  • Suggestions for duplicate file finder algorithm (using C)

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    Hello, I wanted to write a program that test if two files are duplicates (have exactly the same content). First I test if the files have the same sizes, and if they have i start to compare their contents. My first idea, was to "split" the files into fixed size blocks, then start a thread for every block, fseek to startup character of every block and continue the comparisons in parallel. When a comparison from a thread fails, the other working threads are canceled, and the program exits out of the thread spawning loop. The code looks like this: dupf.h #ifndef __NM__DUPF__H__ #define __NM__DUPF__H__ #define NUM_THREADS 15 #define BLOCK_SIZE 8192 /* Thread argument structure */ struct thread_arg_s { const char *name_f1; /* First file name */ const char *name_f2; /* Second file name */ int cursor; /* Where to seek in the file */ }; typedef struct thread_arg_s thread_arg; /** * 'arg' is of type thread_arg. * Checks if the specified file blocks are * duplicates. */ void *check_block_dup(void *arg); /** * Checks if two files are duplicates */ int check_dup(const char *name_f1, const char *name_f2); /** * Returns a valid pointer to a file. * If the file (given by the path/name 'fname') cannot be opened * in 'mode', the program is interrupted an error message is shown. **/ FILE *safe_fopen(const char *name, const char *mode); #endif dupf.c #include <errno.h> #include <pthread.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/stat.h> #include <unistd.h> #include "dupf.h" FILE *safe_fopen(const char *fname, const char *mode) { FILE *f = NULL; f = fopen(fname, mode); if (f == NULL) { char emsg[255]; sprintf(emsg, "FOPEN() %s\t", fname); perror(emsg); exit(-1); } return (f); } void *check_block_dup(void *arg) { const char *name_f1 = NULL, *name_f2 = NULL; /* File names */ FILE *f1 = NULL, *f2 = NULL; /* Streams */ int cursor = 0; /* Reading cursor */ char buff_f1[BLOCK_SIZE], buff_f2[BLOCK_SIZE]; /* Character buffers */ int rchars_1, rchars_2; /* Readed characters */ /* Initializing variables from 'arg' */ name_f1 = ((thread_arg*)arg)->name_f1; name_f2 = ((thread_arg*)arg)->name_f2; cursor = ((thread_arg*)arg)->cursor; /* Opening files */ f1 = safe_fopen(name_f1, "r"); f2 = safe_fopen(name_f2, "r"); /* Setup cursor in files */ fseek(f1, cursor, SEEK_SET); fseek(f2, cursor, SEEK_SET); /* Initialize buffers */ rchars_1 = fread(buff_f1, 1, BLOCK_SIZE, f1); rchars_2 = fread(buff_f2, 1, BLOCK_SIZE, f2); if (rchars_1 != rchars_2) { /* fread failed to read the same portion. * program cannot continue */ perror("ERROR WHEN READING BLOCK"); exit(-1); } while (rchars_1-->0) { if (buff_f1[rchars_1] != buff_f2[rchars_1]) { /* Different characters */ fclose(f1); fclose(f2); pthread_exit("notdup"); } } /* Close streams */ fclose(f1); fclose(f2); pthread_exit("dup"); } int check_dup(const char *name_f1, const char *name_f2) { int num_blocks = 0; /* Number of 'blocks' to check */ int num_tsp = 0; /* Number of threads spawns */ int tsp_iter = 0; /* Iterator for threads spawns */ pthread_t *tsp_threads = NULL; thread_arg *tsp_threads_args = NULL; int tsp_threads_iter = 0; int thread_c_res = 0; /* Thread creation result */ int thread_j_res = 0; /* Thread join res */ int loop_res = 0; /* Function result */ int cursor; struct stat buf_f1; struct stat buf_f2; if (name_f1 == NULL || name_f2 == NULL) { /* Invalid input parameters */ perror("INVALID FNAMES\t"); return (-1); } if (stat(name_f1, &buf_f1) != 0 || stat(name_f2, &buf_f2) != 0) { /* Stat fails */ char emsg[255]; sprintf(emsg, "STAT() ERROR: %s %s\t", name_f1, name_f2); perror(emsg); return (-1); } if (buf_f1.st_size != buf_f2.st_size) { /* File have different sizes */ return (1); } /* Files have the same size, function exec. is continued */ num_blocks = (buf_f1.st_size / BLOCK_SIZE) + 1; num_tsp = (num_blocks / NUM_THREADS) + 1; cursor = 0; for (tsp_iter = 0; tsp_iter < num_tsp; tsp_iter++) { loop_res = 0; /* Create threads array for this spawn */ tsp_threads = malloc(NUM_THREADS * sizeof(*tsp_threads)); if (tsp_threads == NULL) { perror("TSP_THREADS ALLOC FAILURE\t"); return (-1); } /* Create arguments for every thread in the current spawn */ tsp_threads_args = malloc(NUM_THREADS * sizeof(*tsp_threads_args)); if (tsp_threads_args == NULL) { perror("TSP THREADS ARGS ALLOCA FAILURE\t"); return (-1); } /* Initialize arguments and create threads */ for (tsp_threads_iter = 0; tsp_threads_iter < NUM_THREADS; tsp_threads_iter++) { if (cursor >= buf_f1.st_size) { break; } tsp_threads_args[tsp_threads_iter].name_f1 = name_f1; tsp_threads_args[tsp_threads_iter].name_f2 = name_f2; tsp_threads_args[tsp_threads_iter].cursor = cursor; thread_c_res = pthread_create( &tsp_threads[tsp_threads_iter], NULL, check_block_dup, (void*)&tsp_threads_args[tsp_threads_iter]); if (thread_c_res != 0) { perror("THREAD CREATION FAILURE"); return (-1); } cursor+=BLOCK_SIZE; } /* Join last threads and get their status */ while (tsp_threads_iter-->0) { void *thread_res = NULL; thread_j_res = pthread_join(tsp_threads[tsp_threads_iter], &thread_res); if (thread_j_res != 0) { perror("THREAD JOIN FAILURE"); return (-1); } if (strcmp((char*)thread_res, "notdup")==0) { loop_res++; /* Closing other threads and exiting by condition * from loop. */ while (tsp_threads_iter-->0) { pthread_cancel(tsp_threads[tsp_threads_iter]); } } } free(tsp_threads); free(tsp_threads_args); if (loop_res > 0) { break; } } return (loop_res > 0) ? 1 : 0; } The function works fine (at least for what I've tested). Still, some guys from #C (freenode) suggested that the solution is overly complicated, and it may perform poorly because of parallel reading on hddisk. What I want to know: Is the threaded approach flawed by default ? Is fseek() so slow ? Is there a way to somehow map the files to memory and then compare them ?

