  • How to install grub into an .img file?

    I did the following: created an empty .img file with dd associated it to /dev/loop0 with losetup created a partition in it with fdisk formatted such partition with mke2fs copied a custom GNU/Linux system into that partition Now I'd like to make the .img file bootable by installing grub into its MBR and /boot directory. My goal is to load the .img file with qemu. It would be better if grub2 is used instead of grub legacy. Thanks.

  • OS X Snow Leopard, change file permissions on copy

    I work with OS X, Snow Leopard and need to allow users to make copies of files (templates) located in a read-only repository for subsequent editing. The repository is located on a separate physical drive mounted to the OS X boot volume. As this is a shared computer in a school environment, all users access the machine via a single login ("user_local"). Whether using POSIX permissions or ACLs, the use case requires the file permissions to change from "read" to "read write" as they get copied to the "user_local" home directory. Googling around has not yielded anything that would indicate that this is possible via the Snow Leopard permission system. Question 1: Is this in fact possible via the permission system? If so, how? Question 2: If not possible, how would one go about solving this problem? I imagine this to be a fairly common use case so there must be a workable solution for it out there. Thanks.

And here is my implementation: -module(db) . -include_lib("eunit/include/eunit.hrl"). -export([new/0,write/3]). new() -> []. write(Key, Value, Database) -> Record = {Key, Value}, [Record|append(Database)]. append([H|T]) -> [H|append(T)]; append([]) -> [].   • android: AbsListView.OnScrollListener SCROLL_STATE_IDLE is not called after SCROLL_STATE_TOUCH_SCROL

    I have a problem with android version 2.1. It looks like a bug. I attached an OnScrollListener to my listView. I'm using the method onScrollStateChanged(AbsListView view, int scrollState) for monitoring the scroll's state of my listview. The scrollstate could assume 3 value (taken from the documentation): SCROLL_STATE_FLING: The user had previously been scrolling using touch and had performed a fling. The animation is now coasting to a stop SCROLL_STATE_IDLE:The view is not scrolling. Note navigating the list using the trackball counts as being in the idle state since these transitions are not animated. SCROLL_STATE_TOUCH_SCROLL:The user is scrolling using touch, and their finger is still on the screen I assume that the SCROLL_STATE_IDLE will always be passed after one of other two states. It's always true excepted for android version 2.1. SCROLL_STATE_IDLE is not passed after SCROLL_STATE_TOUCH_SCROLL The problem happens also if you stop the fling by a touch instead of let the scroll stop by itself. This strange behaviour leaves my listView in an unconsistate state. Someonelse has the same problem? Suggestion for a "not-so-dirty" work around?

    Hi, I have a problem with parameters replacing by Spring JdbcTemplate. I have this query : <bean id="fixQuery" class="java.lang.String"> <constructor-arg type="java.lang.String" value="select fa.id, fi.? from fix_ambulation fa left join fix_i18n fi on fa.translation_id = fi.id order by name" /> And this method : public List<FixAmbulation> readFixAmbulation(String locale) throws Exception { List<FixAmbulation> ambulations = this.getJdbcTemplate().query( fixQuery, new Object[] {locale.toLowerCase()}, ParameterizedBeanPropertyRowMapper .newInstance(FixAmbulation.class)); return ambulations; } And I'd like to have the ? filled with the string representing the locale the user is using. So if the user is brasilian I'd send him the column pt_br from the table fix_i18n, otherwise if he's american I'd send him the column en_us. What I get from this method is a PostgreSQL exception org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: syntax error at or near "$1" If I replace fi.? with just ? (the column name of the locale is unique, so if I run this query in the database it works just fine) what I get is that every object returned from method has the string locale into the field name. I.e. in name field I have "en_us". The only way to have it working I found was to change the method into : public List<FixAmbulation> readFixAmbulation(String locale) throws Exception { String query = "select fa.id, fi." + locale.toLowerCase() + " as name " + fixQuery; this.log.info("QUERY : " + query); List<FixAmbulation> ambulations = this.getJdbcTemplate().query( query, ParameterizedBeanPropertyRowMapper .newInstance(FixAmbulation.class)); return ambulations; } and setting fixQuery to : <bean id="fixQuery" class="java.lang.String"> <constructor-arg type="java.lang.String" value=" from telemedicina.fix_ambulation fa left join telemedicina.fix_i18n fi on fa.translation_id = fi.id order by name" /> </bean> My DAO extends Spring JdbcDaoSupport and works just fine for all other queries. What am I doing wrong?

