• Outlook 2003 View Control with C#

  I want to embed a custom c# windows form (or WPF) user control into an outlook view. I am using Outlook 2003 and Visual Studio 2008. I did download an example for Outlook 2007 here: http://blogs.msdn.com/e2eblog/archive/2008/01/09/outlook-folder-homepage-hosting-wpf-activex-and-windows-forms-controls.aspx and also here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa479345.aspx I tested it and under 2007 it is working, but for 2003 i am getting the following error when i want to open the view: Could not complete the operation due to error 80131509 I can start it from Visual Studio, it is registering the folder just fine, debugging works and all that. It creates an HTML page that contains my type as an object parameter - but the Initialize method that should be called is either not present (not shown via JS) or it has some errors. The breakpoints for RegisterSafeForScripting are also never hit - maybe related to that. Thx in advance!

• Dialogs (Real ones)

  Having tried a number of different solutions I keep coming back to this. I need a Window.ShowDialog, using the ViewModelLocator class as a factory via a UnityContainer. Basically I have a View(and ViewModel) which on a button press on the the view needs to create a dialog (taking a couple of parameters in its constructor) that will process some logic and eventally return a result to the caller (along with the results of all the logic it computed). Maybe I'm wrong for stilll looking at this from a Windows Forms perspective, but I know exactly what I want to do and I want to ideally do it using WPF and MVVM. I'm trying to make this work for a project, and ultimately don't want to have to go back to vanilla WPF in order to make it work.

• Winforms ComboBox autocomplete search multiple parts of string

  Very similar question to this one... http://stackoverflow.com/questions/522521/autocomplete-for-combobox-in-wpf-anywhere-in-text-not-just-beginning but my issue is for windows-forms rather than WPF. I have a winforms databound combox working great with autocomplete list coming from the data items in the combobox. Of course the client wants it to work "better", and that means that they want the autocomplete to work by searching and showing autocomplete options for any matching (contains()) string not just the starting string (startswith()) I know it's probably not just a property that can be set in the combobox, but can anyone point me in the right direction?

• Is MVVM pointless?

  Is orthodox MVVM implementation pointless? I am creating a new application and I considered Windows Forms and WPF. I chose WPF because it's future-proof and offer lots of flexibility. There is less code and easier to make significant changes to your UI using XAML. Since the choice for WPF is obvious, I figured that I may as well go all the way by using MVVM as my application architecture since it offers blendability, separation concerns and unit testability. Theoretically, it seems beautiful like the holy grail of UI programming. This brief adventure; however, has turned into a real headache. As expected in practice, I’m finding that I’ve traded one problem for another. I tend to be an obsessive programmer in that I want to do things the right way so that I can get the right results and possibly become a better programmer. The MVVM pattern just flunked my test on productivity and has just turned into a big yucky hack! The clear case in point is adding support for a Modal dialog box. The correct way is to put up a dialog box and tie it to a view model. Getting this to work is difficult. In order to benefit from the MVVM pattern, you have to distribute code in several places throughout the layers of your application. You also have to use esoteric programming constructs like templates and lamba expressions. Stuff that makes you stare at the screen scratching your head. This makes maintenance and debugging a nightmare waiting to happen as I recently discovered. I had an about box working fine until I got an exception the second time I invoked it, saying that it couldn’t show the dialog box again once it is closed. I had to add an event handler for the close functionality to the dialog window, another one in the IDialogView implementation of it and finally another in the IDialogViewModel. I thought MVVM would save us from such extravagant hackery! There are several folks out there with competing solutions to this problem and they are all hacks and don’t provide a clean, easily reusable, elegant solution. Most of the MVVM toolkits gloss over dialogs and when they do address them, they are just alert boxes that don’t require custom interfaces or view models. I’m planning on giving up on the MVVM view pattern, at least its orthodox implementation of it. What do you think? Has it been worth the trouble for you if you had any? Am I just a incompetent programmer or does MVVM not what it's hyped up to be?

The trouble is if we deploy a new version of WCF service or leave the IIS and WPF application idle for sometime and then try to execute a functionality, we are get the following exception: The content type text/html of the response message does not match the content type of the binding (text/xml; charset=utf-8). If using a custom encoder, be sure that the IsContentTypeSupported method is implemented properly.   What is your opinion about open source software? It is helpful in many situation, for example a community can correct many bugs. But I also think that it can be dangerous for a software developer. If you develop an application and share its source code, a lot of applications can grow with a little effort, simply copying part of your code. For example, if you develop a library in WPF which can be used to create charts, and share your code, this can be dangerous for companies which main business is WPF component developing. And obviously it is dangerous for a software developer who works in that company. What do you think about this?

