2D list, something like: [[variable_1], [variable_2], ............ [variable_n] ] I want to extract highly correlated variable pairs from that data. I want "highly correlated" to be a parameter that I can choose. I don't need all pairs to be extracted, and I don't necessarily want the most correlated pairs. As long as there is an efficient method that gets me highly correlated pairs I am happy. Also, it would be nice if a variable does not show up in more than one pair. Although this might not be crucial. Of course, there is a brute force way to finding such pairs, but it is too slow for me. I've googled around for a bit and found some theoretical work on this issue, but I wasn't able for find a package that could do what I am looking for. I mostly work in python, so a package in python would be most helpful, but if there exists a package in R that does what I am looking for it will be great. Does anyone know of a package that does the above in Python or R? Or any other ideas? Thank You in Advance

  • xslt check for alpha numeric character

    - by Newcoma
    I want to check if a string contains only alphanumeric characters OR '.' This is my code. But it only works if $value matches $allowed-characters exactly. I use xslt 1.0. <xsl:template name="GetLastSegment"> <xsl:param name="value" /> <xsl:param name="separator" select="'.'" /> <xsl:variable name="allowed-characters">ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.</xsl:variable> <xsl:choose> <xsl:when test="contains($value, $allowed-characters)"> <xsl:call-template name="GetLastSegment"> <xsl:with-param name="value" select="substring-after($value, $separator)" /> <xsl:with-param name="separator" select="$separator" /> </xsl:call-template> </xsl:when> <xsl:otherwise> <xsl:value-of select="$value" /> </xsl:otherwise> </xsl:choose> </xsl:template>

  • How can I change the default startup directory for cmd.exe?

    - by Nano HE
Hi. My Procedure last day as below Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe Navigate to the following branch: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Command Processor In the right-pane, double-click Autorun and set the startup folder path as its data, preceded by “CD /d “. If Autorun value is missing, you need to create one, of type REG_EXPAND_SZ or REG_SZ in the above location. Example: To set the startup directory to D:\learning\perl, set the Autorun value data to CD /d D:\learning\perl Then I clicked Start, run and type cmd. It successfully. I could do perl practice more conveniently now. But today, I find when I try to build my Visual Studio 2005 solution which included some Pre-build event Command like this: perl.exe MyAppVersion.pl perl.exe AttrScan.pl It doesn't work. Show error: can't find the path. I check the environment variable setting and find the variable-path and it's value-c:\perl\bin\; still exist. Finially, I try to removed the Regedit.exe configuration "Autorun" value and test again. The issue fixed. I only changed the default startup directory for cmd.exe command. Why the pre-build event perl command was impacted? (I am using winxp and activePerl 5.8)

  • Elements of a Java Object Array are created but without correct names

    - by Greenhouse Gases
    Hi all Im having rather an annoying problem. I have a class called Person and a class called Event which serve to create objects to be used for competitors that compete in a certain event. When I add a competitor thats fine and the GUI list updates accordingly, however when I add an event the element in the array does not take on the value of the instance variable name in the class Event and so the GUI does not show the event name, though it is being added in the array correctly. How can I make it so that the event object in each element of the listOfEvents array (which is an array of event objects) has the name of the event. I should add this is for university though this isnt the part for which we will be assessed, it is somethign i have come across and due to not being able to see the code for the GUI, I've hit the proverbial brick wall. I wont include the whole load of code Ive been writing but hopefully my description and snippets below will suffice. Any advice I would appreciate greatly. No doubt I have overlooked something simple! Many thanks. listOfEvents is declared as: Event[] listOfEvents = new Event[20]; A snippet from the Event class: public class Event { String name; Person[] participants = new Person[10]; // array of competitors for the event public Event(String name) { this.name = name; } } and its use in the addEvent method (p is a global variable): public void addEvent(String eventName) { listOfEvents[p] = new Event(eventName); p++; }

  • How can multiple variables be passed to a function cleanly in C?