The exception is: javax.ejb.EJBException : Unexpected Error java.lang.AbstractMethodError: org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.jdk5.WrappedConnectionJDK5.createArrayOf(Ljava/lang/String;[Ljava/lang/Object;)Ljava/sql/Array; postgresql-8.4-701.jdbc4.jar is in jboss/server/all/lib dir. Application is spring based with ejb3. When working locally with the same setup everything is fine. This only happens on a preproduction environment. Only difference is locally I have jboss run in default mode, in the other case there are 2 jbosses in all configuration. I can't track down the cause of this error. Could someone help me please?

Let's take for example the ADD instruction. On page 79 it is written that you can an r8 (8-bit register) to an r/m8 (8-bit register or memory location). A few rows below, it is also written that you can add an r/m8 to an r8. The question is: if I add two 8-bit registers, which instruction I am using? Thanks.

    I'd like to write down a BNF-like formal grammar for describing the command line usage of some GNU/Linux tools. For example I can describe the usage of the cat command as: (cat-command) : 'cat' (arguments-list) (arguments-list) : (argument) (arguments-list) : (arguments-list) (argument) (argument) : (file) The problem is I can't write down a precise grammar for some commands such as md5sum. My first attempt at that would be the following: (md5sum-command) : 'md5sum' (arguments-list) (arguments-list) : (argument) (arguments-list) : (arguments-list) (argument) (argument) : (file) (argument) : '--check' But as you can see this grammar allows you to specify the --check argument as many times as you wish, which is incorrect as you should use it at most one time. How can I fix that? Also, what kind of formal grammars I should study for better treating this kind of problems? Thanks.

    Hi, I'm stuck with jboss and blazeds clusterization. What I have now is : 2 Jboss Instances, running in all mode One load balancer with apache and mod_jk, as suggested by Jboss docs A spring/flex integration app A flex application that I do not want to throw errors when one of my JBoss instances falls I find Adobe documentation really lacking, and being new at clustering, jgroups and balancing I cannot find how to deploy my app in clustered environment. From what I understood if configured correctly blazeds should tell flex client about failover servers upon connection. Then if flex client can't connect to the main server it goes to another. But the hard part for me is getting there. Can someone point me to the right direction? Thanks in advance

    Hi, I have a peer to peer Merge Replication from two Sqlserver 2005. The first Sqlserver is both the publisher and distribuitor. All works fine but if the VPN goes down for a couple of hours the replication goes down too and I need to manually restart the sqlserver agent. In the Sqlserver Agent properties I have set the two option about the agent failover but nothing. How I can set an automatic restart of sqlserver agent when the VPN goes down? Thanks

By example, for what I understand, adorners can add some controls to a UI element, but I think that the same behavior can be achieved through a custom control that contains the additional element.     my today question is: how do I manage a tablet (Gigabyte 1080) with an additional battery in Ubuntu ? The control bar shows two separate batteries but starts to suck all the energy from the secundary battery, not leaving any power in it and ruining it (if I don't remove it earlier), and then starts with the primary battery.     I've Ubuntu 12.10.1 LTS x62 fresh of installation... My dash is empty, search doesn't work and applications list is empty. If I run the Ubuntu Software Center it freeze in a blank screen.     I use Ubuntu One to synch my home/Documents folder among more computers. On a portable tablet I have set the Documents folder in a separate Fat32 partition named sda6, and I made it default documents folder with Ubuntu Tweaks. How do I synchronize it with my /Documents cloud ? I tried to link /sda/Documents in my home folder but it didn't succeed: UbuntuOne still tries to set an own Documents folder and doesn't let me sync the linked folder with the cloud.     I'm evaluating JasperReport and iReport, a requirement is the possibility to produce a multiple page report in which every page contains a different report. Example: Page 1 contains an actual invoice for a customer Page 2 contains the invoices list for the customer Page 3 contains a graph of amount of invoices by year Page 4 contains only fixed text (say operator instructions ...)
