• Macbook Pro 8,1 - wireless interface not showing up

  I've installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my Macbook Pro 8,1. Everything went fine and everything installs fine except for the wireless interface. I've installed the b43 module according to these instructions: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro8-1/Natty#Wireless I've tried compiling the module, ndiswrapper and also the last solution mentioned using this PPA: ppa:zwaldowski/ppa. With the three solutions, the module loads finely. It works smoothly. lspci shows the wireless card without problem. But there is no wireless interface. iwconfig or ifconfig both show eth0 and lo as interfaces, but no eth1 or wlan0 interface is showing up. I have no idea why, and I'm completely stuck there.

• libssh2 and simultaneous connections

  I'm writing a node.js C++ module using the C library libssh2. The module is supposed to be a bridge to connect to SSH over HTTPS. Right now, I'm still in the design/learning phase of v8 API and C++, and I have a design question: libssh2 is a C library, all its methods are global. From what I see in the examples, libssh2 can only handle one connection at a time. If I want to allow simultaneous connections to different SSH servers, do I have to fork a process to completely separate the libssh2 "instances", or is forking a thread enough? I don't know enough of the separation limit used there. Any idea on how to handle this is appreciated.

• Direction of the bullet - how to have something else than left, right, top, bottom

  I'm making a simple shooter game using canvas and javascript. The current code can be seen here. To know which way I want the bullet to be shot, I simply have a direction property that can have 4 values (left, right, bottom, top), and I can then calculate the next position of the bullet easily. However, I'd like to move the bullet to the mouse position, but I don't really see how to do this. How do I calculate the next position? I'm guessing there is some formula to calculate the line between two positions (the player's and the mouse's), but I don't have much idea yet. So there is no obstacle, but I don't see how to calculate this, and be able have the next position of the bullet at each frame.

• Should I organize my folders by business domain or by technical domain?

  For example, if I'm using some MVC-like architecture, which folder structure should I use: domain1/ controller model view domain2/ controller model view Or: controllers/ domain1 domain2 models/ domain1 domain2 views/ domain1 domain2 I deliberately left out file extensions to keep this question language-agnostic. Personally, I'd prefer to separate by business domain (gut feeling), but I see that most/many frameworks separate by technical domain. Why whould I choose one over the other?

• Migration of egroupware from one Ubuntu server to another

  I am new to server administration and have been attempting to migrate from one Ubuntu server to another for 4 days now. I am having a problem with migration of egroupware settings. Specifically, I need to find where knowledgebase saves the files on the local machine. I have the database set correctly and its using the previous settings. However, articles in knowledgebase are not showing images associated with them. I have tried everything to find the file on the old server that stores data files uploaded to the knowlegebase but I cannot. If there is another way to import these files, or if someone knows where they are saved, I would really appreciate the help. -Chris

• Change/Deactivate the shell for an amount of users on SUSE Enterprise Server

  I have a SUSE Server to which ~300 users are connecting. About 100 of them have to be deactivated. I think it would be nice to change their shell to /bin/false either with chsh or with usermod. Do I have to type every command per line, or can I fill out a list of users which can be read from the script? I should mention that all of the 100 users have the same ending in their username. Can I work with wildcards here? e.g. usermod -s /bin/fish *ftpuser chsh -s /sbin/nologin *ftpuser

  Hi I have an interface something like this: interface IGenericSetupViewModel<T> I then have a default implemtation of this, something like this class GenericSetupViewModel<T> : IGenericSetupViewModel<T> For some specific classes i have a specific implementation like this: class ContractSetupViewModel : GenericSetupViewModel<Contract> Now i want to make StructureMap return the correct instance, when asking for a ObjectFactory.GetInstance<GenericSetupViewModel<Contract>(); I would like to get ContractSetupViewModel returned, when asking for anything else, i would like to get an instance of GenericSetupViewModel<T> I tried doing this: StructureMap.ObjectFactory.Configure(x => { x.Scan(y => { y.TheCallingAssembly(); y.AddAllTypesOf(typeof(IGenericSetupViewModel<>)); y.ConnectImplementationsToTypesClosing(typeof(IGenericSetupViewModel<>)); }); }); However this results in me always getting a GenericSetupViewModel and never the ContractSetupViewModel. I dont want to have to specify all specific viewmodels so is there anyway i can get this scan to work ?