    - by aquanar
I am working on an embedded system that has different output capabilities (digital out, serial, analog, etc). I am trying to figure out a clean way to pass many of the variables that will control those functions. I don't need to pass ALL of them too often, but I was hoping to have a function that would read the input data (in this case from a TCP network), and then parse the data (IE, the 3rd byte contains the states of 8 of the digital outputs (according to which bit in that byte is high or low)), and put that into a variable where I can then use elsewhere in the program. I wanted that function to be separate from the main() function, but to do so would require passing pointers to some 20 or so variables that it would be writing to. I know I could make the variables global, but I am trying to make it easier to debug by making it obvious when a function is allowed to edit that variable, by passing it to the function. My best idea was a struct, and just pass a pointer to it, but wasn't sure if there was a more efficient way, especially since there is only really 1 function that would need to access all of them at once, while most others only require parts of the information that will be stored in this bunch of state variables. So anyway, is there a clean way to send many variables between functions at once that need to be edited?

  • Code casing question for private class fields

    - by user200295
Take the following example public class Class1{ public string Prop1{ get {return m_Prop1;} set {m_Prop1 = value; } } private string m_Prop1; // this is standard private property variable name // how do we cap this variable name? While the compiler can figure out same casing // it makes it hard to read private Class2 Class2; // we camel case the parameter public Class1(Class2 class2){ this.Class2 = class2; } } Here are my stock rules The class name is capitalized (Class1) The public properties are capitalized (Prop1) The private field tied to a public property has m_ to indicate this. My coworker prefers _ There is some debate if using m_ or _ should be used at all, as it is like Hungarian notation. Private class fields are capitalized. The part I am trying to figure out is what do I do if when the Class name of a private field matches the private field name. For example, private Class2 Class2; This is confusing. If the private field name is not the same class, for example private string Name; , there isn't much issue. Or am I thinking about the issue wrong. Should my classes and private fields be named in such a way that they don't collide?

  • "for" loop from program 7.6 from Kochan's "Programming in Objective-C"

    - by Mr_Vlasov
"The sigma notation is shorthand for a summation. Its use here means to add the values of 1/2^i, where i varies from 1 to n. That is, add 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 .... If you make the value of n large enough, the sum of this series should approach 1. Let’s experiment with different values for n to see how close we get." #import "Fraction.h" int main (int argc, char *argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; Fraction *aFraction = [[Fraction alloc] init]; Fraction *sum = [[Fraction alloc] init], *sum2; int i, n, pow2; [sum setTo: 0 over: 1]; // set 1st fraction to 0 NSLog (@"Enter your value for n:"); scanf ("%i", &n); pow2 = 2; for (i = 1; i <= n; ++i) { [aFraction setTo: 1 over: pow2]; sum2 = [sum add: aFraction]; [sum release]; // release previous sum sum = sum2; pow2 *= 2; } NSLog (@"After %i iterations, the sum is %g", n, [sum convertToNum]); [aFraction release]; [sum release]; [pool drain]; return 0; } Question: Why do we have to create additional variable sum2 that we are using in the "for" loop? Why do we need "release previous sum" here and then again give it a value that we just released? : sum2 = [sum add: aFraction]; [sum release]; // release previous sum sum = sum2; Is it just for the sake of avoiding memory leakage? (method "add" initializes a variable that is stored in sum2)

  • Using placeholders/variables in a sed command

    - by jesse_galley
I want to store a specific part of a matched result as a variable to be used for replacement later. I would like to keep this in a one liner instead of finding the variable I need before hand. when configuring apache, and use mod_rewrite, you can specificy specific parts of patterns to be used as variables, like this: RewriteRule ^www.example.com/page/(.*)$ http://www.example.com/page.php?page=$1 [R=301,L] the part of the pattern match that's contained inside the parenthesis is stored as $1 for use later. So if the url was www.example.com/page/home, it would be replaced with www.example.com/page.php?page=home. So the "home" part of the match was saved in $1 because it was the part of the pattern inside the parenthesis. I want something like this functionality with a sed command, I need to automatically replace many strings in a SQL dump file, to add drop table if exist commands before each create table, but I need to know the table name to do this, so if the dump file contains something like: ... CREATE TABLE `orders` ... I need to run something like: cat dump.sql | sed "s/CREATE TABLE `(.*)`/DROP TABLE IF EXISTS $1\N CREATE TABLE `$1`/g" to get the result of: ... DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `orders` CREATE TABLE `orders` ... I'm using the mod_rewrite syntax in the sed command as a logical example of what I'm trying to do. Any suggestions?

