Windows Update broke Wirless driver - Can't get it working again

I naively installed a driver update incoming from Windows Updates yesterday. That caused my Wifi on my Notebook (HP ELitebook 2740p) to break. The network is working as I tried it with my other mobile devices. When installing said driver, it told me that the installation failed. I tried to do a system restore, which did not help getting wifi connectivity back. The device said it was working, but did not get any wifi connection and did not discover any networks. What I tried next was to uninstall the device from my Device Manager and install either the current drivers found through windows, then I tried the same with the current drivers on the HP driver page. both of those attempts failed. It always tells me that installation failed when I uninstall and reinstall drivers. If I try to update the broken driver via internet, it tells me it is up to date, and in the device manager it still views as broken. Next, I 'played' around a bit and reinstalled drivers, and I managed to install drivers from 2012, and when trying to update drivers manually and picking drivers that match the device, it lets me choose between drivers from 2010 and 2014. 2014 would be the current one, picking the 2010 driver leads to the driver being accepted. However, no wireless network can be found. I'm pretty much out of ideas by now, short of reinstalling. The only option I can still think of was that the device broke at the exact moment I installed the new windows driver, but I find that a bit unlikely. Any help would be appreciated fixing this issue.

/scripts/easyapache broke PHP and now outputs binary

I ran /scripts/easyapache on one of my cpanel servers last night and since then PHP just gives 501 errors, which no logs I can find. I tried running it again and it's running as normal but all output has been replaced with strange characters, eg: ????+?+± °?? ?-?.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? ¦+?+?.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? ?=?/¦+?+?.?... +? ????+?+± °?? ?=?/??++.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? ??++.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? ???+?+.?... +? ????+?+± °?? ?=?/????¦???.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? +??±?+.?... =?? ????+?+± °?? +??¦+?.?... =?? Has anyone come across this before? Is it fixable?

Synergy setup broke on upgrade

I had synergy setup working fine with version 1.3.7, however I got a new computer and decided to set it up as well. Because the setup I was working with was ubuntu (server - dual monitors) mac (client) and the new computer (replacing the mac) was windows, I ended up updating everything to 1.4.10. ______ ______ ______ | mac | ubu1 | ubu2 | |______|______|______| The problem is currently that dragging to the left of ubu1 causes the cursor on the mac to flicker briefly and then the cursor shows up at the bottom right corner of ubu2. Torrentflux broke after upgrade

A working torrentflux setup seems to have gone broken after upgrading PHP to 5.3 and Postrgres to 9.2beta3 on a FreeBSD 8.2 server. The login screen will show up fine, but after clicking the login button, I get an error : Fatal error: Call to undefined function pg_escape_string() in \ /usr/home/parker/tf/html/inc/lib/adodb/drivers/adodb-postgres64.inc.php \ on line 241 Seems to be an error with PHP and the pgsql php package. The phppgsql package itself is not totally broken because I'm using it to host database driven apps on this server. This is the first and only error I'm seeing from it. How might I go about fixing this problem?

Removing forward lookup zone broke our site - why?

I'm fairly new to the job and trying to get to grips with the infrastructure here. We've moved a site from being locally hosted on our own network to an external host (1&1). I've transferred the DNS hosting from the previous DNS host to 1&1 to keep things simple. Once everything had gone through, visitors that were external to our network were being directed to the new site on 1&1 but requests from within our network were still going to our own server. I noticed in the DNS server that there was a forward lookup zone for the site pointing to our own server still. My (admittedly simplistic) understanding was that pausing that zone would then cause the DNS server to get the address for the site from our external DNS servers and our users would start landing on our new site. However, what happened instead was that they were being met with "page not found" type errors. I've resolved it my modifying the forward lookup zone A record to point to the external web server but would like to get an understanding as to why pausing the zone didn't work. Would deleting the zone work? I am reluctant to try that as creating it again will not be as easy as simply pressing "start". Many thanks.

Mindtouch broke my Apache2 virtual host configuration.

