• What are the challenges of implementing an ERP system?

  When a company decides to rollout an ERP system as part of its core business processes they must consider and provide solutions for the following general challenges. It is important to note that this list is generic and that every ERP system that rolls out is as distinct as the companies that are trying to implement the system. Upper Management Support Reengineering Existing Business Process and Applications Integration of the ERP with other existing departmental applications Implementation Time Implementation Costs Employee Training I just recently read an article by Mano Billi called “What are the major challenges in implementing ERP? “ were he basically outlines the common challenges to implementing an ERP system within a company. He discusses items like Upper management support, altering existing systems, and how ERPs integrate with other independent systems. In addition, he also covers items on selecting a ERP vendor, ERP Consultants, and the effects of an ERP system on employees.  I personally think he did a create job of outlining common issues that can cause an ERP implementation to fail or not be as effective as it potentially could be if the challenges are not taken in to account appropriately.

• SDLC/Deployment/Documentation ERP/framework that minimizes developer misery

  I was wondering if there are favorite SDLC/Deployment/Documentation/Versioning ERP/frameworks that work with popular SDLC methodologies, such as Agile, that minimize developer exposure to what most programmer hate to do most -- PAPERWORK ? Often, release management is extremely inefficient and there is a lot of data duplication across documents that are required to accompany changes -- e.g. when submitting a deployment request, I must list all files and their revisions from source control -- but why is that necessary if every file revision I check in is pinned to a work order and a deployment request is just a list of work orders -- such info should be able to be pulled from the system automatically without me needing to extract it and report it. And then there is a backout plan -- well just do everything in reverse from what you did to deploy -- why do you need specific instructions? Similar applies for documentation... So I am curious if there is an overall, all-encompassing ERP that includes source control and minimizes paperwork by sharing centralized data across different documents (such as documentation being pulled from javadoc without needing to write it separately) associated with SDLC yet does not compromise structure and control over the code base and release management.

• What is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System?

  In order to understand what an Enterprise Resource Planning System is let us look at a classic American kids snack, the Rice Krispy Treat if we conceptually view the treat as a company’s internal applications as a whole.  Furthermore we can view a company’s departmentalized software applications as the theoretical Rice Krispies in the treat. In addition, the Rice Krispies consist of a combination of ingredients that be broken down into data, user interfaces and business logic. Next, we have the margarine or butter that is used to help the marshmallows bind with the Rice Krispies; this role in our conceptual view is taken by a data source typically as a relational database management system. Finally we have the melted marshmallows which act as the ERP software that connects all of the individual departmental software applications in to one unified system that allows all user one unified system to interact with all of the individual dispersed systems. An example of this would be if a customer places an order with a telephone operator and once the orders is processed an employee in the shipping department can see the order ready for fulfillment on his order screen. The ERP acts a go between for various independent departmental systems so that they can integrate with one another.

• Oracle ERP Cloud Solution Defines Revenue Recognition Software Market

  Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Revenue is a fundamental yardstick of a company's performance, and one of the most important metrics for investors in the capital markets. So it’s no surprise that the accounting standard boards have devoted significant resources to this topic, with a key goal of ensuring that companies use a consistent method of recognizing revenue. Due to the myriad of revenue-generating transactions, and the divergent ways organizations recognize revenue today, the IFRS and FASB have been working for 12 years on a common set of accounting standards that apply to all industries in virtually all countries. Through their joint efforts on May 28, 2014 the FASB and IFRS released the IFRS 15 / ASU 2014-9 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) converged accounting standard. This standard applies to revenue in all public companies, but heavily impacts organizations in any industry that might have complex sales contracts with multiple distinct deliverables (obligations). For example, an auto dealer who bundles free service with the sale of a car can only recognize the service revenue once the owner of the car brings it in for work. Similarly, high-tech companies that bundle software licenses, consulting, and support services on a sales contract will recognize bundled service revenue once the services are delivered. Now all companies need to review their revenue for hidden bundling and implicit obligations. Numerous time-consuming and judgmental activities must be performed to properly recognize revenue for complex sales contracts. To illustrate, after the contract is identified, organizations must identify and examine the distinct deliverables, determine the estimated selling price (ESP) for each deliverable, then allocate the total contract price to each deliverable based on the ESPs. In terms of accounting, organizations must determine whether the goods or services have been delivered or performed to the customer’s satisfaction, then either book revenue in the current period or record a liability for the obligation if revenue will be recognized in a future accounting period. Oracle Revenue Management Cloud was architected and developed so organizations can simplify and streamline revenue recognition. Among other capabilities, the solution uses business rules to efficiently identify and examine contracts, intelligently calculate and allocate deliverable prices based on prescribed inputs, and accurately recognize revenue for each deliverable based on customer satisfaction. • How to install and use Tally ERP 9 in Wine

  I am trying to run Tally ERP 9 (http://www.tallysolutions.com/), post-installation in wine 1.7. I am getting an "out of memory" error, the moment it starts(at the tally splash screen). I then have no option other than to close it. OS: Xubuntu 12.04.3 Wine: 1.6\1.7.9 How have I installed: Inserted the Tally Installation CD, clicked on the tally installer executable. Installed by following the setup. Configured for multi-user, client configuration. Server is at a specified LAN address running on Windows. Then once installation is done. Clicked on the executable/ran from command line for tally.exe Please guide.
