  • Animating the drawing of a line

    - by jkigel
    I'm trying to animate the drawing of a line by the following way: .h CAShapeLayer *rootLayer; CAShapeLayer *lineLayer; CGMutablePathRef path; .m path = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathMoveToPoint(path, nil, self.frame.size.width/2-100, 260); CGPathAddLineToPoint(path, nil, self.frame.size.width/2+100.0, 260); CGPathCloseSubpath(path); self.rootLayer = [CALayer layer]; rootLayer.frame = self.bounds; [self.layer addSublayer:rootLayer]; self.lineLayer = [CAShapeLayer layer]; [lineLayer setPath:path]; [lineLayer setFillColor:[UIColor redColor].CGColor]; [lineLayer setStrokeColor:[UIColor blueColor].CGColor]; [lineLayer setLineWidth:1.5]; [lineLayer setFillRule:kCAFillRuleNonZero]; [rootLayer addSublayer:lineLayer]; [self performSelector:@selector(startTotalLine) withObject:nil afterDelay:1.5]; - (void)startTotalLine { CABasicAnimation *animation = [CABasicAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"animatePath"]; [animation setDuration:3.5]; animation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]; [animation setAutoreverses:NO]; [animation setFromValue:(id)path]; [animation setToValue:(id)path]; [lineLayer addAnimation:animation forKey:@"animatePath"]; } The line had drawn before the startTotalLine method is invoked. Also, the startTotalLine method doesn't affect the line. I want it to animate the the line drawing from right to left

  • UIBezierPath too many paths = too slow?

    - by HHHH
    I have a loop in which I'm adding many (10000+) lines to a UIBezierPath. This seems to be fine, but once I try and render the bezierpath, my device becomes extremely slow and jerky. Is this because I've added too many lines to my path? Adding lines to UIBezierPath - simplified: (this seems fine) [path moveToPoint:CGPointZero]; for (int i = 0; i < 10000; i++ ) { [path addLineToPoint:CGPointMake(i, i)]; } Rendering BeizerPath (Suggested by Rob) - this seems slow. - (void)drawBezierAnimate:(BOOL)animate { UIBezierPath *bezierPath = path; CAShapeLayer *bezier = [[CAShapeLayer alloc] init]; bezier.path = bezierPath.CGPath; bezier.strokeColor = [UIColor blueColor].CGColor; bezier.fillColor = [UIColor clearColor].CGColor; bezier.lineWidth = 2.0; bezier.strokeStart = 0.0; bezier.strokeEnd = 1.0; [self.layer addSublayer:bezier]; if (animate) { CABasicAnimation *animateStrokeEnd = [CABasicAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"strokeEnd"]; animateStrokeEnd.duration = 100.0; animateStrokeEnd.fromValue = [NSNumber numberWithFloat:0.0f]; animateStrokeEnd.toValue = [NSNumber numberWithFloat:1.0f]; [bezier addAnimation:animateStrokeEnd forKey:@"strokeEndAnimation"]; } } Qs: 1) Is this because I'm adding too many paths too quickly? 2) I want to eventually draw many different lines of different colors, so I assume I would need to create multiple (10000+) UIBezierPaths - would this help or greatly slow the device as well? 3) How would I get around this? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • iphone quartz drawing 2 lines on top of each other causes worm effect

