  • Clarity Comics Comic Reader for Windows Phone 7

Weve been really busy building all sorts custom Windows Phone 7 goodies lately.  One of the experiences weve been working on recently is a comic book reader  for WP7.  Here at Clarity we have particular individuals that are nuts about comics and codingso it was a no-brainer to knock this thing out.  Under the Covers There are a couple of components to this application that made it come together quickly.  First, as you know, WP7 runs Silverlight so we were able to leverage a bunch of silverlight assets we had hanging around from previous projects.  We were shocked to see the 80% code reuse claim was true!  Second, the application was built on the newly created Clarity Phone Framework (CP7).  This framework provides a platform that we can leverage to quickly wire up applications and get them out the door.  The framework includes gesture support, mapping controls, data visualization,  a special mvvm architecture for the phone, navigation animations, and a handful of other controls weve cooked up in our labslike voice recognition support.  (additional posts on the framework are coming soon) Third, the reading experience of the comic reader is driven by Deep Zoom.  We were pleasantly surprised to see that the windows phone 7 sdk worked nicely with Deep Zoom and the Deep Zoom composer.  We did have to add some hooks in there to get the gestures to work, but nothing too deep (no pun intended).  Unfortunately we cant release the code for this one just yet.  But rest-assured, there will be plenty more Windows Phone 7 and Silverlight goodies to come. Cheers!Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. • Create a AD-LDS partition under a child of the primary partition

    - by ixe013
I have a AD-LDS instance running on a Server 2008 R2. I have this application partition, created at installation : dc=enterprise,dc=example,dc=com I have succesfully followed this procedure to create application partitions. They are named : cn=stuff,dc=enterprise,dc=example,dc=com cn=things,dc=enterprise,dc=example,dc=com If I configure my client(s) to follow referals, I can search from dc=enterprise,dc=example,dc=com and find objects under cn=stuff and cn=things. How can I create (or move after the fact) the stuff and things partitions so they are logically located under a OU under the initial partition, ending up with something like : cn=stuff,ou=applications,dc=enterprise,dc=example,dc=com cn=things,ou=applications,dc=enterprise,dc=example,dc=com

  • Win2008 DC in a Windows 2000 domain: can I keep the old DC?

    - by gravyface
Will be putting a new Windows 2008 SE Server into a single domain network with two domain controllers, both running Windows 2000 Server. The functional level of the domain is mixed mode/2000. Until a second 2008 DC can be purchased, I'd like to leave the current Win2k operational master DC as a backup DC as the other member servers running 2003 have either accounting/SQL or Exchange on them. Eventually all the w2k servers will be decommissioned, but until then, I need another DC for redundancy. Following the standard process for adding a new DC, can I leave the old operational master DC (or the other backup DC) running after I transfer the FSMO roles to the new server? Will this cause any issues?

  • Install DC again after removing on exchange server

    - by Kawharu
I had a DC and Exchange 2010 installed on the same machine. I removed the DC role, and Exchange server went crazy. I tried to install the DC role again to fix the problem but ran into this error when running DCPROMO: Active Directory Domain Services could not create the NTDS Settings object for this Active Directory Domain Controller CN=NTDS Settings,CN=DC1,CN=Servers,CN=Manukau,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=AccessGroupnz,DC=com on the remote AD DC Server1.AccessGroupnz.com. Ensure the provided network credentials have sufficient permissions. "The DSA operation is unable to proceed because of a DNS lookup failure." Do you think I need to run this in an elevated command prompt, or change credentials somewhere to domain admin? Or is it something else?

