• custom adm file for IE search providers on Windows 2003

  Hi, I have been stumped by this issue for some time, I created a custom ADM template for a customer to populate the search providers in Internet Explorer 7 and 8. The custom ADM works fine and I have set 3 search providers, the problem is that I cannot change them (the customer wants to change the entry for wikipedia from EN to NL), I edited the ADM file but the clients seem to keep on using the old settings. Removing/replacing the adm file has no effect either, the settings remain. I used the following article as a base: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918238 For IE8 you need to work with a name instead of a UID for the default entry, that works as expected. but there seems to be no way to change the setting once in place.

• VMware ESXi 4 On-Disk Data Deduplication - possible and supported?

  Environment: We are running multiple web, database, and application servers which usually share a pretty common installation (gentoo linux) and similar configuration in VMware ESXi 4. The differences are usually only some installed features or differing component versions. To create a new server, I usually choose the most similar (by features) running server, rsync a copy of it into freshly mounted filesystems, run grub, reconfigure and reboot. Problem: Over time this duplicates many on-disk data blocks which probably sums up to several 10's of gigabytes. I suppose if I could use a base system as template with the actual machines based on top of that, only writing changed blocks to some sort of "diff image", performance should improve (increased cache hit rate) and storage efficiency should increase (deduplicated storage space). This would be similar to what ESXi already supports for RAM deduplication (page sharing). Question: Is there any way to easily do this on ESXi 4? I already share the portage tree via NFS but this would not work for the rootfs.

• BugZilla XML RPC Interface

  I am attempting to setup BugZilla to receive but reports from another system using the XML-RPC interface. BugZilla works fine on its own with its own interface. When I attempt to test the XML-RPC functionality by accessing "xmlrpc.cgi" in my browser I get the error: The XML-RPC Interface feature is not available in this Bugzilla at C:\BugZilla\xmlrpc.cgi line 27 main::BEGIN(...) called at C:\BugZilla\xmlrpc.cgi line 29 eval {...} called at C:\BugZilla\xmlrpc.cgi line 29 Following this I install test-taint package from the default perl repository, this installs version 1.04. Re-running "xmlrpc.cgi" gives me an IIS error: 502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server. There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server. So I run the checksetup.pl which inform me that: Use of uninitialized value in open at C:/Perl/site/lib/Test/Taint.pm line 334, <DATA> line 558. Installing Test-Taint from CPAN is the same. I assume XML-RPC is relent on Test-Taint, but Test-Taint doesn't seem to run correctly. If I ignore this error and attempt to invoke "bz_webservice_demo.pl" to add an entry the script times out. How can I get the XML-RPC / Test-Taint function working ? • Auto Log-Off Windows users - Windows 2003 domain

  I am trying to make windows clients automatically log off after some time, I have been trying to use the winexit.scr which I have seen working else where in a similar environment. After working though these instructions (I did read the comments and notice the original ADM provided is buggy) I've had no joy what so ever! Winexit.scr refuses to read any settings in the registry, even while using a test account I can access the required reg key(s); edit, add, and remove values. Essentially winexit.scr always uses it's default values: 30 second timeout, no forced log-out. What I really want is a 30 minute timeout with a forced log-out, closing all the users apps etc. I've tried removing and re-adding the ADM template, creating the GPO from scratch several times, giving various registry permissions - including full control to "Everybody" just for fun! Oh, clients are all win XP SP3, DC is win 2003 R2 SP2. So, can anybody suggest something? Cheers!

• How to stop basic Postfix after-queue script from BCC-ing sender?

  I'm building a content filter for Postfix (2.9.3 package installed via apt on an Ubuntu 12.04 test VM) and I'm starting with a very basic Ruby (1.9.3) template and building up functionality. Strangely, when the script is enabled, messages sent are being forwarded on as normal, but also sent back to the sender which is not normal. Disabling the script disables this behavior. Any suggestions about what I have to change to stop that from happening? • Outlook - responding with a pre-defined message

  I am trying to be able to reply to an email with a pre-defined message. Every day, I get asked to do the same tasks and I have to reply to each with exactly the same email, similar to: Hi, I received your email, I have now started the task for you. Regards, Dave Tutorials I have found using the email template is more about starting a new email as opposed to replying (as it doesn't appear to keep the thread). In my ideal world, I would like to click reply and insert a pre-written message. The only way I've worked out how to do this is to 'cheat' some what and use the signature as the entire email response (and actually does the job very well other than leaving a space above my reply) I have found similar questions on Super User and other websites but have had no luck, nor have I from my own Google searches. Does any one have any other solutions? Solved This is now solved - in 2 days from this post I can mark it as answer.