    - by Leonard
    I'm using Quartz-2D for iPhone to display a route on a map. The route is colored according to temperature. Because some streets are colored yellow, I am using a slightly thicker black line under the route line to create a border effect, so that yellow parts of the route are spottable on yellow streets. But, even if the black line is as thick as the route line, the whole route looks like a worm (very ugly). I tought this was because I was drawing lines from waypoint to waypoint, instead using the last waypoint as the next starting waypoint. That way if there is a couple of waypoints missing, the route will still have no cuts. What do I need to do to display both lines without a worm effect? -(void) drawRect:(CGRect) rect { CSRouteAnnotation* routeAnnotation = (CSRouteAnnotation*)self.routeView.annotation; // only draw our lines if we're not int he moddie of a transition and we // acutally have some points to draw. if(!self.hidden && nil != routeAnnotation.points && routeAnnotation.points.count > 0) { CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); Waypoint* fromWaypoint = [[Waypoint alloc] initWithDictionary:[routeAnnotation.points objectAtIndex:0]]; Waypoint* toWaypoint; for(int idx = 1; idx < routeAnnotation.points.count; idx++) { toWaypoint = [[Waypoint alloc] initWithDictionary:[routeAnnotation.points objectAtIndex:idx]]; CLLocation* fromLocation = [fromWaypoint getLocation]; CGPoint fromPoint = [self.routeView.mapView convertCoordinate:fromLocation.coordinate toPointToView:self]; CLLocation* toLocation = [toWaypoint getLocation]; CGPoint toPoint = [self.routeView.mapView convertCoordinate:toLocation.coordinate toPointToView:self]; routeAnnotation.lineColor = [fromWaypoint.weather getTemperatureColor]; CGContextBeginPath(context); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 3.0); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, [UIColor blackColor].CGColor); CGContextMoveToPoint(context, fromPoint.x, fromPoint.y); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, toPoint.x, toPoint.y); CGContextStrokePath(context); CGContextClosePath(context); CGContextBeginPath(context); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 3.0); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, routeAnnotation.lineColor.CGColor); CGContextMoveToPoint(context, fromPoint.x, fromPoint.y); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, toPoint.x, toPoint.y); CGContextStrokePath(context); CGContextClosePath(context); fromWaypoint = toWaypoint; } [fromWaypoint release]; [toWaypoint release]; } } Also, I get a <Error>: CGContextClosePath: no current point. error, which I think is bullshit. Please hint me! :)

  • iPhone PopUp RGB colors

    - by McLas
    Hi, I am presenting a UIView with an animation that takes half of the screen. I've seen it in many apps but could not find the appropriate RGB colors: iOS uses it for example in "contacts": http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/9402/image001u.png I'm trying with : bottomLayer.backgroundColor = [[UIColor colorWithRed:80.0/255.0 green:86.0/255.0 blue:97.0/255.0 alpha:1] CGColor]; but it's all whitey. If anyone could get how this popup is designed... Thanks!

  • Basic drawing with Quartz 2D on iPhone

    - by wwrob
    My goal is to make a program that will draw points whenever the screen is touched. This is what I have so far: The header file: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface ElSimView : UIView { CGPoint firstTouch; CGPoint lastTouch; UIColor *pointColor; CGRect *points; int npoints; } @property CGPoint firstTouch; @property CGPoint lastTouch; @property (nonatomic, retain) UIColor *pointColor; @property CGRect *points; @property int npoints; @end The implementation file: //@synths etc. - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { return self; } - (id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder *)coder { if(self = [super initWithCoder:coder]) { self.npoints = 0; } return self; } - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; firstTouch = [touch locationInView:self]; lastTouch = [touch locationInView:self]; } - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; lastTouch = [touch locationInView:self]; points = (CGRect *)malloc(sizeof(CGRect) * ++npoints); points[npoints-1] = CGRectMake(lastTouch.x-15, lastTouch.y-15,30,30); [self setNeedsDisplay]; } - (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; lastTouch = [touch locationInView:self]; [self setNeedsDisplay]; } - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 2.0); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, [UIColor blackColor].CGColor); CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(context, pointColor.CGColor); for(int i=0; i<npoints; i++) CGContextAddEllipseInRect(context, points[i]); CGContextDrawPath(context, kCGPathFillStroke); } - (void)dealloc { free(points); [super dealloc]; } @end When I load this and click some points, it draws the first points normally, then then next points are drawn along with random ellipses (not even circles). Also I have another question: When is exactly drawRect executed?