  • SharePoint Saturday DC

    - by Mark Rackley
Wow… did you see this thing? 927 attendees? An exhibition hall full of vendors? 94 speakers? 100 sessions?? Insane is a word that comes to mind… SharePoint Saturday DC was definitely epic as far as SharePoint Saturdays go. I got to catch up with a lot of friends and make some new ones.  Met a couple of fans of the blog (hello ladies…;))  Did you know that people actually read this thing? I guess that means I need to stop putting so much garbage on here and more content. I’ll get right on that as soon as I find out how to add 6 hours to each day. Anyway, once again I did my “Wrapping Your Head Around the SharePoint Beast” session.  I tweaked it even more from Huntsville and presented to a packed room with some people sitting on the floor and standing in the aisles. It was a great crowd, very interactive and they seemed interested at least. Thank you guys so much for attending and please feel free to tell me of any suggestions you have to make the presentation better.  This is one of the presentations that will probably never die. Everyone beginning SharePoint development needs a good introduction and starting point. My goal is to make this THE session to see on the subject. So, a little interesting data about my class. Half of the room was brand new to SharePoint and only one person was using 2010. That tells me that this session still has legs and that 2007 isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.  I know my organization will be using 2007 for at least a couple more years. Oh yeah… the slide deck?  Here it is: SharePoint Saturday DC Slide Deck So, SharePoint Saturday was truly tremendous and if you weren’t there you missed out. @meetdux, @usher, and the rest of their crew did a spectacular job. You guys rock and are a huge asset to the community. Thanks for allowing me to speak. What’s up next for me?  I’m so glad you asked…. SHAREPOINT SATURDAY OZARKS IS JUNE 12TH! Although SharePoint Saturday Ozarks on June 12 in Harrison Arkansas will be a much more intimate event than DC, it promises to be a most memorable event. We’ve got over 30 speakers and sessions, some cool stuff to give away, and we’re going floating down the Buffalo River on the 13th. Let’s see you do THAT in DC.  :) Anyway, I hope to see you there and I would truly appreciate any help you can do to help publicize the event. We just got internet here in the hills and most people here are still looking for the “any” key….

  • share folder in server torrent daemon like in DC(Direct Connect )

    - by alex_bubuker
So my question: is it possible to share on a server torrent daemon/application a whole folder with films? I had expirience with DC(Direct Connect) applications and it worked well. I selected folder and exec command share == other people stared to download files from my computer. In my expirience with torrent application you should first create torrent file and then people can download file from you. So is there any torrent client/plugin for torrent client that DC-like behaviour become possible? If it is possible at all ... Thank you

  • Speaking at SQL Saturday 61 in Washington DC

    - by AllenMWhite
The organizers of SQL Saturday #61 in DC (actually Reston, VA) created an Advanced DBA/Dev track for their event, which I think is cool. Both of the presentations I'll be doing there on Saturday are in that track. (In fact, they're the first two sessions of the day.) The first, Automate Policy-Based Management using PowerShell will walk through the basics of Policy-Based Management, and then show you how to build PowerShell scripts to create and evaluate your policies. The second, Gather SQL Server...(read more)

  • X locks up with konqueror on comics.com

    - by retracile
If I browse to comics.com using konqueror under KDE on Fedora 11, X will, after a delay, lock up. The mouse will move, but no keyboard input is recognized, and the screen does not react to the mouse passing over objects on screen. I am able to ssh into the machine and issue shutdown -r now and have that work. The machine is a Dell XPS M1330 with Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c), and Fedora 11 is fully updated. Visiting the same site in Firefox does not cause a lockup. I am booting with nomodeset since it won't boot into X otherwise. I tried the other two accel options: EXA (still locks up) and XAA (X won't start). Any suggestions on how I can debug this? bugzilla

  • Demote 2003 DC from within Directory Services Restore Mode

    - by adam
We've had a child DC fail on us, and can't get into Windows on it as Directory Services is failing. A restore of the backed-up active directory hasn't worked due to a corruption, and so we've decided to demote the child DC and - for now - run AD from the PDC only. However, dcpromo /demote doesn't work from Safe Mode or Directory Services Restore Mode. We don't want to do a complete reinstall, as we have Exchange running on the child DC. Anyone know how (if?) we can demote the DC within safe mode or otherwise get into windows? Thanks

  • samba4 dc "network location cannot be reached"