• Maven 2 checkstyle plugin version 2.5 - Problem with configLocation

  Hi there, I am using checkstyle plugin in maven 2. I now want to switch my config file, from the default one to a) an online file, or b) a local file. I tried the following two things, which both didnt work. Any suggestions? • Python Mindstorms RCX

  I've got 30 unopened Lego Mindstorms kits that I'd love to use in my intro programming class to do some simple robotics stuff at the end of the year. We're using Python in the class, so I'd prefer there to be a way for the kids to write the programs in Python. Unfortunately, these are old kits with RCX bricks - not the newer NXT ones, so most of the projects like NXT_Python can't help me. Is there any way to make that happen?

  Apache Wicket ( http://wicket.apache.org/ ) and Apache Tapestry ( http://wicket.apache.org/ ) are both component oriented web frameworks - contrary to action based frameworks like Stripes - by the Apache Foundation. Both allow you to build your application from components in Java. They both look very similar to me. What are the differences between those two frameworks? Has someone experience in both? Specifically: How is their performance, how much can state handling be customized, can they be used stateless? What is the difference in their component model? What would you choose for which applications? How do they integrate with Guice, Spring, JSR 299? Edit: I have read the documentation for both and I have used both. The questions cannot be answered sufficently from reading the documentation, but from the experience from using these for some time, e.g. how to use Wicket in a stateless mode for high performance sites. • if/else statement in a function: using onclick as a switch

  I have looked for solutions to this on google for what seems like an eternity, but I can't seem to formulate my search correctly, or nobody has posted the code I'm looking for earlier. I am currently trying to make a function that will modify one or several margins of a div element. I want to use an if/else statement within the function, so that the onclick event will switch between the two conditions. This is what I have been working on so far; function facebookToggle() { if($('#facebooktab').style.margin-left == "-250px";) { document.getElementById("facebooktab").style.marginLeft="0px"; } else { document.getElementById("facebooktab").style.marginLeft="-250px"; } } I have tried twisting it around a little, like switching between "marginLeft" and "margin-left", to see if I was just using the wrong terms.. I'm starting to wonder if it might not be possible to combine jQuery and regular javascript? I don't know.. It's all just guesses on my part at this point. Anyway, I have a div, which is now positioned (fixed) so almost all of it is hidden outside the borders of the browser. I want the margin to change onclick so that it will be fully shown on the page. And when it is shown, I want to be able to hide it again by clicking it. I might be approaching this in the wrong way, but I really hope someone can help me out, or even tell me another way to get the same results. Thank you for any help you can give me. • Python Tkinter comparing PhotoImage objects

  In a simple LightsOut game, when I click on a light I need to toggle the image on a button. I'm doing this with Tkinter, so I thought I'd just check and see what image is currently on the button (either 'on.gif' or 'off.gif') and set it to the other one, like this: def click(self,x,y): if self.buttons[x][y].image == self.on: self.buttons[x][y].config(image=self.off) self.buttons[x][y].image == self.off else: self.buttons[x][y].config(image=self.on) self.buttons[x][y].image == self.on This ends up always being True - I can turn a lgiht off, but never turn it back on. Did some research, realized that I should probably be using cmp: def click(self,x,y): if cmp(self.buttons[x][y].image,self.on) == 0: self.buttons[x][y].config(image=self.off) self.buttons[x][y].image == self.off else: self.buttons[x][y].config(image=self.on) self.buttons[x][y].image == self.on But that gave me the exact same result. Both self.on and self.off are PhotoImage objects. Aside from keeping a separate set of lists which tracks what type of light is in each position and redrawing them every click, is there a way to directly compare two PhotoImage objects like this?

• How to prevent maven to resolve dependencies in local repository

  Is there a way to tell maven (when doing mvn package, mvn site or ...) not to resolve the dependencies from the local repository? Background of this question: Sometimes I get into problems, when previously cached dependencies (e.g. SomeProject-0.7-ALPHA) are no longer available in the remote repository. In my local build everything still works fine as the dependency has been cached before. As soon as I share my pom with others, they may get into trouble, as they dont have a cached version of that dependency and the dependency can no longer be resolved from the remote repository. • Telerik chart not loading correctly in new window (ajax issue?)