  • App using MonoTouch Core Graphics mysteriously crashes

    - by Stephen Ashley
    My app launches with a view controller and a simple view consisting of a button and a subview. When the user touches the button, the subview is populated with scrollviews that display the column headers, row headers, and cells of a spreadsheet. To draw the cells, I use CGBitmapContext to draw the cells, generate an image, and then put the image into the imageview contained in the scrollview that displays the cells. When I run the app on the iPad, it displays the cells just fine, and the scrollview lets the user scroll around in the spreadsheet without any problems. If the user touches the button a second time, the spreadsheet redraws and continues to work perfectly, If, however, the user touches the button a third time, the app crashes. There is no exception information display in the Application Output window. My first thought was that the successive button pushes were using up all the available memory, so I overrode the DidReceiveMemoryWarning method in the view controller and used a breakpoint to confirm that this method was not getting called. My next thought was that the CGBitmapContext was not getting released and looked for a Monotouch equivalent of Objective C's CGContextRelease() function. The closest I could find was the CGBitmapContext instance method Dispose(), which I called, without solving the problem. In order to free up as much memory as possible (in case I was somehow running out of memory without tripping a warning), I tried forcing garbage collection each time I finished using a CGBitmapContext. This made the problem worse. Now the program would crash moments after displaying the spreadsheet the first time. This caused me to wonder whether the Garbage Collector was somehow collecting something necessary to the continued display of graphics on the screen. I would be grateful for any suggestions on further avenues to investigate for the cause of these crashes. I have included the source code for the SpreadsheetView class. The relevant method is DrawSpreadsheet(), which is called when the button is touched. Thank you for your assistance on this matter. Stephen Ashley public class SpreadsheetView : UIView { public ISpreadsheetMessenger spreadsheetMessenger = null; public UIScrollView cellsScrollView = null; public UIImageView cellsImageView = null; public SpreadsheetView(RectangleF frame) : base() { Frame = frame; • How to animate an non-closed path with CAShapeLayer?

    - by mystify
    On GitHub you can find an example for CAShapeLayer which animates an path. It animates a pentagon turning into a star. First: This works only in the iPhone simulator. OS 3.0 on the device shows serious bugs with this code. But I can't find anything wrong in there. However, I tried to animate an path which is not closed. To put it simply: A few straight lines. Is there anything special I must do to get this work properly on the device? - (void)loadView { UIView *appView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]]; appView.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; self.view = appView; [appView release]; rootLayer = [CALayer layer]; rootLayer.frame = self.view.bounds; [self.view.layer addSublayer:rootLayer]; //Pentagon Path pentagonPath = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathMoveToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 10.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 100.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 110.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 120.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 130.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 310.0f, 270.0f); //CGPathCloseSubpath(pentagonPath); //Star Path starPath = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathMoveToPoint(starPath, nil, 10.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(starPath, nil, 100.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(starPath, nil, 210.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(starPath, nil, 220.0f, 260.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(starPath, nil, 230.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(starPath, nil, 310.0f, 270.0f); //CGPathCloseSubpath(starPath); //Create Shape shapeLayer = [CAShapeLayer layer]; //shapeLayer.path = pentagonPath; UIColor *col = [UIColor colorWithWhite:0.9 alpha:1.0]; //shapeLayer.fillColor = col.CGColor; shapeLayer.strokeColor = col.CGColor; shapeLayer.lineWidth = 3.0f; // shapeLayer.contents = [UIImage imageNamed:@"test.png"]; shapeLayer.fillRule = kCAFillRuleEvenOdd; [rootLayer addSublayer:shapeLayer]; [self performSelector:@selector(startAnimation) withObject:nil afterDelay:1.0]; } -(void)startAnimation { CABasicAnimation *animation = [CABasicAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"path"]; animation.duration = 2.0; animation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]; animation.repeatCount = 1e100f; animation.autoreverses = YES; animation.fromValue = (id)pentagonPath; animation.toValue = (id)starPath; [shapeLayer addAnimation:animation forKey:@"animatePath"]; } Note this lines, where I just make straight lines with a small peak which is animated: //Pentagon Path pentagonPath = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathMoveToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 10.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 100.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 110.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 120.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 130.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(pentagonPath, nil, 310.0f, 270.0f); //CGPathCloseSubpath(pentagonPath); //Star Path starPath = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathMoveToPoint(starPath, nil, 10.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(starPath, nil, 100.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(starPath, nil, 210.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(starPath, nil, 220.0f, 260.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(starPath, nil, 230.0f, 270.0f); CGPathAddLineToPoint(starPath, nil, 310.0f, 270.0f); I don't want a closed and filled path, but only simple lines with some color and thickness. The nasty thing on the device is, that the first point seems to move towards the right side of the screen for no reason. On the simulator though, it works perfectly fine. Maybe something is wrong with this setup?