I installed mindtouch using the instructions here and it seems to have broken my Virtual Host configuration. I have several domains running off the same apache instance and this was working fine but now all my domain names resolve to the virtualhost where mindtouch was installed. So mindtouch made all my domain names point to the new mindtouch instance. Grrr! I use debians default virtual host mechanisms (sites-enabled, etc). Does anyone know what apache directive mindtouch is using to ruin my vh setup? I've scoured all the conf files and there is nothing obvious in apache2.conf or httpd.conf that would cause the behaviour. Did it create a sym-link somewhere that I should destroy? Switching PHP to FastCGI from mod_php broke AMFPHP

Hi, i've just switched my debian server from mod_php to fastcgi following this tutorial everything goes right but now i've found that one of the hosted application that using AMFPHP for flash remoting is broken. I'm trying to understand what's happend. Looking at it with FireBug and FireAMF it seems that the responses has a content but the Flash callbacks never get called and if i try to open the service browser it displays this error: (mx.rpc::Fault)#0 errorID = 0 faultCode = "Client.Error.RequestTimeout" faultDetail = "The request timeout for the sent message was reached without receiving a response from the server." faultString = "Request timed out" message = "faultCode:Client.Error.RequestTimeout faultString:'Request timed out' faultDetail:'The request timeout for the sent message was reached without receiving a response from the server.'" name = "Error" rootCause = (null) It's strange it seems that the server takes a long time to responde, then (in the service browser) flash made a new call to the server and the old one get a response. Some problem with sessions ? Really no idea ....

Accidentally broke/remapped git command line command

I think I accidentally remapped my git command to automatically include the subcommand credential-osxkeychain on the command line while trying to install a git credential-helper. When I enter $git it now displays Usage: git credential-osxkeychain <get|store|erase> How can I fix it? Entering $alias returns alias rvm-restart='rvm_reload_flag=1 source '\''/Users/teh/.rvm/scripts/rvm'\''' Entering $which git returns /usr/bin/git I think the problem may have began when I entered a command to move git-credential-osxkeychain into /usr/bin/git instead of /usr/bin/

Pasting into Vista cmd.exe broke, why?

I use Windows Vista x64 and regularly use the command line window CMD.EXE. I have enabled QuickEdit Mode (and Insert Mode and AutoComplete), to be able to quickly copy and paste text. Copying (select block, Enter) works fine. Pasting (right click) text also works, as long as it has been copied inside a CMD.EXE window. When I copied the text somewhere else (in an editor, browser or whatever) however, pasting into CMD.EXE does not work! :-( Using the menu to Edit, Paste does not do anything either, so it's not a mouse thing. I also tried elevating CMD.EXE. I can copy/paste freely between CMD.EXE instances of all sorts: elevated/normal, x64/x86... I'm sure it did work on this machine until relatively recently. What could have happened? Some Windows Update perhaps? The problem has been reported by others, but without a solution.

Fixed ruby/mysql connection with new libmysql.dll, and broke Apache in the process

Ok so bit of background - all my development has been on a local Windows 7 machine. I had Apache with PHP/MySQL running with no issues. Been using ruby (1.9.3 and latest rails release 3.2.9) with built in webrick server, but had a devil of a time connecting to mysql. Did some research, updated my libmysql.dll file in c:/ruby/bin and it worked! Very happy... except now Apache stopped working. In my attempt to resolve the issue I found an older copy of libmysql.dll, renamed the new file, copied the old file back to c:ruby/bin and apache works, ruby does not. So I can take this ass backwards approach but obviously this seems pretty stupid. I was surprised that Apache was using the dll file in ruby/bin folder. I presume this is related to path variables perhaps? I guess I was hoping someone could direct me as to how I can use one dll file for apache and another for ruby. Or if you have some other smarter approach - I've smart enough to follow directions to install apache from scratch and enable php on windows as well as ubuntu, but I'm not much of a sys admin, just a semi competent web developer.

Removing integrated video card drivers broke other hardware?