  • Data conversion from accelerometer

    - by mrigendra
Hi all I am working on an accelerometer bma220 , and its datasheet says that data is in 2's complement form.So what i had to do was getting that 8 bit data in any 8 bit signed char and done. the bma220 have an 8 bit register of which first 6 bits are data and last two are zero. void properdata(int16_t *msgData) { printf("\nin proper data\n"); int16_t temp, i; for(i=0; i<3; i++) { temp = *(msgData + i); printf("temp = %d sense = %d\n", temp, sense); temp = temp >> 2; // only 6 bits data temp = temp / sense; //decimal value * .0625 = value in g printf("temp = %d\n", temp); } } in this program i am taking data in a unsigned variable msgdata and doing all the calculations on a signed variable. I just need to know if this is the correct way to convert data?

  • Adding International support in Erlang Web 1.4

    - by Roberto Aloi
I'm trying to add international support for a website based on the Erlang Web 1.4. I would like to have a couple of links on every page (the notorious Country flags) that allow the user to set his language session variable. What I have right now is a link like: <li><a href="/session/language/en">English</a></li> Where, in the session controller I do: language(Args) -> LanguageId = proplists:get_value(id, Args), case language_is_supported(LanguageId) of false -> ok; true -> wpart:fset("session:lang", LanguageId) end, {redirect, "/"}. The problem is that, after setting the preferred language, I would like the user to be redirected to the page he was visiting before changing the language. In this case the "__path" variable doesn't help because it contains the language request and not the "previous" one. How could I resolve this situation? I'm probably using the wrong approach but I cannot thing to anything else right now.

  • Prolog Beginner: How to unify with arithmentic cmparison operators or how to get a set var to range

    - by sixtyfootersdude
I am new to prolog. I need to write an integer adder that will add numbers between 0-9 to other numbers 0-9 and produce a solution 0-18. This is what I want to do: add(in1, in2, out) :- in1 < 10, in2 < 10, out < 18. I would like to be able to call it like this: To Check if it is a valid addition: ?- add(1,2,3). true ?- add(1,2,4). false With one missing variable: ?- add(X,2,3). 1 ?- add(1,4,X). 5 With multiple missing variables: ?-add(X,Y,Z). % Some output that would make sense. Some examples could be: X=1, Y=1, Z=2 ; X=2, Y=1, Z=3 ...... I realize that this is probably a pretty simplistic question and it is probably very straightforward. However cording to the prolog tutorial I am using: "Unlike unification Arithmetic Comparison Operators operators cannot be used to give values to a variable. The can only be evaluated when every term on each side have been instantiated."

  • Else statement crashes when i enter a letter for a cin << int value

    - by TimothyTech
    Alright, i have a question, i veered away from using strings for selection so now i use an integer.when the user enters a number then the game progresses. if they enter a wrong character it SHOULD give the else statement, however if i enter a letter or character the system goes into an endless loop effect then crashes. is there a way to give the else statement even if the user defies the variable's type. // action variable; int c_action: if (c_action == 1){ // enemy attack and user attack with added effect buffer. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////// u_attack = userAttack(userAtk, weapons); enemyHP = enemyHP - u_attack; cout << " charging at the enemy you do " << u_attack << "damage" << endl; e_attack = enemyAttack(enemyAtk); userHP = userHP - e_attack; cout << "however he lashes back causing you to have " << userHP << "health left " << endl << endl << endl << endl; //end of ATTACK ACTION }else{ cout << "invalid actions" << endl; goto ACTIONS; }

  • how are association, aggregation and composition written?