  • Draw a Custom cell for tableview ( uitableview ) , with changed colors and separator color and width

    - by Madhup
    Hi, I want to draw the background of a UITableViewCell which has a grouped style. The problem with me is I am not able to call the -(void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect or I think it should be called programmatically... I tried and fought with code but could get any results. Please help me out. I am really having no idea how this code will run.

  • accessing layer from class

    - by Mike
    I am creating a rounded corner UIImageView, but this image is created inside a class, using among other instructions, these following: myImageView.layer.cornerRadius = 20.0; myImageView.layer.masksToBounds = YES; myImageView.layer.borderColor = [UIColor darkGrayColor].CGColor; myImageView.layer.borderWidth = 1.0; but Xcode is yelling at me telling me unknown 'cornerRadius' component of a property unknown 'masksToBounds' component of a property unknown 'borderColor' component of a property unknown 'borderWidth' component of a property I know this code is valid, because I have created images like that before, but never inside a class. Why is this happening? how to solve that? thanks.

  • UIButton not firing selector if I draw it using CALayer

    - by Horatiu Paraschiv
    Hi everybody I create this button like this: _myButton = [[UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom] retain]; DLBadgeLayerDelegate *layerDelegate = [[DLBadgeLayerDelegate alloc] init]; _myButton.frame = CGRectMake(0.0 , 0.0, 100.0, 100.0); [_myButton addTarget:self action:@selector(myButtonTapped:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; _myButton.layer.backgroundColor = [[UIColor redColor] CGColor]; _myButton.center = CGPointMake(10.0, 10.0); [self addSubview:_myButton]; [_myButton release]; The button appears on the screen but if I tap on it nothing happens. If I just create a Rounded rect button instead with no custom drawing on its layer or if I just leave the layer line of code out all works well. Do you have any Idea why do I get this behaviour as I would like to do some custom drawing in the button's layer?

  • change fillColor of selected CAShapeLayer

    - by Frank
    I'm trying to change the fillColor of a CAShapeLayer when the layer it's contained in is touched. I'm able to change the background color of the tapped layer like this: -(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { CALayer *layer = [(CALayer *)self.view.layer.presentationLayer hitTest:point]; layer = layer.modelLayer; layer.backgroundColor = [UIColor blueColor].CGColor; } This turns the background of "layer" blue as expected. My problem is how do I change the color of the CAShapelayer inside "layer"? Thanks!

  • How can I call the iPhone to draw using other method?

    - by Tattat
    I have a view with a class called "drawingViewController", and I have the drawRect method: - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 2.0); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, [UIColor redColor].CGColor); CGContextMoveToPoint(context, 0.0f, 0.0f); CGContextAddLineToPoint(context, 100.0f, 100.0f); CGContextStrokePath(context); } But I wanna to define some other drawing method, but it did't work, how can I do so apart from calling drawRect method? thz in advance.

  • draw ios quartz 2d path with a varying alpha component

    - by Giovanni
    Hi, I'd like to paint some Bezier curves with the alpha channel that is changing during the curve painting. Right now I'm able to draw bezier paths, with a fixed alpha channel. What I'd like to do is to draw a single bezier curve that uses a certain value of the alpha channel for the first n points of the path another, alpha value for the subsequent m points and so on. The code I'm using for drawing bezier path is: CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, curva.color.CGColor); .... CGContextAddCurveToPoint(context, cp1.x, cp1.y, cp2.x, cp2.y, endPoint.x, endPoint.y); .... CGContextStrokePath(context); Is there a way to achieve what I'm describing? Many thanks, Giovanni

  • CGContextShowTextAtPoint: invalid context

Here is my code -(void) handleTimer: (NSTimer *)timer { CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 2.0); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, currentColor.CGColor); CGContextTranslateCTM(context, 145.0, 240.0); CGContextScaleCTM(context, 1.0, -1.0); CGContextSelectFont(context, "Arial", 18, kCGEncodingMacRoman); CGContextSetCharacterSpacing(context, 1); CGContextSetTextDrawingMode(context, kCGTextFillStroke); CGContextSetRGBStrokeColor(context, 0.5,0.5,1,1); CGContextShowTextAtPoint(context, 100, 100, "01", 2); } But after 5 seconds when this method is called i am getting this error CGContextShowTextAtPoint: invalid context Another thing is how to show a thinner font?