  • Connect from java mobile application to webservice to read messages.

    - by Alexandru Trandafir Catalin
    Hello, I have a website where users can send personal messages between them, now I want them to recieve the messages also on their mobile phone but without having to send them a SMS. I am thinking about providing them with a mobile phone with internet access over GPRS or 3G, then develop a Java application that will connect to the website and retrieve the messages. On the website I am thinking to make a webservice where the phone will login, get new messages, and also be able to answer back to messages. Does anyone know any mobile application tutorial that will do that? Or do you recommend me where to start? I never done a java mobile application before, I only work with websites and PHP. I also tried to use ICQ, the client is already done for java and for iphone, and I've also found a script that will send ICQ messages from PHP, but ICQ server bans you for 20 minutes when you do many reconnections, so I have to develop some kind of ICQ bot always online that will check for new messages to send from the mySQL database and then send them, one per 2-3 seconds, so the server won't ban me for flooding. Well any advice or recommendation is welcome about how to have users connected to the website messaging system from their phones. Thank you!

  • How do I mock memory allocation failures ?

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    I want to extensively test some pieces of C code for memory leaks. On my machine I have 4 Gb of RAM, so it's very unlikely for a dynamic memory allocation to fail. Still I want to see the comportment of the code if memory allocation fails, and see if the recover mechanism is "strong" enough. What do you suggest ? How do I emulate an environment with lower memory specs ? How do i mock my tests ? EDIT: I want my tests to be code independent. I only have "access" to return values for different functions in the library I am testing. I am not supposed to write "test logic" inside the code I am testing.

