• [iphone] use NSString in other method?!

  It's really embarrassing but i stuck on it for two hours of trial and error. I declared an NSString in the interface as: NSString *testString; Then i made a property and synthesized it. I allocate it in viewDidLoad with: testString = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"thats my value: %i", row]; If i want to get the value of the string in another method it always return (null). So the string is empty, but why? how do i make it accessible for every function inside of one class? So i don't want to make a global var just a "global variable inside the class" It's really confusing because as long as i code i never ran into this problem :( thanks a lot for helping me!

• iPhone real memory climbs when interacting with UI

  I've been using the Activity Monitor to check the memory usage of my iPhone apps. I've noticed that the Real Memory climbs whenever I interact with the UI in any way, even if there's no code being called. For example, I can create a brand new View-Based application and run it, and as I click or drag in the empty window the Real Memory increases even though the app isn't responding in any way. I get that the view controller is doing some stuff in the background to interpret my interactions, but it seems like the memory should go back down after a second or so. Instead, it keeps going up and up and up as long as I keep clicking or dragging. I can wait forever and it never decreases. This is a little disturbing. Am I missing something?

• Oracle checking existence before deletion in a trigger

  I have analyzed a hibernate generated oracle database and discovered that a delete of a row from a single table will spawn the firing of 1200+ triggers in order to delete the related rows in child tables. The triggers are all auto-generated the same - an automatic delete of a child row without checking for existence first. As it is impossible to predict which child tables will actually have related rows, I think a viable solution to preventing the firing of the cascaded delete down a deeply branched completely empty limb, would be to check for the existence of a related row before attempting to delete. In other dbms', I could simply state " if exists....." before deleting. Is there a comparable way to do this in oracle?

• JQuery - How do I count the number of elements selected by a selector?

  I am using $().fadeOut() to fade items out in a list ( < li < /li). When the list is empty I wish to hide a parent object. I plan on doing this by checking in my trigger event that fades the list if the count of the objects is 0 then hide the parent element. I can use the fadeOut callback to remove the elements if necessary. The to the point question: How do I select li tags inside a ul and then get the total count of them using jquery?

• How do you send an array as part of an (jquery) ajax request

  I tried to send an array as part of an ajax request like this: var query = []; // in between I add some values to 'query' $.ajax({ url: "MyServlet", data: query, dataType: "json", success: function(noOfResults) { alert(noOfResults); } }); } I wanted to see what I get back in the servlet, so I used this line: System.out.println(request.getParameterMap().toString()); Which returned {} suggesting an empty map. Firebug tells me I am getting a 400 bad request error If I send a queryString like attribute=value as the 'data' then everything works fine, so it has to do with not being able to send an array as is. What do I have to do to get that data into the servlet for further processing. I don't want to pull it out and turn it into a queryString in the JS if I can avoid it. EDIT: I used the .serializeArray() (jQuery) function before sending the data. I don't get the 400 but nothing useful is being sent through.

  Hi, In a Java class , i am having a static list so this list is shared across all the objects of this class.The business logic in this class will run periodically which is invoked by some method with out passing instance parameters.Now I want to invoke this run method based on the list(I will add some vales into this list based on JMS) ,this list may empty sometimes and after finishing the run , i am emptying this list.Now my question is , whether I need to synchronize this list or not? Also let me know is there any other way to pass value in one object instance(Thread1) to other object instance (Thread2) other than having Static variable(static list)? Thx

  I know that you should always check incoming params to a method for null. But what if I have this scenario with a try/catch referring to a local variable. Do I really need to check for null below? Because it's gonna catch it anyway if it's null and the next line of code tries to use the refundResponse variable: public string DoRefund(...) { try { ...... string refundTransactionID = string.Empty; ...... • Recursion: using values passed in parameters

  I got this line of code that pops a int of the array saves it to int element then removes it from array. then in the return statement return CountCriticalVotes(rest, blockIndex + element); it ads it to the blockIndex variable and if it reaches 10 before the array is empty it returns 1. But my problem is this, I do not want it to add up all the values in the array in the parameter, but only add one then revert the parameter value back to it´s original state, then add a new, revert etc... • Manager property is not available for Full Text Search (SharePoint 2010)