  • Getting invalid context errors

    - by Andrew
    I don't have much code thus far, only this to start: UIGraphicsBeginImageContextWithOptions(bounds.size, NO, 0); CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); CGMutablePathRef outerPath; CGMutablePathRef highlightPath; CGRect outerRect = rectForRectWithInset(bounds, 1); CGRect highlightRect = CGRectMake(outerRect.origin.x, outerRect.origin.y + 1, outerRect.size.width, outerRect.size.height); And then the problematic bit, which when commented out, the error goes away: CGContextSaveGState(context); CGContextAddPath(context, highlightPath); CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(context, [[UIColor colorWithWhite:1.0 alpha:0.05]CGColor]); CGContextFillPath(context); CGContextRestoreGState(context); Below that is simply: UIImage *image = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext();

  • Will it use more and more memory if I keep drawing on the UIView?

My UIView will have many lines on that. Will it use more memory than only just one line on it? Er... ...I mean, will the program remember the line I draw or after it draw the lines, it won't have any information in the memory. thz .

  • Add shadow to UIImage drawn in rounded path

    - by Tom Irving
    I'm drawing a rounded image in a UITableView cell like so: CGRect imageRect = CGRectMake(8, 8, 40, 40); CGFloat radius = 3; CGFloat minx = CGRectGetMinX(imageRect); CGFloat midx = CGRectGetMidX(imageRect); CGFloat maxx = CGRectGetMaxX(imageRect); CGFloat miny = CGRectGetMinY(imageRect); CGFloat midy = CGRectGetMidY(imageRect); CGFloat maxy = CGRectGetMaxY(imageRect); CGContextMoveToPoint(context, minx, midy); CGContextAddArcToPoint(context, minx, miny, midx, miny, radius); CGContextAddArcToPoint(context, maxx, miny, maxx, midy, radius); CGContextAddArcToPoint(context, maxx, maxy, midx, maxy, radius); CGContextAddArcToPoint(context, minx, maxy, minx, midy, radius); CGContextClosePath(context); CGContextClip(context); [self.theImage drawInRect:imageRect]; This looks great, but I'd like to add a shadow to it for added effect. I've tried using something along the lines of: CGContextSetShadowWithColor(context, CGSizeMake(2, 2), 2, [[UIColor grayColor] CGColor]); CGContextFillPath(context); But this only works when the image has transparent areas, if the image isn't transparent at all, it won't even draw a shadow around the border. I'm wondering if there is something I'm doing wrong?

  • Blind down animation on CALayer using a mask

    - by dgjones346
    Hi there, I want to create a "blind down" effect on an image so the image "blinds down" and appears. Sort of like this JavaScript transition: http://wiki.github.com/madrobby/scriptaculous/effect-blinddown The mask is setup correctly because if I manually change it's position it hides and reveals the image behind it, but it doesn't animate! It just ends up in the animates final position and you never see it actual blind. Please help! Maybe this isn't the best way to achieve a blind down effect? // create a new layer CALayer *numberLayer = [[CALayer alloc] init]; // render the number "7" on the layer UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"number-7.png"]; numberLayer.contents = (id) [image CGImage]; numberLayer.bounds = CGRectMake(0, 0, image.size.width, image.size.height); // width and height are 50 numberLayer.position = position; // create a new mask that is 50x50 the size of the image CAShapeLayer *maskLayer = [[CAShapeLayer alloc] init]; CGMutablePathRef path = CGPathCreateMutable(); CGPathAddRect(path, nil, CGRectMake(0, 0, 50, 50)); [maskLayer setPath:path]; [maskLayer setFillColor:[[UIColor whiteColor] CGColor]]; [theLayer setMask:maskLayer]; [maskLayer setPosition:CGPointMake(0, 0)]; // place the mask over the image [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:3.0]; [maskLayer setPosition:CGPointMake(0, 50)]; // slide mask off the image // this should shift the blind away in an animation // but it doesn't animate [UIView commitAnimations]; [maskLayer release]; [boardLayer addSublayer:numberLayer]; [numberLayer release];

  • Iphone CATextLayer doesn't show it's text.