• XenServer/Center: Shared SRs for hosts not in same pool?

  I would like to use the same SRs on XenServer hosts that are not able to be part of the same pool (because of not having the exact same cpu feature set, if I understand it correctly) in order to share templates, being able to (manually) start a host on another node, backing up running hosts on other hardware etc etc. The technology for SR can be any of iSCSI, NFS or CIFS, iSCSI would obviously be preferred. Trying to add an iSCSI volume renders a "This LUN is already in use as SR iSCSI - Shared Storage on pool xxxxxx.". Adding a NFS share on one XS host, creating a template there and then checking another XS host reveals they don't agree on used space etc. Coming from a vSphere world this is quite baffling, but if these are limitations then I will have to rethink some of the concepts for this low budget project.

  We use several Word documents as templates and currently include 'guidance' text for the reader - in the form of grey, italic text - to provide guidance to the person completing the document. Note how the grey+italic text is used to provide both guidance and example content Problems with this approach include: People forgetting to delete all of this template/boilerplate text People using the italic+grey formatting when inputting real information because they don't change the style We've considered including Reviewing comments as an alternative but this can be a pain and suffers from the first problem above. I'm not sure a simple, elegant solution exists here but if there's something obvious I'm missing I'd love to hear about it.

• Creating Client Certificate - Windows

  I am trying to create client certifications against a microsoft CA using the built in website. (Microsoft Active directory Certificate Services) From what I can tell you have to login as the user to create the corresponding certificate. Is there anyway to get around that? I tried to create my own template duplicating the user tempalte but it doesn't match and gets rejected when trying to authenticate. Is this something I'd have to look at building? • How to create reusable fields in Word

  I would like to create reusable fields that I can type in, then reuse those fields throughout the document without having to retype them. As an example, I have a cover sheet that contains "Title", "Document ID", "Version Number", and "Published Date". I used the MACROBUTTON trick to create a field that someone can just click on and type, but I don't see how I can re-use what is typed in other parts of the document (such as putting the Document title in the header). I've found something called "fill-in" fields, which don't seem to be what i'm looking for, and "ASK" fields, but that creates a dialog that you have to enter the information into. I'm trying to create a generic template for my documentation needs. Can anyone suggest a method to do what I am looking for?

  I'm fairly new to Word 2007. (Coming more from a Linux/text editor background.) Each time I create a document within Word 2007, I add a set of details to the start of the document. It's the same set of details each time -- Author, Date Created, Date Last Modified, and Status, formatted in the same way each time. I include these bits of information either by inserting Fields (Insert -> Quick Parts -> Insert Field) or Document Properties (Insert -> Quick Parts -> Document Properties -> ...). I'm just wondering how I would go about setting up a macro or a template or something along those lines to insert this information automatically, either by a keypress in an existing document, or each time I start a new document.

  One of our web-projects was hacked. Malefactor changed some template files in project and 1 core file of the web-framework (it's one of the famous php-frameworks). We found all corrupted files by git and reverted them. So now I need to find the weak point. With high probability we can say, that it's not the ftp or ssh password abduction. The support specialist of hosting provider (after logs analysis) said that it was the security hole in our code. My questions: 1) What tools should I use, to review access and error logs of Apache? (Our server distro is Debian). 2) Can you write tips of suspicious lines detection in logs? Maybe tutorials or primers of some useful regexps or techniques? 3) How to separate "normal user behavior" from suspicious in logs. 4) Is there any way to preventing attacks in Apache?   I need to alias all mail coming from another SMTP server to this one account "myinbox". The system in question is to receive all e-mail on the domain, if that's any help. http://william.shallum.net/random-notes/sendmailredirectallmailfordevelopment is a template for the beginning of a solution, but that routes everything (including outgoing and internal mail) to that one account, and trying to understand how these R rules work is making my head spin. I think the answer is in sendmail.mc rather than any Procmail configuration. So I think what I generally don't want the filter to do is: Interfere w/any outgoing e-mail Interfere w/any internal e-mail Sometimes some cron job causes "root" to mail to "root". I don't want these to go to myinbox. Cause infinite loops Who does? Bounce messages and any DSNs come to mind. I'm running Sendmail 8.13.1 and Procmail 3.22.

