  • Postfix / Dovecot and Email Retrieval

    I have setup Postfix and Dovecot on an Ubuntu box following the instructions http://www.exratione.com/2012/05/a-mailserver-on-ubuntu-1204-postfix-dovecot-mysql/ I can see that email is being delivered to and accepted by the server, but the email is not available for retrieval via POP3. What could be missing in my configuraton? It seems that email is not being properly handed off to Dovecot.   • Anyone know of a command-line torrent client to run on a server?

    I have an account with a torrent site that gives and takes credits when you upload/download respectively. My ideal setup to keep my credits going would be some kind of media box that keeps and manages my music and videos etc. Ideally, I'd like this to be a headless box that I could just telnet into and have it run torrents that way. This server would be running ubuntu server by the way.

  • Run Tomcat Service as Different User on Windows 7

    I have installed Tomcat6 using the 32-bit/64-bit Windows Service Installer download version. In the setup instructions, it is recommended that "For optimal security, the service should be run as a separate user, with reduced permissions". I created a new local/standard user (Tomcat) to run the service. The Tomcat service is listed in my list of Services and it's running under my user profile. However, I can't figure out how to set/change which user to start it as.

  • Can I enable discards on a LUKS-encrypted ssd drive in RHEL6 (and do I need to)?

    I have a RHEL 6.4 workstation, running on a LUKS-encrypted LV residing on a SSD. I found RedHat documentation stating that dm_crypt does not currently support TRIM passthrough, however I also found other sources that state the opposite (albeit for other distributions) and even that discards are not needed for recent SSD drives which use some sort of automatic garbage collection. So: 1) Can I enable TRIM/discards with my setup? 2) Do I need to, for optimal disk performance? Thanks for your thoughts.

  • Rewriting URL for tomcat through an apache AJP connector.

    I've tried several attempts to resolve this, but all have come up naught. Currently I have apache setup to forward all urls at and past the /portal/ tag to tomcat. Unfortunately, tomcat receives these requests through /portal/appName, a subdirectory in webapps rather than the webapps root directory where my wars are deployed. Is there a simple solution to this that I'm not seeing? I've been trying to use mod_rewrite to ^/portal/ $ / but that doesn't yield the expected results (perhaps I'm doing this wrong?).

What am I missing?

However, while Tomboy for Ubuntu does expose a 'Ubuntu One' service for synchronization, version 1.2.0 of Tomboy for Windows does not. I can, however, use a "Tomboy Web" service. Does Ubuntu One behave as a Tomboy Web service and how would I configure it to do so?

  • Should use EXT4 or XFS to be able to 'sync'/backup to S3?

    It's my first message here, so bear with me... (I have already checked quite a few of the "Related Questions" suggested by the editor) Here's the setup, a brand new dedicated server (8GB RAM, some 140+ GB disk, Raid 1 via HW controller, 15000 RPM) it's a production web server (with MySQL in it, too, not just serving web requests); not a personal desktop computer or similar. Ubuntu Server 64bit 10.04 LTS We have an Amazon EC2+EBS setup with the EBS volume formatted as XFS for easily taking snapshots to S3, via AWS' console. We are now migrating to the dedicated server and I want to be able to backup our data to Amazon's S3. The main reason being the possibility of using the latest snapshot from an EC2 instance in case of hardware failure on the dedicated server. There are two approaches I am thinking of: do a "simple" file-based backup with rsync, dumping the database' and other files, and uploading to amazon via S3 API commands, or to an EC2 instance, or something. do a file-system "freeze" (using XFS) with the usual ebs/ec2 snapshot tool to take part of the file system, take a snapshot, and upload it to Amazon. Here's my question (or series of questions): Can I safely use XFS for the whole system as the main and only format on the dedicated server? If not, is it safe to use EXT4? Or should I use something else? would then be possible to make snapshots of the system to upload to Amazon? Is it possible/feasible/practical to do what I want to do, anyway? any recommendations? When searching around for S3/EBS/XFS, anything relevant to my problem is usually focused on taking snapshots of a XFS system that is already an EBS volume. My intention is to do it in a "real"/metal dedicated server. Update: I just saw this on Wikipedia: XFS does not provide direct support for snapshots, as it expects the snapshot process to be implemented by the volume manager. I had always assumed that I could choose 2 ways of doing snapshots: via LVM or via XFS (without LVM). After reading this, I realize these 2 options are more like it: With XFS: 1) do xfs_freeze; 2) copy the frozen files via, eg, rsync; 3) unfreeze xfs With LVM and XFS: 1) do xfs_freeze; 2) make a binary copy of the frozen fs via lvcreate and related commands; 3) unfreeze xfs; 4) somehow backup the LVM snapshot.     i have setup an exchange 2010 account on microsoft outlook 2010 and i can read my emails, but i am not able to send emails, when i create a new email and click send, the messages are not sent, they don't even get to the outbox folder. my guess is that the issue is not from exchange itself, becuase i can send emails with this exchange account with java code using smtp port 25 please advise how to fix this issue.

I cannot seem to find the POP/IMAP settings to connect to in the Settings Sections of the new Outlook.com interface. The only instructions I could find mentioned were using the Hotmail interface, and the corresponding section does not exist in the Outlook.com redesigned settings.