    - by lovecactus
    Here is my new bee issue: I was simply trying to add a CATextlayer in an UIView layer. However, according to the following code, I only get the CATextlayer's background color be displayed in the UIView, without any text. Just wonder what did I missed to display the text. Could anyone ofter a hint/sample how to use CATextlayer? Thanks. I created an empty Cocoa app on Xcode for OS X, and added: - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(NSNotification *)aNotification { self.view = [[NSView alloc] initWithFrame:NSMakeRect(100, 100, 200, 200)]; self.view.wantsLayer = YES; self.view.layer = [CALayer layer]; self.view.layer.backgroundColor = [[NSColor yellowColor] CGColor]; self.view.layer.anchorPoint = CGPointMake(0.5, 0.5); self.view.layer.transform = CATransform3DMakeRotation(30 * M_PI / 180, 1, 1, 1); [self.window.contentView addSubview:self.view]; } But the rotated layer's background is clipped by the view's bounding area: I thought since some version of OS X and iOS, the view won't clip the content of its subviews and will show everything inside and outside? On iOS, I do see that behavior, but I wonder why it shows up like that and how to make everything show? (I am already using the most current Xcode 4.4.1 on Mountain Lion). (note: if you try the code above, you will need to link to Quartz Core, and possibly import the quartz core header, although I wonder why I didn't import the header and it still compiles perfectly)

  • Function should return float, but it gets messed up!

    - by Andre
    Hi guys, I'm going crazy here. I have a function that should return a float number: - (float) getHue:(UIColor *)original { NSLog(@"getHue"); const CGFloat *componentColors = CGColorGetComponents(original.CGColor); float red = componentColors[0]; float green = componentColors[1]; float blue = componentColors[2]; float h = 0.0f; float maxChannel = fmax(red, fmax(green, blue)); float minChannel = fmin(red, fmin(green, blue)); if (maxChannel == minChannel) h = 0.0f; else if (maxChannel == red) h = 0.166667f * (green - blue) / (maxChannel - minChannel) + 0.000000f; else if (maxChannel == green) h = 0.166667f * (blue - red) / (maxChannel - minChannel) + 0.333333f; else if (maxChannel == blue) h = 0.166667f * (red - green) / (maxChannel - minChannel) + 0.666667f; else h = 0.0f; if (h < 0.0f) h += 1.0f; NSLog(@"getHue results: %f", h); return h; } The NSLog will trace it correctly (i.e: 0.005), but the actual return value of the function is NULL. I've tried getting that value in so many ways and it never works. float originalHue = [self getHue:original]; results in a building error, as it says: "incompatible types in initialization" float *originalHue = [self getHue:original]; results in a null return. I've tried other ways, but it never actually gets the value properly. Any thoughts? Cheers guys, Andre

  • drawRect gets called on UIView subclass but not on UIViewController

    - by HotFudgeSunday
    My code is working so far but I had to create a Class for the UIView. This is a bit inconvenient because I need to interact with the ViewController too. BTW, I did try [self setNeedsDisplay] on the ViewDidLoad of the UIViewController subclass file but it didn't work. Here's the code, which works on UIView Subclass but doesn't get called on a UIViewController one: - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { UIColor *currentColor = [UIColor redColor]; CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); someNum = 1; CGContextBeginPath(context); CGContextMoveToPoint(context, 30, 40); [self addDotImageX:30 andY:40]; CGContextSetLineWidth(context, 2); CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(context, currentColor.CGColor); CGContextStrokePath(context); } Any ideas on what to try? BTW, this is a TabBar App. I know those can somehow block the calls to drawRect. The Tabs where created programatically, not through a Nib. Eg: NSMutableArray *listOfViewControllers = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; UIViewController *vc; vc = [[Education alloc] init]; vc.title = @"Education"; [listOfViewControllers addObject:vc]; vc.tabBarItem.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"info.png"]; [vc release]; I would appreciate any ideas. I've been through the answers on this site related to setNeedsDisplay not calling drawRect and haven't found an answer for my particular case. Thanks.