  • Superfish and Flash again. Please help

    - by alexandru.vladoiu
    Hello there, I know there's a lot about this issue but i'm embedding flash like this: (i don't know how t escape code so sorry if it looks weird) var flashvars = {} var params = { base: "." } var attributes = {} swfobject.embedSWF("http://www.zakochaniwfotografii.pl/html5/slideshow/ceremonia.swf", "flashcontent", "932", "450", "9.0.0", false, flashvars, params, attributes); and the flash appears in here div class="imageHolder" id="flashcontent" /div You can see all of it here: http://www.zakochaniwfotografii.pl/html5/fotografia-weselna.php I'm trying to setup my website but only Firefox displays this well. I solved the issue on my index page zakochaniwfotografii.pl/html5/ but here i am embeding flash differently due to a different gallery, so i cannot do it the same on the underpages. I'd appreciate your help, Thank you.

  • Windows store apps: ScrollViewer with dinamic content

    - by Alexandru Circus
    I have a scrollViewer with an ItemsControl (which holds rows with data) as content. The data from these rows is grabbed from the server so I want to display a ProgressRing with a text until the data arrives. Basically I want the content of the ScrollViewer to be a grid with progress ring and a text and after the data arrives the content to be changed with my ItemsControl. The problem is that the ScrollViewer does not accept more than 1 element as content. Please tell me how can I solve this problem. (I'm a C# beginner) <FlipView x:Name="OptionPagesFlipView" Grid.Row="1" TabNavigation="Cycle" SelectionChanged="OptionPagesFlipView_SelectionChanged" ItemsSource="{Binding OptionsPageItems}"> <FlipView.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Name="OptionMonthPageTemplate"> <ScrollViewer x:Name="OptionsScrollViewer" HorizontalScrollMode="Disabled" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto"> <ItemsControl x:Name="OptionItemsControl" ItemsSource="{Binding OptionItems, Mode=OneWay}" Visibility="Collapsed"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate x:Name="OptionsChainItemTemplate"> <Grid x:Name="OptionItemGrid" Background="#FF9DBDF7" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <!-- CALL BID --> <TextBlock Text="Bid" Foreground="Gray" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" FontSize="18" Margin="5,0,5,0"/> <TextBlock x:Name="CallBidTextBlock" Text="{Binding CallBid}" Foreground="Blue" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Margin="5,0,5,5" FontSize="18"/> <!-- CALL ASK --> <TextBlock Text="Ask" Foreground="Gray" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="0" FontSize="18" Margin="5,0,5,0"/> <TextBlock x:Name="CallAskTextBlock" Text="{Binding CallAsk}" Foreground="Blue" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Grid.Row="3" Grid.Column="0" Margin="5,0,5,0" FontSize="18"/> <!-- CALL LAST --> <TextBlock Text="Last" Foreground="Gray" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" FontSize="18" Margin="5,0,5,0"/> <TextBlock x:Name="CallLastTextBlock" Text="{Binding CallLast}" Foreground="Blue" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" Margin="5,0,5,5" FontSize="18"/> <!-- CALL NET CHANGE --> <TextBlock Text="Net Ch" Foreground="Gray" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="1" FontSize="18" Margin="5,0,5,0"/> <TextBlock x:Name="CallNetChTextBlock" Text="{Binding CallNetChange}" Foreground="{Binding CallNetChangeForeground}" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Grid.Row="3" Grid.Column="1" Margin="5,0,5,5" FontSize="18"/> <!-- STRIKE --> <TextBlock Text="Strike" Foreground="Gray" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="2" FontSize="18" Margin="5,0,5,0"/> <Border Background="{Binding StrikeBackground}" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="2" Margin="5,0,5,5"> <TextBlock x:Name="StrikeTextBlock" Text="{Binding Strike}" Foreground="Blue" FontSize="18"/> </Border> <!-- PUT LAST --> <TextBlock Text="Last" Foreground="Gray" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="3" FontSize="18" Margin="5,0,5,0"/> <TextBlock x:Name="PutLastTextBlock" Text="{Binding PutLast}" Foreground="Blue" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="3" Margin="5,0,5,5" FontSize="18"/> <!-- PUT NET CHANGE --> <TextBlock Text="Net Ch" Foreground="Gray" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="3" FontSize="18" Margin="5,0,5,0"/> <TextBlock x:Name="PutNetChangeTextBlock" Text="{Binding PutNetChange}" Foreground="{Binding PutNetChangeForeground}" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Grid.Row="3" Grid.Column="3" Margin="5,0,5,5" FontSize="18"/> <!-- PUT BID --> <TextBlock Text="Bid" Foreground="Gray" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="4" FontSize="18" Margin="5,0,15,0"/> <TextBlock x:Name="PutBidTextBlock" Text="{Binding PutBid}" Foreground="Blue" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="4" Margin="5,0,15,5" FontSize="18"/> <!-- PUT ASK --> <TextBlock Text="Ask" Foreground="Gray" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="4" FontSize="18" Margin="5,0,15,0"/> <TextBlock x:Name="PutAskTextBlock" Text="{Binding PutAsk}" Foreground="Blue" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Grid.Row="3" Grid.Column="4" Margin="5,0,15,5" FontSize="18"/> <!-- BOTTOM LINE SEPARATOR--> <Rectangle Fill="Black" Height="1" Grid.ColumnSpan="5" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Grid.Row="3"/> </Grid> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> <!--<Grid> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ProgressRing x:Name="CustomProgressRing" Height="40" Width="40" IsActive="true" Grid.Column="0" Margin="20" Foreground="White"/> <TextBlock x:Name="CustomTextBlock" Height="auto" Width="auto" FontSize="25" Grid.Column="1" Margin="20"/> <Border BorderBrush="#FFFFFF" BorderThickness="1" Grid.ColumnSpan="2"/> </Grid>--> </ScrollViewer> </DataTemplate> </FlipView.ItemTemplate>