  Hi, I had created a web part on MOSS 2007 which displays a organizational chart by searching (Full Text) the user profiles. To identify the subordinates of a user, I used to search for users with the particular user in Manager property. The query looked like this: SELECT AccountName, PreferredName, Manager, WorkEmail FROM scope() WHERE ("SCOPE" = 'People') AND Manager = 'domain\parent_user' But, the same query does not run in SharePoint 2010 as Manager crawled property does not exists. So, I created a new crawled property and mapped it to People:Manager(Text) now, the Manager property is always empty. Even a full crawl after clearing the indexes also not helping. Can anyone please help me in getting manager information in Full Text Search? Thanks in advance!

  Hint: Here is a similar post with HTML. In the current tablet implementation of my app, I have a fullscreen MapView with some informations displayed in a RelativeLayout on a left panel, like this: (My layout is quite trivial, and I guess there is no need to post it for readability) The problem comes when I want to center the map on a specific point... If I use this code: mapController.setCenter(point); I will of course get the point in the center of the screen and not in the center of the empty area.   Hi, I have a web page that is generated with Access 2003 and uses Office Web Components. It worked fine with IE6 and IE7 but does not work anymore with IE8. Here are more details. I create an MSODSC component and a WSH object to get my ConnectionString in the registry. Then the Dropdown Lists are fed by a request to the database. It works perfect with IE6 and IE7, works locally with IE8 but if the page is served by IIS to IE8, the drop down lists are empty. Can anyone help me ? Thanks Mactov It was just a security issue. I had put my site in the confidence zone (according to the error message). I transfered it into intranet zone and it works perfect.

  Hi, I currently have 3 textbox controls on my page. I also have a required valdiator of each of the textboxes. However I only want the validator for a textbox to fire if there is text in either of the other 2 textboxes. If all 3 textboxes are empty then no validators should fire. Is there any way I can do this in javascript/jquery as I want the user to get the best experience possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I am using a jquery contextmenu plugin for right click menus which I am trying to add to each li element of an unordered list with the ID mailbox.   I have a very big table with a lot of rows, every row has stats for every user for certain days. And obviously I don't have any stats for future. So to update the stats I use UPDATE Stats SET Visits=@val WHERE ... a lot of conditions ... AND Date=@Today But what if the row doesn't exist? I'd have to use INSERT INTO Stats (...) VALUES (Visits=@val, ..., Date=@Today) How can I check if the row exists or not? Is there any way different from doing the COUNT(*)? If I fill the table with empty cells, it'd take hundreds of thousands of rows taking megabytes and storing no data.

  I try to create php web app using GAE. In the GAE tutorial, "A script handler executes a PHP script to handle the request that matches the URL pattern. The mapping defines a URL pattern to match, and the script to be executed" Now I want to map the url with the file having same name in the folder, e.g. if the url is /hello.* , it will map the file name hello.php in the folder. And if it is /hello1.*, hello1.php in the folder will be responded to the server. I thought this should be done directly by mapping the name of the url with the name in the folder. But if I left empty for the handler in the app.yaml, I got an error. So I want to know how to set up the handler in app.yaml?

  I have a few rows of images like so <div class="row"> <img src="image.jpg" alt=""> <img src="image.jpg" alt=""> <img src="image.jpg" alt=""> <img src="image.jpg" alt=""> <img src="image.jpg" alt=""> </div> Each image has a different width, and there is also a different number of images on each row (4-6). I want to space the images evenly in the row, the row has a fixed width of 960px. I could do this by calculating the total empty space for each row and then dividing it among the images for a margin, but I was hoping there was something simpler that I could apply to every row instead of having to calculate and code a separate one for each row.

  I have a UITexetField with "Secure" option enabled in InterfaceBuilder (used to enter a password). Then I try to read, what the user entered. (void)textFieldDidEndEditing:(UITextField *)textField{ NSString *txt = textField.text; int a = 0; } It works fine with iOS 5 but since I use it in iOS6, this method no longer works - neither in simulator, nor at the real device. It was called, but textField.text returns always an empty string. With other UITextFields, without "Secure" option, it works fine. Could somebody help me ?