• Is it possible to reference the Azure SDK 1.1 Microsoft.WindowsAzure.* assemblies from a .NET 4.0 Cl

  I have a WPF application targetting the .NET 4.0 Client Profile which needs to use the Microsoft.WindowsAzure.* assemblies provided in the Windows Azure SDK 1.1. The problem is that these assemblies have a runtime version of v2.0.50727. I am able to add references to them from my WPF project but they're not recognised. I've read about the side by side execution capabilities of .NET 4.0 but does this require both the .NET 2.0 and the .NET 4.0 frameworks to be installed? Is there anything from Microsoft on when a new SDK might be available that contains assemblies targeting .NET 4.0?

• How to center text around point using xaml

  I would like to be able to place the word "hello" centered on a specific point. I need to do this completely in XAML without extra code. Best I can tell, all the text alignment properties/styles in XAML act on text within some bouding canvas or other element. Since I don't know the length of the text I want to center, I can't center it using my own code. The reason I need to solve the problem entirely in XAML is that I'm not using WPF to create the XAML, I'm writing it directly to an XML DOM. It will then be loaded into a Silverlight or WPF control for display. In most graphic languages, including SVG, which is where my code originated, text can be aligned against a "stationary point" without a bounding box. Any suggestions appreciated

• ClientLogin for Picasa Web Albums Data API with a Google App Domain login

  I'm using the Picasa Web Albums Data API to access users' photo albums from a WPF application. I've followed the code located here: http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/clientlogin.html I have created a Picasa Web Albums account with a Google Apps (hosted) account. Whenever I tried logging in with my WPF application, I get the "BadAuthentication" error code returned. Hoping someone has an idea what I'm doing wrong. Note, that this works when I login with a normal Google account. • Opening Visual Studio created XAML in Expression Blend

  I have created a console application using Visual Studio 2008. In a few cases, this application shows a WPF dialog. Now, the design view of Visual Studio is a little limited, so I'd like to edit this dialog using Expression Blend 3. Blend does not seem to have an option to load individual XAML files, and when I open my solution in Blend, only the XAML code is displayed when I try to edit the dialog. Edit: I've noticed, that no IntelliSense is available in the text view either. When I create a new WPF Project inside Blend, and copy my dialog there (overwriten MainWindows.xaml), I get a design view. What do I have to do to actually get a design view here? • Image (?) File(?) Metadata(?) Properties(?)

  Sorry for the question marks, but a simple (I think) question has an impossible solution. From file system, if I click on an image file "Properties | Details tab" I access to many metadata. I need to access from a WPF application to the Description properties (Title, Subject, Rating, Tag and Comment). In particular Tag. I have found a lot of articles, many are very old. A few in WPF and Imaging library. But no one access to that properties. So the question marks: are these properties on image? On file system? • WCF: What is the practical difference between transport and message reliability?

  Hello I am looking at differences between using WPF in .NET or using Silverlight 4 for the GUI front end of an app that connects to WCF services. I have read that net.tcp binding in Silverlight 4 only supports transport level reliability. With a WPF desktop app we can use message level reliability. What is the actual difference? If transport level reliability ensures that all TCP packets get through, doesnt that also mean that all WCF SOAP messages will also get through? I am also concerned that Silverlight only supports async message but thats a different issue. Thanks

• .net Studio Local Database

  Hello everyone, i am designing a local database in .net with wpf as gui. I have added a new database, and added a new table. Through the TableAdapter i generated 2 statements ( 1 statement is a select stmt and 1 is a insert) , i insert name and firstname (id is auto generated). • How to use a dialog in an Excel shared addin

  I'm writing a shared addin for Excel. It adds a CommandBarButton that when clicked opens a WPF window to collect some information from the user. I wanted to keep the same WPF dialog in memory and reuse it so that if the user clicks the CommandBarButton again their previous values would still be there. So I made a reference to my WPD as a private member of my addin object that implements Extensibility.IDTExtensibility2. I created the window during OnStartupComplete(), but for some reason when I run Excel the window immediately opens even though I never called ShowDialog() and when I do call ShowDialog() when the CommandBarButton is clicked to reOpen the window it fails to load. Does anyone know why this happens and what the correct way to handle this is? Thanks very much for any help.