  • C system calls open / read / write / close problem.

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    Hello, given the following code (it's supposed to write "hellowolrd" in a "helloworld" file, and then read the text): #include <fcntl.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/stat.h> #define FNAME "helloworld" int main(){ int filedes, nbytes; char buf[128]; /* Creates a file */ if((filedes=open(FNAME, O_CREAT | O_EXCL | O_WRONLY | O_APPEND, S_IRUSR | S_IWUSR)) == -1){ write(2, "Error1\n", 7); } /* Writes hellow world to file */ if(write(filedes, FNAME, 10) != 10) write(2, "Error2\n", 7); /* Close file */ close(filedes); if((filedes = open(FNAME, O_RDONLY))==-1) write(2, "Error3\n", 7); /* Prints file contents on screen */ if((nbytes=read(filedes, buf, 128)) == -1) write(2, "Error4\n", 7); if(write(1, buf, nbytes) != nbytes) write(2, "Error5\n", 7); /* Close rile afte read */ close(filedes); return (0); } The first time i run the program, the output is: helloworld After that every time I to run the program, the output is: Error1 Error2 helloworld I don't understand why the text isn't appended, as I've specified the O_APPEND file. Is it because I've included O_CREAT ? It the file is already created, shouldn't O_CREAT be ignored ?