  I have a page which contains user controls with Telerik Charts (grids also, but they work fine). From this page, the user can click on a button to be redirected to a "Printer-Friendly Version" type page, which opens a new window via javascript and goes through a slightly different view (for formatting and stuff), but the telerik code is all the same. The problem is, my Chart displays just fine in the original window, but the new window displays basically an empty chart with no data. This bug is only present in IE, and only applies to Charts. Grids work fine, for whatever reason. I'm thinking this is due to differences in script caching between browsers -- correct me if I'm wrong, I'm semi-new to client-directed web development. Anyway I read somewhere that Telerik has issues with loading data and/or js files when loaded via ajax, so maybe that's the problem? If so, how could I get around this? And if not, any ideas on what could be causing this issue? It's causing me a great deal of frustration, since a print preview page seems like it should be the easiest of jobs. Edit: The charts are being rendered as html (if somebody can explain how to render them as images, that would be awesome). And dev tools shows basically the same thing between chrome and IE. Whenever my web service goes back up ill WinMerge them and look for any peculiarities/differences between them. In the mean time, though, the "render as an image" concept sounds promising. That way I could just save the image from the first page, and insert it right into the print preview page, right?. And since it's a print-preview page, it's not going to need to be interactive or anything, so that'd work out nicely. Another (important) Edit: These are probably the culprit... I know that Ember.debug() calls and alike are being filtered out for production builds, but I couldn't find out where/how that is implemented and if that same mechanism could be used to make my code only fire in production code.

But apparently, there exists a couple of websites on the Internet that are able to list all the domains registered in a namerserver. • Second partition with Windows 7 unmountable

  I'm using GRUB2 to dualboot Ubuntu and Windows 7. I installed Windows 7 some days ago and rewrote GRUB2 to cope with the dualboot. Everything went fine till yesterday - I could boot into both OS. Since this morning my laptop restarts every time I choose Windows 7 from the menu. Ubuntu is still working. As I tried to mount the partition with Windows 7 on Ubuntu it gave me return code 2, so this isn't working as well. I tried to reinstall GRUB2 to the MBR but it didn't help. I also tried to repair Windows 7 boot with it's install DVD, while trying so it showed me the following error: "Status: 0xc000000f Info: Boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible." • Django + gunicorn + virtualenv + Supervisord issue

  Dear all, I have a strange issue with my virtualenv + gunicorn setup, only when gunicorn is launched via supervisord. I do realize that it may very well be an issue with my supervisord and I would appreciate any feedback on a better place to ask for help... In a nutshell : when I run gunicorn from my user shell, inside my virtualenv, everything is working flawlessly. I'm able to access all the views of my Django project. When gunicorn is launched by supervisord at the system startup, everything is OK. But, if I have to kill the gunicorn_django processes, or if I perform a supervisord restart, once that gunicorn_django has relaunched, every request is answered with a weird Traceback : (...) • emacs error: "Symbol's value as variable is void: hostname"

  After I installed emacs this error occurs every time on startup. It prevents me from installing plugins, e.g. auctex via aptitude. I already tried to install a plugin by hand (rails for ruby), but doesn't work. The error doesn't contain the message "hostname", but the hostname of my PC is displayed ("bloodredangel-ubuntu"). I changed my hostname to "bloodredangel", but the error message stays the same. While I changed my hostname I saw that in /etc/hostname were two entries: 127.0.0.1 bloodredangel-ubuntu I already asked this question in an ubuntu forum but they couldn't help. They recognised an misconfigured /etc/hosts file, which I corrected, but from time to time these incorrect configurations get attached by something. I didn't add them by hand, maybe it has something to do with the issue. The misconfigurations looked like this: 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 bloodredangel-ubuntu localhost.localdomain localhost 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1:8080 bloodredangel-ubuntu localhost.localdomain localhost I didn't found a solution on the internet, so I hope I will find help here finally.

• Mouse-usable alt-tab for windows 7

  I'm using Windows 7 with ye good olde Windows 2000 style (I favor usability and space over fancy-pants aero and effects) and am looking for a way I can make the ALT-TAB-Control interactable with my mouse. I generally have many many windows open, and pressing tab or shift-tab over and over again begings to really frustrate me, if i want to reach a certain program. Of course, I could just select the program on my taskbar, but that takes even longer. I really like the way mac os x has its alt-tab menu - more or less exactly the same, but I can select the program with my mouse. Is there something like that for my environment?