I just purchased and installed an XFX ATI Radeon HD 4650 video card. The installation instructions said to remove the old video card drivers before installing the new driver. I did both things, but now every time I start my computer, the Found New Hardware wizard pops up for the following three devices: PCI Device SM Bus Controller Other PCI Bridge Device Furthermore, my LAN port no longer functions. The cable's connected, and the light on the port comes on, but the computer can't find any servers when I attempt to connect with it. The modem and router are working, and obviously I'm able to use the other computer here to post this. What do I do to fix this?

Cisco FWSM -> ASA upgrade broke our mail server

We send mail with unicode asian characters to our mail server on the other side of our WAN... immediately after upgrading from a FWSM running 2.3(2) to an ASA5550 running 8.2(5), we saw failures on mail jobs that contained unicode. The symptoms are pretty clear... using the ASA's packet capture utility, we snagged the traffic before and after it left the ASA... access-list PCAP line 1 extended permit tcp any host 192.0.2.25 eq 25 capture pcap_inside type raw-data access-list PCAP buffer 1500000 packet-length 9216 interface inside capture pcap_outside type raw-data access-list PCAP buffer 1500000 packet-length 9216 interface WAN I downloaded the pcaps from the ASA by going to https://<fw_addr>/pcap_inside/pcap and https://<fw_addr>/pcap_outside/pcap... when I looked at them with Wireshark Follow TCP Stream, the inside traffic going into the ASA looks like this EHLO metabike AUTH LOGIN YzFwbUlciXNlck== cZUplCVyXzRw But the same mail leaving the ASA on the outside interface looks like this... EHLO metabike AUTH LOGIN YzFwbUlciXNlck== XXXXXXXXXXXX The XXXX characters are concerning... I fixed the issue by disabling ESMTP inspection: wan-fw1(config)# policy-map global_policy wan-fw1(config-pmap)# class inspection_default wan-fw1(config-pmap-c)# no inspect esmtp wan-fw1(config-pmap-c)# end The $5 question... our old FWSM used SMTP fixup without issues... mail went down at the exact moment that we brought the new ASAs online... what specifically is different about the ASA that it is now breaking this mail? Note: usernames / passwords / app names were changed... don't bother trying to Base64-decode this text.

Portion of Screen Broke

Hi, A portion of my laptop screen broke. Is there any kind of software that will just ignore that part and resize everything accordingly? It's like 1/6 of the screen on the right that makes anything over there impossible to see. If not, what would be the best programming language to go about making my own program? It is a PC but I can also run Ubuntu if that would be easier to make a program for.

Installing .NET 3.5 SP1 on server broke WCF

I installed .NET 3.5 SP1 on server which previously had .NET 3.0 SP2. Before install site was working perfectly. After install and subsequeny server restart, site displays but anything that makes use of the WCF service has stopped working. The exception log reports exceptions like the following when any calls are made to the client proxy: The communication object, System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel, cannot be used for communication because it is in the Faulted state. The server's application event log gave the following errors after the install: Configuration section system.serviceModel.activation already exists in c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\machine.config. Configuration section system.runtime.serialization already exists in c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\machine.config. Configuration section system.serviceModel already exists in c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\machine.config. which seems to be inline with the fact that anything WCF related has stopped working. I am not experienced in server configurations or WCF so looking for any assistance with this. Thanks!! MFMailComposeViewController broke CSS styles in html template

I use MFMailComposeViewController to send a message in html format. If my html template contains the css styles: <div class="margin:10 10 10 0"> <a href="domain.name">Go To</a></div> In this case it works good. But if I send: <a href="domain.name">Go To</a> then I see the letter that comes with broken styles as there (3D is not my misprint) <div style=3D"margin:10 10 10 10;"><a href=3D"www.google.com">Go=C2=A0To</a></div> Well as the letter goes broken when I insert in the template symbols from national alphabets. Somebody can tell what the problem and check with yourself?

WCF done broke.