  • Changing the title of a MFMailComposeViewController

    - by Badescu Alexandru
    Although i know changing MFMailComposeViewController is fround upon, i'm taking a risk. I found some ideas such as [self presentModalViewController:controller animated:YES]; // Existing line [[[[controller viewControllers] lastObject] navigationItem] setTitle:@"SomethingElse"]; and [[[[(MFMailComposeViewController*)vc navigationBar] items] objectAtIndex:0] setTitle:@" SomethingElse"]; but the odd thing is that the title is "SomethingElse" for like 2 seconds and after that it returns to the subject that is set. I've tried other solutions as well but the same output. I am using SHK (ShareKit) to connect to social. Here is the code from showViewController : if ([vc respondsToSelector:@selector(modalPresentationStyle)]) vc.modalPresentationStyle = [SHK modalPresentationStyle]; if ([vc respondsToSelector:@selector(modalTransitionStyle)]) vc.modalTransitionStyle = [SHK modalTransitionStyle]; [topViewController presentModalViewController:vc animated:YES]; [[[[(MFMailComposeViewController*)vc navigationBar] items] objectAtIndex:0] setTitle:@" "]; [(UINavigationController *)vc navigationBar].barStyle = [(UINavigationController *)vc toolbar].barStyle = [SHK barStyle]; self.currentView = vc;

  • Help with data retrieval MACRO

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    Hello, given the following structure: struct nmslist_elem_s { nmptr data; struct nmslist_elem_s *next; }; typedef struct nmslist_elem_s nmslist_elem; Where: typedef void* nmptr; Is it possible to write a MACRO that retrieves the data from the element and cast it to the right type: MACRO(type, element) that expands to *((type*)element->data). For example for int, i would need something like this: *((int*)(element->data)) .

  • Passing parameter to pthread

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    Hello, i have the following code: #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <pthread.h> #define NUM_THREADS 100 struct thread_param { char *f1; char *f2; int x; }; void *thread_function(void *arg){ printf("%d\n", ((struct thread_param*)arg)->x); } int main(int argc, char *argvs[]){ int i, thread_cr_res = 0; pthread_t *threads; threads = malloc(100 * sizeof(*threads)); if(threads == NULL){ fprintf(stderr,"MALLOC THREADS ERROR"); return (-1); } for(i = 0; i < NUM_THREADS; i++){ struct thread_param *tp; if((tp = malloc(sizeof(*tp))) == NULL){ fprintf(stderr,"MALLOC THREAD_PARAM ERROR"); return (-1); } tp->f1 = "f1"; tp->f2 = "f2"; tp->x = i; thread_cr_res = pthread_create(&threads[i], NULL, thread_function, (void*)tp); if(thread_cr_res != 0){ fprintf(stderr,"THREAD CREATE ERROR"); return (-1); } } return (0); } What i want to achieve, is to print all the numbers from 0 to 99, from threads. Also i am experimenting a way to pass a structure as a thread input parameter. What i am finding curios, is that not all the numbers are shown, eg: ./a.out | grep 9 9 19 29 39 49 And sometimes some numbers are shown twice: ... 75 74 89 77 78 79 91 91 Can you please explain me why is this happening ? No errors are shown.

  • JavaSript / CSS: Get the size in 'px' instead of percents.

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    Hello, I have to write a javascript function that is returning the current size (in px) of a div. Unfortunately the div has its weight specified in % instead of px. The style of the div: position: absolute; width: 100%; height: 100%; And my width returning function: function getTableWidth(tableId){ var tabWidth = document.getElementById('pt1::tabb').children[0].children[0].style.width; return tabWidth; } tabWidth is '100%'. Is it possible to return the px width instead of the % width ? NOTE: I don't have access to any html/css , as the page I am working on is generated through a complex framework. I can only embed javascript.

I was wondering if it's possible to format my logs to look somthing like this: [level] [dd:MM:YYYY] [hh:mm:ss] message The logger should also be able to print the messages into the System.out and into a file ? Where should I look for this functionality ? Can you please give me some code snippets ?

  • What's the C strategy to "imitate" a C++ template ?