    - by mitchell babies peters
to clear the air centos 6.4? (maybe 6.3) as the server, running samba 4.0.10, trying to add a windows 7 client that has connectivity to the server. this is what windows shouts as me as it mocks my dependence on network infrastructure. "the network location cannot be reached." i have access to the domain contoller (dc) im using the dc as the domain name server (dns) already, and the name is correctly resolving, and it is correctly forwarding outbound traffic. i have nothing but self taught experience with active directory(ad) so if i am missing something obvious, please shout it out, but keep the verbal abuse to a minimum. i checked samba4DC + my error and found nothing relevant to my issue, if i missed something please point me in that direction. the weekend is just starting as i write this so i probably wont be back on to check this post for a day or three, but i might because this mystery is killing me. i followed the samba4 as a dc guide here and i supplimented gaps with this i have tested kerberos, ntp, and set my DC as the clock to sync to in my windows client and it appears to be a very small fraction of a second off so that shouldn't be it. also, firewall and selinux are both off for testing. i have also tried disabling ipv6, and cleared the registry of ipv6 records (allegedly the default samba4 as a DC runs as windows server 2003 which allegedly does not support or tolerate the existence of ipv6, fair warning, i heard this on the internet so it is probably a lie) i have tried a few other things that i have forgotten because i have been doing this for a day and a half now. ideas welcome. suggestions for alternatives are also welcome, as long as they are free. i was given a budget of $0 dollars and told to implement active directory (no prior knowledge of active directory at that point).

  • Running 1 DC physically and a second virtually

    - by stead1984
I plan to create my first DC and forest on a physical server, then I want to run a second DC on a virtual server that will replicate the first DC. I understand that this will provide redundancy for AD that if the first domain controller went down the second would resume until the first is back online. Would this work and how?

  • Dual DC Time Service

    - by poconnor
I believe I'm having an issue with my Domain Controllers and Time Server. On my back up DC, I keep seeing a warning stating "The time service has stopped advertising as a time source because the local clock is not synchronized." Does this mean that my backup DC believes it's a Time Server? My PDC should be the time server and I have gone through setting up the PDC as the time server. I was not around for the original setup of the time server with the old PDC and Backup DC. But I believe the old PDC was the time server so I setup the new PDC as the new time server, when I decommissioned the old PDC. Is it possible that the Backup DC was setup as the time server and it still thinks it's suppose to be giving out time to everyone? Registry for PDC has NTP Registry for Backup has NT5D5 Results of w32tm /monitor Getting AD DC list for default domain... • Config Time Service on Server 2008 DC using Group Policy Only

    - by Ed Fries
I want to configure the Time Service using only GP in a Server 2008 R2 domain. I have created a GP as follows: Computer Config, Policies, Administrative Templates, System, Windows Time Policy: =Global Configuration Settings -Enabled w/ default settings. Computer Config, Policies, Administrative Templates, System, Windows Time Policy,Time Providers: =Configure Windows NTP Client -Enabled w/ default settings. =Enable Windows NTP Client -Enabled w/ default settings. =Enable Windows NTP Server -Enabled w/ default settings. The policy is linked, enforced and applied to Domain Controllers OU. The GP modeling results shows the policy is in effect on the DC (Single DC domain) and the DC is recognized as the PDC emulator. I have run gpupdate /force and logged off/on. The issue is that the DC shows the time source as internal. I understand I can force this at the cmd line using w32tm to set the peer but I would like to understand what is missing in the GP. The default NTP Client GP setting includes time.windows.com,0x9 as the source but it does not appear to be taking effect.

  • When one DC crashes, TFS 2012 stops working

    - by blizz
We have two Windows 2008 domain controllers. We installed the second DC only a few months ago. We also have a TFS 2012 server on the network. Today, when the older DC crashed, TFS stopped working completely. Local users received messages such as "You are not authorized to access ServerName\Collection". Remote users received messages such as "The server was used in your last session, but it might be offline or unreachable". So my question is, why did TFS not use the second, newer DC instead of just crashing along with the first DC?