• Context is Hindi when printing line numbers in Word 2007

  I'm trying to print a Word 2007 document with Line Numbering turned on, and in Word the document looks fine but when I print the document, the line numbers appear in Hindi script. I also tried using different printers. The problem goes away if I choose Arabic instead of Context under Word Options - Advanced - Show Document Content / Numeral. However, I would like to keep this setting as Context. The question is, why is the default context of my document Hindi script? Is there a way to change this context?

• Apply Group Policy to Remote Desktop Services users but not when they log on to their local system

  Running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 with Remote Desktop Services role. I want to hide the servers drives using a GPO, but not the users local drives when they are logged on to their local system. Using a GPO, I went to "User Configuration - Policies - Administrative Template - Windows Components - Windows Explorer" and enabled "Hide these specified drives in My Computer" and "Prevent access to drives from My Computer" and in both used "Restrict all drives". Then under "Security Filtering" for the GPO, I restricted it to the system running Remote Desktop Services and the specific users who will be using RDS. I then applied the GPO to our domain and it worked a little too well. Not only was I successful in getting the GPO to work for RDS users, but it also affected those same users at their local systems as well. I've tried everything I can think of, but can't figure out how to apply this just to the RDS but not at their local system. What am I missing?

• automatic reply rule within Outlook

  My plan is to add a automatic reply to all incoming emails for a exchange mailbox. I created a rule that would check all incoming and created the template reply. Created it so it would match a server rule so outlook would not have to be open. If I send an email from my work account on the same exchange server, it works and sends the reply I created. With outlook open or closed. However, when I send email from outside the company, (my personal email), it does not get a reply. What the heck is going on there? I think the issue is within the selection of who the email is too. I have tried "only to me" "where my name is in TO or CC" as well as "sent to people or distribution list". So any ideas of why this isn't working. I thought this question was a super user question as appose to server fault. Thank you,

• IIS: Content-Length 0 for CSS, Javascript and Images

  After a clean re-installation of my Windows 7 system, I can't get IIS 7 to properly deliver any static content. Dynmic content (ASPX pages and content served by ASP.NET MVC controllers) works fine, but static files such as CSS, Javascript and Images give me a 200 OK status code and a Content-Length of 0. The problem occurs with all web sites on my server, even a brandnew ASP:NET MVC template project with no changes. It also occurs with both Firefox and IE 8. What could possibly be the problem? Note that I also installed the latest Windows Azure SDK, perhaps that messed up some settings. But I don't know how to proceed with for troubleshooting this.

• Can I write an Excel macro to find product info based on a SKU?

  My coworker wants to create an invoice template in Excel 2007. In column 1, he wants to be able to put in a SKU like '000293954'[1], and when he hits tab, have the other columns fill in a matching description and price. There would be a bunch of different SKUs and information. Has anybody done this type of thing with a macro before? Any advice? (I have programming experience with Javascript, PHP, and Ruby, but have never written a macro.) [1] The input wouldn't be typed - he'd use a wedge barcode scanner that inputs just like it was typed. Not that it matters for this question.

  I have a dedicated server is installed ISPConfig 3! I make my start with this server admin panel. I created my DNS zone (marseille-autrement.net), when I make a zonecheck, I only have 2 warnings. When I go to the site, I have the default template. I created my ftp user, I uploaded the above file index.php (http://www.marseille-autrement.net/index.php) and then I get an error "not found". What is my mistake ? Before I was able to create the site marseille-autrement.com and I could place a redirection (htaccess). For the .net, any file that I put, I delete ... I can not access them. An idea?

• Domain Controller Placement

  I've been working through some Exchange training documentation (the official MS e-learning package) and all of the design scenarios allude to placing at least one DC from your forest root domain in every site. I'm not sure whether this just relates to Exchange, but I can think of a number of issues we experience in our forest that would be resolved by this. For example, a Microsoft support engineer has stated that EVERY client in a child domain (i.e. all workstations and member servers) need access to a forest root DC to check certificate/template permissions, even on a subordinate CA. I have attempted to locate documentation or guidelines from Microsoft on this, but have not been able to find anything. I found the Domain Controller Placement guide, but it's only a form - you would use it to document where you will place your DCs, but it doesn't give any guidance on where you should deploy them. Does anyone know where, or if, I can find any such documentation?