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    After reading some examples on stackoverflow, and following some of the answers for my previous questions (1), I've eventually come with a "strategy" for this. I've come to this: 1) Have a declare section in the .h file. Here I will define the data-structure, and the accesing interface. Eg.: /** * LIST DECLARATION. (DOUBLE LINKED LIST) */ #define NM_TEMPLATE_DECLARE_LIST(type) \ typedef struct nm_list_elem_##type##_s { \ type data; \ struct nm_list_elem_##type##_s *next; \ struct nm_list_elem_##type##_s *prev; \ } nm_list_elem_##type ; \ typedef struct nm_list_##type##_s { \ unsigned int size; \ nm_list_elem_##type *head; \ nm_list_elem_##type *tail; \ int (*cmp)(const type e1, const type e2); \ } nm_list_##type ; \ \ nm_list_##type *nm_list_new_##type##_(int (*cmp)(const type e1, \ const type e2)); \ \ (...other functions ...) 2) Wrap the functions in the interface inside MACROS: /** * LIST INTERFACE */ #define nm_list(type) \ nm_list_##type #define nm_list_elem(type) \ nm_list_elem_##type #define nm_list_new(type,cmp) \ nm_list_new_##type##_(cmp) #define nm_list_delete(type, list, dst) \ nm_list_delete_##type##_(list, dst) #define nm_list_ins_next(type,list, elem, data) \ nm_list_ins_next_##type##_(list, elem, data) (...others...) 3) Implement the functions: /** * LIST FUNCTION DEFINITIONS */ #define NM_TEMPLATE_DEFINE_LIST(type) \ nm_list_##type *nm_list_new_##type##_(int (*cmp)(const type e1, \ const type e2)) \ {\ nm_list_##type *list = NULL; \ list = nm_alloc(sizeof(*list)); \ list->size = 0; \ list->head = NULL; \ list->tail = NULL; \ list->cmp = cmp; \ }\ void nm_list_delete_##type##_(nm_list_##type *list, \ void (*destructor)(nm_list_elem_##type elem)) \ { \ type data; \ while(nm_list_size(list)){ \ data = nm_list_rem_##type(list, tail); \ if(destructor){ \ destructor(data); \ } \ } \ nm_free(list); \ } \ (...others...) In order to use those constructs, I have to create two files (let's call them templates.c and templates.h) . In templates.h I will have to NM_TEMPLATE_DECLARE_LIST(int), NM_TEMPLATE_DECLARE_LIST(double) , while in templates.c I will need to NM_TEMPLATE_DEFINE_LIST(int) , NM_TEMPLATE_DEFINE_LIST(double) , in order to have the code behind a list of ints, doubles and so on, generated. By following this strategy I will have to keep all my "template" declarations in two files, and in the same time, I will need to include templates.h whenever I need the data structures. It's a very "centralized" solution. Do you know other strategy in order to "imitate" (at some point) templates in C++ ? Do you know a way to improve this strategy, in order to keep things in more decentralized manner, so that I won't need the two files: templates.c and templates.h ?

  • How to get the size of a binary tree ?

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    I have a very simple binary tree structure, something like: struct nmbintree_s { unsigned int size; int (*cmp)(const void *e1, const void *e2); void (*destructor)(void *data); nmbintree_node *root; }; struct nmbintree_node_s { void *data; struct nmbintree_node_s *right; struct nmbintree_node_s *left; }; Sometimes i need to extract a 'tree' from another and i need to get the size to the 'extracted tree' in order to update the size of the initial 'tree' . I was thinking on two approaches: 1) Using a recursive function, something like: unsigned int nmbintree_size(struct nmbintree_node* node) { if (node==NULL) { return(0); } return( nmbintree_size(node->left) + nmbintree_size(node->right) + 1 ); } 2) A preorder / inorder / postorder traversal done in an iterative way (using stack / queue) + counting the nodes. What approach do you think is more 'memory failure proof' / performant ? Any other suggestions / tips ? NOTE: I am probably going to use this implementation in the future for small projects of mine. So I don't want to unexpectedly fail :).