WCF is completely fouled up on my machine. I start a new sln in VS2008. Add a project (WCF Service Lib).Build the project (builds ok). debug the project -- it gets halfway through the progress bar and bombs out with the error below (real path changed to "my mex path" so codeproject doesn't think its spam). I'm assuming it's file permissions but don't know where to start. Query broke down and left me stranded in the woods

I am trying to execute a query that deletes all files from the images table that do not exist in the filters tables. I am skipping 3,500 of the latest files in the database as to sort of "Trim" the table back to 3,500 + "X" amount of records in the filters table. The filters table holds markers for the file, as well as the file id used in the images table. The code will run on a cron job. Everything seemed to be okay (at least with the default branch) but all feature branches are missing files which haven't been changed in the branch. Is there any way to fix this up? I'm using version 1.5, convert has been done via "hg convert cvs/checkout newrepo".

A friend has pointed me to his old website and says "the submit form just stopped working a while ago. I'm sure it's something simple." The form asks a child for a certain word from a book, and based on the answer, it should redirect the child to a success page or a failure page. It's using Javascript 1.2, circa 2001. JavaScript functions broke my page jumps?

Hi everybody, I'm trying to develop a personal website and running into some issues. At the top of my page I had a horizontal table that contained 6 different images (buttons) that linked to different sections of the page. I wanted to spice up the buttons with JavaScript and make the image of the button change onMouseOver and onMouseOut so I found a way to do so online with some JavaScript but the problem now is that the buttons no longer jump to the appropriate section of the page when using Google Chrome or Safari, but in IE 9 they still do work correctly... Once again, the weirder thing is that this is only the case when I'm using Google Chrome on my laptop running Windows 7 or Safari using my iPhone 4 but when I use the new Internet Explorer 9 on my laptop running Windows 7 all the buttons still link correctly. Any idea what's breaking the links?

Model binding broke after upgrade to Visual Studio 2010

I have an ASP.net MVC 1.0 VS2008 application that I just opened in Visual Studio 2010. When I did this Studio upgraded the app from VS2008 to the VS2010 project. It also upgraded the MVC references from 1.0 to 2.0. In my app I have a class for a form post, I then use the class for the model binding in the Action method so it will auto populate the values. This worked fine in mvc 1.0 but now it does not work in 2.0 after the upgrade. Does does anyone know why? Or where I should look to resolve this? ATI propriatery drivers install latest 12.8, broke my kernel. Stuck on kernel 3.2.0-26

I messed up a bit. Hoping some here can help me. I tried to install the newest catalyst 12.8. Sadly, this broke my system. I was stuck in low graphics mode. I finally managed to restore the proprietary drivers, and get into ubuntu again. But now I am stuck on kernel 3.2.0.26. I had installed kernel 3.2.0-30, but the system no longer sees it. I have kernel 3.2.0-29 too, but the system cannot see that as well. In the grub menu. When I use sudo update-grub, they are both listed. Broke NetBeans file associations in Windows XP how do I get them back?

I broke my file association in XP... Does anyone have any clue how to fix it? When I right click and select Open With... the application I want to use (NetBeans) to open the file is not on the list... and when I browse for it it won't let me select it (well it does but then won't add it to the list). The way I broke it is by installing 6.7 and then uninstalling 6.5.... since then my file associations have all been broken. I even tried uninstalling NetBeans and reinstalling it again... no luck... I even went as far as adding my own action called "OpenIt" to the file types I wanted... and that works... but only if the file/folders that contain in don't have any spaces... otherwise NetBeans throws a ".....does not exist, or is not a plain file". Thus nothing off the desktop can be opened... Does anyone know of how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

Broke NetBeans file associations in Windows XP how do I get them back?

Hello... I broke my file association in XP... Does anyone have any clue how to fix it? When I right click and select Open With... the application I want to use (NetBeans) to open the file is not on the list... and when I browse for it it won't let me select it (well it does but then won't add it to the list). The way I broke it is by installing 6.7 and then uninstalling 6.5.... since then my file associations have all been broken. I even tried uninstalling NetBeans and reinstalling it again... no luck...
