  • Why does my monitor have a black screen but the power light is blinking green?

    I have a ViewSonic VA912b 19" display I use as a secondary monitor. When I turn it on, the power light is green for a few seconds, and then switches to blinking green. The display stays black. Windows thinks the monitor is on, as it shows up in the control panel as a second monitor. If I unplug the DVI cable, it displays a "No Signal" message and the power light goes to amber, which means it went to sleep.

    I've just made the switch to Ubuntu on my main PC and I've been looking for a media player that can: Play all the usual video formats Rate (and ideally, tag) each file Display thumbnails for each file Other than that there isn't much I'm after. Banshee comes close, but doesn't display thumbnails. I've Google'd lots but I'm running out of search terms to try. Does anyone have any suggestions? Cheers!

  • How can I configure GIMP 2.8 to be a single window in XMonad?

    I'm trying to get GIMP to display as a single window in XMonad. Currently, it's floating strangely in front of every other display and I can't use it. I have tried reading this: http://www.haskell.org/haskellwiki/Xmonad/General_xmonad.hs_config_tips#Gimp But it seems this is for versions of GIMP before 2.8 when there wasn't the option to have GIMP use only 1 window. Because of this, it's an XMonad problem, not a GIMP one. How can I do this?

  • Windows 7 Start Menu: Height does not adapt

    Since a couple of days my start menu has a big blank space and just does not collapse. I played around with Store and display recently opened programs in the Start menu as well as Number of recent programs to display as is depicted at sevenforums.com. Note that doing so clears your list of recently opened programs. Anyway, my start menu still looks like: At least the space marked with a red rectangle should collapse.

    Hey I been bugging with this problem for some hours now. And I couldn't find the answer on google so I try it here. The problem is that when I run emacs in cygwin in -nw mode characters like åäö doesn't come out normally. However it is perfectly normal when I type those character in mintty terminal. The answer that I found on google is that I should type M-x standard-display-european however emacs doesn't have that option. It only found standard-display-cyrillic-translit

  • Formula to search for a value in a range of cells

    I have a spreadsheet with several cells in one column. Each cell has identical conditional formatting: In 1 cell value equal to ='Y' In 2 cell value equal to ='N' In 3 cell value equal to ='?' What I would like to achieve is, if all 7 cells contain "Y" as the option then a separate cell will display "Yes", but if any of the cells contain "N" as the selection then the separate cell will display "NO". How can I achieve this?

  • View numeric columns in hex - SQL Server Management Studio

    In SQL Server Management Studio, when I run a query which outputs a numeric column (int or similar types), they are displayed in decimal (example: 193). I want them to display in hex (example: 0xC1). How do I do that? I found many answers on how to write converter functions, but I don't want that - only change the display in SSMS. I only found this unanswered question. I use SQL2010, though may move to SQL2012 soon.

    By default (at least in my installation), pinned items on the taskbar will be "icon only" when they have no active windows, but when there are active window, the icon expanded to include text (typically some portion of the title text). I'm looking for a way to either: A (preferred option): For any single pinned item, force this pinned item to always display as just the icon even if it has active windows. OR B (acceptable option): Force ALL pinned items to always display as icon only in the taskbar

  • Mulit-tenant ASP.NET MVC – Controllers

    Part I – Introduction Part II – Foundation   The time has come to talk about controllers in a multi-tenant ASP.NET MVC architecture. This is actually the most critical design decision you will make when dealing with multi-tenancy with MVC. In my design, I took into account the design goals I mentioned in the introduction about inversion of control and what a tenant is to my design. Be aware that this is only one way to achieve multi-tenant controllers.   The Premise MvcEx (which is a sample written by Rob Ashton) utilizes dynamic controllers. Essentially a controller is “dynamic” in that multiple action results can be placed in different “controllers” with the same name. This approach is a bit too complicated for my design. I wanted to stick with plain old inheritance when dealing with controllers. The basic premise of my controller design is that my main host defines a set of universal controllers. It is the responsibility of the tenant to decide if the tenant would like to utilize these core controllers. This can be done either by straight usage of the controller or inheritance for extension of the functionality defined by the controller. The controller is resolved by a StructureMap container that is attached to the tenant, as discussed in Part II.   Controller Resolution I have been thinking about two different ways to resolve controllers with StructureMap. One way is to use named instances. This is a really easy way to simply pull the controller right out of the container without a lot of fuss. I ultimately chose not to use this approach. The reason for this decision is to ensure that the controllers are named properly. If a controller has a different named instance that the controller type, then the resolution has a significant disconnect and there are no guarantees. The final approach, the one utilized by the sample, is to simply pull all controller types and correlate the type with a controller name. This has a bit of a application start performance disadvantage, but is significantly more approachable for maintainability. For example, if I wanted to go back and add a “ControllerName” attribute, I would just have to change the ControllerFactory to suit my needs.   The Code The container factory that I have built is actually pretty simple. That’s really all we need. The most significant method is the GetControllersFor method. This method makes the model from the Container and determines all the concrete types for IController.  The thing you might notice is that this doesn’t depend on tenants, but rather containers. This is something that I don’t use and have no desire to implement and test. The reason I am not using namespaces in this situation is because each tenant has its own namespaces and the routing would not make sense in this case.   Because we are using IoC, dependencies are automatically injected into the constructor. For example, a tenant container could implement it’s own IRepository and a controller could be defined in the “main” project. The IRepository from the tenant would be injected into the main project’s controller. This is quite a useful feature.   Again, the source code is on GitHub here.   Up Next Up next is the view resolution. This is a complicated issue, so be prepared.   • RDLC filtering nested tables

    I am creating an RDLC report where the dataset consists of several datatables. There is one parent table and several child tables. What I would like to do is display relevant data from each child table for each row in the parent table. Here is a simplified example: table1 = "Purchase" has columns PurhcaseID, PurchaseNumber, PurchaseDate table2 = "PurchasedItem" has columns PurchaseItemID, PurhcaseID, ItemDescription In my RDLC, I have a Purchase table grouped on PurchaseDate and would like to display the PurchasedItems for each Purchase. The current solution uses a subreport, but I do not like this because it leaves an ugly empty space when there is no data for the subreport display. (I would be fine with using a subreport if I could properly hide it without leaving an empty space.) I am not able to rewrite the stored procedure to return a single table, either. How are others dealing with this scenario?

Initially I was using this in a console application and it was pretty easy to get the logging output to display on the console using a console handler. Now I've developed a GUI version of my app using wxPython and I'd like to display all the logging output to a custom control — a multi-line textCtrl. Is there a way i could create a custom logging handler so i can redirect all the logging output there and display the logging messages wherever/however I want — in this case, a wxPython app. Thanks