    Trying to build some bot for clicking "skip-ad" button on a page. So far, i manage to use Mechanize to load a web-driver browser and to connect to some page but Mechanize module do not support js directly so now i need something like Selenium if i understand correct. I am also a beginner in programming so please be specific. How can i use Selenium or if there is any other solution, please explain details. This is the inner html code for the button: <a id="skip-ad" class="btn btn-inverse" onclick="open_url('http://imgur.com/gallery/tDK9V68', 'go'); return false;" style="font-weight: bold; " target="_blank" href="http://imgur.com/gallery/tDK9V68"> … </a> And this is my source so far: #!/usr/bin/python # FILENAME: test.py import mechanize import os, time from random import choice, randrange prox_list = [] #list of common UAS to apply to each connection attempt to impersonate browsers user_agent_strings = [ 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/28.0.1468.0 Safari/537.36', 'Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008071615 Fedora/3.0.1-1.fc9 Firefox/3.0.1', 'Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.0) Presto/2.12.388 Version/12.14', 'Opera/9.80 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6.8; U; fr) Presto/2.9.168 Version/11.52', 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:23.0) Gecko/20131011 Firefox/23.0', 'Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/5.0; SLCC2; Media Center PC 6.0; InfoPath.3; MS-RTC LM 8; Zune 4.7', 'Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; Trident/5.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; SLCC2; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; Zune 4.0; Tablet PC 2.0; InfoPath.3; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E)', 'Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.6; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/5.0; InfoPath.2; SLCC1; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 2.0.50727) 3gpp-gba UNTRUSTED/1.0', 'Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 9.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/5.0; chromeframe/11.0.696.57)', 'Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/4.0; InfoPath.1; SV1; .NET CLR 3.8.36217; WOW64; en-US)', 'Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; GTB7.4; InfoPath.2; SV1; .NET CLR 3.3.69573; WOW64; en-US)' ] def load_proxy_list(target): #loads and parses the proxy list file = open(target, 'r') count = 0 for line in file: prox_list.append(line) count += 1 print "Loaded " + str(count) + " proxies!" load_proxy_list('proxies.txt') #for i in range(1,(len(prox_list) - 1)): # depreceated for overloading for i in range(1,30): br = mechanize.Browser() #pick a random UAS to add some extra cover to the bot br.addheaders = [('User-agent', choice(user_agent_strings))] print "----------------------------------------------------" #This is bad internet ethics br.set_handle_robots(False) #choose a proxy proxy = choice(prox_list) br.set_proxies({"http": proxy}) br.set_debug_http(True) try: print "Trying connection with: " + str(proxy) #currently using: BTC CoinURL - Grooveshark Broadcast br.open("http://cur.lv/4czwj") print "Opened successfully!" #act like a nice little drone and view the ads sleep_time_on_link = randrange(17.0,34.0) time.sleep(sleep_time_on_link) except mechanize.HTTPError, e: print "Oops Request threw " + str(e.code) #future versions will handle codes properly, 404 most likely means # the ad-linker has noticed bot-traffic and removed the link # or the used proxy is terrible.   • Function overloading in C

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    Today, looking at the man page for open(), I've noticed this function is 'overloaded': int open(const char *pathname, int flags); int open(const char *pathname, int flags, mode_t mode); I didn't thought it's possible on C. What's the 'trick' for achieving this ?

  • Should I consider memmove() O(n) or O(1) ?

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    Hello, this may be a silly question, but I want to calculate the complexity of one of my algorithms, and I am not sure what complexity to consider for the memmove() function. Can you please help / explain ? void * memmove ( void * destination, const void * source, size_t num ); So is the complexity O(num) or O(1). I suppose it's O(num), but I am not sure as I lack for now the understanding of what's going on under the hood.

  • What the best approach to iterate and "store" files over a directory in C (Linux) ?

