Is there any way to see the return value of the function at this point, without letting the code return to the caller function? Foo.Bar() is a function call which generates a unique path (for example). So it's NOT constant. In VB.NET it's possible by entering the function's name in the Watch, which will then threat it as a variable. But in C# this is not possible, any other tips? PS: rewriting is not an option.

• E 2.0 Value Metaphors

  I guess I have been doing this too long. I can easily see the value of Enterprise 2.0 technology for an organization, but find it a challenge at times to convey that same value to others. I also know that I'm not the only one that has that issue. Others, that have that same passion, also suffer from being, perhaps, too close to the market. I was having this same discussion with a few colleagues when one of them suggested that metaphors might be a good vehicle to communicate the value to those that are not as familiar.  One such metaphor was discussed.Apparently,back in the early 50's, there was a great Air Force aviator and military strategist by the name of John Boyd.  Without going into a ton of detail (you can search him on the internet), what made Colonel Boyd great was that he never lost a dog fight.  As a matter of fact, they called him 'Forty-Second Boyd' since he claimed to be able to beat anyone in any type of aircraft in less than forty seconds, even if his aircraft was inferior to his opponents.His approach as was unique.  He observed over time that there was a pattern on how aviators  engaged in a dogfight.  He called this method OODA.   It describes how a person or, in our case, an organization, would react to an event.  OODA is an acrostic for Observation, Orientation, Decision and Action.  Again, there is a lot more on the internet about this.A pilot would go through this loop several times during a dogfight and Boyd would try to predict this loop and interrupt it by changing the landscape of the actual dogfight.  This would give Boyd an advantage and be able to predict what his opponent would do and then counterattack.Boyd went on to say that many companies have a similar reaction loop and that by understanding that loop, organizations would be able to adjust better to market conditions, predict what the competition is doing and reposition themselves to gain competitive advantages. So, our metaphor would be that Enterprise 2.0 provides companies greater visibility of their business by connecting to employees, customers and partners in a collaborative fashion.  This, in turn, helps them navigate through the tough times and provide lines of sight to more innovative ideas.  Innovation is that last tool for companies to achieve competitive advantage (maybe a discusion for another post).Perhaps this is more wordy than some other metaphor, but it does allow for an interesting  dialogue to start and maybe even a framwork to fullfill the promise of E 2.0. So, I'm sure there are many more metaphors for the value that E 2.0 brings to organzaitons. Do you have one to share? Please comment below and thanks for stopping by.

  Here's my issue: In my controller, I want to grab user input from a form. I then parse the input, and compare it to database values to ensure I'm grabbing the correct input. I simply want to match the user's answers to the question, grab the user ID, the question ID, and then determine if the answer applies to a multiple choice or checkbox question, or something else. I take those values and insert them into the answer table. Ignore the waiver stuff.   I want to create a display group generated from foreach() clause output. I can't seem to get the syntax correct. Here's the business logic: for each category row find the associated fees output the category description as a label and the fees as radio buttons then create a display group with the fees as the group elements and the category description as the legend.   Hi, I am building a questionnaire creator. A questionnaire consists of sections, sections consist of pages and pages consist of questions. Questionnaire is the aggregate root. Sections, pages and questions can have what are called shortcodes which should be unique within a questionnaire (but not unique within the database hence they are not strictly an identity). I intended to make the shortcode a value object and wanted to include the business rule that it should be unique within the questionnaire but I am unsure how to ensure that. My understanding is that the value object should not access the repository or service layer so how does it find out if it is unique? Thanks for any help. Darren

Example: List Names = john, mary, john, bob, simon Names.Where(s = s != "mary").Foreach(MyObject.setInfo(s.index, "blah") But cannot use the "index" property with lists, inversely if the names were in an Array I cannot use Foreach... Any suggestions?

".$user_in_group."</h2>"; // if 1, means yes } Need to print run the appropriate function based on what returns true. There are user's that are members of both FACULTY and STAFF groups, so I want to check for those users and display the appropriate content for them. So if the user is both faculty and staff, then display this, if they are only of staff, display that, same for faculty, might not make sense, but I will write out some code "in theory" that will help you understand what I am trying to do switch(Get group membership of user) { case "FACULTY": print "Faculty group member"; break; case "STAFF": print "Staff group member"; break; case "FACULTY and STAFF": print "Member of both faculty and staff"; break; } I am unsure on how it will check if they are members of both groups and run that thru the case statement to display the appropriate message. The foreach look currently runs thru every group the user belongs to, prints out the ones from the $list_of_groups and the number 1 to the right of it, signifying they belong to it. The problem I have is trying to use that information to run thru the case statement, I am unsure of how to go about that. This is what it prints out for the user currently passed thru the foreach loop: Group: FACULTY user in group? 1 Group: STAFF user in group? 1 Any help is appreciated.

  Hello, I have a pretty simple problem. Basically I have an array called $list that is a list of titles. If I do a print_r($list) I get these results: Array ( [0] => Another New Title [1] => Awesome Movies and stuff [2] => Jascha's Title ) Now, I'm running a foreach loop to retrieve their values and format them in an <ul> like so... function get_film_list(){ global $categories; $list = $categories->get_film_list(); if(count($list)==0){ echo 'No films are in this category'; }else{ echo '<ul>'; foreach($list as $title){ echo '<li>' . $title . '<li>'; } echo '</ul>'; } } The problem I'm having is my loop is returning two values per value (is it the key value?) The result of the preceding function looks like this: Another New Title   Awesome Movies and stuff   Jascha's Title   I even tried: foreach($list as $key => $title){ echo '<li>' . $title . '<li>'; } With the same results: Another New Title   Awesome Movies and stuff   Jascha's Title   What am I missing here? Thanks in advance.

• cascading dropdown value doesn't seem to get posted to my php page?