    - by ajsie
i have read some posts about the differences between these 3 relationships and i think i get the point. i just wonder, are all these written the same when coding? question 1: all 3 are just a value of the object type in a instance variable? class A { public $b = '' public function __construct($object) { $this->b = $object // <-- could be a association, aggregation or a composition relation? } } question 2: does it have to be an instance variable or can it be a static one? class A { public static $b = '' // <-- nothing changed? public function __construct($object) { $this->b = $object } } question 3: is there a difference in where the object is created? i tend to think that composition object is created inside the object: class A { public $b = '' public function __construct() { $this->b = new Object // is created inside the object } } and aggregation/association is passed through a constructor or another method: class A { public $b = '' public function __construct($object) { // passed through a method $this->b = $object } } question 4: why/when is this important to know. do i have to comment an object inside another what relation its about or do you do it in an UML diagram? could someone shed a light on these questions. thanks!

  • Android Notepadv1 Tutorial - Persistent mNoteNumber?

    - by Chris L.
So I did the Notepadv1 tutorial. It worked great. No problems. I would however like some explanation on why the mNoteNumber remembers the last number of the item I created. So the class starts as follows: public class Notepadv1 extends ListActivity { private int mNoteNumber = 1; That's fine, I understand that. The only other time the mNoteNumber variable is used is when you add an item it creates a note with that number and then increments it to the next number as follows: private void createNote() { String noteName = "Note " + mNoteNumber++; Those are the only two references to the variable mNoteNumber. When I press the Home button and then reopen the app, I add a new note but instead of adding a second "Note 1" it remembers that the last note I added as "Note 3" so it makes "Note 4". So I don't get it. Does Java/Android remember the last state of variables? If anyone could give me some explanation that would be great THANKS!

  • What is common between environments within a shell terminal session?

    - by Matt1776
I have a custom shell script that runs each time a user logs in or identity is assumed, its been placed in /etc/profile.d and performs some basic env variable operations. Recently I added some code so that if screen is running it will reattach it without needing me to type anything. There are some problems however. If I log-in as root, and su - to another user, the code runs a second time. Is there a variable I can set when the code runs the first time that will prevent a second run of the code? I thought to write something to the disk but then I dont want to prevent the code from running if I begin a new terminal session. Here is the code in question. It first attempts to reattach - if unsuccessful because its already attached (as it might be on an interruped session) it will 'take' the session back. screen -r if [ -z "$STY" ]; then exec screen -dR fi Ultimately this bug prevents me from substituting user to another user because as soon as I do so, it grabs the screen session and puts me right back where I started. Pretty frustrating

  • Exclude notes based on attribute wildcard in XSL node selection

    - by C A
Using cruisecontrol for continuous integration, I have some annoyances with Weblogic Ant tasks and how they think that server debug information are warnings rather than debug, so are shown in my build report emails. The XML output from cruise is similar to: <cruisecontrol> <build> <target name="compile-xxx"> <task name="xxx" /> </target> <target name="xxx.weblogic"> <task name="wldeploy"> <message priority="warn">Message which isn't really a warning"</message> </task> </target> </build> </cruisecontrol> In the cruisecontrol XSL template the current selection for the task list is: <xsl:variable name="tasklist" select="/cruisecontrol/build//target/task"/> What I would like is something which selects the tasklist in the same way, but doesn't include any target nodes which have the attribute name="*weblogic" where * is a wildcard. I have tried <xsl:variable name="tasklist" select="/cruisecontrol/build//target[@name!='*weblogic']/task"/> but this doesn't seem to have worked. I'm not an expert with XSLT, and just want to get this fixed so I can carry on the real development of the project. Any help is much appreciated.

I've written a macro to help me until the point where its impossible to even see the target more than a mere flicker, (maybe even less than that, i cant see it with my eyes). But its possible because i believe others have done so. (Maybe on slower comps?) Anyway the question is, how would it be possible to slow down the flash game? I've thought of a couple of ways that could work but i'm not sure how to implement them. 1. Slow down the cpu speed? (smth like that? how?) 2. As the game progress the time the targets appear and stay up is reduced. Maybe theres a variable controlling all of this, isit possible to modify the address of this variable? freeze it or smth? Any ideas, suggestions and especially advice would really be appreciated, thanks!