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    I have written a function that checks if to files are duplicates or not. This function signature is: int check_dup_memmap(char *f1_name, char *f2_name) It returns: (-1) - If something went wrong; (0) - If the two files are similar; (+1) - If the two files are different; The next step is to write a function that iterates through all the files in a certain directory,apply the previous function, and gives a report on every existing duplicates. Initially I've thought to write a function that generates a file with all the filenames in a certain directory and then, read that file again and gain and compare every two files. Here is that version of the function, that gets all the filenames in a certain directory. void *build_dir_tree(char *dirname, FILE *f) { DIR *cdir = NULL; struct dirent *ent = NULL; struct stat buf; if(f == NULL){ fprintf(stderr, "NULL file submitted. [build_dir_tree].\n"); exit(-1); } if(dirname == NULL){ fprintf(stderr, "NULL dirname submitted. [build_dir_tree].\n"); exit(-1); } if((cdir = opendir(dirname)) == NULL){ char emsg[MFILE_LEN]; sprintf(emsg, "Cannot open dir: %s [build_dir_tree]\t",dirname); perror(emsg); } chdir(dirname); while ((ent = readdir(cdir)) != NULL) { lstat(ent->d_name, &buf); if (S_ISDIR(buf.st_mode)) { if (strcmp(".", ent->d_name) == 0 || strcmp("..", ent->d_name) == 0) { continue; } build_dir_tree(ent->d_name, f); } else{ fprintf(f, "/%s/%s\n",util_get_cwd(),ent->d_name); } } chdir(".."); closedir(cdir); } Still I consider this approach a little inefficient, as I have to parse the file again and again. In your opinion what are other approaches should I follow: Write a datastructure and hold the files instead of writing them in the file ? I think for a directory with a lot of files, the memory will become very fragmented. Hold all the filenames in auto-expanding array, so that I can easy access every file by their index, because they will in a contiguous memory location. Map this file in memory using mmap() ? But mmap may fail, as the file gets to big. Any opinions on this. I want to choose the most efficient path, and access as few resources as possible. This is the requirement of the program... EDIT: Is there a way to get the numbers of files in a certain directory, without iterating through it ?

  • Returning pointer to a certain value in a macro?

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    Is it possible to write a macro that has a type and a value as its input parameters (MACRO(type,value)), and returns a valid pointer to a location that holds the submitted value. This macro should perform like the following function, but in a more generic manner: int *val_to_ptr(int val){ int *r = NULL; r = nm_malloc(sizeof(*r)); *r = val; return r; } Where nm_malloc() is a failsafe malloc. The Macro usage should be compatible with this usage: printf("%d",*MACRO(int,5)); Is it possible to achieve that ?

  • How to write a "thread safe" function in C ?

    - by Andrei Ciobanu
    Hello I am writing some data structures in C, and I've realized that their associated functions aren't thread safe. The i am writing code uses only standard C, and I want to achieve some sort of 'synchronization'. I was thinking to do something like this: enum sync_e { TRUE, FALSE }; typedef enum sync_e sync; struct list_s { //Other stuff struct list_node_s *head; struct list_node_s *tail; enum sync_e locked; }; typedef struct list_s list; , to include a "boolean" field in the list structure that indicates the structures state: locked, unlocked. For example an insertion function will be rewritten this way: int list_insert_next(list* l, list_node *e, int x){ while(l->locked == TRUE){ /* Wait */ } l->locked = TRUE; /* Insert element */ /* -------------- */ l->locked = FALSE; return (0); } While operating on the list the 'locked' field will be set to TRUE, not allowing any other alterations. After operation completes the 'locked' field will be again set to 'TRUE'. Is this approach good ? Do you know other approaches (using only standard C).

  • Update database in asp.net not working

    - by Badescu Alexandru
    Hello ! i have in asp.net a few textboxes and i wish to update my database with the values that they encapsulate . The problem is that it doesn't work and although it doesn't work, the syntax seems correct and there are no errors present . Here is my linkbutton : <asp:linkbutton id="clickOnSave" runat="server" onclick="Save_Click" Text="Save Profile" /> and my update function protected void Save_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { SqlConnection con = new System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(); con.ConnectionString = "DataSource=.\\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:\\Users\\alex\\Documents\\seeubook_db.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"; con.Open(); String commandString = "UPDATE users SET last_name='" + Text4.Text.Trim() + "' , first_name='" + Textbox1.Text.Trim() + "' , about_me='" + Textbox5.Text.Trim() + "' , where_i_live='" + Textbox2.Text.Trim() + "' , where_i_was_born='" + Textbox3.Text.Trim() + "' , work_place='" + Textbox4.Text.Trim() + "' WHERE email='" + Session["user"] + "'"; SqlCommand sqlCmd = new SqlCommand(commandString, con); sqlCmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); con.Close(); }
