• Gmail Notifier add-on stopped working [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: FireFox Gmail Notifier Plugin? Any body else have this problem? For the last 2-3 days it's not been working. I thought it might have been caused by another add-on, either a new one or updated one, so I disabled each one individually till I did them all. No luck. Haven't made any other changes to my system, Windows XP SP3.

  I recently switched to using a Git repository within Eclipse (Juno SR2), using EGit. In our project, some file names contains umlauts and other special non-ASCII-characters. On the command line, git status show no changes, workspace clean, but Eclipse marks those files as changed: How can I make Eclipse/EGit use the correct encoding for filenames? I tried setting LANG, file.encoding and the git config svn.pathnameencoding all to no avail. And again, on the command line there are no such errors.

• UNIX tool to dump a selection of HTML?

  I'm looking to monitor changes on websites and my current approach is being defeated by a rotating top banner. Is there a UNIX tool that takes a selection parameter (id attribute or XPath), reads HTML from stdin and prints to stdout the subtree based on the selection? For example, given an html document I want to filter out everything but the subtree of the element with id="content". Basically, I'm looking for the simplest HTML/XML equivalent to grep.

• Is there such a thing as a persistent ram drive?

  I have a laptop with a LAMP setup. The HDD is slow, which causes my unit tests to run slowly. I was wondering whether I could mount the web root the mysql database on some kind of ramdisk. From what I have read of ramdisks, they are non-persistent. Is there anyway to create a ramdisk that writes changes to an area of the hdd when shutting down and re-mounts the ramdisk on bootup?

• SQL Server suddenly using only a small portion of CPU.

  We've got a Windows 2008 R2 server running SQL Server 2008. All of a sudden, the SQLServer process is refusing to go above 20% CPU usage. As of last week, when running a heavy query against the db it would rise to 100% usage as I would expect. We've had this server for a while and it seems strange that it would just suddenly have this limit. This limit is causing our queries to take a lot longer than they normally would. No one has (knowingly at least) made any changes to the server configuration. After a bit of investigation, I discovered the sys.dm_os_sys_memory view. This shows 'available physical memory is high' bu at the same time the available physical memory is 339552kb where as the total is 4193848kb. It is worth noting that this is a virtual server running on vmware. Is there a setting somewhere with in SQL Server that sets the maximum CPU usage? I've found the settings in resource governor, although this is currently off as it always has been. We have recently started using Spotlight for SQL Server by Quest Software. It's playback database was located on this server for a short time this morning, I first noticed the problem shortly afterwards, although I hadn't been doing any queries prior to this so I don't know if this is the point at which the problem began, however the database was working as expected on Friday afternoon. • Windows 2003 Server Caching

  We're experiencing almost everyday table index corruption on Windows Server 2003. We are running an old application which uses DBF/CDX tables. Everything was fine for ages, but 6 months after we've installed Advantage Database Server (which allows access to some tables to our website) we started to get index corruption problems. And we don't know whom to blame. We've tried to exclude all possible causes of this corruption. Now all users work in terminal mode - so no network problems can cause that, OpLocks also can't be a reason. We changed hardware, network cards, switches, reainstalled Server and even moved to new dedicated server. The only thing we can't exclude is ADS - because it should be working. Is that possible that local read/write caching that causes that problem? E.g. one user or process uses cached data, later another user/process changes it, and later the first user changes it again without knowing about the first change. Is it possible theoretically? Is it possible that this problem is caused by imporper file server or caching settings? Is it possible that normal users use non-cached data and ADS is using cached data? Or vice versa? Is it possible that each terminal user has its own cache? Or maybe the problem is about RAID caching somehow interfering with Windows Server caching? Or maybe there are some special settings for Windows Server for working with DBF tables that are being written simultaneously by several terminal users? Maybe there is a way to turn off caching for some certain files to check it? Sometimes we get index crash twice a day, sometimes everything is fine for 5 days in a row. Today only one user was working in the evening with the database (usually there are 30-50 users are working simultaneously on working hours). So it's almost zero load on server. , Syncronization with website is performed every 5 minutes during work hours and every 15 minutes in the evening and on weekend. We've done file access auditing and it shows that during website syncroniztions ADS server opens the table and index files for ReadEA and WriteEA though it performs only SELECT queries. ADS does UPDATE/INSERT queries but less freqently - not during regular synchronizations, but only when an order is placed by website visitor). Please help me. We are struggling with this problem for almost a year and still can't find any pattern or any clue about this problem. • Is it possible to modify/rebuild an rpm without the srpm?

  I have an rpm for which I need to change the preinstal scriptlet for testing. However, I do not have the SRPM from which is was built. Is it possible to change the scriptlet and/or rebuild the rpm without having the SRPM? If so, how? I've tried using Midnight Commander (mc) to open the rpm as a directory structure and edit the contents, but even with 444 permissions, it won't let me save any changes.

• Can I keep stream info displayed while in a full screen visualization in VLC?

  I am streaming an internet radio station through vlc. When its playing in the player, the title bar shows the song title and artist. When going full screen, it shows the song title/artist for a brief moment in white at the bottom of the screen. But, that quickly disappears. It does not come back up when the song changes. Is there a way to keep the stream info on screen while in full screen visualization mode in vlc?

However my Mac reverts back to original DNS server IP address on each reboot and I have to manually change it everytime. How can I make my changes persist on reboot? • How can I tell which "explorer.exe" process is the main one?

  I have a batch file that changes a few registry files, and then restarts explorer.exe so that they take effect. I'm using the command taskkill /f /im explorer.exe and then explorer.exe which of course kills all the explorer.exe processes, including the explorer windows I have open. Obviously, I am using the option to Launch folder windows in a separate process. Is there any way I can determine which instance of explorer.exe is the main one, and just kill that?

I've tried contacting ovh but they just told me to set my dns to something diffrent but I can't as this operation is blocking any changes to the DNS records. Is there anything that I could do accept bug OVH?

Same goes for any changes to the config (e.g. number of maximum requests, etc). Instead, it never ends "waiting", like this: $ sudo service apache2 restart * Restarting web server apache2 ... waiting .................................................. until I just do CTRL-C. At that point, the only way to resume a working server is to kill the process and restart it, not very convenient. The same happens with the stop command. The Apache error log may have more information. Unfortunately the Apache error log doesn't have anything. When apache2 is running properly, both apps work without any problem.

• Sending mail from command line if body not empty

  I'd like to write a simple script that alerts me if a log changes. For this I'm using grep to find the lines I'm interested in. Right now it works like this: grep line /var/log/file | mail -s Log [email protected] Problem is that this sends a mail even if no matching lines are found. The mail utility from mailutils seems to have no switch telling it to drop mails that have an empty body. Is there a quick and easy way to do so?
