  • Need to place a floating modeless form over excel main window (quasi-task pane)

    Hi I need to emulate a task pane by floating a modeless form over the Excel main window. The reason for this requirement is that I need to have taskpane features for my Excel 2003 add-in, but cannot use the document-centric model. Can anyone suggest what would be the best way to do this? The modeless form would need to detect the main window resize event and resize itself accordingly, and also need to always position itself at the bottom of the window (kind of like a docking pane).

  • OpenGL ES functions not accepting values originating outside of it's view

    I've been unable to figure this out on my own. I currently have an Open GLES setup where a view controller both updates a game world (with a dt), fetches the data I need to render, passes it off to an EAGLView through two structures (built of Apple's ES1Renderer), and draws the scene. Whenever a value originates outside of the Open GL view, it can't be used to either translate objects using glTranslatef, or set up the scene using glOrthof. If I assign a new value to something, it will work - even if it is the exact same number. The two structures I have each contain a variety of floating-point numbers and booleans, along with two arrays. I can log the values from within my renderer - they make it there - but I receive errors from OpenGL if I try to do anything with them. No crashes result, but the glOrthof call doesn't work if I don't set the camera values to anything different. Code used to set up scene: [EAGLContext setCurrentContext:context]; glBindFramebufferOES(GL_FRAMEBUFFER_OES, viewFramebuffer); //clears the color buffer bit glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT); glMatrixMode(GL_PROJECTION); //sets up the scene w/ ortho projection glViewport(0, 0, 320, 480); glLoadIdentity(); glOrthof(320, 0, dynamicData.cam_x2, dynamicData.cam_x1, 1.0, -1.0); glClearColor(1.0, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0); /*error checking code here*/ "dynamicData" (which is replaced every frame) is created within my game simulation. From within my controller, I call a method (w/in my simulation) that returns it, and pass the result on to the EAGLView, which passes it on to the renderer. I haven't been able to come up with a better solution for this - suggestions in this regard would be greatly appreciated as well.   • CSS Collapsing/Hiding divs with no data in <span>

    I am trying to display an address which includes the following information: Title, division, address1, address2, town/state/zip, and country (5 seperate lines worth of data). The problem is sometimes the company may only have the title, address1, and town/state/zip yet other times it may be all but address2. This is determined upon a db record request server side. Therefore how can I make my output look proper when some of my labels will be blank? I would like div's that contain an empty span to be essentially collapsed/removed. My only idea of how was to use jquery and a selector to find all divs with blank spans (since thats all an asp.net label really is) and then remove those divs however this seems like such bad form. Is there any way to do this with css?     I'm looking to check whether any of a list of integers fall in a list of ranges. The ranges are defined in a table defined something like: # Extra Type Field Default Null Key 0 int(11) rangeid 0 NO PRI 1 int(11) max 0 NO MUL 2 int(11) min 0 NO MUL Using MySQL 5.1 and Perl 5.10. I can check whether a single value, say 7, is in any of the ranges with a statement like SELECT 1 FROM range WHERE 7 BETWEEN min AND max If 7 is in any of those ranges, I get a single row back. If it isn't, no rows are returned. Now I have a list of, say, 50 of these values, not stored in a table at present. I assemble them using map: my $value_list = '(' . ( join ', ', map { int $_ } @values ) . ')' ; I want to see if any of the items in the list fall inside of any of the ranges, but am not particularly concerned with which number nor which range. I'd like to use a syntax such as: SELECT 1 FROM range WHERE (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 42, 309, 10000) BETWEEN min AND max MySQL kindly chastises me for such syntax: Operand should contain 1 column(s) I pinged #mysql who were quite helpful. However, having already written this up by the time they responded and thinking it'd be helpful to fix the answer in a more permanent medium, I figured I'd post the question anyhow. Maybe SO will provide a different solution?

  • Why are symbols not frozen strings?

    I understand the theoretical difference between Strings and Symbols. I understand that Symbols are meant to represent a concept or a name or an identifier or a label or a key, and Strings are a bag of characters. I understand that Strings are mutable and transient, where Symbols are immutable and permanent. I even like how Symbols look different from Strings in my text editor. What bothers me is that practically speaking, Symbols are so similar to Strings that the fact that they're not implemented as Strings causes a lot of headaches. They don't even support duck-typing or implicit coercion, unlike the other famous "the same but different" couple, Float and Fixnum. The mere existence of HashWithIndifferentAccess, and its rampant use in Rails and other frameworks, demonstrates that there's a problem here, an itch that needs to be scratched. Can anyone tell me a practical reason why Symbols should not be frozen Strings? Other than "because that's how it's always been done" (historical) or "because symbols are not strings" (begging the question). Has anyone had any experience in this position of renumbering node ids starting from #1? Maybe using direct queries on the database, or a module that traverses and renumbers all the nodes?   • Working with friends. Poor career choice?

    Hi all, Hope you can help me solve somewhat of a moral dilemma. Some time ago, after just a few years of living in U.S. and having to take any job I could get my hands on a friend of mine submitted recommended me for an open position at the company that he was working for. I could have not been happier. I do not have a degree of any sort, however, by being passionate about CS and with constant drive for self education I've became a somewhat of a strong generalist. Every place I worked for recognized me for that quality and used me on various projects where set of technology in hand had no overlap with set of knowledge of the team members. Rapidly I've advanced to Sr. Programmer position and the trend of me following a friend from one place to another have started and continued on for a few years. My friend's goal always been to become an IT Director, mine is to become the best programmer I can be. To my knowledge I've accommodated his goals as much as I could by taking a back seat, and letting him take the lead. Fast forward to today. He's a manager, and I am on his team. I am unhappy and I in considerable amount of suffering. I am not being utilized to my potential, it's almost exact opposite, I am being micromanaged to an unhealthy extent, my decisions, and suggestions are constantly met with negative connotation. Last week I had to hear about how my friend is a better programmer than I am. My ego was ecstatic about this one /s. In addition to that working in the field of BI have exhausted itself for most parts. The only pleasure of my work is being derived from making everything as dynamic and parameter driven as possible. This is the only area where a friend of mine does not feel competent enough to actually micromanage. Because of my situation I feel a fair amount of guilt and ever growing resentment. I need your advice, maybe you've dealt with this expression of ego before, needs of self vs the needs of your friend. Is working with a friend a poor choice? Thank you for reading in.

    Hello, I have a transparent table with width:100% which contains some html content. I use the table in order to position a content element on the screen center. The table captures mouse events, and the user can't press on links which are positioned beneath it (although it is transparent). Is there a way to tell the browser to ignore events on the table?     Hi, I tried to subscribe to the m2eclipse mailing list by sending an email to [email protected] but it never sent me back any confirmation email. I sent an email to [email protected] asking if the mailing list was still running a couple of weeks ago and haven't received any response back to that either. Then I found another way to subscribe via http://xircles.codehaus.org/lists/info/search. So I did and am now receiving emails sent to the list. However, I can't send the list emails.