  • Display root node of Hierarchical Tree using ADF - EJB DC

    - by arul.wilson(at)oracle.com
Displaying Employee (HR schema) records in Hierarchical Tree can be achieved in ADF-BC by creating custom VO and a Viewlink for displaying root node. This can be more easily done using  EJB-DC by just introducing a NamedQuery to get the root node. Here you go to get this scenario working.Create DB connection based on HR schema.Create Entity Bean from Employees Table.Add custom NamedQuery to Employees.java bean, this named query is responsible for fetching the root node (King in this example). @NamedQueries({  @NamedQuery(name = "Employees.findAll", query = "select o from Employees o"),  @NamedQuery(name = "Employees.findRootEmp", query = "select p from Employees p where p.employees is null")}) Create Stateless Session Bean and expose the Named Queries through the Session Facade.Create Datacontrol from SessionBean local interface.Create jspx page in ViewController project.Drop employeesFindRootEmp from Data Controls Palette as ADF Tree.Add employeesList as Tree level rule.Run page to see the hierarchical tree with root node as 'King'

  • Web API Presentation at DC DNUG

    - by Steve Michelotti
This Tuesday (July 19), I’ll be presenting the ASP.NET Web API at the DC DotNet Users Group. Abstract: Modern web applications have seen an explosion in Web API creation. Twitter, Facebook, Google, Azure, you name it – it is becoming essential to provide a Web API so that consumers can build applications and mashups on top of your services. Web 2.0 has shown a trend away from SOAP towards a REST architecture style. With the new ASP.NET Web API, Microsoft is now providing first-class support for HTTP services including tools to apply the richness of a REST architectural style. This demo heavy presentation will show how the new ASP.NET Web API will enable you to build rich HTTP services in a REST architectural style while leveraging custom media types, custom HTTP handlers, jQuery and more! The presentation will also cover new features of MVC 4 including Razor enhancements, Web Optimizations, and more.

  • Problems with LDAP auth in Apache, works only for one group

    - by tore-
Hi, I'm currently publishing some subversions repos within Apache: <Location /dev/> DAV svn SVNPath /opt/svn/repos/dev/ AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repo authentication" AuthBasicProvider ldap AuthzLDAPAuthoritative On AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=readonlyaccount,OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=now" AuthLDAPBindPassword readonlyaccountspassword AuthLDAPURL "ldap://invalid.domain:389/OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=domain?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=*)" Require ldap-group cn=dev,ou=SVN,DC=invalid,DC=domain </Location> This setup works great, but now we want to give an LDAP group read only access to our repo, then my apache config looks like this: <Location /dev/> DAV svn SVNPath /opt/svn/repos/dev/ AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repo authentication" AuthBasicProvider ldap AuthzLDAPAuthoritative On AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=readonlyaccount,OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=now" AuthLDAPBindPassword readonlyaccountspassword AuthLDAPURL "ldap://invalid.domain:389/OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=domain?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=*)" <Limit OPTIONS PROPFIND GET REPORT> Require ldap-group cn=dev-ro,ou=SVN,dc=invalid,dc=domain </Limit> <LimitExcept OPTIONS PROPFIND GET REPORT> Require ldap-group cn=dev-rw,ou=SVN,dc=invalid,dc=domain </LimitExcept> </Location> All of my user accounts is under: OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=domain All groups related to subversion is under: ou=SVN,dc=invalid,dc=domain The problem after modification, only users in the dev-ro LDAP group is able to authenticate. I know that authentication with LDAP works, since my apache logs show my usernames: 10.1.1.126 - tore [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 200 339 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (...)" 10.1.1.126 - - [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 401 501 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (...)" 10.1.1.126 - readonly [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 401 501 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (...) line = user in group dev-rw, 2. line is unauthenticated user, 3. line is unauthenticated user, authenticated as a user in group dev-ro So I think I've messed up my apache config.
